Tim Update and More, 1-31-26

Right after I signed off on last night’s post, I headed to the barn praying out loud the whole way – Please let Tim be in the barn, Please let Tim be in the barn! I opened the door and almost stumbled over him! He jumped right up on the feeding shelf and I ran back to the house for canned food. It was at this point that I wish I had thought about putting the antibiotics in that food. Sigh.

I spent lots of time petting him and gave the other half of the canned food to Barney. I nearly raced to the barn this morning with the antibiotics….but Tim was gone. I went to the barn numerous times today hoping he’d be there but he wasn’t. So I’ll start over tomorrow.

As soon as I get Brenda’s address, I’ll post it for our next card shower. She’s really had a time of it and can use our happy thoughts and encouragement. She’s the one that face planted saving a baby goat.

I’ve talked to several of our “friends” in the southeast – a couple having generator issues, one car trouble, another without heat. It’s a hard time for many.

Rivalries among friends and family can be difficult at best – here’s how Barbara handled that subject when she made a quilt for a gift.

No! I said to her – you didn’t! And she said yes, I did!!!!
Both Connie and I made this quilt – mine is about this size. Connie’s quilt is queen size!!! She’s such an overachiever!
Repeat – great colors!

And here’s my whine for the night. I bought Keeper and Hazel two dental chew toys and this was the result of 10 minutes of trying to cut open the sealed packages:

Really? What’s the point here? I nearly threw the mess in the garbage …but at $5.99 each I did hesitate. Just makes me so mad. And breakable eggs are sold in a flimsy carton. Insane.

And here’s the reward for those of you who kept reading. February’s Dirty Dozen number is four – 4. I will announce it in tomorrow’s post but some of you will already know and be pulling your #4!!!! Yes! And you’re welcome!

Good Night!

Great quilts & stories today. Especially admire the t-shirt quilt. Not sure if it was Cindy’s or someone else’s but great design!

I do feel for those places with these cold temps and conditions they are not use to. Frozen pipes can happen to anyone at any time and such an expense and mess. But I honestly think this stretch of cold weather is way more than many of us are accustomed to as we’ve been spoiled here with mild winters for the last 4-5 years. We aren’t suppose to be above 32 till mid February. That’s a downer!
Prayers that Tim will turn up again and let you help him heal.
I’m so happy to see the machine quilting on Sunflowers embroidered quilt as I ask myself do you go over the stitching or around it so to see yours close up, helps me to see it’s fine going around it. I do a lot of embroidery in the evenings as it’s relaxing to me as slow as I am with it.

am so sad to hear about Tim. He is a lucky cat to have you.
I haven’t commented in a very long time, but I look forward to your posts at night. I’m usually reading and will put down my book to read what you’ve written.

Off subject, but I am currently reading,”My Friends,” by Fredrick Backman. . If you haven’t read it, it is definitely worth the read. must read. I actually laughed out loud while reading it.I can’t remember the last time I did that.

I have a question about something that has probably already been asked, but did you do make the envelope valentine mini quilt? I think it is adorable and would like to make it myself. If you didn’t make it, maybe the person who did wouldn’t mind sharing where they got the pattern. I never do seasonal quilts or mini quilts.. I have not been able to quilt for quite a long time and I think that starting with something smaller might be a good place to start again. I think it might not feel so overwhelming.

I wish you and all of your farm pets the very best. You are indeed a very special person.
I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Sunday

Please excuse me for my extra words and grammar. That’s what I get for not editing before sending!!

Nanette – I love Frederick Bachman stories! Havent read this one however.. A comment was just left about the envelope quilt. You’re right, if you’ve been away from quilting for awhile, a small quilt won’t be so intimidating!

Nanette….in case you didn’t get a response on the wall hanging. Missouri Star has one called “Forever Yours” which is similar but not exact. The pattern for the envelope and hearts is half price. There is also Valentine fabrics. It is a small project that is doable as you mentioned wanting a motivation piece to start. It is so cute that I ordered the pattern and fabric. Hope this helps you….

When it comes to football . . . there is a big gap between compromise and capitulation! I’ve been a HUGE Chiefs fan since they packed up and left Texas for KC. Not so much my husband who, born and raised in New York City, was all about the Giants. It was something I could live with, different conferences after all and as long as they didn’t play each other no problem. In fact, I converted him and we attended a lot of games Arrowhead. Now it is my SIL with the conflict. A Detroit boy, he is all about the Lions. Again, different conference and the Lions in a Super Bowl. Yeah, don’t thinks so. All that being said, the Chief’s gear I make (a lot of it) are strictly red, gold, and white. That gap remains under secure padlock. Praying Tim will let you take care of him. Kitties can be so stubborn when they are sick, injured, afraid and need help.

