What a game! 10-25-24

Just finished watching the first game of the World Series with the unbelievable finish! Dodgers win! Very reminiscent of the Kurt Gibson home run in 1988 which I’ll never forget.

Didn’t get much done today because of going to get my Covid shot as well as pneumonia booster and RSV – I think I’m good now.

I’ve really appreciated the discussion about insomnia – I can tell I’m not alone!

Keeper and Finn had a great time in the dirt pile – too good!
This was Sam and me last Saturday. Not only Costco but we stopped at the antique mall.

All the quilts and doll clothes are so beautiful. My mom used to knit Barbie clothes for us 3 girls. I still have my Barbie but her name is Midge. She has red hair- bought for me because I have red hair. My husband and I went to Costco yesterday and didn’t take a cart, we needed milk and mushrooms. Walked out with that and box of chips to give out for Halloween and a box of chicken stock. The cashier laughed and said. Smart not to have a cart. You can’t buy too much. She’s right.

Cindy, I love the American Girl doll clothes you made for your granddaughter. Reminds me of my grandmother sewing doll clothes for me and my sister. And I had a neighbor who also sewed doll clothes for us. I played with my dolls up to seventh grade. Happier times.
Always impressed with all the quilts. I remember from Jo’s Country Junction that she knew of a man who would take quilted tops.. Then machine quilt them and donate them all. Something to think about, Patti.

thanks carolyn, i know about ray. however, my ‘angel’ group quilts the tops i make and they stay in my neighborhood. i did a write up recently about what we do. i started a longarm business in 1994 when my dd started kindergarten. a chronic ilness effectively shut me down eventually. i appreciate the suggestion though. patti in florida

I haven’t made doll clothes in ages… actually 50 years!! My great granddaughter is playing with Barbies and clothing that belonged to her great aunt!

These doll clothes are so cute!
I’m sorry to hear that I’m not the only one still trying to get to sleep at 1:30, 2:30… so annoying! I’m thinking it might be what I read at night… who knows, but it’s annoying!
Mary, I would suggest that you not get all those shot at one time! Friends that have done so have gotten sick…
Headed to a memorial for a sweet friend’s husband.

Sherri – too late! I got all the shots! I’m fine – what kind of “sick”?

        1. Mary Etherington Post author

Sherri – that’s too bad! My one arm is quite sore but only when I run into something with it – haha! That will be gone soon and now I don’t have to think about all those shots for a long while.

Those doll clothes are just so special! I still have some clothes my mom made for my Skipper doll. I loved them when she made them and still love them.
I’m moving aloes and packing for a trip to Iowa. We’re throwing a barbecue for the neighbors and the workers. Then we’ll be in Texas until spring. I’m bringing quilts to hang on the walls.
As for insomnia the only time I get it is when I’m on steroids or worried about a family member. I’m blessed with the ability to sleep almost anywhere and anytime. My mom and one sister don’t have that and I always feel for them.
The dogs remind me of little boys. Always mud and dirt to play in.

The doll clothes are just as sweet as can be, what a lucky granddaughter she is. I’m always shocked when I see the price of patterns today. Some of mine were under a dollar and I still have them. I missed all the talk about sleep issues, will have to look back and see what I missed. Love the Costco joke and its so true. It always amazes me what we end up spending when we go there. The chicken is a bargain. The fall colors are starting to fade here in Wisconsin and this morning we saw 9 turkeys in our backyard. They looked well fed.

Kim – most of the sleep chat was about NOT being able to sleep which I’m happy to find out I’m not alone.

Cindy, love the doll clothes! Such a nice job! I’m sure your granddaughter will love them! I just returned from a quilting retreat in Holmes County, OH & this was my year to drive. Since I live in SW Ohio it’s a 3.5 hr drive, but some of the girls live farther away. One girl flies in from Minnesota. And we have hotel reservations for same time next year!! The picture of the baby quilts is a project we took on for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. We completed the tops & they will add backing, no batting is used. We completed 18 little quilts. After that we started on our own projects. It was a fun & exhausting week & of course we helped keep the area quilt shops in business!! The picture of the parked car was at one of the restaurants. I watched him park that car & it wasn’t an angled parking spot!

alice, your baby quilts are grand. i think i got you confused with someone else. i’m sorry. you guys are doing a great service for the babies. thanks for doing that. patti in florida

Mary, I love your enthusiasm towards sports. You are a gem to enjoy watching most of them. I understand now why my cable bill has sports network charges cause it’s a pastime we can chose to enjoy and you sure do. Bless your heart being so devoted to them. I did see the ticker parade for the WNBA on the news.
The pictures on your blog always make my day. I love Patti’s quilt, the runner, Cindy’s doll clothes and the dogs being playful. It’s so nice we can all listen to each others viewpoints on sleeping and machines and decide for ourselves what we’re going to do about it.

Kathy – I love hearing from readers – including you. I’m worried about Betty in Rapid City.

I went to the doctor today and I had to park in a handicap spot as I have a tag and have to use a walker. A man pulled in next to me and as I was getting out my walker complained I hadn’t left him much space to get out of his car. I explained to him that he was parked in the access lane NOT A PARKING SPOT. He said he didn’t care as I could have moved over. Like how?
I just shrugged and went on my way he was still there when I returned I almost put a nasty sign on his window

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Angie – you SHOULD have put a nasty sign on his window! He didn’t care???? You should have told the receptionist and security. Makes me so mad to think you couldn’t even get your walker out because of that a…..e!

Boy can I relate to the Costco trip! 😂
I made the doll clothes for my granddaughters birthday. I hope she still has them when she’s my age!

    1. Kathy in western NY

Cindy- the doll clothes are adorable. I hope she does too hang onto them in case she has children to play with them as well. I treasure mine made by grandmas for my Barbies. Thank you for such happy pictures to begin my day.
I have my AG dolls still in their sundresses made from vintage tablecloths but this winter they will get some new nightgowns and Chatty Cathy’s are getting pjs. I’m so excited to sew doll clothes again. Thanks for sharing yours!

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Kathy – will you show us your dolls in their pjs around the Christmas tree?

        1. Kathy in western NY

I sure will !!! You played a role with the fabric choices. I don’t even feel bad admitting I still play with dolls by changing their clothes and setting up a scene.

  11. patti

wow. i’m impressed. someone has lots of patience to make those doll clothes. you did a marvelous job!!! ii had a skirt like a poodle skirt only made from poodle fabric. my mother made our clothes when i was young. 3 girls that wore the same clothes at the same time. once i learned to sew (in home ec, 9th grade), i got to make everyone’s clothes. she would hem them tho. loved all the small quilts laid out together also. such a nice variety. cute table runner.
my son said he knew of a little boy who could use the quilt today. i said great if i send it to you with a back and binding, it will still cost you over $100 to get it quilted and ready to give. he tries to understand but just doesn’t understand the frustration. if i could quilt it, i would quilt the one for my grandson, the one for my son, the one for mr. ed, and the one for me. then i’d quilt all these others that i make to donate, there are probably around 25 tops here for me to quilt – not counting any of the new ones from this year. that’s a whole ‘nother conundrum.
that joke about cell phones is so true. i refuse to be a prisoner of mine. i leave it on my kitchen table. if i’m not there, leave a message. my son lives on his phone. drives me crazy.
mr. slinky insisted on getting me up before 9 am today. so i’m going to bed and see if i can sleep. sweet dreams to all – with or without cbd. patti in florida

Someone is going to be lucky to receive the doll clothes. All of the little quilts are so cheerful.
