I promise to take it easy – I want this whole thing over with and settled – no more distended belly, pain in gut or surgery! I will stick to my church schedule this Sunday however. Margaret is laid up and Sunday is my goal to play for church.
Here are some great reader photos:

It’s a good thing I moved houseplants in last weekend because I sure couldn’t do it now! My geraniums are still hanging on the railing but it’s going to be warm and sunny through the weekend. I do have several large plants that will move into the quilt shop.

It was so nice of Hazel to take nap with you, and you are such a good mom taking your bored fur babies to the hayfield to play.
Just having anesthesia wipes me out for several days; it just takes time.
Your clean windows and plants look beautiful. That was a good job done before your surgery.
Take Care, 🥰
Mary, I’m so glad you made it through surgery ok, and that you’re home. I hope your recovery will be quick, and in the meantime get plenty of rest. Rick will do as much as he can, and the rest will be waiting for you when you’re able.
All the pictures on the blog today were so beautiful, quilts, flowers, mountain lakes and that gorgeous butterfly.
The best news: surgery is over and Mary is in recovery. Great post of so many things. Keeper looks very contented in the porch green house. I would, too, as it’s so inviting. Thanks for the book title. So many books, too little time.

Hi Mary, so glad to hear things went well with your surgery. Recovery is a slow process. Hang in there! All the photo’s today were wonderful. Always good to see Hazel.
Your Hoya plant is blooming! If i remember correctly they have a sweet smell and can be rather sticky. Love the pink color. So many nice quilts today. Enjoy the great view from your porch and rest, give yourself time to heal. Your porch is so inviting. I managed to get a quilt to the long armer yesterday, they are getting them done in 2 weeks, fast by my calendar.
Good to hear you are feeling pretty well, Mary. Surgery is never fun, but having it over will be so nice for you. We have seen the Broadway play “Come from Away” twice and always love it. It is based on the book WHEN THE WORLD CAME TO TOWN which we also loved. When Come From Away was in Columbus, OH, everyone in the theater cheered when they mentioned the Bonobo that was in one of the planes in Gander. She gave birth to a baby at the Columbus Zoo in 2003 and they named him Gander:) I think everyone remembers where they were on 9/11.
Take care of yourself, Mary.
Diane – and I want to wish you a belated birthday! I do remember where I was and as I looked at the clock, at 8:45 Central, Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson were announcing that another plane hit the building. A horrible time. Is Gander still living?
I thought so, but just checked. Yes, Gander is still alive and just became a first time father😀. He is 22. We have seen him and he is big and beautiful. Thanks for the bday wishes. I have not celebrated officially with all family ( Sunday 9/13) and friends (9/26) so i am still 74 yrs-😹😹😹. That’s a rule I made up!! Love the photos of quilts and flowers.
Diane – what a fantastic children’s book about Gander would be!!!!!
Mary, Your house is so pretty. Rest is in order for you.
I just put “The day the world came to town” on my audio list. Thank you for the recommendation.
Your porch turned plant room is beautiful. Enjoy the plants while you’re recovering.
What glorious pics! Thank you, what a welcoming sight your sun porch is at night!
Lovely pictures today. And your plant room looks great. I noticed right away that your plants look clean, to go with your clean windows. Nice that work was all done before surgery. Get lots of rest before the next major job occurs, and remember, there are others to help. Pray you are back in action soon. I see the orthopedic doctor next week about my shoulder. PT is not helping.
The Day the world came to town is an excellent book! And I’m thinking it was made into a movie as well. What a nice quilt show & your house looks so pretty, Mary! We just returned from a 911 program that is presented each year in our community. Very well done, just wish more would show up for it! Hope you are still doing well, Mary & taking it easy. Just remember that Rick probably won’t do things quite like you would…but it’ll be okay!
I think “The Day the World Came To Town” is a very successful Broadway play. I’ve seen parts of it on TV and would love to see it, but I’d probably cry all the way through it. It was amazing how the town had prepared for a huge emergency and were already to get it going. And all the travelers came together.

