Oh, what a beautiful morning,
Oh, what a beautiful day!
I got a beautiful feeling
Every things goin my way!
MI know you’re singing along with me as I sit with my coffee in the porch, no wind, sun shining, looking east at Tim’s corn.

There can never be enough of these days, can there?
I think we’ve got the comments issue figured out – WordPress must have changed something about a month ago – no, they didn’t announce a change but they did announce an update and I detest updates. Why mess with a good thing that’s working just fine?
Anyway I think you readers have helped me figure it out and these are the new and current “rules”:
You can no longer read the comments or leave a comment when you click on the email.
You must click on “Blog” which will take you online and there you will find the comments at the bottom as well as the “reply” box.
I hope you’ll give this a try because I have always maintained this blog has never been intended for me to be the entertainment. If people don’t comment what’s the sense in keeping it alive? When I get smarter about the inner workings of the blog I’ll be able to tell which subscribers leave comments and which ones don’t and I will delete those quiet readers.
Being the only one chatting is a huge amount of pressure and obligation and even though I love the blog and all of you I might not be able to keep up in the future.
This is me last night watching two different games at once.

Caitlin and The Fever play today at noon on CBS.
See this pile of old bedding from the barn?

This was taken after she dug a tunnel in the big tire where I grew radishes.

This bag represents one of the most fabulous thrift store finds I’ve ever purchased. $3.00! This bag by a major designer which appears to be brand new sells for $85.00 USED on Etsy. USED!!! What was the original price, I wonder? I gave it to Sam at the big birthday bash on Wednesday because her birthday is in a couple weeks but she’ll be gone camping with her family.

Mollie’s coming out to spend the day with us – don’t forget the game at noon on CBS.
I think I’ll get another cup of coffee to stretch out this gorgeous morning on the porch.

Mary,
Great Blog post today!
That little piglet is so cute and Hazel she does love to dig! Ibet she has to have a bath almost daily 🙂
I saw a couple of great news articles about Caitlin & The Fever in the USA Today and the Indy Star….if you didn’t see them and would like too, I will mail them to you. The one in the Star was about Make A Wish being granted to an Iowa girl & the USA article was about how she is affecting the WNBA salaries.
Lots of rain in Lafayette today & tomorrow…leftovers from the hurricane.
Enjoy your week!
Sandy in Indiana
Boy thought would never get to end of comments !
Elated problem solved ( at least for present ) & thanks for directions on how can comment again.
Beautiful day here & actually cool enough to work in yard .
Finally got stone edging around front flower beds , of course list all my vincas in process but I can replant.
Temperature here has varied from hot to hotter. However that is Texas in summer !
Love the patriotic bullseye quilt, I may just gleem that idea as I try to make a quilt a quarter to been given to a veteran at a local veterans group. The last one I made was presented to a Vietnam veteran, a nurse that served & was there in 1971.
Keep watching weather & the progression of Beryl, expecting make landfall within a few hours.
Nikki – we are watching Beryl, too, and hoping it’s not as destructive as predicted. Yes, I know Texas is not in the summer. Iowa should be warmer than it is. I’m wearing a heavy sweatshirt tonight. 🙁
Love the animal pictures. So far quite a few triple digit days. Good days for sewing. Stay cool and safe.
I enjoy reading your blog and the comments posts, although I rarely comment. It is hot and dry where I live. My yard and flowers look terrible.
Mary – love this blog. Hope you don’t cancel me. I don’t always comment.
My lawn was beautiful and lush when I moved in to my house in April. It’s got an underground watering system which I am uneducated in since where I used to live was watered by Mother Nature. Now the lawn is drying out. I need to change the days and times to water to keep the grass alive. It’s expensive because it’s city water, not irrigation water from the snow and rain runoff in the mountains.
Ugh! This week will be hot. 110 is forecasted for Tuesday! 🥵
Take care everyone.
Sharon – have someone help you get that irrigation turned on or your grass will surely die. Is everyone’s grass dying? Two years ago ours nearly died – huge patches were bare. This year it’s recovering. Hang in there.
I can’t believe how many comments there are today and I absolutely love it. I just adore Hazel but I think you should be glad she’s white or you wouldn’t realize how dirty she truly was when she climbs into bed with you! Haha
Pat in sizzling steamy AZ
Wow so many comments today. For some reason the comments worked perfectly for me and now the last two days I sometimes see the comments and sometimes don’t. Today’s post July 7th no matter what I do there isn’t a way to comment. Happened two days ago and then I waited a day and voila I could comment. Oh well not a lot we can do if WordPress decides to “upgrade” their system. At work we always called upgrades a downgrade because pretty much that’s what it was.
I found you not too long ago and love the community. I’m in Flagstaff and it will be 94 today which is super hot for here. My garden loves it but me? Not so much. Hopefully we’ll get an afternoon thunderstorm to help cool things down. When we moved here three years ago, our white Shih-Tzu Maltese (Moo) found a pile of javalina poop and rolled in it. We didn’t have full utilities at that point, so he got a very cold bath. He never did that again!
Dogs sure do like to dig. Guess it’s in their nature. Lost my shih tzu a couple of weeks ago. She had heart disease. She died in my arms. I am so heart broken and miss her sweet little face.
Had a thunder storm yesterday and the thunder was so loud, but the rain was welcomed. Well have to wait and see if we get more rain from Beryl.
Gloria, so sorry for your loss. I know your heart is hurting right now. Big hugs
Gloria – oh my, I am so sorry! I can tell you miss her sweet little face. Heart disease for both dogs and people is cruel. Telly’s heart was bad, too.
Love reading all the comments again!
I would love to have a porch like yours! I’m sure I would pretty much live out there when the weather is nice. It’s been hotter and more humid than usual here in Michigan, so I’ve been spending more time indoors.
Have a wonderful day!
Thanks for the heads up on the Fevers game on CBS! I usually know because of you, so thanks ! I can just watch when it is on some channels. Love their win Saturday!!!
I love this red, white, and blue bullseye quilt! Think I might do mine that way too. This piglet is ADORABLE!
Yes, it’s still so stinking hot here in Central Ca, yesterday was 111 and today is suppose to be 109! UGLY HOT for way too long. I’m trying to get my walks in about 6 and it’s about 70 degrees, better than 100+
Mary—I’m so glad you got the comments figured out. I will read them on the blog and comment so I can keep getting the updates! I so love reading what is going on on the farm and with your quilting and sports updated. Such an exciting game yesterday and so glad the Fever got the W. And Caitlin’s grace and humility through all the haters are just jealous. I don’t get why the other players can’t see that she is also boosting their paychecks!!!
Debbie in Iowa
Debbie – and you’re right – Caitlin is boosting their paychecks and their extra amenities.
What a great community you’ve built with your blog, Mary. I’m an occasional commenter & love each time I open my email & see yours ready to read & enjoy. The little pug face made my day! ❤️
I meant pig! Haha!
I love reading your blog.
Mary, although a silent reader, I do so enjoy following your life in a farming community, your quilts, your collections from the past, your gardens, and those of your readers. I also love the pictures of Hazel’s adventures. (This from a city girl with no pets who doesn’t have to keep her looking white!).
I made one trip through Iowa about 35 years ago on a bus trip across the continent heading west through the US and back east through Canada. It was such an experience to see the changing terraine and the lifestyles and employment embraced. It certainly showed me what the railroad meant to our ancestors.
A favourite photo this week is your sewing room/media set up – just another hint at how you achieve so much. May your favourite teams win.
