Today is Becky’s birthday and we met for pizza – I am too full! Woke up to rain again this morning – not heavy but still measureable – the geese love it but what about the rest of us?
I picked up a pail and a half of walnuts this afternoon – Mollie came for a bit – we went on several rides and snooped around the yard – not so very exciting but I’ll bet Molly liked it.
This question is for those of you who leave a comment- can you comment from the email you receive or do you have to click on “Reader” at the top of the page? Sherry is having problems with this and my page doesn’t look like your page so I can’t help her much. Can anyone help? And Sherry I hope you’ll watch the comments for the info.
Robbie and her daughter got to go to the game last night. She sent me these – wow, a game would be fun!

From the farm today:

……………………….
At the optometrist’s office:
If you don’t see what you’re looking for, you’ve come to the right place.

Happy Birthday to Becky. It was nice you could celebrate with her.
Having a sister is such a blessing. My sister was born when I was 13; so for years, she was someone I took care of. Now that she is a retired teacher, we have more time to spend together, and it is wonderful.!
Hi Mary,
I live in Wauwatosa, Wi- you might have seen it on the news yesterday. We got 14.7 inches of rain in 6 hours Saturday night. The river overflowed, roads were impassable, one of the high school football field washed away. Lots of damage to businesses and homes here and in several cities and towns near us. My house is ok, so is my daughters. The state fair is not far from here, cars were left underwater because no one could get out – it hit so fast. No injuries- the first responders were amazing. Please say some prayers for my town and our people. It’s going to be a tough recovery. Thank you.
To Mary in Wauwatosa, WI
My sympathy goes out to all of you in the flooded areas. Has the water gone down yet? We here in Rapid City know exactly what everybody is going thru. Hopefully nobody was hurt or killed. You will be totally amazed and grateful to everybody that will come to help you recover. I know it doesn’t look like that, but just wait. There are a lot of people who know exactly what to do, where to start and go from there. It probably looks hopeless now and it doesn’t get better overnight. It does take time. All of our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Betty in Rapid City
Elizabeth – we did watch in horror what happened in Wisconsin – it’s hard to believe that much rain in such a short time – and the pictures of the fair!!! Good heavens! I’m glad you and your daughter’s homes are ok – so much damage to fix and it won’t happen overnight, like Betty said. Fire leaves less to clean up, I think. Flood water leaves everything in a moldy mess to clean up – soggy, smelly, slimy – ugh. Imagine your car being underwater at the fairgrounds. I can’t. Please keep us posted now and then about the cleanup.
I have to click on “Read on Blog” to see comments & to make a comment. I laughed at your comment to Martha about mowing the lawn. When I was in Jr. High school, my Dad broke his ankle & suddenly it was my job to mow. We had a huge front yard, and all we had was a push mower. (My younger sister & Mother both had allergies, they claimed to also be allergic to grass) Even after his ankle healed, somehow I still had the job of mowing. When I moved away to go to college, he bought a riding mower!!!
My email is gmail. I don’t know if that makes a difference for people what type of email you have?? I click read on the blog.
I read on my email then scroll back to the top and click Read on blog. I have both Read on blog and Reader at the right corner of the blog. If I click on Reader it takes to the screen where I have to sign in on Apple or google. If I click on Read on blog it takes me right to your blog. Hope this helps.
It’s been hot here in Michigan for days. We could really use a rain. ☔️
Jo – you’ve given me the directions with the options – maybe nobody else has the options?
Happy Birthday to Becky, glad you were able to have pizza together.
Great crowd at the WNBA game. They are still drawing great crowds.
Nice Mary that you were able to repurpose the nesting hen house again.
We had 3 inches of rain Sunday morning. Still pretty wet this morning.
Decided to finish a wallhanging yesterday. Binding sewn on and hand sewed to the back. Will send a picture to Mary.
Today I sandwiched another top and pined. Will try to get that quilted this week.
I don’t see read on blog on my email. I click on the date, read the post, then comments. Then at the bottom is leave a reply. Simple. Hope everyone is enjoing some cooler weather as we are. Yep, rain has been a little too plentiful for most of us. Take care everyone!
