Tim, 1-26-26

Remember what I’ve always said…..you can’t make this stuff up? Well, here’s a funny one. Tim has been missing from the barn for a few days and I just assumed he went to his second home. Well, it seems as if he has a 3rd home because I went to the basement yesterday and there was Tim laying on the top shelf!!! I startled him and he ran off to the opposite end of the basement. There wasn’t even any food in the basement or even a pail of water!! I put canned food on plates for all the cats and Tim ate from a plate among them as if he knew them all and they knew him!!!! I did not get a picture – I was too shocked.

Now that was yesterday and I haven’t had a glimpse of him since. And Millie did well today with her teeth cleaning. AND you’ll be interested to know that the total price was $3 below the quote – $346!!! After all that conversation about my financial limit etc. WOW, I don’t know what to think. That even includes the antibiotic that I will give her. Thoughts?

PT today and I can feel it tonight. I dread going to bed because I can’t get myself in a reading position and I really love to read before I turn out the light.

It’s 20 above tonight at bedtime. SW wind has been brutal however.

I hope Millie has forgiven me.

Mary, we are all curious how Tim got in the basement. Do you know? Glad the teeth cleaning came in a little less.

  2. Claudia Voorhees

I think you did really well with the cost of the teeth cleaning , if I could get Chloe‘s done for that, I would do it.
    Have a good day !

I had a friend with a cat he never saw!! He put food and water out, the next day it was gone. It was there when he moved in and assumed it stayed when he moved out.
I called the clock smith 2 weeks ago. He called today. His waiting list is 8 months out!!! I’ll take the mechanism out and take it to him. Possibly, because he doesn’t have to make a house call, he can get to it sooner. I have a granddaughter clock. If it was a grandfather clock, I’d go broke.
I’m almost done cleaning and sorting my sewing room, then I can sew without guilt.
Good luck at PT, take your pain pill before you get there.

  4. Diane,Squeak, Buddy in Central Ohio

Squeak has been quite worried about her twin, Millie, so It is good to see that she is home and doing ok. Maybe they lowered the bill because you are such a good pet Mom and go there often. Tim might be a magician and can appear when he wants. Cutie. We had 13″ of snow in 24 hours. That is a lot for Central Ohio so schools were closed on Monday and then again today because it is so cold. It was minus 2 here this AM with minus 24 windchill. Brrr. We haven’t had a paper or mail since Saturday. The mailman went down our street, but never came back up. I hope the PT works for you, Mary. My husband has to do PT a lot due to back and neck issues. It takes a lot out of a person, I know.
    Stay safe and warm everyone:)

Tim the cat is probably on your farm all the time! 😂😂. The elusive cat!
Hope your shoulder isn’t giving you fits! And your hips! I use a lot of icy hot!!

  6. Christine in AZ

I’m glad Millie’s teeth cleaning came in under budget rather than over. That’s a win!
It’s really cold here in Flagstaff – this morning it was 15 when we got up – brrrr! Our poor dog won’t go outside until it warms up a bit. If it were up to him it would warm up to 70, haha.
Tim is such a funny guy – no telling where he’ll turn up next!

  7. Barbara Kuhlman

Try using a crockpot to keep the water from freezing for the chickens. Set it on a cement block and plug it in!

  8. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Tim is sure resourceful!! I’m glad he knows how to stay warm. And that he plays nice with your other cats. How cute!!He probably learned all about your dog door!!
Schools are closed for a second day due to frigid temperatures and wind chills.

  9. Cynthia in Minnesota

Good morning Mary! I hope you are able to find out how Tim is getting into your basement so you can close it off. I wouldn’t want an unwelcome animal hiding out !

Hope you were able to get comfortable & read last night, Mary. And I sure hope the PT works for you. This bitter cold winter weather certainly doesn’t help either. The picture of the patio is mine & was taken before we got 3 more inches of snow! We haven’t had this much snow in many years in SW Ohio, and below zero temperatures that’s staying for a while. It’s not unusual to get 4-6″ & then it melts within a week. Our winters have been rather mild. Wonder how Tim got in your basement without you noticing?? You are so right, Mary…you can’t make this stuff up! I did get my #12 DD done. A Christmas tree skirt that I had cut out & never even got to the sewing stage. It still needs to be quilted but the machine I use for quilting is in my sunroom & I don’t heat it when it’s this cold, I set up a small machine on my dining room table & sew. I’ll send a picture this afternoon. Everyone stay safe & warm.

