She Stands Alone! 2-28 -24

What more can you say about Caitlin Clark? Iowa played Minnesota tonight and Caitlin was on fire and so were several other Iowa players – Marshall, McCabe, Davis – and others! Iowa won 108-60 and Caitlin broke several more records during the game. After the game Caitlin signed many autographs for fans – little girls are enthralled with her. One held a sign that said – we came to The Barn to see The Goat!

She stands alone – sort of like this cane I took a picture of at the grocery store today. Ha!

I worked retail for years. We were always finding canes around the store. Mostly they came back, sometimes a family member would come in looking for it. You always knew that “look”.

  2. Sandy

Hi Mary, glad Caitlin did so well! I used to work in retail also and we had many miracle cures when canes were no ļonger needed! Had a fall at the entrance to the carport today trying to step over the kids scooters, banged my head on the tool cabinet and couldn’t get up! Fortunately several neighbours were there and helped me up, so taking it easy now. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

Sandy I hope you aren’t too sore, I found d out the older we get you can’t go over things just around them. Glad your neighbors were close by. Take care now.

Hope you are ok Sandy. Falls can be bastier than we realize. Take care.

      1. DebMac

I don’t know if you meant “nastier” rather than “bastier”, but I rather like the term “bastier”. Short for “B*****d” in a more polite and more emphatic way.

Sandy – NO! Oh my – there’s a lesson here for the kids – don’t leave your scooters where someone could trip over them. Did your neighbors hear you calling for help? Are you sure you shouldn’t see a doctor?

I agree, Mary. Sandy might well have a concussion. Besides rest, she should greatly reduce screen time (TV, computer, etc.)

Us Minnesotans knew it was going to be a blow out, but even we weren’t ready for the Caitlan train that rolled through. Hats off to her and the team for such a great season (yes, I know there is one game left). They played at 11am here and, although I didn’t get to watch it live, watching that scoring counter continually go up was amazing.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Deb – they were on fire last night! I almost felt sorry for those MN girls – almost.

  4. Angie from Baltimore

She is AMAZING and such a good role model for girls.
Amazing what you see when out and about. I heard that your shadow is your guardian angel watching over you but not sure the significance of a stand alone cane. Maybe someone that really isn’t dependent. If you ever have spare time ( that is to be funny) check out the lost and found at Disney world I heard they have a prosthetic leg. I am sure there are really some things people leave behind.
    Have a wonderful weekend

Congratulations to Caitlin. She has earned everything that she has achieved which proves how hard work pays off. What a great example to young girls.

Nanc – yes, little boys want an autograph, too, and I should have said that – those little kids in the front rows! How do they get front row tickets?????

  6. Diane, Squeak, & Buddy in Central Ohio

Caitlin is a shooting machine! It is so nice to have the women in the spotlight. Poor OSU men struggle, but doing better. The women have been shining😀. We wish we could be in Iowa for the game! We don’t have Peacock so may go somewhere to watch. A friend told us that Peacock had a Christmas special $21.00 for the year. We will look for that next December. Our grand daughter!s Half birthday is 3/3 so we are celebrating tonight b/c she is off to Costa Rica with her friend fir Spring Break! 22* here this AM.😝

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Diane – we all wish we could be at that game!! I sorta hate to think of all those young kids going to Mexico, etc during spring break.

      1. Diane, Squeak, & Buddy in Central Ohio

That is good to hear it is on Fox; we will watch it for sure! Our grand daughter’s friend is teaching Spanish at Muskingum and they will go to her home in Costa Rica. I agree some places are less safe than others for sure. Sunny, but cool here today.

That cane can tell some stories, I bet someone is used to leaving it behind. Sandy, take care, falls can be tricky to recover from. Glad you had helpful neighbors. Caitlin is amazing and now so many are watching her, what a pressure cooker. Have a great week everyone and stay safe, its icy in places.

  8. Donna Jo

Just a great game all around! So glad my hubby said we need to get Peacock for a month. It would not have been nearly as exciting as listening to the game on the radio!

