Another beautiful day with showers just missing us. Hank came for a play date.

The goslings are hanging in there with mom and dad.

Saw a deer lope through our hayfield. Memories of Eleanor came to mind.
I put my AC unit in my bedroom window – I’m always afraid I’ll drop it out the window. Ha.
Spent lots of time reading about the game online.

And in my mailbox today – the saddest piece of mail I’ve ever received – my card to Amy.

There won’t be a cuter picture of a cornfield than the one with the little boy in his little boots!
Mary- I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to get the card. I collected all the cards she received while in the long term care facility and gave them to the family.
Unfortunately, the facility seemed in a hurry to turn her room. I went back the day after she passed to pick up the rest of her stuff and they had packed it all up, thrown out the flowers and had it in bags in storage. That was upsetting to me as they said I didn’t have to pack it all up the day before when I left. Guess business is business. Thanks for thinking of her. We’re hoping she will become our sewing fairy and finish some of our projects when we sleep. We always joked about wishing the sewing fairy were come when we went to bed on retreats.
That’s too sad how the care facility handled the room. It’s a sad and personal situation taking care of a loved one’s belongings. I’m thankful for the thoughtfulness and respect from the nursing home staff after mom passed away. My brother, sister-in-law and I were told to take our time and we were given privacy sorting and packing. We wanted to throw some things away, donate some things and bring some things home. It would have been sad to see everything heartlessly thrown in bags.
Anita – oh, please don’t worry – it just was another reminder that she’s gone. I hate to think the facility was in such a hurry to remove all remains of Amy. How are you doing?
Thanks for thinking of me. The Liberty girls have been helping me clean out her house. We have shared many laughs and a few tears. We started the end of April and just went through the last of her stash this week. We all have Amy projects to finish and have made plans to get together when finishing them. I’m sure when the house is empty at the end of the month my emotions will come flooding in. Thank goodness I had my two granddaughters to brighten my days when I was feeling low.
Anita – how’s the new baby? What’s her name.
She is precious! Rosie Adele Holt. Rosie was a great grandmother’s name and Adele was a grandmother’s middle name. Both grandmothers were on my son’s wife’s side. She’s tiny, so the doctor wants her fed every 3 hours. My son said her couldn’t get her to wake up the other night. I said “let sleeping babies sleep” and she’ll let you know when she wants to eat! She was 8 lbs 3 oz at birth and is almost back to birth weight. When I’m feeling a little blue, I make a drive to visit a granddaughter.
Anita – a baby named Rosie would cheer anybody up!! Are you lost without Amy?
The quilters have been busy making amazing quilts!
Looks like the corn will be knee high by the 4th of July. The little boy in the corn patch is adorable.
Hank is a handsome dog and looks so content in the pool. I’m surprised Hazel wasn’t in there too.
Watching Fever game and finishing some hand stitching on a little quilt. Go Fever!
I so enjoy your blog. The pictures are so fun to look at. I love the rooster quilt. The little boy in the corn field just made me smile….a lot! Too cute!
My bat story happened in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1978. We lived in a dorm on the campus of Coe College. I could watch the bats swarm in and around the large trees on campus. The men in the dorm would leave the Windows open, screens off and the bats would hang on the indoor walls. Strange experience for me. I never knew bats ate
so many insects. We need the biodiversity and natural predators. Isn’t nature amazing?
Hank in that pool is super cute to me. He always looks so happy when he visits.
I also never knew that geese lived so long. You’ll never be free of geese at this rate. I hope the little ones survive. Always a pleasure to see baby animals.
Your returned card reminds me of my husband’s aunt who was a Catholic nun. She died of pancreas cancer, but wanted to live to her 90th birthday. I sent her a 90th birthday card, and it was returned. She didn’t quite make 90, but she was buried on her 90th birthday. The nuns sang happy birthday to her by her grave site.
She started a food pantry in Wisconsin, had a garden, and was a lab technologist. Very interesting lady.
Good morning, Mary! We are very happy this morning as we received a much needed rain yesterday/last night in the amount of .8″. We really needed it as all the rains have been missing us. We did have some wind, and it blew over some of our sweetcorn, but my husband thinks it will come out of it. That happened to us last year as well.
I have completed simple four patch quilts for a Boys Farm in Honduras the past few days. I think I have five ready to be tied by the ladies in our quilt group at church. We don’t have to put any batting in them, so saves on expense. We have had some pictures sent to us of the boys receiving the quilts, and the smiles on their faces are so rewarding to us. They have very little when they come to that school. It’s a wonderful ministry, and we enjoy making the quilts so much.
