Nancy, thank you for sharing the Road to California pictures. The quilts are stunning. Barbara, sorry for your loss of your Louie. It’s always difficult as our pets are part of our family.
I’m very behind on reading the blog, trying to catch up today.
The rains are coming back late tonight. We had such a beautiful 1-1/2 weeks a little chilly, the horses water in their paddocks was frozen every day and for a few days the barn was 28F inside in the mornings. Luckily during the day it warmed up some. We were pleased none of the pipes for the auto-waterers didn’t freeze.
Stay safe and keep warm with all that cold weather and snow.
Alice in SW Ohio
Beautiful quilts! I can’t help but wonder how long it took to make some of these! How exciting to be able to go to the Road to California show! Sandy your quilt & pillow are just lovely. Condolences to Louie’s momma. I know he had a special place in your heart. It’s never easy to lose a fur baby. This was one whopper of a storm! It appears we got between 12-14″ of snow. Our community has a grounds crew that removes our snow & they were out early this morning with equipment clearing driveways. I’m sure later they will shovel sidewalks. I shoveled yesterday so Boots had a place to do his business, but of course he wanted to wade into deeper snow! He does love the snow, something different for him. Then came in & ran zoomies. Most businesses & schools are closed today around here in SW Ohio. Everyone stay safe in this bitter cold.

Amazing quilts, great photos!!
We’re getting ready to deal tomorrow with the snow we got today – probably a foot or better at my house in central OH. This area doesn’t usually get that much at once, so everything has come to a screeching halt. This storm has been a doozy and so widespread! I spent the day blowing snow off the back porch, then working on sashing for Corey Yoder’s BOM – and now I’m starting to sew the rows together.
The snow event is over; our next issue is the bitter cold that we’re to get over the next few days. A lot of cancellations!
Every one stay warm and safe!!

The photos of the quilts from Road to California were lovely. Even more awesome in person. The quilts were all beautiful. I wish they would publish a book of them for everyone to see them. The vender area was overwhelming. The colors explosive. And walking the aisles for the quilt show and the sales I needed 800mg of Motrin for the pain in my legs. Ha-ha

Love all the pictures and sympathy to Louie’s owner. The art quilts are so striking but I am very traditional. I am really interested in Sandy’s quilt as I have been digging out, ironing and sorting all my scraps. Such memories! There are even some from my mother that passed in 2006. She had been in the nursing home for 10 years, so these scraps are really vintage but beautiful and in great shape. So many small calicoes as she had made dolls prior. Sandy-might I ask for the pattern name?
It is extremely cold here in upstate SC. We have had sleet, snow and ice and they are calling for more ice-up to one inch or more. Keeping my fingers crossed as we are all electric with no generator.
Everyone stay warm and safe wherever you are!

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts on Louie’s passing. It was sudden and unexpected so it’s been sad for us. Thank you Mary for your emotional support; I know you understand. Everyone please give your beloved Pets a hug, you just never know when they will pass over The Rainbow Bridge.

So sorry for your loss Barb.

I’m so sorry Barbara. It’s never easy. Hugs.

Great quilts today. Thanks to all for your pictures.
I’m sure Louie will be missed. Sorry for losing him.
I have a tv in my sewing room now, so I can keep stitching and watch the games. I’m hoping the Broncos win this week. With some questionable calls, like last week, they should pull it out!!!

Beautiful quilts! Louie was precious!
We have close to 2” of sleet/ice and gobs of all kinds of birds coming for all the birdseed, mealworms and cracked corn Darrell put out. Penny and Lucy are in their element, watching from the window. They will be tired out tonight! We have a small sparrow that enjoys sitting in the top of the Christmas wreath on our front door. I have hesitated taking it down. Last night it was still sleeping there.

Great pictures again today. Mary, thank you so much for putting this all together and thank you to all the readers who send in their pictures and comment. I always look forward to a new blog entry.

How can you call FluffyBun “spoiled” when the Fluffer is so ready, willing and able(?) to provide free consults and expert advice . . . on the spot!?
Mary EtheringtonPost author
Marlene – haha! Spoiled because I don’t even make her get down! I work around her.

