Bob’s Party and More, 4-9-26

It was a great party! Soooo many people including his 3 boys from Arizona who surprised him!!! He wondered why. They didn’t call Sunday morning – they were just down the street at the hotel – ha! Bob was overwhelmed when they walked in.

It was fun introducing ourselves to the people at our table and exchanging how we know Bob and Marline.

Picture this – a roomful of old men, with 99% of them wearing hearing aids which evidently don’t work because everybody was shouting to be heard. It was What was that? Who? all over the room. A party for sure! Haha!!!

Teresa in B.C. sent a picture of the new colt that arrived. Meet Scarlet, 1/2 Arabian and 1/2 Quarter Horse. Just beautiful, isn’t she?

Touch of Spring – what a gorgeous floral!
Seen on Facebook – on my “to do”list now

Molly’s going home tomorrow – we’ve both learned a lot since she‘s been here. My week is filled with errands and a couple appointments – nothing big. And I’m going to spend time repotting some of my plants that just don’t look as healthy as they should.

Thinking about ELIO and Jeanine’s daughter and husband.

Bob certainly looks good for 90 years of living! The new colt is precious. The floral touch of spring is a beautiful use of a large print fabric. Prayers for baby Elio. Lots of new medical discoveries for helping hearing impairment,

  2. Teresa in Indiana

Beautiful quilts, new baby foal and partying! What a good day! Prayers continue for those in need.

What a nice event for Bob. It’s not often we are celebrated in life, so yea, lots of guests and fun and food. It’s a win for everyone.
Thanks for the shout out for baby Elio. I have not bothered his parents with lots of calls and questions. I asked a few, does he turn to look at a speaker if you hold him on one side vs the other, hoping there was a glimmer of hope that one ear might be fully equipped. I was reminded that he’s tiny and doesn’t have fully coordinated movements of his head and eyes yet. Ha ha, in other words, we’ve had a lot of questions and we’re tired out. Poor big kids and poor baby.
I will share any updates I receive. Doing a lot of sewing, it eases my mind, takes me out of my head.

Beautiful colt and mama, and lots of lovely quilts today.

Carol, thanks for updating us on little Elio. I am sure it’s hard not to know what’s going on with your first grandchild. Time will tell. Sewing and sharing how you are coping helps. Did you see my reply to your comment on the Riverside post ?

Carol – I’ve been thinking of ELIO and so hoping there is good news ahead!!

    3. Connie R.

Carol- Prayers will continue for your grandson as well as your family. God bless you all as we wait for good news.

Jeanine’s daughter and son-in-law are in my thoughts, as is baby Elio.

Bob’s party looks like it was really fun! But his sons’ being there was the best part.

I love the scrappy quilt you found on Facebook. I wonder whether it’s anywhere else? I write a monthly column with internet finds for my quilt guild newsletter, and it is a good candidate.

Thank you for thinking of Elio. I haven’t asked the questions that are in my head, Elio was a difficult baby to come by, and I think there are overwhelmed feelings all the way around. So we’re waiting (impatiently) to hear whatever news there is to share. I will share whatever I hear, and thank everyone for their continued thoughts, prayers and well wishes.

Dot – Country Threads did a very similar quilt – I’ll look for it and post.

So happy Bob had a great birthday! It’s so nice his sons surprised him!
    The quilts are all beautiful!
Guess what! The wind is blowing again! Ugh! Still no rain!
Jay still coughs quite a bit. It’s not a bad at night tho, thankfully! This bug is nasty!
The two sons are farming the ground this year. Haven’t seen anyone today. The ground temp is 48. I have not been out but the windchill is playing a part again. It’s not easy to fill the planter in a 50 mph wind!
I sure hope they have good news either way ELIO.
The little colt will be bouncing around today I’m sure.
    Have a good day!

Thanks for thinking of our little grandbaby. I’ll be sure to share whatever I learn, I’m not putting calls in for info because I know they feel overwhelmed and will let me know whatever they learn.

  6. Charlotte in No. California

So glad Bob’s birthday was such a nice celebration and that his sons got to surprise him. 90 is a big deal!!!
Love all the pictures today especially the beautiful new colt!

  7. Judy AZ also

Good happy pictures! Thanks! Those hearing aids don’t help much in groups, I know from experience.
Making potato salad – several friends coming tomorrow for rug-hooking and snacking!
Eight or ? javalina trotting through. I’m glad that they’re just wandering through. they can really make a rooting mess!

I have added Elio to my prayer list, and thanks, Mary for thinking about our daughter and son-in-law. He has his last monthly cancer treatment today. Our daughter is still in a lot of pain, but we are praying it will get better every day. The medication does help some. Thanks to all who are praying for them.

A sunny day today, but a lot cooler and then I heard on the radio this morning it is suppose to get to 81* tomorrow! We may try planting a little garden this afternoon. A friend is coming to till the garden for us as my husband is not able to do that anymore. Our garden will be a lot smaller this year.

I’m headed to our Ladies Bible study at church later this morning. Have a great day.