I am pleased to know how to read the comments again.
Hello to everyone from around the globe.
Hello Susan! From Pat in Az
So happy the comments are back!! Love the bullseye table topper. More weeds to pull in my gardens but almost caught up!! Thanks Mary for all that you do and your time spent on this blog.
Wow! There’s so many comments on this one! I guess everyone’s afraid you’re going to delete them! It’s hot and dry here in Northern Virginia. There’s been some rain, but it keeps going around us! Hopefully we’ll get some soon and not have to water so much. I can never say thank you enough, Mary, for doing this blog. I really enjoy reading it — and, yes, the comments are wonderful, too!
Wow, comments back with loads of comments. There has been a lack of something important with comments gone. Reader interaction is important.
It took 2 1/2 cups of coffee to read all the comments today! I don’t comment very often just to keep from repeating what everyone else has said, like how darn cute that Hazel is and what a little stinker she can be. I thought I learned my lesson about having a white farm dog but it doesn’t matter what color they are, farm dogs are meant to be into everything they can. It’s nature! My little Aussie always has her head in a hole looking for a mole, mink, weasel or bunny and guess who is waiting for his turn – Nelson! Sometimes he finds an exit hole and they trench together. I don’t care for digging because it makes our rough terrian worse and poor Don suffers when mowing.
I feel sorry for the gal who is coming to visit in Detroit to find cooler weather, Michigan has turned into a southern state! Being Louisvile born and raised I always enjoyed Michigan summers without super high temps and humidity but we have become tropical over the last few of years. If someone doesn’t believe the climate is changing get out of the house!!
Stay cool Mary. I’m off to clean the barn which now with only Albert and Norman is normally quick and easy but I do need a load of sawdust today.
Thanks for the pictures! I think the messy piglet picture is my favorite.
I do hope you keep me on your list. I don’t always have something constructive to write in response or feel well enough to write, but I enjoy reading the blog and sending in a rare photo.
Glad you got everything figured out! Don’t make it too hard for us old folks….I love your blog and read it just about every day! Not much going on here.
Terriers will be terriers. Ours like to roll in the leaves which we have all the time here in Florida. That little piglet is so cute.
I’m glad you figured out the comments for us Mary. They make the blog even more interesting to read. Fun to see where your readers are from. Your porch is so inviting. My sewing and quilting has been a little slow lately. I broke my left ring finger in April when my son’s dog took off on me and his leash was wrapped around my hand. Slowly getting better. I was lucky enough to attend a red white and blue retreat at Primitive Gatherings in Larson, Wisconsin, a couple weeks ago. All our projects were red white and blue. So much fun. And I agree, summer decorations stay up until about the time school starts. I enjoy your blog about nothing.
Mary,
Great blog today! And took quite a while to read all the comments but so worth the time!
I also had to look up the trombone birthday and will ask my friend who directs our community band if he knows what it is. He taught band and was the band director for many years at a local school. He’s a great musician and teacher.
Two of my daughter’s dogs are mostly white and the smaller of them, Daisy, loves to dig in the flower beds through the wood chips to rest her belly on the cool dirt. She gets a belly pat down every time we come inside. My daughter and son-in-law are in North Carolina celebrating their first wedding anniversary. They have seen several bears. I’ll send you a picture they shared.
And lastly, what a game for the Fever today!! So exciting and CC was sooo focused and then so modest and composed after the game. I saw the Liberty’s Breanna Stewart on the Kelly Clarkston show and it was an interesting interview.
Thank you Mary for telling us about Caitlin Clark. I started following her during her senior year at college on your recommendation. Now that she is playing for the Indiana Fever, every game is great. I love to watch her play basketball. You can just tell by watching her play and move around the court how much she loves the game.
Dianne – I am so happy you’re enjoying CC and The Fever – today was such a fantastic win, I was jumping up and down with my heart in my throat most of the time. Aren’t we all just so proud of her, her accomplishments and her composure and attitude? I am! Today at the news conference when she ran out of words and finally said, “I don’t know what to say” her teammates stepped in and gave her congrats, too. And once again, she is Iowa nice.
I love your blog and would hate to not be able to read. I live on an acreage and help my brother when he needs help. I don’t always read the comments, but it’s always interesting to read them when I get the chance.
Thank you for writing.
Kathy Duval – I encourage you to join the conversation thru the comments – it’s really the best part!!
Hi Mary,
I’m jealous of your beautiful morning. It is blistering here. heat index was 103 today. We really can’t get out much. Loved all the critter pics today. Hazel is such a ham. Love her.
Frances – I wouldn’t be sitting in the porch if it felt like 103!! Maybe it felt like 75 -80 which is perfect. I wouldn’t go anywhere either if I were you.
Yes, Mary, I was singing with you; I loved that music! When my boys were lower elementary school age, our county theatre group performed “Oklahoma” one summer, and our family attended. The next day, our Jeff was singing and dressed in his cowboy gear—so cute.
So, did you harvest any radishes from the tractor tire, before Hazel dug her tunnel? My mother loved radishes from her garden every spring and got me hooked on radish sandwiches—sliced radishes, butter, salt, and leaf lettuce. 😊
Enjoy the cool weather. Thanks, Mary 🥰
Jeanie – yup, I enjoyed my crop of radishes as peanut butter and radish sandwiches. Now my peas are done, too, so my gardening is finished till I pick pumpkins. Rick’s tomatoes aren’t looking too good – cold and rainy doesn’t grow nice tomatoes.
In this weeks historical fiction reading adventures I learned in the Victorian era radishes were served cooked
Hi Mary, I live on a small farm just outside a small town in country Victoria, Australia. I love reading your blog everyday, your stories of life in Iowa and your readers contributions also. Interesting how different the American traditions are to ours over here. Also the weather, we are in the middle of winter here, zero or below temperatures overnight but a few sunny days also. Crops are all sown and just beginning to strike. School holidays at the moment, we have raised two grandchildren and also still have a third one at home, so I’m enjoying a few “sleep-ins”. Being as it’s winter I am knitting Jackets for some GrGr Nephews and have put the sewing away for awhile. My sister and I travelled to Paducah to the Quilt Festival and of course a visit to Hancock’s, we had the best time. Started in LA, Dallas, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Nashville, Paducah, St Louis and five days in Honolulu. (Not sure if that was the right order). No matter where we went everyone was so welcoming and kind to us, can’t say enough about how beautiful the people were. We do hope to back again one day. Even though I don’t comment please don’t delete me as your blog is the first thing I read every morning at breakfast. You are a Basketball fan but here we are in the middle of AFL Football season and I’m a Bombers (Essendon) fan and we are third on the ladder, hoping for a Grand Final birth this year, fingers crossed. Thankyou for sharing your daily life with us readers. Cheers Ros
Ros – I need to get educated on AFL Football – is Bombers the name of the team from Essendon (a place?) – I’m still thinking basketball! I am always grateful when you folks remind me of our opposite seasons. I can never get over going to the beach on Christmas!
Yes Mary Essendon is a place. Originally the league was called Victorian Football League (VFL) as teams were only from suburbs around our capitol city Melbourne, but now it includes teams from some other states so the name changed to the Australian Football League (AFL). I also follow our local league as I have Grandchildren and Gr Nieces & Nephews that play too. All minor league football clubs have girls netball teams also and I just love watching all the kids play.
Roslyn – I figured it was something like that – I know all the kids love to have you come and watch, don’t they?