Awesome quilts. Think the eagle with the clock was made by Ricky Timms? Great job on Sandy’s quilt too. So sorry for the loss of Louie. So hard to lose a pet.
We ended up with about 6” of snow. It’s bitter cold-10 below zero this morning. Sun is out and no wind so very serene looking outside. We filled the bird feeders and put bird seed out on the driveway slab yesterday so we’ve been birdwatching this morning.Hank is loving playing in the snow.

Forgot to mention Cherie’s Navajo Code Talkers. Kathy, I have a book on them, I will check to see who wrote it. Mary, is Road tonCalifornia open to all? Beautiful quilts. Our two strays have not ventured from wherever for their breakfast. I hope the Vet is keeping hers in.
Christine in AZ
Hi – yes, Road to California is open to anyone. Your quilt just has to be accepted via a picture.

Snow has just started here. It’s bitter cold but no wind. My chickens are hunkered down in their coop, hopefully they don’t get caught in the small coop because once the snow gets deep they won’t venture back out to go to the big coop where they’re safer and warmer. I’ll have to keep an eye on that situation. Good day to stay inside. The quilts are amazing as usual. Sandy I just love your quilt and pillow! The flowers are adorable. I’m so sorry about Louie – we lost our Louie a few years ago and miss him so. My daughter has two conures. One looks very similar to Noel’s! Stay warm and safe everyone! Jan in MA

What an amazing community of readers and shared work…whether ours or those admired! The inspiration! WOW.
My heart goes to Louie owner. A pet holds a special place in our lives.
The antics of Mary’s animals are always a treat! Thank you all for sharing.

The quilts from the quilt show are stunning, thanks for sharing your photos. Sandy great job on your quilt and pillow. Such talent. Pets are such a joy to our lives. They bring happiness when we least expect it.
Daughter in Dallas is doing ok, so far mostly ice. They have been spending the time playing games with their neighbors. They have quite a community of friends. My SIL parents from Spenser, Iowa were spending time in Texas also at a rented home. They went to their home in case the electricity went out as my kids bought a battery powered generator earlier this year.
Working on my pineapple blocks, they are very time consuming but that’s okay. Can’t work outside in this cold Iowa weather. Stay safe to those in the path of this storm.
Sandy D'Angelo
I love the quilt pictures today. I adore Fluffy Bun! So far it is only sleet in my area of South Carolina near Charlott. The trees are not coated with ice so my electricity is still on. I will not be going anywhere.

That house quilt is just amazing. Also love the elephants. So nice to see the picture of the parrot. A friend of my husbands raised two baby Amazon parrots from chicks. They were quite entertaining. He had a large greenhouse attached to his home where he raised orchids so they had a wonderful tropical habitat. Fluffybun looks like she owns that sewing machine! We are in the middle of the snowstorm with accompanying frigid temps. Looks beautiful, house is warm & cozy so all is good.

Beautiful quilts. So sorry for your loss of Louie.
I hope everyone stays safe and warm. May power stay on – good sewing weather!

Yes, the quilts are incredible! Enjoying the photos with co9ffee while it’s -5 outside. No precipitation for us in SW Iowa.
Kathy in western NY
Snow is starting to come down here now. We are expecting a foot by Monday night which we can manage. We get out and shovel for the dogs every couple hours to keep a space for them by the deck. Our highway trucks are salting and keeping the roads plowed. I’m glad the winds have diminished.
Quilts are stunning and sorry about the loss of Louie. Pets are family. A lady who lives in our town – Andrea Page – wrote a book about the Navajo code talkers as it pertained to her family.
Cats find the oddest places to perch themselves. Fluffy Bun is so pretty.
Diane, Squeak, Buddy in Central Ohio
I agree with WOW for the quilts. Sandy, you could enter yours, too! 6” of snow on the ground and probably 7” more still to fall. That is a LOT for Central Ohio. It is beautiful and quiet.

Fluffy Bun is seeming to say “Not today” as she/he sits on top of your sewing machine Mary. Beautiful quilts!

The quilts, WOW! The lion is spectacular. Just WOW!
