Ugly Game, 6-19-25

The Golden State Valkyries just beat The Fever by 11 points! It was an ugly game. Caitlin was O-7 for 3 pointers. After the violence of the last game, I think they’re all off balance. Another game on Sunday at 2 – never give up!

Becky and I went to Thursday Night On Main – the band was Dirty Champagne and they were good – sort of a big band sound with many instruments – playing country and pop.

A friend stopped to see me today and brought me this:

I know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow! It will also be a lawn mowing day again. Thunderstorms are predicted for us after midnight. Hazel will be sleeping close.

Molly visited today –

and in my quest to get her some badly needed exercise, we went on several trail rides as well as to the barn several times. Suddenly I’d look around and wonder where Molly was. By the time I got back to the house she was in the chair!

So many cute dogs tonight in Clear Lake and it wasn’t too hot for them. There was one huge furry dog though that should have been left home and he would have been much happier. Poor guy.

Still alive and ok!

Love this picture, Joy! There’s nothing like a golden!
Simple yet so wonderful!

Barney greets me every day – yesterday he had huge field mouse and Keeper really wanted to steal it.
Our neighbors’ new dog Jasper

Time for bed….

I love hearing about Molly; with this heat, indoors in my favorite chair sounds good, too. I loved the picture of Barney; he is so cute.
I am not ready for such high temps. When my kids were little back in the seventies, we didn’t need the AC until July. Child care was much easier with the house wide open. Whine, whine. 😂
    Thanks, Mary

Barney is doing her job! Our cats could use some lessons!
We still haven’t had rain and now it is going to be 99 and 100 for three! Days! And windy! We picked a hot day to go to Sioux Falls. We needed the oil changed and wanted to have some vinyl coating put on the bottom of our car doors to prevent stone chips as we live on gravel! Plus, we went to Costco. Crazy busy there!
Now we are home and don’t really feel like doing anything!

We are out to our camp along Lake Ontario and I’m sorry to say I can’t find any corn fields when I take a quick drive to the local library or farm markets. It’s all Apple orchards for miles and miles here. It’s pretty in spring time with all the blossoms but now it’s green trees as far as you look on a drive. So no picture.
Molly is so cute sitting there. You have the coolest pets come visit you. I did see a corgi puppy this morning at the local quilt shop and she kept licking my ankle. She probably smelled my dogs and wanted me to take her scent home to them.
Loved the quilts and knowing some new family gets to be wrapped in them makes them even more special to me.

Kathy – I’ve never seen many apple orchards – so take a picture for us 😊

Mary I will. I believe New York is the second largest producer of apples with the state of Washington being the first.

Teresa, I love both of your quilts & how special that each baby is given a quilt. I attend a quilting retreat every Oct & last year I believe we completed 23 for the neonatal unit in Cinti. They only want the tops, no batting. I guess they finish them at the hospital.
Today I finally was able to trim shrubs. It’s amazing how much better things look! Last night we took Boots’s cone off from his eye surgery. Talk about a happy dog! He ran zoomies for 5 minutes! I’m also thankful it’s gone as he kept running into me! I have bruises all over my arms & legs from that thing!
Summer is finally here with temps in the 80’s & 90’s!
    Love the picture of Molly!

Cute pictures of Mollie and Jasper. And Barney doing his job in the barn!! Great pictures of the quilts. Not looking forward to the heat coming. I need to do my porch sitting in the early morning.
I love the story of Mollie running ahead of You to the house!

Being a cat person, I am so enjoying the animal pictures. Dogs have no idea that they aren’t human, do they! Especially Goldens. hahaha Personally, I’m starting to lose interest in the WNBA even with the Fever plays and everyone out to get them. I loved watching the plays develop at the college level AND their rules regarding the physical aspect. Lately, the WNBA seems more like “beat ’em up” rather than accenting clean play or a display of team work and the skills of the players. The reason for it is the problem with the players attitudes as well as the coaches. I think they need to watch out or they are going to lose their fan base and $$$. And that’s my vent for the month! Our local Costco sells Caitlin T-shirts.

Linda – last night’s game was hard to watch and I agree that everyone is out to get the Fever. I think they were so shaken by the Game with Conn that they were playing with apprehension and couldn’t relax enough to play like they’re capable of playing.

I, too, love Teresa’s second quilt – simple but so beautiful/striking. We have thunder as I type this. I hope we get rain. I need to clean floors today. Not my favorite job, but if it rains it is something I can do inside before trying to do some quilting. I have a quilt layered and basted on the frame.

Vicki – we got 1” last night – what is with our weather??? We cooked yesterday and today I’m closing the windows and wearing my fuzzy robe.

    2. Teresa from Port Coquitlam, BC

Thank you Vicki. I made both of those quilts with left over fabric from a queen quilt I’m just about finished for our spare room. These quilts went to our local hospital neonatal intensive care unit. Our guilds goal is to provide a quilt to each baby in the unit. I believe we are successful each year. I think this year I contributed 7 or 8. Our guild meets Sept to June. I’m trying to contribute 1/month. I got pretty close this year.

I haven’t been able to post a comment the last 2 times.
Jan S. I love your quilt, bright and retro looking and the adding machine tape quilt from last blog. The brick one with different colors and squares is very good too!
Knee replacement in one week now, trying to not get scared. I lived through my first colonoscopy in April so need to remember that. Brother in law is sending their ice machine from Illinois. I hope it still works, would be better than ice packs.
Our temps have been in low 90s but heat index 103 with humidity 😢. I hate summer heat, Fall is my favorite though sometimes summer heat lasts into October! 🥵!
So glad the goslings are alive!

    1. Sheryl Harrison

Best wishes for your knee surgery. Keep us posted. I’ll be having a replacement in the middle of July.

Pamela – the technology behind the blog is a mystery to me! Don’t be afraid – you’ll be so thrilled to be rid of your knee pain that it will be worth a couple days of pain and yes, the ice machine is invaluable.

      1. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

Thank you Sheryl and Mary! Yes, I am looking forward to no more knee pain and being able to walk more and do stairs! Thinking I need to keep a bed tray over my knees in case Penny or Lucy jumps up. Like all the time!
I forgot to mention Molly looks so sweet and so do Barney and neighbor Jasper. Our border collie, Callie, was just the best dog we ever had 😢. Barney is so handsome 😻

Mary – this is the first time I have read the blog right after you posted it!
I am having sleep issues since last week. Pulled a muscle in my left should/neck area and I’m still in a ton of pain. No sewing for me, so I took my Pfaff in for cleaning and service. She’s making cute little thread nests under my fabric.
Lightning started in around midnight here, now we are having a nice rain. I love sleeping in the rain!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Diana – oh, darn! Sleep issues are familiar to me – how did you pull a muscle??? We got another inch of rain last night – good grief, my poor cacti and succulents!!
