Cleaning Day, 3-3-26

When it’s Angela’s day to clean I try to pitch in, too, getting things picked up around the house – oh, boy, does it look great tonight.

Tomorrow is April 1 – Dirty Dozen Day but to fend off all of you who will pepper me with “what’s the number?” all day, here it is……..10. TEN

I posted this picture last night. Rose showed me hers awhile back – blocks are 3”.

My friend Rose did a Terry Rowland Challenge with only 1-1/2” strips! Isn’t it beautiful?

Another one from Rose – 4 – 3” blocks together.

Here’s the recipe:

So if YOU would like to make these blocks, let us all see what they look like. I’m not a lover of 30’s fabrics but I have so much of it I want to use some – the block uses so little fabric however!!

Errands tomorrow at the farm store – and a stop at the thrift store again. Can’t wait to see what I find!

Two great quilts from Vicki

Love it!!

I love having a cleaning lady. I pick up a lot before she gets here, I figure I pay her to clean, not pick up!
My outside handyman came by yesterday. He fixed the drip system on my trees, showed me how to control one zone at a time, and will come back on his days off and replace fence rails. What a wonderful person.
I took a little trip last week to Ft. Collins, Colorado, about 50 miles from me. There is a cooking store that’s fabulous. Such pretty things for Easter. I could replace everything in my kitchen, but I won’t. Then to the quilting store. I hadn’t been there for so long, the owner, Laura, gave me a big hug. She has the most wonderful fabric. Of course I came home with way tooooooo much.
The quilt parade today is fantastic. Always inspiring.
Easter is coming very quickly. I hope you all have a blessed day with family and friends.

Love, love, love those 1930’s fabrics! And, especially your work and Rose’s quilts with the tiny blocks! A church friend gifted me a good many scraps recently and I am so motivated by this work. I can hardly wait to start! My ironing board is already set up…

I have been downtown for a few great days at the 2026 Texas Library Association conference. So many books, so little time! Ha! So many school libraries are in trouble across our nation. It’s important to study their problems and be a part of the solutions. For the future of reading in our country, talk with your local school and public librarians about their challenges. Learning to read is one thing, learning to love to read is different! (Sorry, I will get off my soap box!)

Tanya – I’m thrilled that you’re inspired – you should also look at The Last Homely House – Kate made this quilt, too. Just a thought about loving to read – I just LOVE to read but I was the firstborn and Mom read to me a lot – I still have some of those old books. Becky was the 3rd sibling and I don’t think Mom had time to read to her and to this day, she doesn’t like to read. There’s a moral lesson here, don’t you think?

Wow the first quilt of Rose’s is a beauty. I haven’t had any sewing time for a week now. A little finishing to the window frame and painting the sill pushed my tables all back and once again it was a mess in my sewing room. We are back in business now and I have a queen size chicken quilt to quilt. It is my #10. I’m off to a quilt retreat at Harrison Hot Springs in a week, starts Thursday then back home Sunday. I’m hoping to take my chicken quilt so I can hand sew the binding on, so I better get busy! I also need to see what projects I have to take with me and start organizing that. I can’t believe it’s the first of April already.

Getting the stuff all picked up before the cleaner can be a project. Especially my counter top! Haaha. Yesterday I had coffee with a friend and then in the afternoon made pumpkin bread. Now my kitchen is still a mess. Ugh!
Well, the kids from Michigan are suppose to come on Friday for jays birthday. It is Not nice weather at all for traveling, or for playing outside. I do home we get some moisture!
I haven’t been in my sewing room all week!

I love Vicki’s quilts and certainly Rose’s. I look at it and know the hours spent behind the sewing machine; Unfortunately my skills are buying the fabric and cutting it out. The hours of sewing seem to overwhelm me, I havre quite a few in my sewing room cut out but unfinished. The quilts on the blog today make me want to change my ways! There’s nothing like having your house clean all at the same time. We have a company where we live of mostly people from Brazil. They come in like a white tornado and when they leave it’s although a miracle has taken place. A great peace settles over us for awhile.

Pat – my strength is the piecing – I hate cutting out and putting blocks together! Haha!! I don’t even buy the fabric because I have too much – I love sitting at the machine with a ballgame playing on the tv and send the pieces thru!! Haha!!

Can’t wait to see your thrift store finds! I love browsing thru thrift places- so many treasures. Nothing like a clean house! I’m searching for a new person – find someone who has attention to detail is tricky! Have a good Wednesday everyone 😊
