Just home from church – always a small crowd for this very solemn but meaningful service. Dental appointment today and more cleaning in the quilt shop. Found a red, white and blue jelly roll that I think I’ll work on – just a simple strip quilt. Since I’m having so much trouble sleeping, I want something easy to work on in the middle of the night. Don’t make me think!

I ordered two of these dog beds – that were guaranteed to be loved by my dogs except they’re not but Millie is.

Rose sent me these leftover blocks which I sewed together but never got quilted.

Connie and Roy got back home tonight after two months on Sanibel Island – I’m glad they’re back.

Love the quilt show today, that sweet bunny table runner is adorable!
Mortie is the box🐾💕 she sure brings joy to your life ( and mine too!)
Prayers to all that are in this crazy weather!
Happy Easter to all.
Loved all the quilts today. Gives me inspiration but for some reason it doesn’t materialize! We’re winding down our AZ time and will head home next week. I’ve been piecing blocks in the evenings when I have time. Hopefully a quilt when we get settled at home. Happy Easter to all. He is risen!
Great post of inspiring quilt projects, color combos and design possibilities. Thanks to all for sharing and Mary passing along to us.
The beautiful amaryllis really caught my eye. My Grandmother brought bulbs of that particular variety with her when she moved to Arizona in the 1940’s. They survived four more transplants between my Mother and myself. Thanks for sharing their vibrancy in the garden.
March Madness weekend, with sewing thrown in for me. By the way, not a fan of the portal either.
Happy Easter!
That Bunny table runner is so cute! Beautiful display of quilts . I love seeing what everyone has been working on. It’s been a busy week with Dr appts, etc. Monday night Ron took me to the ER as I had a really bad scratch on my arm from Boots. This dog can be airborne from 6-8 ft away & if you aren’t expecting it, it’s a real surprise! He peeled back a 2″ piece of skin. I’ve never had a dog that has claws like a cat & can sail through the air like he does. Maybe this is normal for a Shih Tzu?? He’s still the most loving dog I’ve ever had. Getting ready for a big late Easter dinner Sunday. My son & family will be here & my little home gets very cozy with 3 adult grandkids that range in height from 5’8″ to 6’4″! I’m thinking this might be the last year for Easter baskets as they’re in their 20’s😊 We’ll see! Oh, and my son ordered booties for Boots to protect me from his claws!!😊
Alice – I am sooooo sorry that Boots injured you! I’m glad Ron took you to the ER – you wouldn’t want infection. What are you cooking for Easter dinner?
Boots is still in puppy mode at age 2 yrs old. I have very thin skin unfortunately. I always slow cook a pork loin, for pulled pork, baked beans, the grandkids love my hash brown casserole, carrots cooked in brown sugar, & carrot cake for dessert. Not a big menu, but we all enjoy these favorites. Just easy food to prepare, paper plates, plastic cups, & plastic utensils!
Arm seems to be healing well.😊 I quickly ran cold water on it & wrapped it up & we headed to the ER. Oh yes, got a tetanus shot!
Alice – your menu sounds perfect for us – since I’ll be in church all morning I cooked our ham yesterday and we’ll eat cold/hot ham – would love to make those potatoes but Rick has put himself on a strict diet. 🙁
I don’t know that sailing is normal behavior for a Shih Tzu, although I’ve only had two to compare yours to. Is he a puppy? Maybe one parent was a flying squirrel? 😁 Booties are a great idea!
Our first Shih Tzu made it to almost 15 1/2. Our second is 12 now. They’re such a lovable breed.
We have rain here this morning. I got back from Branson, MO yesterday before 5. I have been missing my morning dose of quilts and pics of everything I love too from you.
I have a new greatgrandson (#8) born on my birthday 3/30. I had to share that with the world!
Fran – congrats Great Grandma – and on your birthday!!! Tell us what you worked on at the retreat.
The quilt show today was great! I loved the patriotic tablerunner, the Easter tablerunner and the especially the quilt shown just before the tablerunner! I am curious to find out the name of the quilt pattern! I also liked the one Teresa from Indiana made as well. I think I liking scrappy for a next project. The weather here is predicting rain which turned to ice for us here in SW Minnesota. Two of our four kids with their spouses and kids will join us for Easter dinner this year. I have my DD list out and am go8ng to look for #10 for this month’s project today too. Then I will get busy to get prepared for our celebration on Sunday. Happy Easter.
Cynthia – I should have asked this whole group – what are you making for Easter dinner?
I am making ham..and my daughter, Karen, is making the main dish..it’s a surprise…and I feel the urge to make a 24-hour lettuce salad. I have vegetables for relish. My dtr in law always brings dessert, but, I also have the wonderful Heath Cake made, and I changed it up and used a chocolate cake mix. After living on the farm for so many years and having four kids, and neighbors who stopped by, I always try to be prepared, and my new stove loves to bake things! I was at Hy-Vee today..and was going to buy a bag of frozen shredded has brown potatoes…those shelves are empty. I suspect Cheesy Has Brown casserole (Hotdish in Minnesota) is on many, many menus, edging out scalloped potatoes, which are incredibly easy to make too! I will try to remember what Karen’s main dish turns out to be!
The name of the Scrappy quilt was called “Cutting Corners”. Found in a magazine called ‘Quilting Quickly’ May /June 2017. It is a Fons and Porter publication. It was fun and time consuming. Glad you enjoyed seeing it. Happy Easter.
My mom had a large, beautiful collection of flow blue dishes. The blue on hers was a much deeper color. I have read that reproduction pieces sometimes have a lighter blue coloration, but I don’t think that necessarily means your piece is not flow blue. Is there a maker’s mark on the bottom? It’s a charming piece and a great find anyway you look at it! ~ Suzanne in Michigan