Don’t apologize for your trip order but that order would have made for a very interesting trip. How wonderful for you.
Ros, please drop a line or two when you can. We love to hear from Mary’s far away friends! Just a note about the weather, what’s for supper, or your quilting/gardening adventures would be so nice. That was some trip around the US! You have now been to states I haven’t visited. Plan to stop in the upper Midwest next time. Iowa nice is a real thing. Kris in Wisconsin
We love hearing from you Mary! I’m a farm girl wannabe who gets a fix from your blog. And the quilting projects….bonus!
Is is so good that folks have figured out how to post their comments again. I didn’t have any trouble with that and I have been clicking on the ads too.
Absolutely love Hazel. She definitely deserves her own book!
Here in my part of Georgia at my house we have not had measurable rain for at least a couple of months. Today we had one of those showers that rained not too heavy but just right for at least 30 minutes! I opened all the doors and just enjoyed the sound and smell!
It has been a hard year for me with a lot of family illnesses, etc. In January during the coldest weather I had to have the heating/AC unit replaced. Just recently I had to have all the drain pipes (which are in the crawl space} replaced. They were cast iron and over 50 years old and so stopped up it was unreal – and very expensive to replace. Being in my 80’s, at least I shouldn’t have to have that done again. Plus I am not worried about the new AC giving up on me. I do love to be cool (and warm too in the winter.)
Thanks so much for your blog, which I also look forward to and read first!
Brenda – and I just love hearing about your life! Home maintenance issues are always difficult … and expensive! Yes, I could easily write a book about Hazel but I think I might be too tired. Haha! And thank you for helping support the blog.
I took the time to read every comment….usually do, but rarely say anything. Here’s my earth shattering comment…Mel’s is ab150 miles from Garner, and the Lynx (watching right now) play the Fever next Sunday. It’s by far the closest you’ll get to see Caitlin in person….make some reservations, get a ticket, and come to see her! I know you make the trip to Rochester periodically, and this would be ever so much more fun!
Rats….i had intended to write Minneapolis…abbreviated it and then it was massacred….
Brenda – I know that game is next week – would be very fun to watch in person, wouldn’t it? Have I asked you before if you know the Wayt family or the Steiff family in your area?
No, I don’t know those names, but I am good friends with your sister in law, Jan Larson.
Brenda – don’t you like in Brainerd? Or Cross Lake?
Thought of you when I was watching the game today. What an exciting game and so fun to see the improvements they’ve made in each of their recent games. I must say I was really disappointed in their earlier games this season but they seem to have found their stride!
It works!
I remember a children’s book about the diggingest dog and Hazel must have inspired it somehow. She is cute all dirty but the smell must have been a killer. Tiny pigs with dinner on noses are just adorable. Love these pictures. It has been very hot and humid here in South Carolina so I stay in and sew. Looking at the ravine out my window makes me want to go out in all the green beauty until I go out and get hit with the blast of heat. Then I retreat.
I think we could smell Hazel all the way down here in Kansas City! Dan and I got a good laugh with you watching two games at a time. You are as bad as a lot of men watching football. Lol. What a game and Caitlin getting a triple double too! I didn’t believe we could get the win.
Donna – I didn’t either! My heart was in my throat the whole game and when we got behind 7 I was heartbroken. Ye of little faith, I told myself! Thrilling game!!!
So good this has been ironed out! I look forward to the animal antics, reader quilts, and life on the porch!
Hello again, I just couldn’t wait for your next blog post to comment on Caillin Clark! Thank you for the reminder about Indiana Fever’s game. We hunkered inside and watched the game. I’m so excited for her. The first Rookie ever to accomplish a Triple-Double! (I had to look that up! lol) It’s so humid here – the air is sticky and it seems that bugs have teeth and get angry when it’s this hot. Our farmer’s corn is yellow at the bottom and certainly not as high as Farmer Tim’s. Rain is skirting around our valley. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. It’s nice to read all the comments again. xxoo
I’m glad to see someone else didn’t know what a triple double was. I watched the game with my kids and my son and daughter-in-law were excited. I had to ask what it meant. It was a good game!
We had a beautiful day today! Went to a friends cookout. In the way there, I was stopped at a light and a red teuck like yours pulled along side of me. I looked twice hoping it would be you in there and that you’d be giving me a wave!! LOL The mailman brought my Dandy pattern and I can’t wait to start! Thanks for writing even when not a lot of people write back. I look forward to reading about your “world”!!
We finally got much needed rain in SW Ohio. I’m always leery when the weatherman says it will rain, because they are often wrong. But they were right the last few days! The trees really needed it; now we could use lower temperatures , too. Some friends and I went to a museum in Greenville, Ohio last week. Part of the museum is dedicated to Annie Oakley, who was born in Greenville. It was such fun! I had a fringed Annie Oakley vest when I was little. Loved it!
Those relaxing days in Iowa’s summer seem few. Definitely enjoy them! Already half way through summer…..
We have our granddaughter’s county fair bottle lamb and bucket calf at our place. I will take a picture sometime and send it.
Fantastic news that you figured this one out!!!! Love reading the blog and seeing all that is going on in your life. Rachel in AZ
So it “feels like” 104 on this side of the country (East Coast – mid-Atlantic). I am happy we have air conditioning even though I don’t like it.
Hazel is a corker!
Wow! A lot of news between the blog and the comments today.
Busy summer days, cool enough with lower humidity our windows are open!
That corn in Tim’s fields look so healthy, prayers for a good harvest.
My morning started at our local farmer’s market. Strawberries, rhubarb and asparagus are done for the season. Cherries are ready, summer vegetables are beginning and looked wonderful this morning. A few raspberries were available too. Blueberries should be next then apricots (I hope), peaches, pears and apples. Add the fall vegetables squash, cauliflower, brussel sprouts too. Yes! A proverbial feast of fruit & vegetable grows within a three county area. I know we are lucky and missed the flavors of local fruit during hubby’s AF career.
Dogs who hunt love to roll in the stinkiest gunk they can find. I think it is an unwritten dog law.
Hi Mary and friends! I’m so glad you were able to spend time enjoying your porch!
Chiming in from Tucson where it was 112* when I took my dad to the barbershop! I’ve got a top ready and loaded but I am stalling, it was too hot to eat and I can’t quilt when I’m hungry (cranky) so I need food first. The winds last week took down the top half of a huge palo verde tree in our front yard and when we started to cut it up we discovered a wasp nest. Now I know I’m not allergic…..
WELL IT IS NICE TO HAVE BEEN RIGHT ABOUT IT’S NOT BEING ANYTHING YOU WERE DOING WRONG!!!!!
triple doubles for a rookie !!!!!!!!
I forgot to say earlier that if anyone wants to get any Caitlyn Clark t shirts, there are a lot on Amazon now. Lots of different ones to choose from.
I had a dog once when my kids were young and we were visiting granddparents in GA with this dog. This dog looked similar to Hazel especially in color and was named Beanbag. Grandparents did not live right in the city. The dog was with the kids playing. There was safety in numbers those days. They played in an empty housing area and the dog came home smelling horrible. Hubby went over to where they were playing later to see what the dog might have gotten into. Fish carcass! We were leaving in an hr to drive home. The dog got a bath of course and if I remember correctly my hubby ended up doing it.
