Lots of photos today!

Church tomorrow and Fever game on ABC at 2 central time.
P.S. I writing this in the porch during what is probably my last evening sitting here. The wind has come up and switched and because itās rustling all the dry corn stalks it actually sounds like itās raining. I will need to close the door into the house before Rick reminds me of the change in temperature!

This post is just wonderful, Mary. This is my favorite
time of year, and all the pictures are great! The last of the zinnias are beautiful; I definitely need to plant them next year. Finn and Ivy are adorable. I love all the beautiful fall quilts.
Take Care, š„°
Mary, love your wonky log cabin! It looks so soft and cozy, can’t wait to see it quilted. So sorry to hear about your doctor appointment, such a shame that he couldn’t be even a little bit compassionate. Loving all the pictures. Had a few drops of rain this evening, not enough to wet the sidewalk, ugh! We so badly need rain!! It does look like we might get some in the next day or two, hope they are right this time. Thanks for all you do for the blog about nothing, it’s so much more than that.
Loving all of the photos. The wonky log cabin quilt looks so cozy in low volume colors. Thanks for posting the game time and channel-watching it!
The bat quilt pattern from Maurineās photo is called Bats and Boos and, is a free pattern from the Fat Quarter shop. So cute!
I love seeing all the quilt photos as well as the flowers and pets. The blog is always full of inspiration. I agree, Mary, that the comments are a great part of your blog. Like talking with friends. Thanks for all you do.
Mary, so sorry you have a Dr. that is not compassionate. You wouldn’t go to see him if you weren’t sick, and being lectured only makes you feel worse. I think I would try to find a different doctor. Enjoy your blog and read all the comments most of the time. We need rain here ,too.
It has been coolish enough here in upstate SC this week that I’m pretty sure the hummingbirds have left for the season. I haven’t seen any for two days now even though yesterday our temps were in the 90’s and calling for same today. Mary-love the beautiful pastel wonky blocks! I also love Maureen’s bat blocks and the pumpkin face-pattern names? I know the frustration with the medical field all too well. I have an appointment on the 30th that I have been waiting 9 months for with a gastroenterologist and this is with the PA to see if I actually need to see the Dr. This is to schedule my colonoscopy/endoscopy which I have had every 5 years for the last 30 years because my mother died from colon cancer and I always have polyps. Such a racket!!
Debbie Miller – I think 9 mos is way too long to see the dr if you have a history of colon cancer in your immediate family. Just my opinion
Loved the photos today. The pumpkin quilt is really nice. That pattern intrigues me every fall but I have resisted it so far. Resisting Christmas quilts too! But I love to look at them!
I had one cataract surgery last year and second eye this year. It’s wonderful to be able to thread a needle easily again. Good luck with your surgeries.
Beautiful quilts today especially the fall quilts. I love all the pictures. Our warm weather will be ending this week, too. Still going to be 90 today. I’ve seen them harvesting the corn. I’m afraid it’s not going to be a good harvest with this drought. It’s worse in eastern Ohio. We’re not even in the worst of the drought in western Ohio. Football weekend. I love to watch the games on tv. Have a wonderful weekend.
Love the pictures today and all the comments, it’s fun to read what everyone has to say, it’s like listening in on conversations in a room full of people! Have a fabulous Sunday everyone. Looks like we may get that much needed rain today.
Linda – the comments are the best part! And I know many readers who DONT READ THE COMMENTS! Theyāre just reading what I have to say?? The blog about nothing??? Gets under my skin because thatās not my goal at all. Why would they only be interested in what I say? I donāt do anything interesting. And they wonāt even know what Iām saying here because they donāt read the comments!
Great pictures today! Such beautiful flowers and quilts. Maureen, I love the first pumpkin quilt. Such pretty colors. Mary, I also love your wonky log cabin. I’ll have to try that one.
I went to Apple Hill near Placerville on Thursday with my daughter-in-law and 2 grandkids. It’s an area that has several apple farms with the best apples, veggies and berries, venders selling all kinds of crafts, bakeries. We all had a blackberry turnover with vanilla ice cream. So yummy! My husband and I went every year but I haven’t been there for a couple of years. I came home with fugi and empire apples, Asian pears, pumpkin butter, truffle mustard and lemon curd. My DIL bought lots of boxes of pears she is going to dry.