Suzanne – and I know NOTHING about flow blue – it will look nice on a shelf – did you keep your mom’s collection?
I did not keep the dishes, but my youngest sister has them. She has fond memories of haunting antique shops with our mom, looking for pieces for the collection. We three older girls were all off on our own by then. Because of her special memories, we agreed she should have the dishes. I did a little eBay research on your find, and some reading, as well. Older pieces might have a maker’s mark on the bottom, like the Meakin dishes you like. I found a cow pitcher on eBay, which claims to be a reproduction piece made in the mid-1900’s. It could be exactly the same as yours and they’re asking close to $30 for it. I tried to copy/paste the link, but it was too huge to post here. If you searched with terms like “blue folk cow milk pitcher” I’ll bet you could find it easily and see what you thought!
We’ve had almost 2 inches of rain the last 2 days. We’ll see if today lives up to the hype of severe storms the weather people predict. Possible snow tomorrow! Welcome to Iowa in Spring.
I have 5 donation quilts to quilt this weekend. My son and grands coming for dinner Sunday. We went to the service last night and it was full. We also had a good turnout for the noon service.
What do you think about all the Iowa/Iowa State girls entering the portal? No loyalty anymore to their school but chasing the money. I wonder about the people that are advising these young students.
Good Friday service tonight then we wait. He is risen! He is risen indeed!
Happy Easter all!
Diana – the portal issue at Iowa State is very sad to me – think of all the rebuilding ahead! Lipse at Iowa State has been the center of several pieces on tv about him staying his full time at ISU – he has all my respect. Even Audi Crooks is leaving!! I’d say she won’t be the star on her next team like she was at ISU – time will tell. Our Good Friday crosswalk probably will need to meet indoors since we have rain coming.
Great quilt show today! Love those RWB placemats. What a beautiful blue pitcher you found!
It could be Flow Blue, but whatever it is, it is beautiful! So lovely. Aren’t you lucky!
Such beautiful quilts tonight. I want to make the scrappy quilt that Teresa made. I have so many squares already cut out. I think a lot of us have the same sleeping habits…or non-sleeping habits. When I worked my husband said I could fall asleep in 5 minutes. Those days are long gone!
Happy Easter to everyone!
Hi Mary, l see morty is reduced to sleeping in a cardboard box now! I am awake every 2 hours too, thanks to my bladder ,the joys of getting old! Making a feijoa cake tomorrow, neighbors gave me a bowl full,do you have them? South American fruit, much loved in New Zealand. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
No I have not heard of feijoa before but it sounds delicious! My husband’s niece moved to Wellington last August from the US. I’ll try to remember to ask her if she has tried the fruit.
I have bought so many things that people SWEAR their cat played with for hours and minerals past as if to say” REALLY???” What does she spend hours through out the day playing not chewing or eating rubber bands. Especially blue and green ones. She tosses and chases them all over the house. I say she plays soccer with them in the bathroom as I move the hamper and there is always 2-5 under there I kick them out and when I go again back under the hamper there they are. If I ever saw her chewing on them I would definitely take them all away but tossing them is her thing. So got a ball of them from Amazon for 5 bucks and have donated the literally 100’s of “ Your cat is going to LOVE this toy “ to the humane society
Angie – I recently bought 2 expensive interactive toys for Mortie but Hazel wants them and she’ll chew them up!! So…..? I’m afraid somebody will eat the rubber band – Hank would in an instant!
Yes, it IS Flow Blue — I’ve not seen any of this in a long, long time. You got a steal! Thanks for sharing the pictures around your home & the quilts shared….it was a feast for the eyes!
Deb – I think I should take pictures around my house of some of my things that I’ve collected over the years. When I really look at them they’re pretty fun again.
Love the bunny table runner, Mortie in a box with a space cut out for her neck, and the patriotic place mats.
Hope you will be seeing Connie soon. I am sure you miss her.
We had such horrible icy weather today that many stayed home from church tonight, roads are still slippery and lots of folks without power still. It’s getting cold outside. We lost a few big branches in our yard and have quite a mess to clean up but nothing hit the house. I love the cute easter table runner, what a fun pattern. Managed to make 2 pans of cinnamon rolls and get the house cleaned for company. I’m wishing spring would make up its mind and get here,
Kim – oh no! Wicked weather for you and more cleanup – ugh.
Great quilts today.
I wish I could have a good nights sleep. I take magnesium every night and that helps somewhat, at least when I wake up I go back to sleep quickly, but I still wake up at least 4x a night.
Hoping to start quilting my DD #10 quilt on Sunday. We shall see. Have a wonderful Easter everyone. It’s supposed to be warm and sunny on Sunday, 69 degrees today it was 50 degrees so it will be a wonderful change.
How cute is that bunny table runner! I love Teresa’s red and green quilt.
What beautiful amaryllis! Someone has a very green thumb. Super quilts too and the table runner is so cute.
Mary, did you play the piano tonight? You have a busy weekend ahead. Hope you can get some sleep.
Vicki – oh, sure, I played tonight. I don’t really have a substitute except that sometimes Margaret plays alone without me.
Wow!!!, the quilts today are fantastic.
I don’t have any input for sleeping. When I can sleep more than 2 hours without getting up with foot/leg cramps, I feel accomplished. No suggestions from me. It’s not fair the dog can fall asleep so fast after me getting up.
I used to put a bar of soap in my bed for the leg cramps, now it’s gin and tonic! Works better and has a nice side effect. Getting up at night, 5 or more times and it’s just enough to make me crabby all day, and that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