Alice – I read this to Rick and he said “Exactly right!”
As in quilting … “done is better than perfect”! Go, Rick … relax, Mary! Wishing you both a good recovery! I hope you feel better every day, Mary!
Praying for your recovery! Love the quilt parade!
Thankful that you are having a smooth recovery so far. The blog today was great. The quilts really lovely. Especially that pumpkin quilt! Love it.
Today is 9/11, a day for us all to pause and say a prayer. The book I’m reading (for the second time) is “The Day the World Came to Town”. It is about 9/11, but it’s how the town of Gander Newfoundland was impacted and welcomed lots of airplanes having to land because they couldn’t get into American airspace. It is really uplifting and tells us there really are a lot of great people.
Other than that, I’m happy to say my new computer is up and running after days of being without because the old relic gave up the ship. It’s nice to be back in the world.
Mary, it sounds like your surgery is a great success. Have a great day everyone.
Thanks for the book recommendation – it sounds very interesting!
Beautiful photographs and a quilt show to boot!! Lovely work, ladies. That 9/11 memorial is special, too.
I’m happy to hear you are going to take it easy. You certainly don’t want to reverse the results of your surgery. I did something fun yesterday. I made hamburger buns with a recipe from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe blog and then baked my hamburger patties in the oven for something new to try. I’m glad I surprised my granddaughter with a yummy dinner. Simple things at home.
Hi Mary,
Glad to hear you will try to take it easy and let Rick do the heavy lifting this week. I had her is surgery 20 years ago and it took me a full month to be able to pick heavy things up again.
Enjoy the porch today!
So glad you are home and feeling better.
Your post is beautiful, as usual, and your indoor garden is beautiful, too, under the new grow lights.
Take it easy and get all recuperated fast.
Mary,
Hope you make a speedy and full recovery…wishing you well.
Please take it easy. I know for those of us that are constantly doing something, “taking it easy” is like pulling teeth 🙂 But we love you
Seeing many happy view vantage points especially from out on the patio is great time to spend in recovery. Hope the weather holds for a good amount of time for your comfort.
Mary I know it’s not in your DNA to take it easy, but wishing you well. Your windows looks so nice. When you show your plants by windows all I can see are the shiny clean windows.
What a nice quilt show today. I’m looking forward to starting a new project. Helping my daughter with a garage sale this week. Lots of work, but we have such fun. Sometimes I take home lots of her things, but I’m behaving this time. What we don’t sell we give away or donate to Goodwill. Mary your porch with all the plants looks like a tropical retreat.
The new grow lights AND the clean windows! Beautiful. I know you are glad your surgery is over. The best part. And each day you will feel so better. Luckily sewing the small pieces of fabric together in the blocks is on the list of things you can do. Life is good. Get well quick, just don’t get too much in a hurry. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
How were the nurses during this visit? Hope they were nice.
Take care. Betty in Rapid City.
Betty – yes, this time the nurses were great but when I got to my room I feel like I probably had a chip on my shoulder. Things nurses don’t think about and there didn’t seem to be any aides: moving my chair so close to the wall that the recliner won’t work, leaving my water mug on the opposite side of the bed tray and I couldn’t get to it, closing the door all the time – claustrophobic!!!! When they brought me to this room it was the same layout as my room last fall and I immediately hated it. And after that is all said, I’m sooo happy to be home!
All the photos are wonderful. I do like it when we get to see so many different quilts. It’s always so inspiring. I’ve been thinking about you a lot, glad the surgery is over and you can be on the mend. Here’s hoping to a very speedy recovery.
I love all the photos. They are so beautiful. My goal is to make a heart quilt like that one. I have so many fabrics that have hearts, so I want to make hearts with hearts. That last photo with all the lights from the sun room and Hazel looking wistful (for some trouble to get into?) could be labeled “Home Sweet Home”!
Thinking of you and prayers for a speedy recovery! This , too, shall pass! I will get with you soon and can help with moving the rest of your plants.
Love all the photos – quilts, hoyas and other plants, and flags… oh, my!!!
Wishing you a quick and complete recovery!
Loved the quilts and plants; however the “Simple Times” variations quilt thrill me beyond belief! It’s a classic timeless quilt. I might need to make another one!😉🥰Thsjks for sharing! I’m sooo lo tech….. not sure my comments end up
In the right place! Hugs to all!
Loved making your Simple Times pattern…so glad I had ordered it from you before your closing of the shop! It was a fun project, and was happy to see the “keep the quilting simple” recommendation!
Nancy – just a correction – Simple Times is from Little Quilts not Country Threads so you couldn’t have gotten it from us. I’m just glad you have it and made it because as Mary Ellen said, “It’s a classic!”
I was replying to Mary Ellen regarding purchase of the pattern. Know it is a Little Quilts project…had to search my entire collections but finally found it, not with her book I have!
Mary Ellen – yes, we got your comments! I have never taken m quilt down and won’t ever – I really should run it thru the dryer tho – I’ll bet it’s dusty. Yes, it’s a classic beauty!!
