Windy Monday, 3-17-25

Another windy day and more ahead. Hank came for a play date with Keeper. They were so glad to see each other again!

Trying to straighten up the sewing room – I had help.

My huge snake plant is blooming again!

Harvey!

Have you ever dusted your windows? My south windows were spotted with dirt after the storm last week and a quick wipe with a dry SWIFFER duster gave me nearly sparkling windows again – I can’t believe it.

See all those spots?

This isn’t exactly newsworthy but I hated to start washing windows knowing we have another snowstorm coming but in about 15 minutes my windows were almost sparkling again. I’m easily pleased with the small things – ha!

Remember the charm pack? I’ll save the details for tomorrow when I will probably finish but I have the rows made.

I got this far tonight.

There are definitely some important steps with this wedge template. I’ll write it all up for tomorrow. FYI – I got the small wedge template from Missouri Star.

Teresa – the SWIFFER won’t work on my dirty windows after this last storm – this time they’ll need a real washing!

We are lucky we don’t get the dirt you get on the windows. Also meant to say I had no idea that a snake plant bloomed. My son’s snake plant keeps sending up more and more new plants but never bloomed. I unfortunately have a house that faces north and doesn’t get a lot of light and where we do get light wouldn’t be convenient for a plant. Though I know a snake plant is good for lower light areas. I just have 2 indoor plants and keep my gardening to the outside.

Marcia, that is an outstanding accomplishment for your granddaughter. I would be impressed enough by her accomplishment in front of such a crowd under pressure, but hearing how she got to that point is even more impressive although I’m sorry she had to endure that. She sounds like a very special girl.

Sharon, thank you for letting us know about Donna Jordan. I hadn’t seen that and am shocked and saddened. She had such bright, positive energy in her videos–I really enjoyed them! What a loss for her family and the quilting world.

Congratulations to the girl who beat the bullies AND won a scholarship! She won’t let life get her down!!

I live on a very busy east-west street and the wind is normally out of the northwest. And we have a lot of wind. Sometimes my picture window is covered on the outside with mud from the cars on the street. I just wait for a good rain or snow storm to wash them. As for the Swifter and my German grandmother and not wasting anything, I cut up 10 X 10 pieces of polar fleece and use them to dust my linoleum floors. My niece uses hers for cleaning the walls.

As for the results of our snow storm, again we were on the edge of the front. The temp was 38 so we got a very light rain and snow which melted the minute it hit something. The streets are wet and may freeze tonight. Wyoming and Montana really got the storm. The higher elevations like Deadwood and Lead got lots, too. I think there is another storm on the way, but we will have to wait and see what it will do. We REALLY need the moisture. We can get some very interesting spring storms in March, April and May so we will just have to cross our fingers and hope. I looked at the yard and it is green. I’m looking for my first robin…..

Harvey is all ready for Easter looking very spiffy. During the pandemic, I sent the tall Harvey to my niece and her grandson asked if he could sleep with him. My answer was ‘I think Harvey would like that.’

Chin up, everybody. Spring isn’t far behind.

    Cheers for Marcia’s granddaughter!!
A book series I’ve enjoyed is by Patrick Taylor about a country Irish doctor. A few years back I made reading each successive installment a March St. Patrick’s tradition. Humor, interesting characters, well-written – all are attributes that kept me coming back to the village of Ballybucklebo. The penultimate book is this week’s reading. The last installment has a Christmas theme, so will check it out from the library in November to enjoy it for Christmas.
Mary, your March Madness quilt looks awesome. So does the one from yesterday with the sashings and cornerstones. I think next year I should start my own. It would sure help me lower my scrap stash! Since I won’t have my aforementioned reading to look forward to in March next year, this sounds like a fun alternative.
Speaking of March Madness – go Iowa State! Go Grand Canyon University! And yes, go Arizona! (although the rival to ASU – my Alma Mater)
Don’t get blown away with this next storm all of you in it’s path. March sure has roared in like a lion this year.

Love the Swiffer idea, will have to try it on my windows. At least the first floor ones! Marcia, that is so exciting that your granddaughter won a scholarship and the chance to do the shootout at last night’s game! I can’t believe her coach let her be bullied like that the prior year, that’s so sad. I’m glad she stuck with the game and is doing so well! Keeper and Hank, they are just so fun together! We had lots of rain the last two days and now the sun is trying to come out. Jan in MA

Jan – I did say the Swiffer was dry, didn’t I? Or else I would have made pure mud!

  5. Hank's Mom

I echo everyone else’s responses to the swiffer on windows. GREAT IDEA!!! I’m going to try it tonight after work. And Hank was TIRED when he got home from Mary’s. First evening since we got home on Friday that he crawled up in the chair with me and slept for an hour. (My favorite habit of Hank’s)

March Madness begins tonight at University of Dayton. My 12 year old granddaughter will be doing a shootout at halftime in front of 13,000.. She qualified on Sunday at Wright State by winning her age group 7th/8th grade girls category. She won an IPad and 4 years college tuition at Wright State University(~$50,000)🎉🎉 The sidebar to this is she was bullied on her 7th grade basketball team because she was an outsider to the ‘clique’. Karma to them and the coach that let it happen.

Congratulations to your granddaughter. What a great accomplishment!
Harvey is looking good. Looking forward to seeing your quilt tomorrow.

Marcia- congratulations indeed to a well accomplished granddaughter. She pushed ahead despite being so mistreated and look at her holding her head high with a full scholarship.

Marcia – what an accomplishment after being bullied! I hope those girls got what was coming to them

I’m so excited about the swiffer cleaning the windows! I was looking at them yesterday and wanting them clean but not wanting to do it for the same reason you said…..more dirty snow coming. I’m going to give it a try when I get off work today. I picked up a huge pile of sticks the other day and hardly made a dent in the mess. I would imagine I’ll have to do it again so I don’t feel too bad about barely getting started.

Mary – Thanks for the blog about nothing. Keeper is a beauty. So glad he has Hank for a friend.

Not sure if commenters know about this, but thought I’d let you know that Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics in Grants Pass, Oregon sadly passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025. Donna did wonderful videos. Her husband Matt was in the business as well. Matt posted a short celebration of life at the end of Donna’s last video. It sounds like the business will continue on.

    Take care everyone.

Sharon, thanks for letting us know as I get her emails but hadn’t opened the newest one yet today. So I watched it and cried at the ending with her husband sharing the news. I liked her energy and enthusiasm for the simplistic patterns as I started watching her videos during Covid. It sounds like a strong family unit that will carry her legacy on for awhile.

After this latest storm everything was covered with red dirt/dust and we couldn’t figure out where red dirt would come from. Our nephew told us this last storm coming from the south was carrying red dirt from Texas and left a trail of red on cars, windows etc. Mystery solved.
Keeper looks like he’s smiling at Hank!!

The swiffer also does a great damp dust of walls and I have some of those old towels cut up to do a dry dustmop on floors. Curious to know if the snake aka MIL Tongue plant has other colored blossoms.

  11. Cindy K

Using a swiffer to clean dust off of windows is a great idea. I’ll have to try it tomorrow as the high winds and sprinkle of rain left mine covered in dirt.
