Incredible! Impossible! Unbelievable! And simply heart stopping! Mullins’ shot from the logo won the game in a shocking ending which no one could believe – even the announcers and the analysts. I remember Christian Laetner’s shot for Duke 36 years ago which won the game – I remember exactly where I was standing and with whom.
So for you non enthusiasts of March Madness I apologize for my complete absorption in these games. They’ll be over soon and I’ll be back to my normal life – sewing, animals, yard work, chores and thrifting which is what you want to hear about – not basketball! Haha!!!
When March Madness is over I can put away Bitcoin – I hate my colors and I’m just generally sick of it.
Church friend Kathy brought her granddog named Bentley to visit today – I was hoping Hazel would like chasing and playing with him but they were both sorta ho-hum about it all. Isn’t he cute? He’s a mini-Bernedoodle.

So it’s goodbye to the corn husk garland on the rail.

Now it’s just a wait for the geraniums! I saved the ears of corn and tossed them through the grove for wildlife.

Remember these little 3” blocks? My e I should work on those?

Or something with these low volume prints which I love?

Connie and Roy are heading home from Sanibel Island starting tomorrow. I told her if they hurried they might get to see the second snow on the robins!
This is an old scrapbook made by some old housewife with household hints – some are so funny. Here’s a page just so you can see how much work she went to:

Here’s a couple for example:
Clean your Christmas candles with a cloth dampened in alcohol.
Slice cream cheese with a piece of white thread. Even thin slices won’t crumble.
If you have difficulty in getting sonny boy to wash his neck and behind his ears, try giving him an old shaving brush and let him apply the soap.
Are there any rug hookers in this group? This hint actually made a lot of sense to me:
Remove the top from an old card table to make a frame for a hooked rug. Tack the rug to the frame with thumb tacks. If the rug is longer than the table top, move it as you work. To put the rug away when you’re not working on it, just fold up the legs of the card table and slip it into a closet.
To prevent milk from boiling over when heated, rub the rim of the saucepan with butter.
That’s just a sample – some are hilarious!!