Helen – that’s the way it used to be and suddenly some readers have had that changed without their knowledge and they’ve had to figure it out. This makes it so hard for me to help Sherry.
Like everyone else- I open the email, click on ‘Read the Blog’, and it opens up to the blog. Scroll down to comment. Hope you’re done with wind and rain for awhile!
P.S. My ads come from Criteo or Goog;le.
Happy Belated Birthday to Becky! Like many, once I first open up the email I use the same method as Peggy S. does. Good grief, Teresa, nothing like a lot going on right now. I hope everything works out in the move and the timeliness of your son’s surgery is soon.
Heat wave continues, back to sewing!
Jan
Thank you Janet. Is that why there is a saying, when it rains it pours. Some things are out of our control. Our son is waiting for his MRI. The orthopaedic doctor is hoping it will be this week and then a decision will be made about surgery. Apparently there could be an instance where surgery isn’t needed but they don’t know till the MRI is done. We have had a very warm summer and are in a heat wave right now. Temps much higher than seasonal, it was 92F yesterday typically our temps would be 77F. Lots of watering needed for the garden, thank goodness for air conditioning. Not complaining but sure looking forward to Friday after noon. The movers arriving Thursday and then we just have to clean, I’ve cleaned all kitchen cupboards and closets in the house as we’ve emptied them so just bathroom, vacuum and wash floors. We have till noon Friday to be done.
To read and make comments I always clicked “Read on Blog.” But, I learned something new today from reading the comments. I can get to the blog by also clicking on the date after the email opens. I’m glad you and Becky could celebrate her birthday together. Is she younger or older than you, Mary? (I’m sure that you’ve mentioned it before but I can’t recall- haha- old age!)
I’ll be heading home to WY on Saturday. My hubby will be glad I’m back. 6 weeks batching it! ND has had so much rain. This past week it rained everyday at least once and sometimes 3 times. Many rain storms have been drenchers. Someone must have a lot of chickens to need all of those nest boxes. The comment about using walnuts to stain the wood for basket weaving was interesting. I’m hoping everyone has a good week.
Martha – Becky is 5 years younger and I always tease her by saying the youngest got by with everything. Me, the oldest – not so much. I was expected to be in everything and have the most chores. I don’t think Becky ever mowed lawn unless it was when I went to college and Dad finally bought a riding lawnmower. What does that tell you? 😏
Ditto here – click read on blog, then scroll down to comments.
Please send rain! Our ground is soooo dry it’s cracking and our trees are turning brown – nor because of fall but because of lack of rain. Isn’t it crazy how flooding one area and drought in another!
Kelli – we had drought the past couple years – rain early in the spring and then nothing. This is not common for us. Some of my trees and bushes have not come back healthy. My favorite PeeGee hydrangea tree barely has leaves this year. I’ll bet by next spring it will be dead.
Happy birthday Becky!
I have to click ‘read on blog’ to get to the comments and ads.
Please send some rain our way. We could really use it.
I also have to Click On Blog to make and read comments. I get irritated with myself when I forget and read it from the email. Then, to comment or to read, I have to scroll all the way back up, click read on blog and then scroll down again.
I was wondering what that big wood thing was and now I know. Pays to remember to Read on Blog. LOL
Sue Smith – too bad I can’t get all subscribers to follow these rules. 🙁
I can read on my email but have to also go to Read on Blog to leave a comment. Very pretty flowers. The
clouds are pretty. At times we can see something created by the clouds .when we sit and eat dinner and supper by the window. ( an animal, etc.) Have a good day. Happy birthday, Becky.
I am the same as many, to see comments, ads or to comment I click “read on blog”.
Happy birthday to Becky and pizza is my favourite food so yummy.
We have three days to finish any last minute packing. Movers arrive Thursday morning. We will clean after they leave and need to be out by noon Friday. Luckily starting Wednesday we are staying next door.
Can’t believe we are just about done. I may have to travel to Elko, Nevada in a few weeks. Our oldest son was in a Spartan “beast” race, it’s a half marathon with 30 obstacles and at the last obstacle he tore his bi-cep. He’s hoping to find out today when his surgery will be. They may need help for a bit. Luckily we are not moving in to the new place till Sept 12th so I have time. The only down side is it’s about a 15hr drive to Elko. We are praying the surgery is soon. Recovery is 7 weeks to up to 6 months.
