World Series, 10-27-25

It’s the top of the 12th and the score is 5-5. What a great game!!

Trying to get into Garner is next to impossible because of road construction and I’m having to drive Red because my van is in the body shop – that’s another story – and I don’t drive Red on gravel. Sigh. It took me 25 minutes to go 4 miles with pilot cars and big gaps between lines of cars. If you hit the pilot car just right you’re lucky.

First quilt age 8

Someone asked what thimble I finally chose – I think this is the one that fits me the best but I haven’t done much hand sewing or binding for awhile.

This game is lasting past my bedtime!

Mortie has the sweetest little face! She hit the JackPot when she arrived at your home! 💜 That pumpkin with braces made me laugh, so clever!
That World Series game was fantastic, love when I see a great ball game, sorry that the Dodgers won it.
    Go Blue Jays!
Make this day one that is filled with JOY!

I love those thimbles. They are the only ones that will stay on me. I have two and wouldn’t mind another. Mortie has a darling face.

Hi Mary- Thanks for the great pictures! Mortie is completely adorable and the pumpkin with the braces is extremely clever. Loved it.

I didn’t stay up to watch the game either. 18 innings – Whew!
Pumpkin with braces is so clever. I’m sending the photo to my daughters, who both wore braces, as did I. But, when I did each tooth had a silver sleeve around it, not just attached in the front.
First quilt at age 8 – well done on many levels!

Nice pic of Mortie – I just became the permanent caretaker of an orange cat named Pumpkin (the name may be changed, but who knows?). He is very friendly and a real “talker”. He is mostly outside (we’re very rural) and I hope he takes it upon himself to manage the chipmunk population. He is also a tick magnet – his previous family was treating him and said they still had to remove ticks from him. I don’t know what they were using, but I got some reliable treatment and applied it this morning because I had to remove 2 from him Sunday night – they appeared engorged in a matter of a few hours!
The jack-o-lantern with braces made me chuckle out loud… too cute!

Gail – I use Revolution on my dogs and it works great. Poor Pumpkin! Thank you for helping him –

Morti is adorable! Loved the Pumpkin with braces- my grandchildren can relate. What a lovely first quilt for an eight year old. Poor “Red” traveling on gravel.; I feel your pain. Tar & chip is a popular road fix here in PA. Years ago I was taking a friend and her son home from boy scout summer day camp. Her road had been treated while were were gone. She wanted to be dropped off and walk but I couldn’t do that so our new car ended up with a tar and chip mess all around the bottom.
So many choices to watch on Monday night – hubby likes FBI series; we kept switching over to Football (Chiefs vs Commanders). Totally forgot about the World Series until it was almost time for bed, I wouldn’t make it to 9 innings-ha! (our two sons once took us to a Phillies game that lasted 19 innings. As the night wore on, fans in the nosebleed seats migrated down to the lower level; cheers and chants could be better heard across the field. One son had to leave because of work the next day, but three of us lasted into the we hours of the morning. We took the train, then walked many blocks back to their apartment. The game was in “Encore Replay” on TV when we retired for the night. Funny thing- it was still on when we had our morning cup of coffee!) I did check the World Series score when I got up during the night – it was tie in the 11th inning so I was glad I didn’t try to stay up, never dreaming it would go 18 innings!

Henners – flagmen stop cars on either side of the active construction where there’s only one lane. Then the pilot car leads the line of cars thru the construction zone while the opposite side waits. Then the pilot car turns around and leads the opposite line of cars to the other end. Cars back up dozens at a time making it a very slow process. And today it’s raining so the road workers are probably not even working adding more time to the whole process.

That photo of Mortie is like looking into her soul. It is hard to believe that she came to you in such a way and it is like she is so comfortable with you. Someone must have loved her for her to be so tame. My son has worked with so many feral cats, and it takes forever to get the least bit close to them. For sure, someone loved her, and It must have been hard to let her go. I love her = and you!

Brenda – Mortie has become so precious to me, now I can’t imagine how bored I’d be without her!

Love the pumpkin picture and Mortie couldn’t be cuter!! The first quilt by an 8 year – wow, just wow.

I don’t know how you stay up so late. I’ve got a routine bedtime and I stick to it regularly. Back in the day, I used to all night quilt sew-ins. It was so much fun and the stories that got told never failed. But, today, I’m sure I wouldn’t make it to midnight.

I don’t know how you stayed awake, must be because you kept your hands and mind busy. Love the picture of Mortie, so cute. Mary I use that thimble also when doing hand work. Nice quilt for an eight year old to start with. Simple but a lot of learning going on also.
Yesterday spent the morning cleaning up the shed and sweeping all the Asian Beetles up. Hubby also cleaned the gutters on the shed. Bagged some pine needles to start fires in the burn ring during the winter and then cut up some fabrics for a HALLOWEEN sampler I want to make. Many small pieces in them. Kept falling asleep trying to read. Must be trying to catch up from the 3 days of cutting down 8 trees at my sister’s.

Rita – wow, I wish we could cut down trees! We have so many dead ash trees!!!

I love the pumpkin with braces. so cute. And of course I’m in love with Mortie. What a sweet picture.

I’m watching the World Series too. It is 2:30 am here in NH. I want to go to bed but I’ve put this much time into it, I want to see the end. My husband has gone to be and I’m working on a cross stitch project. Just went to the 18th. Ugh. I’ll be good for nothing tomorrow!

    1. Kathy in western NY

Nadine – And I’m sure my grandson was up that late watching it all too so he’ll be no good at work! How many people will be falling asleep on their jobs cause I know a lot sure enjoy the World Series.
Mary I use that same tumble and you captured the sweet Mortie so well in that picture.

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Nadine – I, too, had way too much invested in that game to give up! But I slept too late and now I have to hurry to meet Becky for lunch.

  12. Deb in Japan

    Mary,
It was me who asked about the thimble (but there may also be others). I’ll look for it next time I’m in Kyoto – my favorite place to shop for fabrics and notions here in Japan. The series is still tied in the 14th. They are showing it on TV here in Japan because of the Japanese players on the Dodgers team.

  13. Charlotte in No. California

15th inning now. Very late in Iowa! I’m in northern California and we are not Dodger fans in SF Bay area.
The jack-o- lantern with braces is too cute.

  14. Pauline

I use those thimbles! It fits around the fat arthritis knuckles, and actually grips. And I can use it on another finger, depending on pain and swelling.
Love the pumpkin with braces! My 13 year old granddaughter has coloured braces, and doesn’t mind them so much after nearly a year of them – 2 more years of treatment to go.

The “first quilt” made by an 8-year-old, is precious. Much thought and care went into the production.
    Morti is so cute.
    Take Care 🥰
