Whew! What a day! 4-1-22

Here is the scene at 9 am!

Here are some “before” photos.

By 1:00 we had hardly anything left to sell and we were very cold so we moved what little we had to the house.

I will finish tomorrow – too many more pictures to post tonight!

IT WAS A GREAT DAY!

Be still my heart ❤️ That birdhouse!!!!!!!! Love it, wish I was home now and I would have been there but my DH is scheduled for knee replacement next week or I would have been in Iowa this month.

  2. Sherrill

WOW!! I think I would’ve walked out substantially poorer than when I went in! So much great stuff there it would be extremely difficult to choose!

  3. Judy from Wisconsin

So happy you had a successful day. Looks wonderful! Wish I could have been there.

  4. Debbie Miller

So many goodies but SC is too far away from ya’ll to make the trip! I also had my second eye surgery in a month yesterday. If by any chance you found another of your cookbooks-save and let me know-I’ll definitely buy it! I wanted one so bad.

So happy for you!! Looks like a lot of wonderful things. I don’t need any more ‘stuff’ until I get rid of my storage unit!!! Would like a larger apartment but know that won’t happen.
Was home getting help with my slow computer and then we lost a dear friend this afternoon…she was a resident here. Quite a shock. We had our planned monthly Potluck tonight in her memory. The salad she made this morning was part of out supper. She had lived here longer than any other resident.

Beryl in Owatonna – what a shock for all her friends and family but what a great way to leave this world! So sorry for your loss.

  6. Diane, Squeak, and Buddy in Central Ohio

I’ll bet you and Connie are relieved to be almost finished and so happy you had a very successful sale! Wish I could have been there, too. How many people do you think were there? Rest and relax soon😀

You 2 did such a great job packaging the fabric in pleasing combos. So good to see you both and I am so glad the sale was a success. I enjoyed looking @ my purchases last night. Hope you get to put your feet up today!

awww. I was visiting with my sister about your sale. She and I still remember visiting your shop on a treacherous winter day on our way to Minneapolis years back. She still uses a tote bag pattern she got at your shop. Think of all the fond memories you have made for folks. What do people do that don’t sew???!

Mary H – I often wonder the same thing – do they just sit and watch tv?

  7. Lynette in Orlando

So very glad you had a successful selling day! Sorry to hear the weather was so frigid!!! Wish I was closer as I would have been one more shopper. 🙂

  8. Kathy Hanson

What a wonderful event! It was so well organized and everyone was gracious. And beside all that there was delicious popcorn from an old fashioned popcorn machine that Mary was making popcorn in!! I was so glad that we came. I got some great fabrics for my daughter who is making a “Dear Jane” quilt. It was wonderful!!!

  9. Gayle in Tennessee

Looks like a great sale! Wish I lived closer and could have attended. So glad it all went well.

  10. Susan

So many wonderful treasures…I’m so jealous of all your shoppers…lol…a kid in a candy store is all I can say! So happy for you that your sale was a huge success!

  11. Kathy in western NY

Lucky those who shopped and give homes to all of yours and Connie’s goodies. Has to make you feel good your sale was successful because of your quality. Love your sign on the chair as it’s no fun being cold to the bone. Rest tonight after a successful sale.

  12. Kimberly Lusin

So happy that you had a successful sale in spite of the cold weather! If I lived closer I would have been there.

  13. Angie from Baltimore

I am so envious there were several things in the pictures I would have fought over. I am glad you had a great day.
Get warm and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

  14. Sue In Oregon

What a fabulous sale! Just the kind I love. Wow. And, to think, it was nearly gone by noon. You two must have been too busy to look up. Did you have anyone else to help you? They are always such a madhouse in the beginning. Congrats on a great sale. Oh…and thanks for the wonderful photos.

  15. Mrs. Goodneedle

Holt Cow! What a mob had already gathered! You had so many treasures for sale, I’m sure everyone left happy with their haul; such a unique opportunity. I can only imagine how tired you were at the end of the day. But, a “good” tired, as they say.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Mrs. Goodneedle – I told the crowd in the garage what you said – WEAR WARM CLOTHES! They laughed!!

  16. Dorothy

Oh my, wish I lived close. Would have been there in a heartbeat. I’m sure you are both in need of a rest today. May have to plan a road trip next year!

  17. Tanya T. in Houston

SO MUCH FUN! Seeing the pictures was almost like being there! I had no doubt that your sale would be a success! Having supper inside in the warm was probably even MORE fun!

  18. Marcella from Il

There was some girls who loved to sew! I have to congratulate you both again for giving so much to the quilting world. I have enjoyed seeing your quilts and displays for many years. I was able to visit your shop several times. Those shopping adventures were the best!! I know letting your collections go probably makes some sadness but you will feel lighter and more encouraged for the days ahead. Good luck to Connie with her move. I can only imagine how wonderful her new sewing space will be.

  19. Jan Smith

Wow, I would love to have been there! And Mary, I love your toasty warm looking coat.

  20. Kris in WI

I am so hoping that my favorite pieces (as seen in the pictures) found loving homes. Sighs from a snowy WI and prayers that Connie’s move will go well. Thanks for the long distance look at the sale!

  21. Sheila in WI

Wow! Looks like it was a busy, fun day. Except for the weather, it sounds like your sale went very well. Ahh! The sweet smell of success!

  22. Margaret in North Texas

Looks like you had some very eager shoppers. What a crowd and a successful sale, items mostly gone by noon the first day! In spite of a cold day.

  23. Beryl BC

Thanks for the pictures of the sale. It would have been a good to come to, if I lived closer. But then, I really don’t need much else in my sewing room. It’s good you did so well.

  24. Jo in Wyoming

It looks like you had a wonderful day. Selling stuff, seeing friends and down sizing. Being able to “let go” is so hard to do. You both did it with grace, dignity and had fun.
    Miller time!

  25. Jo in Wyoming

Ps…what a tremendous amount of work you both put into organizing such a sale. The boxes tied up…great idea.

  26. Betty Klosterman

Thank you, Mary. Really love looking at everything over and over again. In the 6th picture down, what is the big black thing on the top shelf? My curiosity is bugging me.
Knew you would have a very HAPPY sale. Sure everybody had tons of smiles. Sorry, I couldn’t see what was packaged so neatly in the boxes – probably fabrics!!! It’s alright as I really don’t need more fabric either?
Enjoy today, a day of rest. The wind is really blowing, temp about 50, but cold with the wind.
Take care. Betty in Rapid City

Betty – I think that was the mower attachment for a bagger but I’ll ask for sure. Connie has lots less to move now but it will still be a big job
