Tim Returns, 6-15-26

I feel like I went from one chore to another today but it was a good day. After two months, Tim showed up in the woodshed – very thin. Where has he been? Rick suggested maybe he got locked in somewhere – I don’t know how he survived but I spent lots of time with him petting and feeding and talking.

He’s so thin.
I feed Tim at the top of the ladder where he feels safest

I’m praying he’ll stick around till he builds up his strength. He would never let me carry him down the ladder.

Almost ready

Remember I asked about Yellow Brick Road? If you’ve made this quilt once or multiple times, let’s do a Yellow Brick Road quilt show here on the blog. I got mine sewn together in rows tonight.

Marsha is in disbelief that she got 25 cards today! Thank you! You’re making me proud of our efforts to cheer someone up who is on the downside of life at the moment with serious health issues. And she marveled at your notes! You don’t just sign your name – you make the card happy and interesting when you write a bit about yourself. Thank you!!!

No reader quilt photos tonight. 🙁

Cloud bank to the northwest – rain hopefully?

Hey, you did all you could do for Tim; he is one independent tomcat. He can’t stay too long; he knows you will make him an appointment with the vet.
I know I have at least two Yellow Brick Road patterns. It is a security thing; if I can’t find it, I have to order another one.
    Thanks, Mary 🥰

I was away from home too but sadly I didn’t return home thin like poor Tim. In fact I think I even gained a few pounds.Glad he’s back home with you. Got my card in the mail to Marsha. And now lots of laundry & bill paying to catch up on.

I think Tim has the cutest face (well so does Morty) as they all do but I sure hope Tim stays close by now. I’m so happy he came back for some snuggling and of course good food.

Kathy – I’m so sad to report that Tim is not here today! Sigh.

Poor Tim!! So glad he finally came home to you. This is when you really wish they could talk and share all of their adventures and what happened. I just love when you share the animals with us. I’ll have to go through my quilts and find my Yellow Brick Road quilts. I’m sure there is at least 2 of them…… now to find them……. hope the leg is continue to heal.

Hi Mary – Tim looks thin, but very clean and cared for. Did you prep him for the photo? Glad he’s back! What a big mix-up with the refridgerator – hope one of them can be returned or something – donated?
The Repels All deterrent seems to be working to keep the squirrels out of the plant pots, but has to be reapplied often. Had a nice rather calm thunder/lightening/ rain here the other night – so very welcome! Gosh, it’s almost Summer!

Judy – I had a reader tell me this did not post for her but evidently you got it? He wasn’t that dirty really but very thin / makes me feel so bad.😢

Mary, some of those traveling Tim’s get really skinny during the summer because they are traveling to see all their ladies! The ones that comes to visit here are all skinny and scrawny! Did I tell you we are down to 4 cats? The black one with white feet and bib is still here but the gray one with white feet is not. 😓 plus 3 others. Coons or coyotes killing them? A coon was killing a possum the other morning. Possums are vicious if cornered and so are coons!
Well, one week! I hate to complain but I have to drink a protein drink every day. Oh so chalky! Uhg! Gag! My friend said to put ice and a little coffee with it! Perfect! It’s tasty then and takes away the Chalky!
Cleaning lady is coming today. Get the house clean before surgery 🥰
Mary didn’t you have an anniversary on June 14? Or am I mistaken or did you mention it and I didn’t see it? Happy Anniversary!
Does anyone else have ash trees. We have a landscaper come and treat the ones on the lawn…no a cheap deal but better than dead trees on the lawn, we have four and one was here 54 years ago when we moved here. The other three were planted by us at some point! Our windbreak ash trees are slowly dying one by one! So sad! The tree remover guys are so busy it will be years before they get them out.
It is such a beautiful morning here. Bright blue sky. The lawn is getting brown. Need rain. My yucca is blooming! I need to take a picture and send to Mary!
Have a good day! I’m going out for lunch with my daughter! Yippee!
I love the yellow brick road and have made it but gave it away, I think. They are so similar to turning 20 that I confuse them. Mary, yours is so pretty!

Hi Joy, we used to have ash trees. Starting three years ago we took down around 30 ash trees. Most were mature. We rented a tall lift and started cutting. We are able to do all but the largest one. It is amazing what a tree service can do with their equipment . They took that tree down in 2.5 hours. All by remote control. We thought if we attempted to take down the tree it would take us around 6 days. It is looking so different around our place. It is so sad. I hope the trees that you treat survive.

Joy – yes, our anniversary is Flag Day but since I disapprove of all the turmoil in Washington I decided to just forget it / what a way to acknowledge the 250th!
Our tree service can’t get here to take care of our ash trees – we have 5 right in our house yard that could easily fall on to the house – they said it might be next winter before they get here! They were all here when I came 50 years ago. When I drive anywhere I look at the groves and see dead ash trees everywhere!!
Can’t see Tim this morning – hope he didn’t leave. You mean a coon was killing a possum in your yard – close enough you could see it? Your poor cats / can they get in somewhere at night to escape the predators? I hope so.
I’m glad I’m not staring at surgery but you’ll be so much better off when it’s done!!