    1. Carol at Pin Oak Quilting

So many to think of, and pray for, I’m so happy to have shared his brief little story with so many people who are loving from a distance. I’ve been keeping up with your family and I must say, when they say the Lord only gives you what you can handle, I feel perhaps He has over delivered to your family. You are very brave, as is the younger generation you care for.

I am pleased the party for Bob was so successful. He reminded me of my father-in-law–his apparent demeanor and looks.

Have another appt today to see if I can get a walk in shower put in without breaking the bank as we used to say. Or have to give up an arm or leg! Final prep for retreat that starts tomorrow in Elk Horn, IA

75 today predicted and 80s the next few days. I hope we are done with the cold.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Fran – a walk in shower is pretty important so I hope you can pull it off –

      1. Brend Archambault

You still have to be careful in the shower. Hold on to the rails as you move (or stand still ) about. A friend recently fell. There she was, naked, wet, and the paramedics were call. My first nightmare!

  10. Judy B - Michigan

How wonderful for Bob that his 3 boys were there. Looks like quite the party!
    The new colt is beautiful!
    Thanks for the pictures!

What a great post to read with so much happiness. The colt, Bob’s well deserved celebration, and pretty quilts. Seeing the large floral print makes me want to leave our camp and go hunting through my fabrics to cut one out. I’m glad I bought the pattern from you.
Our oldest dog is alot like Molly and prefers laying around watching the world go by. She never was a big Walker in her early years and we discovered she has very sensitive skin so the rubbing under her legs against her body was causing red irritated spots. Much like the folds can do with humans and cause painful rashes and very uncomfortable so now we just let her walk out to do her business and go back where she’s content. Our little doggie will do enough of a long walk to make up for her.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kathy – if Molly lived with me full time I’d put her on a Farmer Dog plan for weight loss so she wouldn’t be hungry which is what the problem is with Bob. Bob can’t walk her because of her size and strength and they don’t have a fenced yard in town. So her only real interaction with Bob is feeding and special toppings on her food – I would not force her to eat! They also go for ice cream almost every night. But she loves Bob so much and I can’t wait to see her reaction when he pulls up this morning to get her. I try to help by inviting her to the farm as often as I can.

      1. Cynthia in Minnesota

Mary, Just a thought here. So many kids do volunteer work, especially groups like the National Honor Society, but maybe there is someone in a youth group that could volunteer to take Mollie for short walks so she gets her exercise and doesn’t tax Bob! I volunteered this spring for our community’s library book sale and there groups of the types that I mentioned who were the best helpers! Just a thought.

        1. Carol at Pin Oak Quilting

Great idea! It would be wonderful if it could happen. Kids in HS have community service credits they need to accrue. That would be a great service to Bob.

          1. Kathy in NY

Mary – this is an excellent idea as many kids in our local HS are at a loss on what to do for their extra hours needed in community service. I had one girl who helped in our church clothing closet but she would have been much happier walking a dog to help out a 90 year old man.
Our dog has been on Natural Balance Fat Dog food for years and our grown kids think it’s a horrible name for food.

        2. Mary Etherington Post author

Cynthia – it’s a good thought – would need to be somebody strong. I think I’m strong but I’m not sure I could hold on to here if she saw another dog and bolted.

          1. Cynthia in Minnesota

Mary, Yes, many responsibilities and experience in handling someone else’s favorite pet for sure. Just a thought I had.

  12. Sunflower 🌻 from Michigan

Looks like the party was a great success! Happy birthday, Bob!
The little colt is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
The quilts are beautiful. I like the floral fabric in the Touch of Spring quilt also.
We had a frost overnight in Southeast Michigan. My tulips are all droopy, but the sun is out so I think they’ll bounce back.
    Have a great week, everyone!🌻

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sunflower – pretty cold here, too, but I opened up the barn anyway – everybody wanted out! I just don’t want the chicks to get chilled.

  13. Gloria from CC

What a nice surprise for Bob. Having his sons home for his birthday was “icing on the cake.” All the quilts are beautiful!
I raised, trained and showed Arabians for over 30 years so I enjoyed seeing the picture of the half Arabian filly. What a sweet looking foal.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Gloria – oh, I forgot about that, Gloria – her face markings are just about perfect and one white lower leg. She’s a sweetie – I havent seen a new foal in years!

  14. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

What a great celebration for Bob! So nice his sons surprised him like that. I enjoyed the quilt show as well. Thanks for posting the picture of our sweet Scarlet. She’s doing very well today – she is taller than our mini pony we have, that’s kind of funny.

    1. Barbara in Columbia, SC

Teresa, you must feel so Blessed with the addition of Scarlet into your family. She looks absolutely beautiful !

      1. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

Thank you yes we do feel blessed as momma horse was found to have an infection in her placenta in February. With sulfa drugs daily and female hormones to help she was able to carry the filly full term. If my son had done nothing we would have lost the filly for sure and possibly Solara, momma, as well. We were all quite nervous to say the least. So yes we are very blessed and thankful to our vet that confirmed our son’s diagnosis.

  15. Karen in Dr Ohio