Yes it is a beautiful day here to and my walk this morning was so good. Been in the sewing room most of the time since. Quilted another baby quilt. Binding next and this one will be machine sewn down blinding. Needs a label too..
such great eye candy. loved all the comments also. new phrases i’ve never heard before. laughed about the white cat loving a bath. dh and i bathed a cat once and we were nothing but scratches and swore never again. that piglet is soo cute, looks just like a stuffed animal. our heat is horrible. the humidity kicked in big time about 10 days ago. it makes it hard to breathe outside. the patriotic bull’s eye is fantastic, caught my eye immediately. after my angel group meeting yesterday, i usually need about 3 days to recover. plus i went and dropped off bags of clothing at the sharing center. they do so much good there, i love giving to them. sketched out a block design from a blog last nite, knew i had tons of half square triangles (largely donations) and tried to piece it from memory today. mine is just the opposite of the one i drew but it works. will probably set it aside with the hst for a while. got new leader/ender challenge today and just set up bins to toss the right sizes in – did make one of each block to remind me what i was doing. i’m going to need to cut up more background types. slowly as i do other things. dh is finally fixing a couple of the screens around the pool. guess i shamed him by getting the pool redone. have rested enough now i need to go do something or spend time with the cat. he doesn’t understand weekends. love your blog and all your readers. i hope connie has had no more damage. i am watching hurricane beryl. feel sure that texas is going to get parts of it. hope it dies before it decides to come to florida. hugs to all, patti in florida
forgot to say, one of the ads today was for ‘non-stop flights from orlando to ottawa’ – maybe it’s cooler there.
Gotta just love Hazel!!! She’s just doing what a girl likes to do! LOLOLOL I love the patriotic bullseye quilt. And, of course, the rest of the photos. The baby blue birds were awesome and so was the piglet!! Baby animals are just too darn cute!!
Whew! I get to comment! I just have to say that I think hazel has the BEST life. She is fortunate to have such a good mom…even though they are a ton of work. Wish that all pups could be as blessed as hazel and keeper.
MARY, I LOVE TO SEE PICS OF YOUR HAZEL! SHE REMINDS ME OF OUR LUCY, A JACK RUSSELL TERRIER THAT WE HAD YEARS AGO. WHAT A FIESTY DOG SHE WAS! SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS!
Yes, it works for me to go to the blog to read it, then I can see the comments & make a comment! Hazel & Keeper look so happy having fun in the dirt!! Spent the morning here picking up tree branches in the yard from an old dead tree that my husband knocked down with his tractor (by accident, but the tree needed to come down, but of course it knocked down part of the fence when it came down!) Got the smaller branches cleaned up, but there’s still a lot of tree that my husband will have to cut up with the chain saw. But we are saving that for another day. Getting ready to go to a friend’s house for dinner & then to see some fireworks.
It was fun reading 111 comments! Thanks for getting the Comments section figured out for us. Happy Birthday, Mary and Happy Anniversary to us, also July 3rd. It was so hot and humid here that we just went out for an early dinner and that was it. But a good meal and good company. I’m sewing up some baby quilts for donation . Will send pictures when I get more done.
today’s game was so exciting! I was confident for a while and then lost my confidence and then got it back, LOL What fun game! I love your sewing room and your confidence that you can keep your place while watching your laptop & TV😍 I am not sure of how to post a photo of anything I have made or flowers, etc.
Karen in Ohio
The only way your pictures can be posted is by me – you have to send them to my email. Just imagine what would happen to this blog if everyone could post directly!
Happy to see comments back! Love the bullseye quilt! Great idea
That little bullseye is made from the leftovers of a big bullseye quilt I made. I gave the big one to a gal at church who is very patriotic since it was made with red, white and blue. I enjoyed all the pictures again to day. I don’t blame you, Mary, for giving Hazel a bath before sleeping on your bed. What a girl she is! We missed the first half of the game as we had guests until after 12, and then we ate, and I remembered at 1:00 that they were playing. Good for Caitlyn for getting a triple double. She broke another record. Scoring isn’t everything, but they are on her constantly so she finds someone else open. That’s a good point guard and has a great eye for anyone that’s open. Of course, we Iowans might be a little prejudiced. 🙂
I love the small Bullseye quilt. I have fabric set aside for the large size, but would love to make one for a table topper. Can I ask what size the blocks should be for the smaller size. I took a picture with my phone to figure out how many blocks to make.
Your dogs crack me up! Hazel the explorer, how can you keep up with her? Enjoy your nice day, we’re suffering with horrible humidity today in upstate New York. It’s pushing 90 degrees on my back porch. ugh!
Marlene – My bullseye blocks are 4″ finished, but like I said, they were leftover from a larger quilt. I used new squares for the background I probably cut them 4.5″, but the bullseye part was from what I cut out from the back of the bigger blocks, if that makes sense to you. It’s been awhile since I made it.
Jeanine – Thank you so much for the information about the bullseye quilt. I have tons of small scraps that I could use on that one. I was just reading the comments and you have many readers loving your quilt. It would be adorable in patriotic colors too. Thanks again.
Marlene,
You are welcome. It was fun to make.
Hazel is living every dog’s dream! Love her in that pail of water! Weather in Chicagoland is beautiful today – humidity is down, sun is shining and about 80 degrees where I am ( about 30 miles west). Happy belated birthday!
The Fever won! Caitlin is wonderful. The patriotic bullseye makes my heart sing. I love your pictures and farm stories, especially the dogs. I may have missed this way back, but is Farmer Tim’s field sweet corn or feed corn. The green view you have of his field is gorgeous. Being from the Pacific Northwest, Eastern Washington,
I remember the first time I visited my sister in Minnesota and kept seeing hand written signs along the road that said SCORN. I was shocked until she told me it was
S CORN, sweet corn. Then we had a good laugh.
Hundreds of acres planted to corn is NOT sweet corn. It’s field corn used in ethanol, animal feed, food products – I can’t even imagine how many things are made using corn!
Oh What A Beautiful Afternoon – the Fever won! My first time seeing her play professional (on local station) I know you’re happy too. They came from behind to win.
I’m glad the comment box has been figured out. Yea! What is it with pups and digging or rolling in the most stinky thing they can? 🤣🤣 I’ve managed to badly sprain my ankle so I’m laid up with the foot up watching tennis.
Lynette – so what were you doing to have sprained your ankle? How long will you be laid up?
Okay!!!! The ‘read in blog’ click worked to see where to make a comment. I traveled from TN, KY, IN back home to IL today (after visiting the kids). All the fields of corn and soybeans looked great in each state. Thankful for sunny skies and occasional rain!! Thank you for doing this blog. It’s my bright spot each day!
Hazel must keep you very busy in the bath department! After 8 in the morning it is way too hot here to sit out with a cup of coffee. If the breeze picks up, it is tolerable late in the evening. Expecting some rain from Hurricane/tropical storm Beryl on Monday. Maybe that will cool it off for a bit. Currently 96 at 1:45.
Thanks for the instructions. Now I can comment again. Happy belated birthday! Hazel is quite the digger. I brought my dogs out this morning and they ran for the back shed. There was a faint skunk smell in the air but thankfully no skunk.
Belated happy birthday, Mary! It’s been a hectic few days here with traveling for the Fourth but the humidity has finally dropped. Our Fourth didn’t get rained out but the humidity was horrible. Kids set off a few snaps and smoke bombs and came in filthy due to combination of smoke and humidity. They didn’t seem to mind but I had to take a nap.
The Bull’s Eye table topper is adorable. I haven’t sewn in weeks but keep plugging away with my cross stitch. Have 1 large project to finish to “catch up” and then will kit up several more large ones. June just flew by so hoping July lingers a bit.