Last night I went to see Tim Hawkins, a Christian comedian. Laughed so hard my jaws hurt. It’s good to laugh. Made a couple of Veteran wheelchair quilt tops today. I’m resting tomorrow!!
My friend and I went to a town 75 miles away to pick up my car. A long story thereā¦so, the best part of my day? I had a few.
We were too early, the restaurant didnāt open for 15 more minutes, so we went to downtown. This little community no longer has a quilt shop, but it has many flea markets. Searching a flea market in another town is such fun. Best part #1.
I found wood planes, normally Iād get them for my husband. My friend said she often gets her boy things her husband collected. So, instead of being sad over losing my husband, Iāll give them to our son. Best part #2.
I found a lunch box for my nieces. She collects them. #3
Then, a beautiful treadle sewing machine called my name. Itās beautiful and very inexpensive. #4
My friend found sherbet glasses that match her dishes. And Longaberger (sp?) baskets in perfect condition.
We werenāt sure how we were going to load the sewingā machine in my carā¦itās very heavy. Starving, we went to lunch hoping to find someone walking around to help us load. We went back to the flea market and someone has just gone in the store and would help load.#5
I came home and wondered how I was getting it in my house. While watering plants, my wonderful neighbors came over to see the work Iād done to the back yard. They brought the machine into my house. These angels fell out of the sky to help me. #6
I have some truly amazing neighbors. So many ābest thingsā today.
All the pictures are grand today..thank you all.
JO! What a day you had! My first thought was – how in the world is she going to get that treadle home? And then into the house? Wow, your guardian Angel was watching over you today – what a story!
jo, i’m so happy that you had just a great day. patti in florida
Joy, Your day sounds like it was so much fun. Everything just fell into place. Flea markets are wonderful. Looking through everything there is so interesting but, finding such treasures is great.
Jo (not Joy) for my comment!
I enjoyed the photos. Maureen’s fall quilts are really cute. Cool weather coming to So. MN tomorrow. We had wind today. I’m still at my mother’s house sorting. My goodness I think she saved every envelope that came into the house in the last few years ( she wrote her grocery list on them and put her coupons inside). I’m finding photos and memorabilia mixed in with newspaper and magazine recipes she had cut out. I learned that “free time” at my home will be used to sort and dispose of lots of items I’ve collected. I don’t want my belongings to be a burden for my husband or kids. Oh, except my fabric…it’s not going anywhere at this time. Haha!
Martha, if you need it, WyHy is having a free shredding day Oct 19.: I save and take junk mail and important papers there.
Well Martha I am a chip off your mothers block. Iāve had a basket sitting on the counter for 40+ years next to the wall phone (yup we still have a land line) that contains envelopes. I too write messages, grocery lists and tuck in coupons. I have a vintage letter opener that allows me to have a crisp clean opened envelope after taking out whatās inside, My kids got in the habit growing up to leave us a message so we always knew to check the counter for an envelope.
Itās a different world now of communication for our childrenās families but my husband and I still use them to say one walked to the library, one already let the dogs out to poddy, one was way out back dropping off leaves, etc. My family will chuckle someday when they move that rectangle basket off the counter filled with envelopes remembering how we would say to them ājust leave us a noteā where you are.
Martha, I think your mom is related to my mom and dad – I think my dad never met a piece of paper (or wood, they were both woodworkers) that he didn’t love – AND KEEP. We’ve been going thru papers that Dad kept going back to the early ’50s. We’ve had plenty of backyard recreational fires to dispose of these papers – reading some of them and keeping a few historical documents in the photo albums I filled (that my kids won’t care about anyway). Dad has been gone for 3 years and Mom passed away in May, so I’ve been going thru envelopes and papers! and photos! and news clippings and all kinds of memorabilia. And collections of things. And books. But a couple of weeks ago we had a garage sale and at least got rid of my brother’s ‘stuff’ that he had stored in their attic for 25 years and lots of her big and little things. I brought home 5 boxes of Christmas and holiday decorations and was able to keep a couple of memories (the white ceramic tree from 1969!) and a few ornaments for her great grandchildren. My brother is going to live in the house for now so we have the luxury of taking our time going thru everything, although I’m not sure if that is a good or bad thing lol.
