A Stressful Day, 4-7-21

Telly has not been eating her favorite food for several days now. As Rick and I talked we realized she had thrown up several times, too, and yesterday she was panting so I called the vet. Our vet is VERY busy and I could not make an appointment for today – my only option was to take her there and leave her for the day and they would see her when they could.

The afternoon got late and I started calling the vet clinic because I was so afraid they’d say they needed to keep her overnight. I could not get through on the phone! Come to find out Rick had called and they told him they would need to keep her overnight. I was furious! I would have taken her back tomorrow morning if I needed to but by then the decision was made and I was reminded of Faye also being there at the clinic for several days and nights and I swore I’d never leave another dog there again.

Poor Telly! I am worried. I’ll report tomorrow.

I’m sorry, Mary. I always hate it when they are away from home, and when there are echoes of previous worries. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Praying Telly starts feeling better soon and will be back home tomorrow. It is such a tough time when our furbabies are under the weather. Prayers of comfort for you.

  10. Luci

Bless Telly. I know how you feel about leaving her overnight. My psyche does not like hospital alone time. Why should hers? I hope everything turns out for the positive. Prayers and hugs to both of you.

Iโ€™ve never seen Tellyโ€™s face up close like that picture. What a great face! Iโ€™m with you about not wanting to leave dogs overnight at the vet. I hope they see Telly and call you to come back ASAP. Thinking of you both at a hard time…

I am praying for Telly, poor baby, but I have gone through the same situation with a couple of my puppies and the worry and anxiety is horrible, waiting and not knowing. And puppies can’t tell you what’s wrong, that is most upsetting. I hope she is ok, just some tummy upset. Love to Telly

One of our terrier mix dogs has vomited 3 times since last week so we are monitoring ours carefully but she is playing and sleeping normal otherwise.
We are hoping it is because we gave her too much ham and a cold cut nibble.
Maybe her tummy canโ€™t take table scraps anymore so we will be in your same shoes going to the vets if anymore incidents. It might mean a switch of food for Telly. We needed to do that to one of our rescues who could not tolerate chicken any longer and walked away from his normal food too. Keep the faith Mary – I do feel your same anxious moments as I am feeling it too.

I hope Telly gets to feeling better!
Recently I had an issue with our cat. He would not eat his favorite food (that he has been eating for almost 3 years)… and also threw up 3 times in one day (which is very unusual for him)… long story short… it was his food that was making him sick! We stopped that food and started something else and he has been fine.
The food was “Royal Canin” brand, the dry variety.
Our local pet store said that many pet food manufacturers have been having issues with supply because of COVID. So, I guess they either substitute ingredients or whatever…. but I will not buy Royal Canin brand food ever again.
I hope your Telly’s problem is as simple as a food change and nothing worse… hugs!

Sharon B – wow! I hope Telly โ€˜s problem is her food and nothing more.

Oh dear, I remember having to leave each of my 2 kitties overnight at the vet’s various times, it’s soooo stressful. But hopefully they will figure out what’s wrong and send her back in much better shape!

Thinking of you and Telly … such a pretty dog, and clearly Hazel’s good buddy.

I have raised beagles for over 50 years. Never have had a beagle refuse food except when they are ill and it scares me if they do. There have been several times when well known dog food manufacturers have had production/supply issues that have resulted in the deaths of some dogs. I have fed the same brand of dog food for the last 35 years. The dog food is not usually the culprit, but is the table treats that get added in to their diet. I am as guilty as the next of feeding a treat when I end my meal. I have a five year old female, Molly, who throws up periodically, and we haven’t been able to identify what is causing it. Her mother, Dora, never throws up, Molly is very active and healthy otherwise. Hope Telly is home today and feeling better.

I know a lot of Vet Clinics have been overwhelmed during the pandemic, as people have been home and more cognizant of what is going on in their pet’s life. This has been good for the pet’s whose problems may have gone on longer and gotten worse before medical attention has been asked for. Hope you were able to get some rest last night.

Several years ago my precious Maggie had to spend a few nights in doggy ER. They allowed visitors twice a day. I remember not being able to sleep so went over to the hospital and crawled into the kennel with her. She was refusing to eat but I was able to feed her by hand. Turns out she had Addisonโ€™s disease, treatable with meds. Hang in there and be still
