Wednesday Night, 2-12-25

I am posting more needlework tonight but I’m saving all children’s clothes for future posts. I am overwhelmed with photos and I really just need to sort them out. I have a mess in my photo library.

Very cold today, colder tomorrow. We had an inch or so of snow and it’s no issue unless the wind comes up creating a ground blizzard. I had my hair trimmed today – my last haircut was November 7! Just think how short it was and all I wanted today was the bottom of the back trimmed. I don’t think my hairdresser was very happy with me. But…

Here are more needlework photos!

Tomorrow I plan to work at the longarm – I’m falling behind and it’s way too cold to go anywhere. I’m going to sleep in, enjoy 3 cups of coffee while I read your comments – my favorite time of the day!

Here’s what Connie’s working on besides her tan. She has an Etsy store that keeps her busy.

All of the beautiful quilts, needlework and embroidery are just so perfect and enjoyable but there’s one ask that I don’t seem to find. PLEASE LABEL YOUR WORK with the maker, date, and location of the event, along with your personal information.. Something I failed to do over many years but was somewhat better at doing when I lived in a community in AZ and entered some of my work in fairs, shows, and other venues and events. The ribbons I have won, once separated from the items, have been wonderful, but the information regarding the item have been separated from item, with information lost or detached. Please provide the provenance, whether it’s a winner or a gift. Future generations will love you!

I’ve been enjoying seeing all the needlework samplers.
Connie, I love your quilts. I have always loved the Civil War genre of fabric. I don’t typically save fabric scraps from projects I do with the exception of Civil War fabrics (don’t worry, I don’t throw them away – I have a friend who enjoys working with my castoffs).
Connie, what is the name of the quilt pattern you made in two colors? I like the way the placement of the half square triangles brings out different looks.
We had 7″ of snow here in SE Iowa and some is melting today. I hear more is in store for the weekend but we’re not there yet and I know how quickly the weather can change in Iowa so I’ll just wait. I sure did enjoy watching it snow yesterday. I made 10 book bag pillow cases as a charity for our quilt guild. My kids LOVE getting new themed pillowcase every year for Christmas and I’m determined this year to get them done early so I’ve been working on them also. Hope to have them done today. Tomorrow, I will start on a graduation quilt I’ll be making for a cousin who lives in MI and is coming to Iowa State to major in agricultural law. Busy weekend!!

I loved seeing all the pictures and especially enjoyed the sewing room needlework, and the cat on the quilt. Such talent!
It’s chilly here in AZ but we’re getting a lot of clouds that roll in …. then roll out. Then they come back in. I’m hoping one of these times we’ll get some rain but it hasn’t happened yet.

  4. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Feels like 10 degrees right now. Not too willing to venture out. I went to the tax preparer yesterday and was grateful we didn’t have freezing rain.
It is a great to see all this needlework and quilts. I like to see the samplers cherished. There is so much work in them. I’ve always been attracted to sewing projects. We didnt have homemade quilts in our home, but that was a goal of mine when I was young in the sixties. Not did we have samplers on the wall. My mother bought me a kit to make a large cross stitch embroidery that I worked on in college. I had it framed, but left it with my exhusband. A bad decision. Funny to think about that now.
I like seeing all this work.

Lots of creative pieces shared today. Vicki in Seattle, your contributions remind me of some Sun Bonnet Sue designs my Mom did on flour sacks. Sailor cross stitch and yellow and pink posies are card table covers from my family. The rocking chair with the cat and quilt is sitting in my house, sans cat and quilt. I’m drawn to the blue sewing room scene – so detailed. Connie, gorgeous colors in your small quilts!
    Happy Valentine’s all!

The embroidery pieces are wonderful! I love the tuxedo kitty on the quilt. A couple of years ago when I caught on that vintage linens were popular, I took some of mine out of my cedar chest. I put pillowcases on the beds and dresser scarfs on tables and shelves.
It’s -6 and I need to clear my driveway, sidewalks and deck. I don’t know how much snow we got but it’s more than I want to mess with.

  7. Janet S

Such very talented people we have sharing with us. The rocking chair with the quilt and cat along side the lamp is stunning. It’s fun to read this several times and pick up something new each time.

  8. Kelli in NE Ohio

Love the stitchery show! Amazed by all the beautiful samplers/pictures – makes me want to give it a go again! There is so much talent out there!