I think I am back on the comments. Thanks for the tip!
What a find that purse is! Our local thrift store has put all the Christmas stuff out starting today. Such fun!
We saw a show on PBS recently about Rogers and Hammerstein. It had some great singers who did a variety of songs from their shows.
Of course, all of us in Texas are watching the weather and hoping that Beryl does not bring too much wind and rain. Keep all of us and the storm spotters and rescue folks in your prayers.
Thanks for the help for the comments!
Belated Happy Birthday!!
I am going to Detroit Lakes next week with my brother and SIL, to visit our brother. Sure hope it will be cooler up there! I am not a hot weather person. After at least 14″ of rain in June…are we in for a snow filled winter?
Thanks again for what you do, you are greatly appreciated.
So happy to read the comments again! Gorgeous day in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Eureka! After at least a month of not being able to read the comments or post one myself, I finally, by clicking on the word “blog” at the top of your email, got all the comments and can now participate again. Thanks for your diligence in getting this to work again, Mary. I agree with another reader that said Hazel must love baths because she does things so often to make her need one.
I live in east Texas in the piney woods and the humidity has been terrible. The days look pretty from the inside but oh when you go outside!! My son has been going through a tough time. 3 years ago he was diagnosed with colon cancer and this year it came back in his upper right lung as small cell carcinoma. He has finished with his chemo and radiation and it has decreased from baseball size to marble size. The doctors say it probably wont get any smaller. He has gone back to work full time now. He is an ICU nurse. This makes a mama worry. My daughter died 4+ years ago and I was scared I was going to loose him. But the Lord has granted our prayers. So I can deal with a small thing like humidity.
I can see that Hazel likes her bath. Maybe that’s why she digs so much. Haha
I enjoy reading the comments from readers around the country. I learned alot today…”air that you wear,” the kind of day/weather that you “put in a pocket, and “trombone year.” We’ve had nice weather in ND…got a little shower in the middle of the night. The highs have been in the low 70s. Nice for people but the gardens are suffering. It’s hard to grow a garden when it’s so cool.
Oops this is a repeat.
We’ve only hit 90 once this summer in west central MN. That will change this week unfortunately! Thanks for letting us know how to get to comments. I was lost! Am watching Caitlin right now!
What fun seeing Hazel enjoying the good pile of bedding. I think she must love baths because she certainly can give you lots of reasons for you to give her one. Hey, on these hot days, maybe she’s the smartest dog yet.
It’s been a beautiful morning here in Loveland, Co., but by noon, it will be in the 90s again and time to shut the doors and windows and head for the sewing machine….as if I needed an excuse to sew. Ha.
Granddaughter and her family from Ia. we’re here with us last week. They rafted the Poudre River, one of their favorite things to do in Co. Lots of melted Mtn. water and then it rained on them as they neared the end of their rafting trip. They certainly got cooled off after the muggy Iowa heat. She brought Kristin Hannah’s new book, “The Women” so I could read it, even though she had not read it yet herself. While they enjoyed the hikes and adventures in Rocky Mtn. Park, I stayed home and enjoyed the book. It is one of Kristin’s best books and I did finish it before they left on Fri. to return home. Loved the bullseye table topper. I may have to dig out my Country Threads book and try one myself. What size were the blocks in the topper?
I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th and remembered to thank a veteran for their service to the greatest country in the world.
Thanks Mary for getting and keeping “our” blog going. Have a blessed week, Jeanne in Co.
Jeanne – The blocks finish at 4″
Glad the comments are back. It’s scorching heat in NC
We were going to NH next week but my husband has not been feeling well. Took him to ER yesterday and he has an absessed appendix. Didn’t expect that so cancelled our trip but thankful we got answers to his illness.
Linda – whoa! Now that sounds painful and quite serious! Glad you went to the ER!
Yes very serious. They put in a drain and several IV antibiotics. Hopefully no surgery. Not sure when they will discharge him. God is good. 🙏

Hazel is a mess! I still need you to send some rain this way! It’s in the mid to high 99’s and it’s been at least a month, since we have had rain. I’m about to give up on my garden.
Laura – I wouldn’t blame you – nothing can grow in that heat without rain! Yes, Hazel is a mess quite a lot of the time! Haha!
I love a good thrift store find. You sure found a good one. I recently found a quilt kit that someone had started that was from a pattern by Jo Morton. It has 20 small basket blocks with applique handles. Everything was cut out and organized in separate bags for each block as well as plenty fabric to complete the quilt. I’m not an applique person but, gave it a try. Finished the rest of the blocks and need to put it all together. It was only $4.00.
Connie – I think I know the quilt you are talking about. I was a member of Jo Morton Club at our local quilt shop for many years. I have tons of her patterns and books. I have loads of her fabrics too. The table that we all sat around always had pre packaged fat quarters begging to go home with us after the meeting. Jo Morton is a very talented quilter and I love her primitive style. Great for you to get such a bargain. Enjoy!
Mary,
PLEASE don’t remove me from your mailing list🙏🙏!! I’ve had some health issues since mid-May, and have been having trouble getting my blood pressure regulated, among other things. I’ve TOTALLY lost my SewJo, but I DO read your blog whenever you post it. Just haven’t had the energy to comment much. Feeling MUCH better in the past week.
I had just adopted a rescue dog from Texas when all my health issues hit. UGH. Was taken by ambulance from my Dr’s office after I went for a visit because I just didn’t feel well. Which left my 2 dogs home alone. Had to ask my neighbors to check on my dogs, and they hadn’t even MET my new dog😱😱!! She’s quite a pill, and I was nervous about her biting them because I had her less than a week at that time. Poor thing was a TAD confused, but it all worked out. She is settling in pretty well now, thankfully. You never know what life will throw your way, right?
Your blog is the first thing I read when I find it in my inbox. I have ALWAYS read it directly on your blog so my process is the same as it’s always been. Sorry others have been having trouble finding the comments, though. That TRULY is the BEST part of the blog! I will try to comment more in the coming days. I SOOO wish I had an enclosed porch. I have a lovely HUGE deck, but the bugs/gnats/mosquitoes keep me from enjoying it much right now. However, it WAS a beautiful morning to hang out there a bit earlier, just enjoying an early summer morning. If only I could get my pond/waterfall up and running, it would have been PERFECT!!! Soon, I hope.
Hope everyone in the hot zones of our country can stay cool inside with A/C. The pilot light on my new water heater went out earlier in the week, possibly when we had a nasty storm Monday evening. I didn’t discover it until Wednesday night when I went to take a shower. BRRRR. Even though I was hot and sweaty, having a COLD shower was NOT fun😉😉. It got fixed yesterday, and it was MORE than just the pilot light going out. The repair was considered a warranty repair🙌🙌!! I will never take a warm/hot shower for granted again. One of the luxuries in life👍👍.
Hope the rest of your day is as pleasant as the morning. And I’m STILL humming that song. Good thing it’s a GOOD ear worm🤗🤗.
I got it now too, I did go to the blog to try and sign in before but it was nothing there so signed in again to wordpress and here I am. Thanks for all your hard work I love all the animals and the quilts and everything you post I’m one of the ones that doesn’t comment all the time sorry I’ll try to comment more cuz I don’t want you to delete me. I’m in New England we got the rain today but that’s okay more time to sew
Kathy L – thanks for your comment – I love hearing about what everyone’s doing, the weather, quilts, books, flowers, pets – I love it all!
