Wet, Snowy Day, 11-8-25

Big heavy flakes of snow along with rain but temps didn’t get cold enough yet to create problems. I don’t think I’ve ever seen these maple trees turn so colorful.

This is what Connie’s been working on – aren’t those just the prettiest colors? The design comes from Lori Holt’s book.

I forgot to post the picture of The Storm last night when I posted that the price would be $10 and I would provide the big envelope.

I got a request for info on this upholstery fabric.

About 25-30 years ago I saw a chair upholstered in this fabric which was so expensive it took my breath away. Instead I ordered a yard of the fabric – all those years ago it was $60/yard! Just think how much $60 was at that time? I could hardly afford one yard. I hemmed a piece that just fits over my chair cushion and I still have some scraps – somewhere. I looked for over an hour for them today – no luck. sigh

Put me in a fowl mood for sure!

Reader photos

Remember when madras plaid was the hot item? We made several patterns using madras and then we cut kits consisting of 9-9” squares of madras. A reader sent this quilt called Plaid Pines – from MANY years ago.

Here are the first quilt kits we ever produced! My mom packaged all of them.

I don’t think Millie feels well at all but I’ve taken her to the vet twice and was told there’s nothing wrong.
These two keep me busy all day!

I still don’t have my van – Rick will have to take me to church. 😭

$60/yd!! Robbery. Even at today’s price. But it looks handmade. It’s beautiful upholstery fabric.
The trees, quilts and leaves are just gorgeous today.
Quilt shops don’t have many books anymore. Nobody buys books for 1or 2 patterns.
Unbelievable you still don’t have your van back. Does your insurance cover a rental? I didn’t for years, but I do now. It might take months to get car parts.
A group of us went to the local community college for brunch today. It was good, inexpensive, and not crowded or noisy. No background music. Very nice, we will do that again.

That little stinker Mortie is sure growing up. I hope Millie feels herself soon. I know how we worry about them.

Kathy, Sleep in Heavenly Peace is the name of the group we are making pillow cases for. We are also making quilts and blankets for them too.
The jail returned all the fleece I supplied for the inmates to make blankets for Black Dog Animal Rescue. That project keeps me busy too.
      I’m thankful to be busy.

Jo, that group is so well organized for all they do in a bed building day in communities. I’m glad the kids have new fun pillowcases when they receive their beds. Sewing pillowcases does use up some yardage.
So many worthy projects to keep our minds and hands busy. I’ll never stop looking for causes I can give my skills to help. I’m glad to hear you keep on plugging along. I’m sure the girls at jail miss you coming in and it’s a shame they discontinued you sharing sewing skills with them. How else are people suppose to learn these skills that could provide a job for them if they aren’t taught.

I love seeing all the animals. I know that Mortie and Hazel keep you entertained. What a blessing for them and you. All the best wishes for Millie to feel better soon. My maple trees here in Georgia were so affected by our drought that so many of the leaves fell before turning color. I am missing looking for the most beautiful ones and taking photos. All the quilts are beautiful and so interesting. Thanks for another lovely post.

Great pictures. We got around 4 inches of wet snow yesterday. Good moisture. Glad it won’t stay around as it’s supposed to get in the 50’s-60’s next week in SE SD.
There is a Veterans Day program at our school on Tuesday. Our quilt guild is presenting 20 Veterans quilts!

No snow here yesterday. 23 this morning. Windy. But bright sunshine.

Loved all the quilts. I am home and wanting to dig into sewing. I worked on binding last night. My energy level was not good yesterday but I did put things away.

I have been to MSQC many times, Mary. We knew what we wanted or needed and had checked the daily deal. So picked up miscellaneous stuff and then headed for the upstairs where backings reside. I finally found a backing for a quilt I recently finished. I resisted everything else! The sad part favorite restaurant was not open. We ate at the Mexican on the edge of the four lane 36. First time and it was good.

I did visit a quilt shop in AR and another outside of Clinton, MO with a couple of small purchases.

      Fran,
I too have visited MSQC and was able to sit with Jennie in her sewing area before they remodeled that original store. Her husband and mine talked about our motor home parked down the street cause at the time there was limited street parking for something so large. I told her then it was like a kid at Disney world for me by going into every store and I think there were 7 then. I should have had a list of what I needed as I was overwhelmed. They were just building the men’s lounge area building then and I got to tour the retreat centers completed. It’s so much larger now from what I read.

I watched that Iowa-Oregon game yesterday. I thought Iowa was going to get the upset. All those shocked fans standing in the rain!! Indiana also had to come from behind to clench the win over Penn State. I had that game on silent while I listened to the Ohio-Purdue game. What a football day!!
What a lovely quilt by Connie. The colors are so cherry!
Your trees are beautiful. Thanks for sharing those pictures. We planted a Red Sunset maple in the backyard, as did our two neighbors. It’s beautiful, but I always wish they were all out front so everyone would see them. It has been a beautiful fall.
I love the be happy quilt!!

What beautiful pictures! I love this time of year, and I know I’m not alone. That quilt of Connie’s is really pretty. Might have to find that book!

Loved the pic of Connie’s quilt. I have always said that Connie has the best talent for putting colors and fabrics together. I remember madras plaid. Still like it and still have some. I just could never figure out what to do with it. This maple trees in front of your house are spectacular!

I hope Millie feels better soon. Great quilt pictures once again. Can’t wait till I can get into my sewing room and start quilting again. I haven’t sewn since the retreat I went to in September. I have a coat to make for my granddaughter and I will start it this week. We will be going to visit them for thanksgiving so it has to be done in time to take it with us.

I would love the pattern for Plaid Pines quilt.
I wonder if one can still get madras fabrics? I will have to search. Loved the pictures of your trees decked out in their fall finest!
I was in Clear Lake last week to visit the Red Geranium Floral store holiday open house.
What a wonderful store and the gals that work there are delightful!
I love hearing about Hazel as that was my dear mother’s name. She would have loved her too!

Great pictures and beautiful quilts! I hope Millie feels better soon; she is such a beauty.
Hazel and Mortie are quite the pair.
    Take Care, 🥰

Hi Mary, We are getting snow tomorrow and Monday, but it looks like just an inch or so. But, the weather is going to be much colder. I am going to a Quilt of Valor presentation on Monday at our local YMCA. It is a luncheon for 65 people. We spread the quilts along the walls and then, the recipients get to pick their quilt. It is really fun. They love getting their quilts and really appreciate them. Our QOV chairperson is wonderful and always has a few extras, just in case. Millie looks so much like Squeak, they could be from the same litter. Squeak is 14 now and showing her age some, but still loves to do the Zoomies around the house:) I love Connie’s quilt.

Hi Mary, the chair cover is lovely, is it a William Morris design? Lots of great quilts, plaids and soft colours are my favorites. Having some nice days now, my baby turns 45 on Tuesday, makes me feel old! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