Not much happening here in N.E. Ohio – weather has been crazy – 50’s one day then ice storm the next – I sure do miss the winters of old! Cold started in Nov and we had snow/ice/ below freezing temps until March. This back and forth is a mess – yuck! Ah well can’t change it so just deal with it Kelli right?

    Enjoy your day!🥰

They are all unique and a wonderful reflection of the time periods, creativity, and patience of the stitchers. I particularly like the cat on the quilt on the rocker and the cardinal in the evergreen. They aren’t the old timer stitching, but their color and pictures appeal to me. Thank you to everyone for sharing.

  10. Kathy in western NY

We’re raining here so it’s not easy getting around our yards to the bird feeders as ice is underneath. Roads are perfectly clear and I have to go to a sewing morning at church, then go to JoAnns for a moment of silence before the store is gone for good. I will miss ours as it was handy for thread, remnants of fleece for pet beds, and our church bought fabric there for lap quilts we donate to cancer and dialysis centers. Hobby Lobby is much more expensive now with most in the $8 and $9 range and up. My husband noticed we aren’t even getting a sale coupon for 10% off anymore from Home Depot so that’s a thing of the past.
I love the appliqué towels Vicki in Seattle showed in her picture. So cute. So many nice creations are a bright spot in our days.

    1. Jeanine from SE iowa

Kathy – Our Hobby Lobby in Iowa has their fabric 40% off every other week, so I plan to go when their fabric is on sale. That includes all fabric on bolts. My closest Joann’s is over an hour away, and I like Hobby Lobby fabric better than Joann’s unless you want to pay for their top of the line fabric. I have a granddaughter that likes Joann’s, so she will be sad if the one she goes to closes. She’s in ND.

      1. Kathy in NY

Jeanine, is it every other week Hobby Lobby puts it on sale as the ladies this morning I sewed this morning with said it’s hit and miss here. They did go to one of the three Hobby Lobby stores in our area to fill out tax exempt forms and was told they had to indicate it was for clothes and not charity quilts so that didn’t set well they had to lie to finish the form.

    2. Vicki in Iowa City

I, too, will miss Joann’s. I buy things big and small there: thread, zippers, batting, decorative boxes, things to repair tears, dish towels, paper craft supplies, etc. The one in my home town of Iowa City is closing. I like to see and touch fabric when I buy. Trying to decide if a color is “true” on-line is kind of hit and miss. When I visit Florida and Houston, the two I use in those cities are also closing. Bummer.

      1. Kathy in NY

It was sad going into the store this afternoon as people were mad and frustrated this is happening to a store many of us enjoyed shopping at. Our was clean and stocked most of the time. Nice helpful clerks. One in our area will remain open even if it’s a half hour drive and it’s the smaller of all the two stores here they are closing. I bought Guterman thread which my Bernina machine likes and some storage boxes. All patterns were 1.95 so I bought some craft patterns and a top pattern.

        1. Diane, Squeak, Buddy in Central Ohio

I read that they are keeping the smaller stores and closing the big ones. Four in the Columbus area are closing; they are all pretty big. The one in Newark is staying open which is lucky for me, but it is small. I am sad to see them go.
The samplers and stitchings are beautiful. I hope to send mine soon. Very busy.

  11. Rita in Iowa

Wonderful samplers and other stitchers. Connie’s quilts are beautiful also. So much talent is being showed. I hope the next generations continue with all kinds of hobbies.
Kim is doing fine, tired and experiencing nausea the last few days. Plans were to come home today but we’ll see if that happens.
Her dryer went out on Monday so we are replacing their 16 year old washer and dryer and being the ice maker on the refrigerator doesn’t work that is getting replaced also. So busy doing prep work to getting ready for that. So it’s been a little busy.
Stay safe for those who have received snow, we receive somewhere between 7-8 inches in Eastern Iowa. I’m glad we’re in Texas but it’s not very warm here either.

    1. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Thank God Kim has loving parents. What a blessing you have been. I’m so glad you are there with her. My daughters helped me with my knee replacement and I’m forever grateful.

      1. Rita in Iowa

Thanks Carolyn, she was supportive when I had my knee replaced in September and she had her Breast surgery the end of September. My daughter in Chicago came down for a few days. Then her husband parents came down for a few days.

  12. Ginger S in New Hampshire

Great pictures tonight. Love all of the stitching and Connie’s quilts are beautiful. We are expecting snow tomorrow. Many schools have posted closings tonight.