Now I’m able to comment also. Thanks for figuring this out—again!!! Lots of extra work but the blog is so enjoyable! Appreciating your diligent work!
Beautiful day on the porch! I bet Hazel slept well! Love the bag! Belated Happy Birthday 🎈🎂!:)
I loved the comment about a trombone birthday!
The RWB bullseye topper is so pretty. A great idea for another way to use the bullseye pattern. Loved the pictures of Hazel. She really does have a great life.
Oh boy!! I am all excited because l can read the comments again and send one if l would like. Just like you said Mary….all l have to do is get out of my email and go to my bookmarks and Voila!, comments!!!!! Thanks so much for the solution.
Hallo Mary, Hazel is a digger alright! Perhaps she was an archeologist in a previous life!! Just as well she is small enough to be fairly easy washable! Love farmer Tim’s corn. This year our corn is way behind because although there has been a lot of rain (wettest spring and early summer on record) there haven’t been many sunny days: some fields have had to be resown, as they were so badly flooded that the seed corn washed away. So the corn is about thigh height instead of head height, and in the resown fields about knee high, but on sunny days you can almost see it growing as you watch. There is more hot weather forecast (it has been very humid when warm!) so I think it will catch up soon, as we have very long days at this time of year. It loos like it is going to be a bumper crop of plums though (all the rain again!) so we will be making plum jam come august. I always love seeing pots of our own jam lined up on a shelf in the cellar. I didn’t make any rhubarb jam this year: we used it all in pies and crumbles.
Fiona – I still havent gotten around to making rhubarb jam and I’ve pulled up so much rhubarb that’s gone to waste.! Shame on me.
Keeper and Hazel are living their best lives😊. A lovely day for sure.
Keeper and Hazel are living their best lives😊
YAY!! So happy you’ve solved the Comments mystery!! Boy, Miss Hazel can really get into things! Ha!
It is beautiful today. I am 10 weeks post bilateral knees and rodemy trike 6.2 miles today. Patience! On days like this it is hard to decide what to do first. Too muddy to weed.
Mary – holy smokes! 6.2 miles! You go, Girl!
Our temps here in SW Ohio have been above normal as well, in the mid 90’s. We did finally get some much needed rain. I’ve not been walking my dog, Bentley. Just too hot! That Hazel is something else! It unfortunately makes more work for you having to bathe her so often. Clicking on the blog is working for me & there seems to be more ads to click on now, too. My dad raised pigs & they create quite the smell on a farm! But those little piglets are so cute! This has been the week for celebrating! My friend Ron celebrated his 91st birthday on 7/2. My friend is having another party at her lake house today for him. This is party #4 for him! I made his favorite cake for the occasion! German Chocolate. So good to see Rick out & about! Mary, your porch looks so inviting!
Alice, I agree about the pig smell. There was a distant neighbor member of our country church who raised pigs. Oh my, we could tell when he was in church! And he always sat behind us in church. My dad would say, “That’s the smell of money.”
Alice – you should have asked us to mail birthday cards to Ron!
Mary, it never even occurred to me to ask you all to send cards to him! He has loved every minute of his birthday celebrations! I do believe #4 topped it though. The owners of the lake house took everyone for a ride around the lake in their pontoon boat! Next week we will be going back to the lake to spend 10 days to dog sit while they are on vacation. Their dog & Bentley are best buddies!
Alice – oh, I’m sorry, too. 10 days of dog sitting- but sounds like the dogs will be having lots of fun.
I love the bullseye in the RWB
Love your porch! What a great place to have coffee, love Jerry Reed and Piglet, so cute!!!
Love reading your blog Mary and seeing what all the animals are getting into! Hazel is my fav!! Love that bullseye table quilt. I saw on another blog today that some people are too ashamed of America so they didn’t put out any decor for the 4th. The way I feel, if you’re that dissatisfied, then leave! America is still the greatest country on earth!! Hope you keep on doing this blog. So good for all of us!
Helen – I’d say like it or leave it!! I’m leaving all my patriotic decorating until I change to fall mid August – I think it’s my favorite decorating season!!
Love reading every one’s post. Please don’t delete me. I m just not as chatty or clever with replies. You all are so talented. Love photos and hearing rants about dirty dogs and too many plants and beautiful quilts. Thank you and God bless you for bringing us all together. I m Charlene Sexton old friend. I miss her and know you do too. I m her daughters s old school mate. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Nancy! I think if you just comment with one sentence maybe once a week you’ll still be active.
🦋 Hi, I’m glad to told us about Indiana playing today. I was able to record it on my TiVo to watch when I got home.
I love the Patriotic Bullseye.🇺🇸 I’ll have to check my patterns to see if I have it already. Was it in one of your books? That’s where I’m thinking I saw it.
Enjoy your day 😊
Debby from Wisconsin
Nancy – I think about Charlene every now and then – she was quite a gal, wasn’t she?
I love early mornings on my porch so I understand why you love yours, it’s quiet and cool. I’m having a brunch this morning with my family, my grandsons will be there, can’t wait. Then home to work on a quilt. Too hot in the afternoon to be outside. Hazel is so funny, I bet she keeps you in stitches. Have a great day
Oh I forgot to mention how cute that little piggy is, and the dirty face from eating gave me a laugh.
Love your porch, looks like the perfect place to have your morning caffeine and just listen to nature.
Hazel sure had an enjoyable day of digging! And a bath was a definite must.
We are still eating leftovers from our 4th dinner, I grilled a lot of food because the weather is getting hotter each day and I didn’t want to grill again for awhile.
Yesterday my daughter and I went to the strip to say farewell to the Mirage because it is closing the 17th. It will come down for a new build of Hard Rock Casino. At 35 years it is considered old and is being replaced, crazy.
Oh, Hazel! Too funny. So glad to know the reason behind why I wasn’t able to find the comment box. Yes, these beautiful days are treasures we all too often don’t realize until the weather is uncomfortable. My Dad always calls them “back pocket” days. Ones that he’d like to stick in a pocket to pull out when needed. Enjoy!
I like you dad’s saying….” a back pocket day.”
Obviously, I’m not a farm person. When you mentioned “a pile of bedding” I expected blankets and quilts!
Connie, I don’t comment very often but I love your blog about nothing so please don’t delete me! AND I love that bag you found at the thrift store! Good find! I think Hazel must like to get dirty. I had a little boy like that. Now he’s all grown up, but he still finds ways to get dirty! Farming, working on cars and other things. His wife and he raise silkies and some normal chickens and sell the eggs down in Florida north of Tallahassee. I enjoy seeing and reading about your chickens, too. I love that they have names! I’m a city girl so I know nothing about chickens, and my farm-raised husband never had names for any of his mom’s chickens–or, at least, none he’d say out loud!! Enjoy your porch time.
Chris – please know that I’m not offended, Connie and I have answered to each others names for 40 years but Connie doesn’t write this blog. This is me, Mary – Connie is quiet and doesn’t say much. My nickname was windy – haha! Thus, I write – Connie reads.
Mary,
I love your blog and the pictures of your view from your porch! It has been incredibly hot and dry in Alabama this year! The corn all dried up. We are in eastern Iowa this week with the grandsons. Fun but boy I don’t have enough energy to keep up with them! This afternoon we will be at the trampoline park which should use up some of the excess energy! Hope you had a great birthday!
Doris in Alabama
Doris – this is a great week to be in Iowa – low humidity and cooler temps! Alabama sounds pretty miserable now but next winter it’ll look good.
