Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all you Irish people!!!

I can’t find a thing to write about tonite – had the oil changed in my van at the coop late this morning and the rest of the day was just boring.

I have a treatment tomorrow morning and will go on to Walmart to get my glasses. Other than that – nothing.

How nice of you to leave a towel on the counter for the cat! I love an orange cat! They usually have attitude a’ plenty. ;D Have a lovely day! Kara

So much for going to Sioux Falls today. Jay decided it was a perfect day to light the remains of our old wash house. I felt bad when they shoved it in a heap because it was the original homesteader house! But it was falling apart and the coons used it for a home. Shortly after he came in to see if that as ok, he got a call that they were rescheduling his dermatology appointment because of something at the clinic. So, that took care of that! Then Walmart sent me an update about the order I had sent them to pick up. They didn’t have half the stuff I needed! Just wasn’t my day to go to Sioux Falls. Good thing we didn’t, because neither of us realized there was a three !! Foot snow drift on our drive. Ha! I would have backed right into it and been stuck! It is beautiful here with awesome sunshine!

Mary, I hope your place is getting sun today, it is very uplifting. Cute photo of Mortie! She is so adorable. I am taking my sister out for lunch shortly it is her birthday today. Ot much for shopping today for me. A stop at the library as they are having a book sale starting today. I helped one day getting books lined up. Very organized, and, so many categories as well. I have to iron parts of quilt blocks to sew again, working on my dirty dozen for March. I hope a lot of snow melts today, the sun is so strong. By the weekend it should really go away too. Southwest Minnesota State University is having Gold College starting next week, first time I’ve signed up for classes. Should be interesting.

I had to do a double, triple, quadruple take with the longarm cover. I saw a very fancy wheel chair cover but thought that poor person had serious problems if they needed a screen to show functions. Then my eyes kicked in and I saw the machine handles and figured it out. Need more tea for sure this morning. I finished Custer off again about 1:30 this morning. Book 5 so far this year due to a trip out west this fall. Have a reading list of 20+ more. We all have our quirks…
That is such a great idea to show the pattern cover for the quilt. All were lovely as usual.

Every day can’t be exciting and full of news can it? Day of rest for the brain. Get outside and that will change your feelings. We all have down days. Michigan is buried! At least we aren’t and temps are rising today. It will make things better.

I have a book club meeting. The book was extremely different for me. A good read. It was a little tedious but I endured. Parts of it was “can’t put it down”. The name of the book is “The Book of Doors”. I know many of the readers here read books is why putting it out there and for you Mary. For those times when nothing else suits, read.

Fran – thank you! I’m always looking for a good book. I’m about ready to quit my current one.

I really like the pictures! Especially Mortie! What a cat! Does he fly around doing zoomies?
We had a Minnie blizzard again yesterday for a couple of hours. It was a cold day with a south east wind and snow.
Thee isn’t much new here either, I sewed.
We had chicken wings in the air fryer for supper.
Today is Sioux Falls day for a checkup for Jay at the dermatologist. He’s in the every six month radar.
We go to Sioux Falls about once a week…usually appointments and if we don’t have an appointment I want to get out and do something! I’m getting a little cabin feverish….its been a while since I’ve been out.
Whoops, they just called and rescheduled the appointment! Well, I may have to get out anyway! Yeeks.

Joy – yes, we got that same ground blizzard! We do have a couple cats that do zoomies but Mortie hasn’t caught on to that yet.

I have had two very busy days cleaning after the remodel job here. I really like my new bathroom and laundry rooms. My laundry had been in the bathroom, but our son took them out, put in a larger shower (old one 32″ square), and redid the pantry off the kitchen for the washer/dryer. He does such a wonderful job, and has such good ideas. I am not done cleaning yet, as you know how much dust there is when remodeling.
I am working in my sewing room now. I started on it yesterday. I have the kitchen and dining room done. I was a bit sore this morning! I was up and down a ladder a lot yesterday. We will get our living room carpet cleaned when I get done. It all takes time when you get to my age. But it is all good.
I enjoyed the quilts today, and such a cute innocent Mortie! Have a good day everyone. Warmer weather coming this weekend.

When I saw the pic of Morties by the coffee maker I thought a good caption would be Honey Bunn! What a sweetie. Loved the scrappy quilts. Very cold here & still spitting snow. I love a day when I don’t have anything to do.