I, too, enjoyed the rooster wallhanging and all the other pictures today. So fun to see the variety of pictures you share with us each day. Thank you so much.
It is suppose to get in the 90’s the next few days. Tomorrow I go back to the surgeon in Des Moines in regard to my eye. It is so much better, but still have a little bit of swelling/scar tissue.
Stay cool! So thankful for central A/C!
Jeanine – I am soooo glad your eye is improving!
Thank you, Mary. I am too! It’s been a long ordeal.
I’m so sorry about Amy. Sad way to find out about her. Loved your blog pictures today. That picture of the little boy in the corn field is adorable.
Ginger – I knew the day she passed away but I assumed the family would receive the cards.
Mary,
Im sorry about your letter being returned, that is a shock to find in the mail. Sorry about the loss of Amy.
Beautiful pictures today. I love the rooster quilt also. Striking in the blues.
Yesterday I received a piece of artwork from the 3year old two houses down. It had colorful, fake feathers glued on. She wants me to put it in the coop for the “Henriettas” to enjoy. She also sent a bag of watermelon rinds for them to enjoy!
One month until my son’s wedding. We are ready(??) lol.
I’ve closed several ads. Have a nice day, everyone.🌻
Sunflower – for the Henrietta’s to enjoy!!!! Isn’t that cute? My chickens re crazy for rinds – when watermelon is cheap I eat just the very center and give the rest to them. They’ve been $5 around here this summer. One month to go!!!
The rooster quilt is just beautiful! I’m so envious of her ability. We have been having a strange June. It has rained a lot, but we’re in such a drought that we’re still below normal. It is supposed to hit 95 today and for the next several days. I haven’t complained about the rain because when it stops, it will be blistering for the next two months. Your pictures are so sweet. Thank you for all you do.
Frances – I’m happy to do this for all of you! Yes, the muggy heat is supposed to hit us this weekend as well. Our June has been the same. Wet but in a month we’ll beg for it.
After all our discussion on bats, I came across this: a single bat can eat more than 600 bugs in one hour, like a person eating 20 pizzas a night. 😳. I have a couple that fly around my backyard at dawn – I’m going to start saying bon appetit!
I’m sorry that you received your card back. Maybe contact the nursing home and speak with the director or administrator. They need a policy change so that cards are forwarded to a family member or the family contacted and cards picked up. I agree with Cindy K. in that find the obituary and leave a message for the family or if it lists family members you can do a address look up for free and either forward your card or send a sympathy card. Loved seeing Hank in the pool. Does Keeper cool off that way too? Such pretty quilts tonight.
Martha – Keeper will not get in the pool! He’ll go in the pond tho but I won’t let him out there now when it’s dirty. I assumed they’d give my card to the family, too.
Mary, that returned card just makes me so sad. If you do find her obituary could you let us know? It might be a comfort to her husband to know of her connection with other quilters/readers of your blog. If I remember correctly she had a quilt shop at one time, right?
Hank looks very comfy in that pool! It’s pretty nice that he can come for a playdate with Keeper! It appears that Boots eye surgery is a success, maybe 3rd time is a charm! He has one more day to wear his cone & it’s in pretty bad shape! Lots of dents & creases! Lol, it hasn’t slowed him down one bit!!
Alice – Amy wasn’t married and her siblings don’t live close. She also specified no service – she was a quilt friend but didn’t have a shop. The chickens fabric and coordinates I’m using right now I bought in 2020 the last time I was in Kansas City.
Mary, okay I mixed her up with someone else who I think might have had a shop at one time. I still think it’s sad they didn’t forward the card to a family member! Also sad not to be closer to family, but probably her decision. Many years ago I moved my mother who lived 2+ hrs away from me to a nursing home near me. I wanted to make sure she got good care as she had Parkinson’s. I was able to visit her 3-4 times a week & bring her special treats.
Alice – there wasn’t good care closer than 2 hours away? Oh my, that was a full time job driving there 3-4 times a week, wasn’t it? So,happy to hear about Boots’ eye – finally!!!
So sad for you Mary to open the mail box to find your card. Many years ago my Mother had a similar experience, so upsetting.
Hank looks comfy! So sorry about Amy and the way the card was returned…
I really like the rooster quilt – very striking!
We had a storm roll through this evening with pretty high winds and a deluge of rain – thankfully it didn’t last long. The power went out, but came right back on; it went out a little later for a bit over an hour. I am delighted to say that the whole-house generator that I bought earlier this year worked like a charm! This is the first time I have been home when it kicked in and I must say it’s wonderful to have lights, tv, WATER, and other comforts… the little things that enhance our rural living!
Gail – we always say we’re going to buy one when the power goes out – then the power comes back on and we don’t.
Hank looks like he’s on vacation. Lots of eye candy to see. Very sad that your card was returned, Seems they would have gave it to her family. You can go online to her obituary and leave a message for her family there.