Hey! I’m able to comment. My husband and I both laughed and laughed at the pictures of Hazel and her antics! We have a white terrier and he also loves to be dirty! We don’t have a farm, but if we did…oh boy! Thanks for the laughs!
Jill – Hazel is in her glory when she can dig – JRT’s were bred to go into tunnels and such to scare varmint out.
That little piggies face is precious! Hugs,
I love the table topper bullseye quilt! Stunning!! (patriotic quilts are my favorite).
WOW Love the purse you found at the thrift store. Looks so soft!
Enjoy your Saturday. We’re off to a BBQ our our cousins’ house in Ankeny (a 2-hour drive for us). Should be a wonderful day)
Yes, thanks for letting us know how to find comments. I always look for your daily writings & love seeing what Hazel is up to & the rest of you menagerie & hearing what is happening in your neck of the woods.
We could use a few dry days here in Wis…our rivers are over their banks again. 😊
I am finally able to read and see comments because I resubscribed to the blog.
Hot hot hot in Vegas 3 digits and I am in Northern WI with cool mornings and 70-80 days but LOTS of rain. Cool here for July in Wisconsin.
The Hostas are blooming.
Rhoda – so happy to hear from you again!
The last two mornings have been beautiful in Iowa City. 60 degrees to start the day, rising to 75-80 degrees. Low humidity (which I LOVE) and a gentle breeze. We did lawn work yesterday, and I continue to work on an apple wall hanging that has some 1 inch squares in it. It is slower going than what I usually do. Oh well, it is good to try something new and I certainly had lots of reds in my stash. The critter pictures are fun. I currently have a robin with two babies in the nest that a different robin occupied earlier this spring. I didn’t realize robins would lay eggs in a used nest. The babies are getting big enough to try to fly, I think.
Vicki – so how do you know it’s a different Robin? Don’t they all look alike? Maybe the unused nest was hers earlier this spring?
I put out mealwoems as we had a baby Robin that kept visiting and the mother Robin fed them to her baby! And now the house wrenscare couing to the little dish and feeding their chicks in the birdhouse! I have not seen robins eat at a feeder, they are always hunting for worms on the ground!
Mealworms..sorry!
It’s a good thing Hazel is small, makes it easier to give her all those baths. She must have really reeked after that dig in the bedding (manure) pile! The Sheriff is the perfect name for her. I loved Piglet’s messy face and Greta sitting in that hole like a gopher. The ads track a little too close–your post with the fabulous bag deal is full of ads for purses that look the same. 🙄
Holly – is that the way ads work? If I post something it triggers ads in that category? I have no idea!
Mary, you’ll need to mention some really strange thing in a post, and then see what the ads do. I remember that when you’ve mentioned your twined rugs, I’d see lots of ads for carpets.
Yes, that must be how it works with the ads! I’ve gotten all kinds of ads for Coach purses! Not unusual to see 5-6 ads just for Coach!
Don’t you just love a great thrift store find.
One of our kitties would get into things and the other would watch. Not sure which one was smarter.
Very hot and dry here, but the pool water is great.
Thanks for all you do Mary.
Yes! Yes! The going to the blog worked and I was able to X out of the ads too so I could help you out. Hazel sure keeps you on your toes. Such a little character!
Wish you could send us some rain here in the NE panhandle, very dry here and the grasshoppers are eating anything that doesn’t move. Happy happy pooches!!! Have a great day, Carol L
Hi Mary!
I enjoy your blog so much as you “are living the dream”! You and I share a love of animals (especially dogs) and I’m living through you!!! I’m curious as to what Hazel thought might be in the pile of bedding? A rat? Has she found any this year? I hope she loves her bath since she needs them often! I love seeing pictures of your property, animals and reader photos. I’m also glad you started the card ministry. Such an easy way to let someone know they are being thought about. Keep up the great work you do and hugs to all the dogs!
Oh what a beautiful day, indeed!! Now to go mow…….:( I want to get it done so I can watch the game at noon too. Love the patriotic bullseye…putting in on my list of To dos. Hazel, Hazel, Hazel…..never a dull moment.
Another hot and steamy day in SW Ohio today. It’s what we call “air you can wear”!
I have never heard this, but it is certainly apt. I had to laugh.
Love the piglet! My husband grew up on a farm, where his dad raised pigs and cows. On one of our visits, I got to sit up in the evening with his dad and help the sow as she gave birth to her piglets. He would pull the piglets out from under the sow after they were born so they wouldn’t be squished. Lots of beautiful patriotic quilts this past week that I have enjoyed so much.
Laurie, my dad was a dairy man but when pig prices went up, he thought he should raise igs also. What happened though was when they were furrowing, no one would get up at night to check on them ( and I still had 3 3 brothers home at the time). I saved many piglets from a squishy death.
I love the Patriotic Bullseye table topper! What a great idea
Hi Mary and all the Wonderful blog readers! It’s going to be another scorcher today in Tucson! By now I should be used to this weather, but it’s so dang hot🥵. Yesterday it was 108 and I hung sheets on our porch clothesline – they were totally bone dry in about 15 min – wow, that’s hot. So it’s a good time to stay inside now and sew quilt blocks, read, knit or cross stitch – take my choice. Stay cool everyone – for me this is a full-time job😉 – Barb in Tucson
I don’t know how you sew and watch two games at once. I guess that is what makes you a pro and me an amateur.
Oh my, quite the Hazel! Never a dull moment. The Tim’s corn is REALLY growing. 4th of July knee deep !! it has really passed that point. When I click on my email , in the upper right hand corner it says, “Read in Blog” Click on it and I am set. It works good. Rick looks like he is getting better and is enjoying being out
side. At least no rain yesterday and Thursday for 4th of July. Thank you for everything. Enjoy it all. Have
a good week end everyone.
Good morning, Mary! I finally found the comments! Your directions worked perfectly! I love your set up for watching 2 games at once. I love hearing about Hazel’s adventures. She sure is full of vim and vigor! She’s living her life to the fullest!
I absolutely love Hazel and her shenanigans! That girl keeps you on your toes for sure! Glad you got this Word Press game figured out! And I am like you with the WNBA, Don’t miss a game with the Fever & CC.. but am now intrigued with most of the other WNBA games as well! Go Fever!
It a beautiful day here too. Picked raspberries and will freeze them. Made rhubarb muffins and rhubarb cherry dessert. Now to tackle the weeds in my garden even if it is still too wet. Maybe I will look as dirty as Hazel! LOL
The fireworks were last night. We were able to see them from our deck.
Hopefully the flood waters are receding. Prayers go out to those who have the terrible mess to clean up.
Enjoy the day because more rain is forecast for the coming days—ugh!
Hazel is definitely a corker! Keeper, not to miss out, supervising the whole proceedings. Piglet – another animal to watch grow. 🙂 It’s nice to see Rick out enjoying the weather, too! Mary, the view from your porch is so relaxing on a summer day. Could Iowa send Arizona some of that rain? (No, I know the weather hits the west coast first heading east across the country.) 118 degrees here yesterday in the metro area according to the official site at the airport. I don’t have a thermometer outside, but, do have a rain gauge, and it’s bone dry. Thank goodness for air conditioning! Thanks for all the pictures, Mary.
Jan
Yay!!! Being able to comment is working for me again 😁. I’m even seeing ads to click, where I’ve not see any for quite some time! We’re in Eldora at Pine Lake camping for this long 4th of July holiday. Great temperatures, sunny, and no rain! Garage sales days in Iowa Falls so we spent the morning up there – 37 advertised garage sales in town! I think I’m good for awhile 😆. Relaxing back at the campground until it’s time to grill the pork loin on the Blackstone. Hoping everyone had a fun filled holiday and weekend, and you were able to enjoy these nice temperatures!