      1. Diane, Squeak, Buddy in Central Ohio

I thought of that, too, Des, because a friend of ours had a Dachshund named Honey Bun and she was so sweet. Before puppy car seats, she had a makeshift one that she loved to ride from Long Island to Western NY. We loved that little girl. I thought Mortie was waiting for her coffee:)
I love ALL of the quilts the last few days. It has been a busy week already. Sorry about Iowa and UCLA, Mary, but UCLA is a very tough team! Mary, I am trying to have a sewing only day today so I can finally finish the top for my 9 patch/hour glass Fall quilt. I always try to click on the ads, but the one that comes up on the far right side of my computer will not go away no matter how I click it. I can click the others on the three dots and they disappear, but not that one. Weird. Have a GREAT do nothing day, Mary and good luck with the treatment tomorrow and getting your glasses:)

Great minds think alike, I thought of that too! Mortie is just adorable. Love that longarm cover!

Mary we all deserve a day of nothing. It’s how we spend it that matters. Love the photos of the quilts and the longarm cover. So clever. If the maker came up with the pattern she should market it. Mortie looks like she’s waiting for her coffee or she’s just getting her caffeine fix through the air.
Still working on my pineapple blocks, need to make only ten more. 100 total. Can’t believe when there made it will be 3700 pieces in the blocks. Will be king size when done.
Hubby has been going to PT for issues in left leg and/or back. So moving snow has been done by the neighbor and myself. But that’s okay. Made corn beef in the instant pot and had roasted Brussels sprouts and potatoes for St. Pats day.
    Have a great day everyone.

Love the Ohio Star quilt (I believe that’s the correct name?) I’ve been entranced lately with scrappy quilts. And I’m intrigued by the Birthday Cake quilt- will definitely be putting that on my “to make” list!

    Mortie looks so snuggly 🥰😺

  11. Joanne

Mary nice to have a nothing day every now and then ! Did you ever see The Seinfeld episode about nothing? Funny episode. Nothing day better then being on hold forever trying to correct a bill on your phone!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Joanne – YES! A show about nothing which is where I got “the blog about nothing” –

We finally got our son plowed and shoveled out, just in time for him to come home from a work trip. Its still fairly cold here in central Wisconsin but will warm up by Saturday. I enjoyed seeing the sewing cover, what a good idea. I need to make one for my serger and my daily machine. Cute star block quilt today, and there are so many Villa Rose patterns to like. Its okay to have a no news days, we get it. Enjoy the evening.

You’re a day ahead of yourself Mary! It is the 17th but it’s only Tuesday. Wishful thinking perhaps?
We’re supposed to get up to 75° this week but then drop down again next. Our daffodils and hyacinths are blooming. Hope a freeze doesn’t kill them off.

  14. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

I really like the cover for the longarm. I made a cover for my serger as the plastic one was disintegrating after 30 years. Lol. I want to make three more, one for my bobbin winder for my Sweet 16, one for my Sweet 16 and one for my Juki. Seeing that cover gave me ideas as it looks like the front flap under the computer screen has velcro to hold it on. I need them for a dust cover but also to keep the sun off of them.

Teresa, how do you like your Sweet Sixteen? I’ve been thinking about getting one. I’d appreciate your thoughts.

      1. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

I bought a sit down machine because I have an ankle issue and at the time I couldn’t stand for any length of time. That said, I love it. I have used it to quilt small quilts up to king size. It’s only layering large quilts that’s a pain as I do them on the floor, but that has nothing to do with the machine. I’ve had it for about 8 years I’d say and it works like a charm. I have mine set up between two tables. I didn’t buy the side extensions to put on the table, they were too expensive for what you got and I knew I could always set up one of those plastic folding tables for extra space. I was able to try one at a Quilt Canada show which was helpful as well as at a sewing store before purchasing mine. I don’t regret it and it doesn’t take up the space a longarm does. I also didn’t buy the stitch regulator, I found it harder to keep my stitches even. Good luck, hope that helps

          1. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

Colleen, good luck with your decision. I know there hasn’t been a day I regretted buying it.

  15. Cindy K

That’s a good way to get warmed up-just sit by the coffee pot! 😄 Nice quilts and great way to cover the longarm.

  16. Kathy in western NY

The pictures were fun to see so don’t worry about writing nothing. Looking at that cutie on your counter makes me smile.
We had delicious Rueben’s from a local wedding/ party house that decided to do a sit down meal so it was a quiet spacious place to eat as the restaurants were packed with cars that we drove by around here. I made a corned beef dinner on Sunday for family but the meat shrunk so much that we didn’t get our fill of corned beef till tonight with the thick sandwiches we enjoyed.