You posted the Connetecut College game from last night. My grandson is a starter defense man—#21– on that team. I watch all the games. Thanks;—Jane
Jane -is it Eric? Wow! How fun for your whole family!!!!
Sharon, so sorry for the loss of your sibling. What an accomplished gal! Your life has been richer with her in it. What a blessing she has been to the family and the world around her.
Every year I look forward to March Madness because you never know what stunning moments will happen – like that midcourt shot. I’m rooting for Arizona, although it’s a rival school to my Alma Mater. Still, it’s a school in Arizona. The games have been a wonderful mental and emotional break from the daily events.
Teresa, cute quilt. 🙂 I always enjoy the quilt parade on Mary’s blog.
Happy stitching all. Happy Easter!!
Thank you Jan. I gifted the quilt to my niece for her first baby. It’s a cute pattern, designed by a company called Art East Quilting located in Nova Scotia Canada. My niece had a baby girl, which in our family is rare. She is only the fourth girl born out of a total of 14 grand and great grand kids.
That end of game shot was definitely AMAZING! Both my husband and I screamed and shouted our hoorays for that shot, especially since it was a Hoosier boy making that shot! (I’m from Indiana). Indiana used to have really great March Madness high school games before they went to the class system. That RUINED the whole madness for many people across the state. That scrapbook is amazing. Can’t wait to hear more about its contents.
I’m not necessarily a UConn fan but that finish was nothing short of AMAZING!!! I live in Southern IL so this weekend I’ll be rooting against UConn since the Illini will be playing them. Wonder how all this will play out!
I loved the scrapbook. I think it is amazing that it has lasted this long. A real treasure! It reminds me of the book I’m currently reading about housewives in the 60’s called Book Club for Troublesome Women. I haven’t made a bitcoin quilt but I sure have enough fabric scraps.
I just love the scrapbook of helpful hints. My daughter lives in Connecticut so we are UConn fans. And the girls team will be playing too! Double the fun.
Thoroughly enjoyed the tips from the scrapbook.
Even though I am not a big fan of basketball I do enjoy your posts about it. Since we live outside of Raleigh, Duke and UNC are big deals every winter and spring.
Laurie – well, thanks for being a good sport about my obsession of March Madness! It’s almost over – for another year😪
That scrapbook magazine must be wonderful! Thank you for letting us read snippets.
I am an Illini fan, and it’s been fun to watch a couple of games this year, especially since they haven’t gone so far in many years.
Erin – I have relatives and friends in Illinois so I’m cheering for them.
UConn fan here!! Both daughters graduated from UConn ! They’d tell stories of how the guys in their classes needed two chairs or being in line at Dunkin behind Jim Calhoun and Geno Auriemma.
Very exciting games last Sunday.
Marilyn – you’ve got to be enjoying this series!!! I’ll bet I’ve watched that Mullins shot 50 times by now!
This scrapbook would be such a treat to read.
The UConn shot by Mullin was unbelievable .
I was watching and loved it, even tho I’m a Duke fan!!
Hello Mary! I enjoyed reading today’s comments. I have been working on my D.D.S. as well, also working on straightening up in my sewing area as well. My hubby and I worked outside last week picking up sticks and corn husks that blew in from a nearby field. Then he mowed picking up leaves. It will need to be done again when the winds blow more junk in. My tulips and naked ladies are sprouting. I better cut the grasses too, they are starting to break off and cause litter in the yard as well. Soon we will get the birdbaths out of the garden shed. I am hoping for a pain-free day today. Thursday is a follow-up day with snow in the forecast. Hope it is warmer so it rains instead of snowing. Another new month approaching so I better get busy sewing to catch up and get current on the DD! Have a good day today!
Cynthia – my yard is a mess, too, and every year at this time it’s ugly and I always wonder if it will ever look good again – and it always does actually.
This is one of my favorite times of the year! College basketball (men or women) is so much fun to watch! The UConn win was one for the ages, for sure. Did you see the story of the fan who was so excited he leaped in the air and tore his Achilles tendon? Ouch!
Meredith – NO! I didn’t read that – oh, for heavens sake – the announcers reactions were priceless. What will be fun to watch when this is over? Nothing.🙁
Mary I absolutely love your passion for March Madness!!!! I have good friends from church that the entire family is crazy about it as well. It’s great to see from grandchildren to grandparents. Right now grandpa is winning!
I think we’ve all had quilts we’ve had to put in what I call “quilt time out” – I had one once that made me rip my hair out. I don’t really have ufo’s – I am rather obsessed with finishing one before I start another but this one I had to walk away for quite a while. Finally got it finished.
The book made me chuckle — years ago a friend and I were thrifting and we found a book if I remember correctly from the 40’s or 50’s — was about being a good wife. Example — before your husband gets home from work brush your hair, fix your makeup and look more presentable. Greet him as he comes in the door. We got a good laugh over many of the recommendations, but if you think about it, some were pretty good advice.
Mary,
I felt the exact same way about my Bitcoin several times and I put it away several times. But this last time that I worked on it and finally put it all together, I loved it. I used every kind of scrap strip that I had of every color (brights, darks, solids, plaids, etc.) Its a labor of love, for sure!
Mary – Sunday morning my older sister passed away. She would have been 80 in November. She tried to come back from a massive stroke last September, but she didn’t make it. She was an incredible person who lived a very creative life. She sewed, she quilted, she did stamping up and made the most beautiful cards, for a while she had her own ceramic shop and kiln, and on top of all of that and working full time, living on a 4-acre farm, and raising two children and a grandson, , she was a Mary Kay consultant.
There are no words. She was much loved. And she will be missed!
Take care everyone.
Oh, Sharon!!!! Not another death in your family! I am so very sorry / she sounds like a lovely accomplished woman and you’ve had your share of losses. You poor girl.
I’m so very sorry Sharon. The loss of a sibling is huge. She sounds like a wonderful woman…. Prayers for you and the rest of her family.
Sharon, I am so very sorry that your sister has passed. It leaves us with such a hole in our hearts – but keep her there and she will always be with you.
The scrapbook reminds me of my grandmother. She had notebooks that she had filled with poems she had cut from the newspaper. I had my 6 month checkup with my GP today. He was pleasantly surprised with the range of motion I had with my shoulder after shoulder replacement last November 10th. Hope the meds help with your shoulder pain. I
Judy – congratulations on your great checkup!
Hi Mary,
My husband and I are faithful UConn basketball fans ( Men’s and Women’s). Our daughter and grandson are alumni and my husband took classes there, too. We were stunned and delighted at the finish of the Duke game for sure. I call them “my boys and my girls” and I really love to get to know their personal stories. I am actually working on a UFO afghan during the commercial time outs and half times, ha! It’s my DD for March! I better hustle up as the season will be over soon. My husband was born and raised in Illinois and UConn men play them in the final four but we will still root for UConn as we have lived here for the last 48 years. I enjoy your comments on the games. Another interest we have in common. Wishing you good health! Go Huskies!!
Bonnie – I’ll bet I’ve watched that final shot T LEAST 40 times on assorted reels with different announcers and fans and I love it every single time!! He was on morning tv – can’t remember which network. The rest of the games will be boring after this – haha!
Oh, my goodness. That could be my Grandma’s scrapbook. We absolutely LOVED reading through all of the things she cut out of the newspaper and magazines. I’m betting my Mom still has those scrapbooks. I will have to ask when I am next back to visit.
Yes, I’m a UConn fan, especially the women. Have been watching games for the entire season. My daughter and granddaughter are on a Mediterranean cruise right now and she was able to listen to the women’s game. She even packed her UConn coffee mug and UConn tee shirts. It’s so exciting that both men and women have made it to the final four. Go UConn!!!
Diane- it’s so fun to read these old articles! We could learn a lot really!