I Love the photo of the little pig! What a cutie and he IS a sloppy little piggy. Hazel is fun and funny today too. Keeper is trying to appear innocent. lol
We are having highly unusual heat here. I need to get out early to water before I melt in the heat.
Have a great day everyone!
Sue – yes, I’ve never thought of Oregon being hot.
Our heatwave is expected to last through part of next week. Highs today could reach 114. Ugh!
I read your blog every day. When I open my iPad it’s the first thing I go to. Love Hazel…she is really something. Enjoy all your ramblings about nothing and the pictures.
Love “Hazel the Handful”, she is something else. Would certainly miss your blog and did as you said, thus the comment. Georgia is HOT now, humidity at 74%, poured rain last night and it is a steam bath outside. Summertime in the south.
Carolyn – I always love hearing about weather around the country and I know others do, too. Thanks!
That little piglet is such a cutie. Enjoy your second coffee and relax with the beautiful view.
I LOVE those old fashioned musicals – Oklahoma! Oh Hazel! “Digger” would have been a more appropriate name! lol Her stories are fun, but I guess sometimes it means more work for you. We have our granddog, Pearl, staying with us. She chased a ground hog this morning, but came back when called. The heat is oppressive here in our part of PA so we are embracing the AC. We’re in a drought situation so have been deep watering our newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials. This week the guys came to fill a hole lift from a 15′ X 30′ pool. They added a nice layer of topsoil so I was excited about planting more perennials and transferring my tomato plants from planter boxes to the ground. Wouldn’t you know, we had a torrential downpour that lasted over an hour; although it was welcomed, it washed away some of the topsoil. Sometimes, you just can’t win.. We went for straw bales to cover the sunflower and other perennial seeds- I hope it prevent more soil erosion. Enjoy your porch! xxoo
Ann – you’re right – sometimes all your efforts are in vain. Hang in there.
This is a great post, Mary! That Hazel makes everyone laugh, but keeping her clean is a real chore, I’m sure! I love the Patriotic Bulls-eye table topper, very pretty. Debbie in SC, I love the description of your white cat – can just picture her holding out her legs to get to all her bits and bobs… I love this blog! Thanks, Mary! Jan in MA
Jan – I, too, love this blog especially when readers participate. My own sister doesn’t even bother to read the comments! They’re the best part!!
Everyone. Geez hands faster than brain!
Comments working fine. Happy Saturday to eve.
Enjoy your writings everyday. The only animals on my farm are the barn cats and pesky rabbits that mess up my flowers. Love the photos of your yard and flowers, and the reader quilts. I visited your shop a couple times and made a few of your patterns. Kind of in a quilting shutdown right now though.
Enjoy your beautiful day. Been getting too much rain herein southwest Minnesota.
Knee high by the 4th of July is what I’ve always remembered as far as corn growth. WOW! Tim’s is far past that this year!! Was it just a perfect amount of rain and sunshine or something else that made it grow so tall??
My zucchini plant has been producing well already so I’ve been enjoying zucchini zoodles as well as zucchini frites. I’m going to go to the grocery this morning for ground chicken and tonight will enjoy chicken and zucchini fritters. I haven’t made any zucchini bread yet either!
My sewing lately has mostly been repairs for other people. Time to get back to the fun stuff!!
Happy weekend all!!
Diane – it s been perfect conditions for growing corn – rain at just the right time and now plenty of sunshine. I can’t believe you agree to do repairs for people! Not me – I hate it and hardly do my own.
Your dogs certainly live the best life! They have so much fun.
It is hot and steamy here in eastern PA. We have a wedding to go to this afternoon. Thank goodness it is not outside. I enjoyed seeing the patriotic bullseye quilt on the table. I recently came across my bullseye blocks after searching for them for the last couple years. They are next on my list to finish up. I did them in all batiks, which I am not sure was a good choice, but we will see how it turns out. Enjoy your porch, Mary!
Sue – this is what’s going to happen with your batiks – when you wash your quilt to get the edges to fray, they simply won’t. Batiks don’t ravel so it’s either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the look you want in the end.
Oh, that’s interesting about the batik fabric not fraying…hmm. I have a few in the one I’ve been working on. Thanks for the heads up! Forgot to mention the piglet, she is just adorable! Jan in MA
I grew up on a farm in Indiana but have lived in FL for over 30 years. I can just smell Farmer Tim’s corn field and I miss the quietness of the country. I think I will never have a terrier. Oh Hazel. Have a great day.
It is a beautiful day here in my part of PA. Hope it stays for awhile. Love that song. Good thing because I will be humming it all day.
Hazel is too funny! I think it may be in white cats and dogs nature to not want to stay white. I had a white Maltese that if he had a chance, he would find and roll in chicken poop! I used to have a white in door cat that loved to take baths but every chance, she would get out of the house and roll in the red clay. She was the funniest thing about being bathed-she would stretch and hold her legs up and out so you could get everywhere. Everyone said they had never heard of giving cats baths but I started when she was a little kitten because she was filthy when I got her.
We finally got a little shower here yesterday afternoon-it hadn’t rained in over a month and has been so dry. I was having to water all the outside plants to keep them from dying and I have a couple of bushes that died any way.

Debbie – and I forgot to say I paid only $3.00 for that fabulous bag!!!
I love that Hazel dug out the tire ring and Keeper is just standing there watching, LOL! We have a “watcher” in our group too…we call him the professor, always watching and thinking just like a professor 🙂 Hope you have a great day!
Vanessa – we call Hazel The Sheriff because she has to settle every argument and wants to boss everybody around!
Hazel is always on an adventure. Love it. Thanks for the great blog. It’s like sitting down with a good friend.
Love the updates on crazy Hazel and the cats. Oh and also the chickens and goats 😊😊
I closed a dozen ads on the blog.. They never show in the email. Glad the issue is fixed. Hazel is so entertaining.
Belated birthday greetings on your trombone year.
Donna – being from the River City area, I love the phrase “trombone year”! I’ve never heard it before.
I had to look that saying ! Good thing, I get it!
Hazel provides lots of adventure and entertainment around your farm. I wonder what she is thinking when enjoying her escapades. Ha!
Company coming this week for the big Sisters Quilt classes and show. I am taking a Kawandi quilt class. Should be exciting to learn a new technique.
Love the photos from the farm and reader pics. Loved that picture of your porch looking at Tim’s field. A wonderful place to sit and enjoy your “ice tea” too. 😄

Boy your puppies were having fun. What an excuse for a cooling bath.
Oh Hazel! What a filthy little dog. I love the dirt all the way up her legs. She sure enjoys the “dig”
It’s a bit of a slow day here today. We went to a concert here in town last night. I love the old school tribute bands! It was a fun night. I might get a little sewing time in later.
Have a good day everyone! And yes, I was singing along with you. 😁❤️
I got it to work so I can comment now! Love reading your blog.
It is a beautiful morning in Dallas after a rain storm yesterday dropped the temperature from the 90’s to the 70’s last night!
Always the same story with Hazel: Dirty face, huge smile!
Love the bullseye table topper
It’s a quiet day lakeside, but rain and lightning. Waiting patiently to go out on water tubing with grandkids. Who knew that the forth would be so crappy!!
