Received this from Deb O:

How do you ever thank people from all around the nation?

A few days before her birthday, I told June to expect some cards to help celebrate her big day. Little did we know that she would receive 72 cards with some still trickling in daily. She was so touched by the personal notes included in the beautiful cards. Many cards were handmade.  Some included small gifts, ie. tea bags, ornaments,  a felt heart, recipes, glitter and even a balloon.

She and her whole family were overwhelmed.  She sits and reread them. Her whole family has read them.

She wants you all to know she appreciates all of you who sent well wishes. She did, indeed, have a great birthday.  She would like to write back to you all!!

And, I,  Deb, also want to thank you readers and,Mary, for the outpouring of love and kindness shown to our June. God bless you all.

Here, Mary, is our Thank you note to your incredible blog readers.

Oh, the power of a card in your mailbox!!

Barkley
Sunny, Barkley, Gabby

Sunny and Gabby are rescued Great Pyrenees/Akbash(Turkish livestock dog) mix – wonderful household of big dogs!

I’m curious to know how many readers own golden retrievers – I get so many pictures of goldens. Tell me if you own a golden – or if a golden owns YOU!

Thanksgiving cactus
From Linda in CA – she’s been watching these hummingbird chicks. Three weeks incubation plus three weeks until they fledge. Like watching a miracle!

No sewing for me today. Practicing for church, doctor appointment and then some mowing of the wettest, spots by the barn. I could bale it!! I’m going to re-mow it tomorrow and then mow the rest of the lawn. I know it’s going to be hot but I’ll get a breeze on the lawnmower.

Did I miss anything? Stay cool everybody.

Just in case anyone is a first time reader here, we have a Golden. But then 99% of you knew that.
Hank’s the best and we take very good care of him, although I’m not convinced if he had the choice he might choose to live with Mary and Keeper and just visit us.

Hanks Mom – I’ve been soooo busy that I’m gonna need a Hank fix pretty soon – I’m expecting company for a late lunch tomorrow and then the afternoon.

I have a Golden named Holly. She will be five in September. She was given to my husband and me, when she was six weeks old, by our daughter when we moved to Eastlake from Holmes County just after Christmas. A few months before the move, our male Golden, Murphy, became very sick and had to be put to sleep. He had been my husband’s best buddy for fourteen years. When Bob began to show signs of dementia, Murphy never left his side. It was heartbreaking losing Murphy.
Holly took to me more than Bob. When Holly was a puppy, she wanted to run, play and go for walks and Bob wasn’t able to play with her most of the time. Eventually Bob couldn’t walk and had to be in a hospitable bed. Holly would sleep next to his bed at night. We didn’t realize it at the time, but Holly was having problems with anxiety. After Bob passed away, it became even worse. When she would become very anxious, she would start chewing whatever was closest to her. About a month ago, in the middle of the night, she chewed and swallowed a 12″ x 24″ piece of a drapes in my bedroom. The vet had to surgically remove the fabric from her stomach. Thankfully the vet realized that this behavior was caused by anxiety and put Holly on an anxiety medication twice a day. I am so happy to say that Holly is a totally different dog. Much, much calmer. I no longer have to worry when she is left alone because she sleeps while I’m gone.

Dianne – poor Holly, missing Bob to the point of eating things. I’m happy to hear she’s good now.

Great image of the hummingbird nest. It is such a long structure. Must have been in use quite some time. Has anyone watched he hummingbird named Olive? She has hatched 17 of 18 eggs since the Spring of 2020. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECmjT2D1SzI As of today this is the second nest on the camer next to the first nest.

That picture of Barkley in the car is so cute!! As soon as I got out of the driver’s seat my dog would hog it while I shopped. My daughter’s said he’d cry when I left! A Good memory. Dogs are so special. I can’t call my Buster a full golden retriever, but the personality sure comes out in his mixed genes. He is the greatest!

Just love the golden sitting in the car. I’m sure he thinks he’s human. We had beautiful weather but now it has cooled off and we have rain. Hope it doesn’t last too long. Mary take it easy in the heat. I just love the power of a card. How it can make someone’s day or week.

Enjoyed the read this morning. Barkley looks to be an awesome dog! He could be the one driving!

It’s terribly hot here in SW Iowa. I didn’t even go out to the mailbox. 103 is hot! The wind has been blowing for 2 days now. We have 2 more days of this predicted. The guy rebuilding my deck is being smart and not working. I spent most of the day in the sewing room in the very comfy basement. I worked on my UFO which is a scrappy one and coming out great

My advice Mary is to stay out of the heat and wait for this heat wave to pass.

The power of a simple card and note. So glad to hear that June received so many well wishes.
Raining and storming here right now. Looks like evening, it’s so dark outside. They’re predicting high temperatures and high humidity for us today. Hopefully, not as hot as predicted.
My friend gifted me some fat quarters so, I’m trying to decide on a pattern.
Our vegetable garden is up as well as the weeds. Next will be trying to outsmart the deer. The battle begins!

The corn by Lamoni is SO tall! Today’s pictures are fun and funny. Take care.

My hay mower came yesterday, we got 2.5″ rain overnight. So I suppose I have 40 acres of crap, not hay. Oh well, I don’t need it to live on thank heavens. But his cows will be a little hungrier. Our water has gone down, not over the road anymore. I saw a muskrat on the road tonight. Been a while since I saw one out of the water. And of course I have a whole plethora of groundhogs. I had 4 little ones playing in the back yard.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Dee – dang! Yes, the hay won’t be much good – I hope your farmer has another source. Poor cows. My farmer who bales my measly 2 acres of alfalfa hasn’t begun – he missed the first cutting completely! Which means ours won’t be much good either. He came over last week and said he’d round bale it. Hazel would have had those baby groundhogs for lunch – glad they don’t live here.

Sunny, Barkley and Gabby are good looking dogs. Feeding them would be a huge chunk of change! Barkley looks very regal in that vehicle.

Cindy K – I thought the same thing! I have not forgotten the fabric – out of time!

Love that sofa hound! It reminds me of some humans sacked out on the couch. I’m not mentioning any names…haha!