Maureen, what beautiful fall quilts! Mary, your wonky log cabin is a winner; very soft looking. Your cool weather sounds really wonderful. 94 degrees today. I am sooo over this heat. Praying for rainā¦maybe Monday?
Mary,
Iām sorry your porch sitting time is ending! Hopefully, you will get a few more days here and there. Down here south of Houston, Texas, we are excited that it will be in the low 90ās early next week. Porch time for us!
Great Pictures! Iād love to know the pattern of Maureenās quilt on the top of her quilt rack! Loved the Hocus Pocus quilt too!
Sharon G ,thatās terrible about doctors. Here in Idaho it takes 4 to 6 months to see a new pcp. It took me 4 month and just lucky to have one.i have to schedule all my referrals and go to a pharmacy for immunization. So sad.
On a lighter note I love all the pictures.
Love love love everyoneās pictures! Thanks for sharing! This blog truly is a bright spot in my day!

Was 94 in SW Ohio today. Went to granddaughters soccer game at 2;15. Luckily one end of the field had shade trees so we sat there w/ a very warm breeze. The girls were given a water break midway through each half. She was a very sweaty 12 year old by the end of the game.
Rain is a possibility by mid week as 3/4 of Ohio is in a severe drought. Praying we see it. So much dust from fields and dry grass & leaves dropping.
Went to a fabric store tent sale to purchase backing fabric that was reduced. I purchased quite a bit but needed it to finish tops that are waiting. I have my block exchange blocks for a retreat done finally. It was a struggle to focus.
Need to return to habit of making a list for the week to get things done. So much more efficient of time.
Mary – Nice photos today. Your wonky log cabin turned out great! Good job! š
I moved back to my hometown in April to be closer to family. I decided to find a local doctor. Went for appointment. Doctor only communicates through the chart. I asked for a refill of 2 prescriptions. No response to 2 messages and RX message. I could wait no longer so I called the pharmacy who called my previous doctor 100 miles away. Thankfully he okād refills otherwise Iād be without blood pressure medication. So I guess Iāll just have to travel to previous doctor for appointments. So disappointing!
The weather where I now live (eastern Washington) has been sunny and in the 70-80 degree range. Nice September.
Iām not working on any quilt projects this week. Spent last weekend recovering from a reaction to flu/covid vaccinations. It was horrible. I was recovered enough by Tuesday to go to a nephewās birthday party.
Take care everyone.
Sharon G – I have the same story. The dr. Who ordered my first CT scan has never answered one call or email or portal question. Why??? So I made an appointment with another local Dr. because I needed a home base Dr. to refill prescriptions, etc. I came home and cried. He lectured me for at least 30 min on what a dark future I was facing. What a dire situation and demoralizing health dilemma. He thought I should see a therapist – I think heās the one who should see the therapist! So now I donāt feel comfortable with him at all. What do I do now? Try another hometown Dr.? This is a rural area – not many to choose from. He has just made everything worse – I saw him a couple weeks ago and my mood has certainly plummeted. I feel your pain!
Mary, Rick is right! Donāt leave any windows open Or you will be turning your furnace on tomorrow! ššš Indian summer will come
Joy – I came inside and closed the door – wow, what a change!
Mary by 5 am they predict 54 degrees! I am not sure Iām ready for that but so it goes!
I have my cataract surgerty on my left eye Thursday and the right eye will be nest Thursday! Oh boy will I be ready!! My eye sight is really goofy. Anyone that has had this done definitely knows how it goes! Happy Sunday! Love you!
Oh boy is that way off. Just had left eye this past Thursday and the right eye next Thursday!
It’s definitely easy surgery Joy and you will love your new eyes! Wishing the best of luck for that. And yes, SW Iowa cooled down overnight too! Fall is my fav time of year so I am a happy camper.