Good Morning Mary, It is especially cold here in North Dakota. I had to look up what I paid for our dogs to get there teeth cleaned. A couple years ago, I happened to look at my dogs teeth and I notice that there was redness around one tooth and took him in. It was so bad that they had to pull it. I didn’t know I was supposed to look for those things. Anyway, now all three dogs go in once a year to get their teeth cleaned. And they do have those toys to chew on to help with teeth cleaning. So, each dogs cleaning was $303.

It does make you feel bad when you get the stink eye from pets after you’ve brought them home from the vet.
We got a foot of snow as the weather folks predicted. It’s this lingering cold temps that worry me as we are safe staying inside our places. We haven’t been out anywhere in 5 days but today I’m going for a blood draw before a doctor visit as roads are all fine. Snow banks are high. Schools in session so another day to eat leftovers and sew.

  13. Kelli in N.E. Ohio

So happy to hear Millie did well ansd WOW! I was shocked to hear your bill was lower than the estimate- and that they didn’t charge for tooth extraction??? go figure!🤷‍♀️ chalk it up to a win for the day. Do you think it’s because you have them a limit?

Glad Tim was inside and actually ate with the other cats – amazing!

We’ve had wicked wind chills here – my Beau loves cold and snow (just like his Momma 🤣) but doesn’t understand little doggie toe pads can freeze. He goes out all bundled up and doesn’t want to come in. Yesterday he jumped in a snow bank and got stuck! I warned him it wouldn’t work but guess we allmhabe to learn some lessons the hard way! No worries- I pulled him out and he got lovins on a warm blanket afterwards

    Happy Tuesday Everyone!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kelli – I’m glad you were watching him when he got stuck! Oh, I definitely think the price was lower because I questioned them. I don’t know how businesses can change prices after the fact. It would be like a retail shop upping the price after an item was brought to the register for purchase!

      1. Susan from AL

Oh, Mary! It’s a blessing that you are only now experiencing the price escalation — we have lived all over the world, and It Is Crazy in some places. We would go to a store, pick up an item WITH A PRICE STICKER ON IT, and go to pay for it. Suddenly, when they see that we are “Westerners”, the price is significantly higher. You have to learn enough of whatever language so that you can argue LOL

Last week, my sheepdog was violently ill, all over the house …ugh, ugh, ugh… I would have tried to wait it out, but I was worried about the storm and I was worried that it might be pancreatitis. Also ugh, ugh, ugh. $867 later, the very kind vet told me that it was very likely a virus and wasn’t I glad that it wasn’t worse? Well, sure, I was glad, but I was also not so happy! Yesterday, my Westie had the exact same symptoms, but he’s not very big and CLEARLY had lost a lot of fluids, so I took him in. His bill was $432. ARGH It’s going to be a lean month in February; good thing the freezer is full because I do not like ramen noodles.

One of my boys and his wife are both veterinarians, and I have complained about costs to them. They know; their costs have risen tremendously too, including continuing education and office rents and equipment and insurances and so on. After contributing so much to his education expenses, he knows that we expect free phone consults for life LOL They live a long way from here, so that’s the best I can do right now.

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Susan – and the price was more when they saw who wanted to buy it? Well, if that isn’t just nasty! This is Iowa – we’ve never heard of such a thing – until that receptionist asked what my limit was. I still can’t believe it. I’ve said to Rick so many times – I’m glad I’m old. My wants and needs are few here on the farm – everything paid for many years ago. I do not know how families afford to eat. The prices you told about for your dogs are making me glad everybody here is relatively healthy, I guess. But what did the dogs get for $867 and $432? Yikes.

  14. Mary in Ca.

Dang Mary….what a deal on teeth cleaning for your kitty! I need to take you with me the next time Jack needs his teeth cleaned.
Maybe this will be a night to sleep in your recliner. Sit to read then tilt back to sleep!
P.T. is always worse before it gets better.
    Stay strong…you can do this!❤️

  15. Dee from Shell Rock

I know that we really bit the bullet this time with the weather. Cold is icky but what the others got is horrific. My granddaughter is a nurse in Nashville right now. I asked if she had power at the hospital. She said it’s in the middle of downtown and was ok from the storm. The awful destruction is out in the suburbs. My sister is in Oklahoma, they got some snow, some rain. Daughter in southern Iowa, right at the Mo line, they got a little snow, then some rain, but better now. The friend in Huntsville Alabama had 2″ of snow, then an inch of ice. How fortunate we were.

  16. Sara in Indiana

Very glad Millie did well! Tim is a cat wrapped in mystery— how did he even get into your basement? His story is like a book you can’t put down—lol. Hope you manage to find a comfortable position for reading before bed!
