More spring quilts to admire!

Miscellaneous from the farm:

Hank’s mom had back surgery this afternoon for a ruptured disc. No wonder her back hurt!

If you’re going to put a business size envelope inside the same size envelope, please fold it in thirds – this envelope tore when I tried to unfold it. And do not fold it half so that it’s the same height as the envelope you’re sending – I can’t get them open without slitting the folded envelope. Why is this soooo hard??????

Such fun in all the quilts and fur babies. I really like the little sunflower quilt. Little Mortie is so adorable. The Hankster is so sweet. Jasper goes crazy when he sees a squirrel. Animals make us so happy and exasperated at the same time sometimes.
Hank always has a smile! Mortie is always up to something! Haaha!
Quilts are cute.
No orioles here and haven’t seen a yellow finch.
Mary,
Wonderful post with beautiful quilts and fun pet photos. All are just wonderful to see and read about.
I set up my greenhouse to move some seedlings out of my plant room into it. I planted all of my dahlia roots from past years into pots so the dahlias would get a head start. I have never had them grow so much so quickly! At last count, I had 25 dahlias. BUT, I am giving four to my daughter and four to my daughter-in-law! I still have plenty. I made myself a new flower garden area just for the dahlias. It is ready and waiting but still too early to plant outside. My vegetables are coming along nicely. I have tomatoes, about four or six varieties, eggplant, spaghetti squash, acorn squash, okra, yellow squash, zucchini, peas and several varieties of peppers. And pumpkins and gourds. The garden will be plentiful I hope.
Still working on my quilt for this month. Not much quilting mojo this month.
Hope everyone has a great day! 🌻
I’m laughing at Mortie’s tipping that whole stack of books!
I was once reading the “About Us” page at the website of a small business. They had photos of each employee, with a description of their job duties. The last photo was of their office cat, whose job was “Keeping all horizontal surfaces clear of easily-moved objects.”
My orange cat Rusty thinks that’s his job around here, but Mortie has expanded her duties to include heavy objects! I won’t tell Rusty about her accomplishment!
I loved today’s photos of quilts and all the resident and visiting critters. Such a lift to my day.
Great pictures today of quilts and critters. I love the postage stamp quilts, the purple bordered one being a favorite, especially with that polka dot inner border setting it off. I just think they are so interesting to look at up close. Mortie is so cute in that picture on top of the books and I noticed your beautiful quilt in the background on the wall. I think I may have to make that one!
I am now four weeks post op after my hip replacement surgery and doing well but going a little stir crazy. My biggest problem is not sleeping well at night. I can only get about five hours of sleep even if I do not nap during the day. Has anyone else had that problem and do you have a solution? I am still sleeping in my recliner because I am afraid if I transition to the bed my leg will accidentally cross over too far and my hip will dislodge. I had a good bit of swelling during weeks two and three. A friend at church who does reflexology with hospice patients showed me how to press on places on my hand to get rid of the excess fluid in my feet and legs and it worked! The lymphatic systems in your hands and feet/legs are linked somehow. I don’t understand it but it worked for me. She showed me another move for sleep but I haven’t had success with that yet. Maybe I am doing it incorrectly.
I did get some sewing done last night at 1:30 when I couldn’t sleep. I am working on my grandson’s 13th birthday quilt. I have lots of time to get it finished but I want it done ahead of time so I am not rushed.
I am wishing Hank’s mom a good recovery and hope this surgery has fixed all her pain problems. Back pain can be so debilitating.
Hi Sue – I remember sleeping in the recliner after my knee replacement last June. When I tried getting in bed it hurt lifting that leg , swinging it up, but it gradually stopped. Still had to be careful in bed. Now it feels sore off and on at times.
I’m interested in the lymph nodes draining techniques she shared and for sleep if you can share. I hope you heal quickly! 😻❤️
Loving the sunflower and the tulip quilts! They shout SPRING!
Thank you for all the pictures! That rhododendron is wonderful, and the quilts are all terrific. The antics of all the critters must keep you both entertained and busy!
Love the quilt parade! Always such fun to see everyone’s creativity! Those rhododendrons are gorgeous 😍
Such a beautiful quilt show today! Love seeing the dogs too. I have a rhododendron in my backyard. Planted it years ago. That is the state flower of West Virginia, my home state.
Lovely quilts! The small tulip quilt is so cute; I should make it for next spring.
That Mortie is just adorable. She seems so busy; does she ever nap?
Our snowball bushes are in full bloom and were rained on twice yesterday. We do need the rain.
Stunning quilt display…. beautiful dogs…. pretty kitty with her matching hen friend…. what an interesting post today! 🙂
Trusting that Hank’s mom’s surgery will heal quickly and successfully.
Is everybody having spring yet?
Well … we’re having Mountain Spring here in Colorado! That just means that it snows overnight and melts off by mid-day LOL I have some irises that are leafing out, so they are in the garage until Saturday as we are under a winter storm warning through Friday. We do need the precipitation, but I’d prefer that it wasn’t frozen!