      1. Joy in NW Iowa

Mary, I’m comfortable with having surgery just like when I had back surgery. I was so ready to get rid of the pain!
I guess I do not know what happened in Washington on the 14th….hmmm
Well, I wish you many more Anniversaries!
And yes a coon was killing the possum until jay went out and hollered at him and then the possum was still living but crawled closer to the house and died. Yikes.
I will not be part of cutting down any ash trees and my husband is not either . He is 81! So, we will have to wait for a tee guy I guess. Or a digger guy…
        Have a good one.

Joy – Tump’s stupid birthday celebration with the big fight that he tore up the lawn in front of the White House for – he walked the trash fighters through the White House

Love your Yellow Brick Road. You have such an eye for color combinations. That bad hair day chicken is so cute. I’ve never seen one so fancy. So happy Tim is back. He knows a safe house and a good care taker that’s for sure. Be careful on that ladder young lady!

A short update on our daughter, Rhonda. She did get a root canal done on her tooth that was giving her terrible pain. She is still having pain, but not nearly as bad as it had been. She cannot chew on that side at all. She is suppose to have her second chemo treatment tomorrow, so will see what her oncologist thinks. Also, just wanted to thank those that sent her cards. For three days in a row, she received over 20 cards, similar to what Marsha is receiving. I’m so glad Marsha is also receiving cards. It was overwhelming to our daughter that so many strangers would send her a card. She said they are still trickling in. Kindness does matter.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jeanine – I’m sorry to hear that she is still having pain after a root canal! What does her dentist say?? Shouldn’t that pain have disappeared???? Poor girl. Yes, Kindness Matters and if more people remembered that, we’d all be better off.

      1. Jeanine from SE Iowa

Mary – The dentist that did the root canal was a different dentist that put the crown on her tooth first. He did not want to deal with the root canal so sent her to another dentist in Aberdeen, and he got her in the next day. He told her it would be sore for a couple days, but she has had pain for so long with it, so it will probably take longer to heal? Maybe. She has to drive an hour and a half to the dentist, so you don’t just pick up and go. I hope it gets better and hope this doesn’t delay her chemo treatment again another week. Her body has gone through a lot since her surgery April 15. I think it is confused about all the changes. Now she’s dealing with a lot of fluid around her chest, back and arms, and that, too, is very painful. It’s hard for her to sleep in her recliner.

Good Morning! So glad that Tim showed up! I bet Rick is right he probably got locked up somewhere. Glad that he know your place is safe but it makes me wonder what happened to him to make him so afraid. Love that pattern yellow brick road! I’m going to find it and make something. Hope you leg is doing better….. I know life on the farm

Two weeks ago our garage refrigerator suddenly stopped working. We use it mostly for extra beverages and things we don’t want to clutter our kitchen fridge with. It was 10cu.ft. and about 12 years old. We went out and ordered another one, a scratch and dent one, from the appliance store we like to do business with. We had to get a larger size, 18cu.ft, since they didn’t carry the smaller size. Yesterday they delivered it, plugged it in, and guess what? It didn’t turn on. The outlet had gone bad, not the first refrigerator! Ugh! We plugged it in with a heavy duty extension cord to another outlet and it works great. But we wouldn’t have needed a new refrigerator after all. Today someone is coming to fix the outlet so we can plug it in properly. So lesson learned. We did check the breaker box to see if any of the breakers had tripped but did not check the electrical outlet. It was an expensive lesson.
Funny story also. We were away this past weekend to Lancaster PA and went to Goods Department Store, one of our favorite places to shop. For the last three days, ads for Goods have been all throughout your blog for me to click on. Now how did that happen do you think? Just real curious.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sue – first of all – what did you do with the new frig? Could it be returned? Did you have a spot to put it? Or did the store take the old frig? Ugh. This sounds like something that happens here. I am not familiar with Goods Dept Store. Did you have your phone in your purse? Could it pick up the WiFi in the store and infiltrate your WiFi? I don’t know if that’s even possible – I’m pretty stupid about technology – I can send emails and write the blog and that’s about it.

      1. Sue in PA

We ended up keeping the new refrigerator and having them haul off the old one (which still worked fine as it turned out). We had a handyman out yesterday and it add insult to injury, found out the outlet is ok. A gfi outlet in our laundry room inside the house had popped and somehow affected the outlet in our garage. Go figure!
As far as Goods Department Store, yes, I did have my phone with me when I shopped there. Wow, that is scary that it possibly picks up things like that.

    2. Lynette in Orlando

Sue — I had the same thing happen to me with a microwave. So I learned that lesson also. Also – I got a very nice small fridge at Home Depot — I happened to get the red one but came in a variety of colors. It is a “Galan”