I click “read on blog”. Hope Becky had a great Birthday!
Have to go through the reader to make a comment. Do you sell your walnuts to stain factory? A friend when she was alive had loads of walnuts like she sold them to a stain factory in Marysville Ky. I know basket makers takes the hauls if had the meat in put water for stain for baskets and what ever. In south west Ohio. Very hot(94) and humid. No ran till Tuesday night or Wednesday supposively!
I can remember going home to attend a wedding . My mother’s hands were stained black from working with the walnuts. She asked what could she do with her hands to which I answered ‘wear gloves.’ They worked. Nobody cared anyway. Some solutions are so easy??
Such is life. Betty in Rapid City
Betty, when I work outside and my hands get stained I put some bleach in the water and the grass stains come out. I do this any time my hands get stained.
I read this on my iPhone. Can’t see the comment box until I clicked on “read on blog” that also makes the ads come up.
Happy Birthday to Becky. Lucky you have your sister close!!
Both of my sisters moved to Colorado back in the 70’s. Wish they lived closer.
Today I go to the Retina Specialist for a shot probably. I’m just glad the office is in my hometown as I need help getting there.
I click Reader on Blog to read and comment or click the ads. Super busy with all the harvest going on. Summer is coming to an end with tomatoes, peaches, zucchini all coming in at once. Happy birthday to Becky. Did sew for 30 minutes today, so that was good. Have a great week
Happy birthday to Becky!
I also click on the title to get to the comments. I hope everyone’s comments help. Every device looks different.
Sheryl – your instructions sound different than the others. You click on the title?
Yes. I click on the title and it opens in the internet. The email also has the link “Read on blog” but I click the title. I just now tried to click “Read on blog” and it also opened in the internet.
I sent you an email about the pattern I ordered. The thirty stars for thirty years. I did as instructed and you sent my envelope back with nothing in it. I don’t know if somebody stole it before they got to you or if you forgot to put my pattern in the envelope . Would appreciate a reply.
Donette – I will certainly replace your pattern! Goodness, what happened? I’ll need your address again. I never did get an email from you however – are you sure it went to the correct email address? Not to worry, you can text me your address if you’d like:
Text to 641-512 -5188. I’ll look at my order desk and see if there are any clues as to why you got your envelope back –
I have searched all orders and all emails since July 1 and can’t find anything from you. Did you include a SASE? A check or cash? If you didn’t that’s probably the reason you got it returned.
I do exactly as Peggy S does to read & comment. The comment box doesn’t appear until I click at the top. Newest comments appear first. Happy birthday to Becky! Your pizza sounds really good! Here in SW Ohio we had two big events going on. A huge Country show at one of the parks with so much traffic it wasn’t funny! I found it interesting people along the route had signs in their yards for parking “$20”! I guess that’s one way to make a little cash! And all the restaurants in the area were packed! We also have the Tennis Tournament going on at this time. So we are very cautious of drivers who switch lanes on a whim! And then of course we have Kings Island amusement park. Yep, traffic has been a nightmare! Except for church & only driving for the essential needs, we stay home during these busy times…and we eat at home! I’ve been able to get in a lot of sewing time & that always makes me happy!
Good morning,
I click on Read Blog to see everything. Enjoy your day
Debby from SE Wisconsin
I have to click “read the blog” to read and respond to the comments.
Glad Molly enjoyed her afternoon. I love the fact that my puppies can run our farm and explore as they wish, every dog should have the space to run. My son and daughter-in-law bring their three tiny dogs over and they have a ball running around like a bunch of little bunnies.
Blessings everyone, stay cool!
Same here, I can read on email but not comment. Click on blog open on Safari to comment and to close ads. On email I don’t see the ads so I can’t click on them to close
Happy birthday Becky!
Happy birthday, Becky!
I hope all the comments helps Sherry be able to get back on board this delightful blog. It’s frustrating to have things change that you didn’t change.
I get the blog through email and then I click on the title and, I’m able to read and reply to comments.
Happy birthday to Becky!
This works for me also.