Great quilt show. Last night when it was time to do night check at the barn, I went down as well and got to pat Scarlett, touch her nose and scratch under her chin. I was so lucky and she is so soft. She’s very cautious and mom was being held by my son. Today when they were in the field Scarlett came over to the fence and sniffed my hand. Horses remember your smell so I hope this is a start. She let me touch her nose and mouth today. I will try every day. My son gives her hugs every night and she’s used to him and mom is a little more relaxed with him now. I need to take more pictures she growing so fast.
Teresa – oh wow!!!! I sorta remember what a horse’s nose feels like but a foal’s would be even softer and silkier – how sweet that she’s getting acquainted with your smell. Will your son keep her? She isn’t for sale, is she? I have a couple heart breaking horse stories – I can barely stand to remember them. I do hope Scarlett stays.
He is keeping Scarlett. I’m glad. His horse Kalvin that he rides and shows is 17 or 18 so his show days aren’t over yet, but at some point will be and Scarlett will then be ready to show. Funny story about selling horses. He had Kalvin once before, rode him, showed him and at a horse show after winning some classes he was approached by a lady that wanted to buy him so Mike sold him. He told her the horse only liked a western saddle. Not to use an English saddle on him. Well a few years later he was contacted by someone who found out the lady wasn’t happy with him-she was trying to use an English saddle and he bucked her off a lot and now she was afraid of him. She was going to send him to the auction. Mike was horrified and she sold Kalvin back to him for the cost of the shipping. Kalvin is back with Mike and very happy, -he doesn’t buck – Mike only uses a western saddle. Who knows why the horse is like that but he is. Glad Mike got him back. He will live out his life here even once he’s retired.
Teresa, I just noticed you’re from BC. A friend and I took Amtrak from the Seattle area last weekend—we do that 2-3 times a year. The weather couldn’t have been nicer for walks along the gorgeous seawalls. Scarlett is a beauty!
Great quilt show today!
How exciting you took the Amtrak, we’ve always talked about doing that to Seattle and just haven’t done that. Maybe now that we are both retired we can. Glad the weather was good for you, it is beautiful to walk the sea wall in the spring. We are about 1-1/2hrs east from Stanley Park so don’t go there too much. I sure wish they’d put in the high speed train they’ve been talking about for years.
Beautiful quilts and flowers today.
Such pretty quilts! My favorite is the one with the beautiful purple border!
Miss Mortie is so pretty, such an adorable little girl 😻!
I need to get out and plant my okra plants I started in the morning, storms are coming soon. I have already gotten about 10 cherry tomatoes from my plants, yay!
You are so sweet to care for Molly and Hank, their second MaMa 😻❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pamela – thanks – I am definitely a second home and the dogs are very good here once they learn my routine. I don’t mind at all. How are Penny and Lucy?
Penny and Lucy are good. They are enjoying watching the different birds they watch from our glass back door and living room big windows. We have had a few Orioles this week, rose breasted grosbeak, blue buntings, a third raccoon, bunny and Texas rat snake on back patio. I want to stay clear of him! We have only had a handful of hummingbirds so far.
I feel so bad for Hayrack hen. I hate bullying. I’m glad Tim came back 😻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pamela – I stocked up
On grape jelly today – I’ve seen one oriole and one goldfinch so far. I don’t feed hummingbirds because my cats get them – they hover too long. A Texas rat snake???? Haystack is doing fine now – I even saw her in the yard today so maybe separating them for awhile was a reset button.
All we had was a berry mixture jam and apricot. They ate the berry one, hummingbirds nectar, suet feeder and some of the birdseed on the camera feeder. We have bluebirds, house finches and house sparrows all feeding their babies right now. Oh, and a pregnant squirrel. The Texas rat snake is non venomous but looks sooooo much like a rattlesnake! Oy vey! Lucy and Penny send kitty hugs 🥰
Lovely quilts tonight. I enjoyed the quilt show. I’m glad Hank’s mom is getting her back taken care of. I think Hank likes coming to his home away from home.
I am sooo sorry Mary. Guilty and feeling bad. I WILL DI BETTER THE NEXT TIME!
All the quilts are beautiful! Do you think that beautiful bush is a rhododendron? I had one here in the Atlanta area for years and then one year it suddenly died. I never knew why. Maybe too far south for it. Mortie looks like she is posing for a beautiful photo! I am amazed that your pets know not to bother the chickens. As always, a wonderful post and thanks!
Brenda, the pink bush is a rhododendron and the red ones are azaleas. It is a beautiful time of year in Seattle.
I couldn’t resist taking photos of two of my passions….quilts and flowers.🌺
Vicki – we just don’t have flowers like that and your pictures are breathtaking!
Thanks, Mary. Our deep red rhododendrons will start blooming next week. I have some red, white and blue quilts waiting for their pictures with them!😊
Vicki – thank you so much / I can always count on you for great pictures!! You’ve got such nice settings.
Brenda – those chickens are nothing to my pets – probably more annoying than anything. BUT I’m not taking any chances on the chicks – they’re little, they cheep and they dart around – very fascinating for dogs and cats.
Brenda, yes that is a rhododendron. It is beautiful. We have 3 or 4 at our new place, so far they are blooming at different times. The fist was a pretty pink, right next to it is in full bloom now, a creamy colour. The other two I’m waiting. If I remember tomorrow I will take a picture and send it to Mary.