  9. Susan

Oh my goodness That looks like my husband’s. I took him to the emergency room Last Wednesday and when they moved him to his room no cane. I’m not sure how it got from Ohio to Iowa but there it is, mystery solved.

Love the Caitlin stories. So nice to have a spotlight on women’s basketball. Sunday is Iowa-OSU game. Fun times for sports fans.
We also found a stand alone cane at Sam’s club. My husband walked around asking people if it was theirs😃 He found a man pushing a cart. He didn’t know because he had the stability of the cart.
My aunt ‘lost’ her glasses in an ER visit and never found them. She was asked to sign paperwork that she couldn’t see.
This weather in Ohio is such a tease. Not liking the tornadoes that had to touch down here.
Farmer Tim-rest up as spring work is getting closer.

Sandy, sorry to hear about your fall. It can happen so quickly. Very glad that you
have great neighbors. Hope your recovery will be complete.

  12. Jan Hebert

Sandy, I hope you are ok! Should you get your head checked out – make sure there’s no concussion? I would worry about that. So glad your neighbors were there to help! Jan in MA

I am sorry to say I fell asleep during the game. Cataract surgery yesterday, so quite tired last night.
I can see much better this morning – everything looks like it’s under fluorescent lights!
My latest sewing project is hearts for the “I Found a Quilted Heart” program. Just a fun pick me up for someone who needs a smile. Google it – they are just small quilted hearts to be left where they can be found anonymously.
I’ve put my 30 Stars aside for now until I get new glasses and can work on the log cabin portion. Can’t read, can’t sew – TV is boring. Maybe a walk is in order. Hate being in limbo, I am way too fidgety to sit still for long.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Diana – can you just sew 2-1/2” strips together? Of all the games to fall asleep in, this was a good one – Iowa so overpowered MN that it was not exciting. You didn’t miss anything really BUT Sunday’s game will not be like this. Becky says she likes this type of game better – not so hard on nerves! Cataract surgery will change your life.

    2. Betty Klosterman

Colors will be out of this world. Before surgery for me, light blue looked like it had a screen of smoke. After Oh, My!! It was beautiful.

    Mary,
It was a terrific game. Caitlin was terrific and the records keep falling. The game Sunday is on Fox tv! The ratings are going to be great.
Sandy, I hope you recover quickly from your fall.
Susan, your comment made me chuckle! Hope your husband is on the mend.
    Have a great day everyone!

  15. Sharon F

Sandy, so sorry you had a fall! I hope you weren’t seriously hurt and that you will be 💯 soon.

  16. Karen Cyr

what an awesome game. What an awesome player/person. It would be wonderful to see her play another season, but my guess is she will turn pro. Indiana is relatively close to her home, and her close friends on the team, like Kate Martin, will be leaving. but what a joy it has been to watch her and what an ambassador for Iowa.

Congratulations, to Caitlin and the rest of her teammates! Hope you made it home from choir practice in time to catch the whole game, Mary.
Thanks to the reader who shared the Potato Soup Recipe (has cream cheese and Southern Hash Browns.) I made it yesterday and we really liked it. The recipe is a keeper!😀

    1. Betty Klosterman

I make that potato soup recipe in the Crock Pot all the time. It freezes great.

Sandy, sorry to hear about your fall, I wonder if you should be checked for a concussion!
I don’t have peacock , but I sure enjoy hearing about her on this blog. She sounds like a great girl.

  19. Charlotte

That is a sad picturee. Neede both hands to carry water and no one to help. Story of most stored now days.

  20. Joy in NW Iowa

    Caitlin is an amazing gal!

Sandy, I sure hope you are doing ok! Falling when we get older can be a life changing experience. My girlfriend fell on her hip and crushed it! Three months later she is moving but walking with a cane,

    Windy here today and tomorrow….

I waiting until ‘tea time’ to read the comments today 😂

  21. Lynette in Orlando

Mary, just heard on the news that Caitlin will be going into the WNBA draft. I hope and pray for all the best for this wonderful young woman.