Same for me. There are no ads on the email, but they are there when I click on the title or Read on the Blog. I usually just click on the title. I always click on all the ads every time I read. I go back several times during the day to see if new comments have been added, and then I click on the ads each time I do that. I do like that the newest comments are at the top.
I can comment from the email or the blog. But, some of my other apps on my ‘puter now aren’t working correctly!!! I’m thinking either Microsoft or Google or both did some updates that were screwups.
Linda – I think you’re the reader who always knows the most technology, right? If I’m wrong I won’t ask you to do this but will you talk to Sherry via email? Let me know in a return comment or email
I read the blog in my email but there is no comment box. I click on the title of your blog and it takes me to the internet where I read it again and admire all the wonderful pictures and then all the comments follow that I read. The comment box is at the very end where I can add my 2 cents. Ha.
I click on read on blog and comment at the end. It is also where the ads are throuhout conversation too. Usally 8-10 ads.
What a packed house at the game. Looks like fun.
I also have to click on read the blog.
I have to mash read at the top of the blog in order to comment.
I used to be able to read the comments on the email but now I have to click on “read on blog”. Not sure what happened but it changed from one day to the next.
Ditto like others. Read on blog, scroll to bottom to add comment.
Like others, I have to click read on blog. Have a great day.
Hi Mary, l too click on read on blog to be able to comment, trouble is some times l forget what l want to say by the time l finish reading other people’s comments! Happy birthday Becky 🎂! Glad you sold your nesting box ! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
I can use any of those methods to comment on the blog. I usually just click on the title.
Hmmm … I’m wondering what ‘this’ could be (that went to its new home today). Perhaps some kind of nesting box? Curious minds want to know, lol!
Candy – yes, a nesting box that used to live in the quilt shop with wool in it. I’m glad it’s gone so now I can park my cart under that roof to keep it dry. It’s had a good life – now it’s going to house hens and eggs again as it was intended.
Mary, Isn’t it amazing just how many people have absolutely idea of the things we used to have on the farms? Makes me feel kind of old. I used to take a stick with to hold the hen’s neck away from my hands as she would peck me…..
Betty in Rapid City-
Betty – Rick and I marvel all the time that the young adults even and of course the kids have no clue about farm life. And I just LIVE in the country -I dont farm but I remember each season and what was going on. It was a good life but I was trained to work hard.
When I get the email, I can read the post, but if I want to read comments or post one, I have to click on the date at the top of the message. Once here, I have to click on (# of) replies at the TOP of the post. Replies are latest first.
From today’s email, I clicked on Sunday, 8-10-25, which brought me here. I can click on reply and leave a comment. I do not click on Reader, I actually never have.
I have to go to blog also
I have to click on “read on blog” at the very top of Mary’s blog in order to read or write in the comment section. I usually read through the daily blog first & then scroll back to the beginning. Click on the read on blog & then scroll to the bottom. Works every time.
Me too Peggy
The reply on blog on my site is at the very bottom. I get notification via email that Country Threads has sent a notification. The comments are newest to oldest.
I have to click on Read on Blog, then I can close ads and comment. Happy Birthday to Becky!
I have to click Read on Blog! Happy Birthday to Becky! 🎂🎈🎉 Hugs,
In my email to comment, I click on the date you’ve posted i.e. Sunday, 8-10-25, and it takes me straight to the blog. I can scroll down until I find the Leave a Reply section. Pretty easy for me.
You’re always so busy on your farm, Mary. I enjoy seeing your pictures you post of it and all your plants. I love my plants and flowers, too but I certainly don’t hold a candle to yours. Always inspiring to see your pretty flowers and plants and the farm.
Mary Beth – I love my houseplants!
They’re almost like pets! Ha!
Hi
This is Sherry. Thank you all for my cards!!
Sherry! You’re here! Now join in the conversation and tell the readers a bit about yourself – your interests, hobbies, family etc
I also can only comment via “Read on Blog”
I click Read on Blog, otherwise I can’t comment or click the ads. I had the some of the grands this weekend, they took home a couple chicken waterers I had. I have 1 barn cat who is friendly, the littlest boy carried him around a lot. He was relieved to see him go