Everyone did such a nice job on their DD #12. Thanks for sharing them.
Mary, you are so right about the unnecessary packaging of some products. So frustrating, plus it has to add to the expense.
I hope Tim will come back around and you can get some antibiotics into him. Poor kitty.
I hope everyone can stay warm

  8. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Ohio State fan here. My husband was from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He’d tease me when the football were on and say, “Go Blue!”. He didn’t follow football but he’d have fun with me. Two football players from Ohio State are in the Super Bowl this year. Treveon Henderson for New England Patriots and Jaxson Smith Njigba for Seattle Seahawks! And the coach for New England is from Ohio State. I’ll have a lot to root for!!!
Hope Tim comes home soon. Poor guy. A lot of good quilts today. Stay warm, folks. Haven’t been anywhere in over a week. I’m getting cabin fever!!

  9. Aileen

I’m really laughing over the dog chews packaging , unbelievable ! My husband and I always say , yep it’s child proof ! I love the chiefs quilt with the bills block in there , hilarious . We have a stray cat that comes here , we feed her , made her a house to go into , most of the time she’s here but then she disappears and I’m like you worrying where she is and if Hungary . This has been going on for a couple of years and she just now has let us touch her but only while eating .

So newsy! I love it! Love all the photos too!

    Hope Tim returned(s).

I only spent about 1 hr and half yesterday in the sewing room and I had to deal with organizing things again. Moving stuff around and hope I don’t forget where I moved it to. I hope this afternoon I can spend more time there. I made bread yesterday, Toast this morning with an egg–local grown egg at that!

Mary – adding to your prayers about Tim! It’s always the animals that I am concerned about.

I will also totally agree with you on the packaging. Oh my goodness!!!! I’ve sliced open my hand on the sharp plastic edge. It’s always products that make no sense to need/have all that packaging. Give me a break!

Barbara — LOVE what you did with the quilt!!!! Ingenious!

To everyone – I hope everyone is staying safe and warm. This morning is absolutely frigid in Orlando (really all of Florida). I know to some of you, you laugh at us, but our houses aren’t built for this weather. I have 3 faucets dripping so my pipes don’t freeze. Saw on the news someone’s pipes froze and broke under their slab. Fortunately so far I’m good and my sewing room is the toastiest room in the house!

  12. Denise

Hope Tim returns soon, have the medication handy. Loved your quilt Mary, it was spectacular. As were all the other quilts featured the last couple of days
    Lots of talented ladies.

Just in case Cindy in Illinois doesn’t see this request, I saw this pattern for the first time last week. The picture I snapped says Happy’s Place, designed exclusively for Hoffman Fabrics by Karen Hanson of Quilt Boss Designs.

      Isn’t that the cutest pattern!

  13. Angie from Baltimore

I hope Tim comes home again. He needs you. As for the packaging I have injured myself getting into bandage packages to fix something else. Not sure why they make it so difficult to get into the package. I have a medical item I must use for glucose monitoring and I have had the worst time unscrewing the device. I love that the question people ask about it “will it hurt when I put it on my arm?” I want to say”first you have to have the strength of Samson to open it before you can even apply it, your hand will hurt so much your arm won’t hurt a bit”.

  14. Jo in Wyoming

Mary, keep those positive thoughts coming. Tim knows where a good meal is at, hopefully he will return to get one.
That Love Letters quilt is perfect for February.
I hope all you readers enduring horrible weather, please know we are thinking about you. About 6 weeks and flowers will start coming up. I pray you won’t have devastating floods after it starts warming up.

  15. Sally in NV

Mary, hopefully Tim will come again tomorrow morning. It’s a good sign that he is eating and wanted some love and attention from you. I love what Barbara did with the Chiefs quilt! I’ll be doing something similar with my niece’s husband’s quilt. He’s a huge Ohio State fan. I was born in Michigan. Go Blue! Gotta have fun! Love all the quilts. Sunflower, did you hand embroider all those blocks? They are so sweet. Sweet dog too. The little gray kitty is so cute. Hank is so handsome. It’s going to be 70, 74, 73, 72 this week.

    1. Sunflower 🌻 from Michigan

Sally, yes i did the embroidery on blocks of both quilts. Thanks! Im not an OSU fan so i truly think you should add in a Michigan block! Lol🌻
