Another gorgeous day in North Iowa – normally it’s below zero now. Even if it does get very cold now, I can never trust the Farmers Almanac again since they predicted a colder than normal winter for us.
Let’s look at the remaining quilts.

P.S. An exciting Arlo update – he’s home with Ginny and so happy to see everybody in his little family! He has to be quiet for at least another month but the more walks he takes, the stronger his broken pelvis and leg will be. He lost weight while at the clinic which will help – less weight would help most of us.
Ginny is thankful for Dr. Drager and staff at the Marshalltown Vet Clinic for all their care and love for Arlo. Keep Ginny and Arlo in your prayers and thanks so much!
Can’t wait to get this book!! The quilts are beautiful! Thanks for the preview! I love the blue chest too.
So glad Ginny has you as a friend. Prayers have been answered for Arlo. Will continue saying them for him!
Les – is this coming into your email now????
So glad Arlo is doing so well. I appreciate the updates on him! Pretty quilts.
I just love the “Hiding in Plain Sight” quilt. But only 30 x 30?. Oh, my, those pieces must be pretty teeny!!
All the others are great, too!! Not a bad one in the bunch!!
Thank God Dr. Drager was able to save Arlo, he’s a very lucky dog. The quilts are absolutely beautiful! The weather here is warmer than usual but very wet. I’d rather see some (but not a lot) of snow! Jan in Topsfield where I’m feverishly trying to finish the first week of the Bull’s Eye quilt!
Jan- I found this past year I am a little slower sewing now so I set myself a goal to cut out 8 blocks a day with this quilt a-long I wanted to do and have them ready to sew the next. It’s worked and I loved resting at night and trimming out the backs as it isn’t work at that point I could make a mistake on. And if By Tuesday I have a few more to do, I will proceed to the next step as I have the basics down to catch up. I decided it’s not the pace to make the quilt but to enjoy the process more this year and I am so glad I began it with this one. The other UFO’s will be there till I decide to finish them or donate them if I am not thinking they are worth my time anymore.
Gorgeous quilts and great photography! Thank you!!
Hugs and prayers for Arlo, his family and Doctors.
Beautiful quilts! I don’t know if I forgot, but do you design and make the quilts yourself or who makes them.? I have very little creativity in my mind, but give me a kit and I’ll do fine. Thanks!
Pam Forsling – there is absolutely no way we could tell someone how to make the original quilt since each and every block is different. If we were designing a 4 color quilt and one quilt block, of course someone else could sew it up but every piece is “interviewed” in the block and setting. Making repeated identical blocks is very boring to us and frankly anybody could do it. If we aren’t the designers and sewers, why would Martingale need or want authors? I hope this explanation is helpful. I don’t mean to be short with you but as authors what would we be expected to do if not design and sew the quilts? You’re probably not the only one with this question so thank you!
Mary & Connie, I am so looking forward to the new book. I love every quilt posted today and want to make them. I better get busy with my 2019 UFO List, so I can start on these when my book arrives! I wish uou great success with your new book!
Karen Gaithersburg – thanks so much and the next one has been moved on to the technical writer for release the end of 2019, I think.
Karen Gaither – I missed the autocorrect again – so sorry!
So glad that Arlo is home with his family and is doing well. We will keep them all in our thoughts and prayers.
The quilts are all so beautiful – it will be fun to get the book and decide which to do first.
I was just thinking about Arlo and wondering how pup was doing. I’m so happy to hear he’s on the mend . We need a little good news right now.
Hooray for Arlo and the caring staff in Marshalltown. I thank my lucky stars that my baby steps in quilting were with Country Threads first two charm books and the charm pack of the month club. I was drawn to scrappy from the start and your books continue to challenge and inspire. I am so glad you gals did not retire from quit design.
Donna Sproston – I’ve said this many times – this blog is good for business but we can’t work that hard anymore – having the quilt shop, etc. and it seems we are incapable of retiring completely.
You keep tempting me with your beautiful quilts but I MUST get back to the 4 I already have in progress!!!! I am trying SO HARD to cut down on my backlog….. but ohhhhh these are so tempting. And so happy to hear the good news about Arlo.
It’s so great to see Arlo up walking from his extensive surgery. An amazing vet team to do what they have done to give Arlo and Ginny a happy life together.
Warms my heart. And your quilts inspire me so looking forward to your new book.
No snow here and it’s 40 this morning but the wind is blowing in some cold air for the coming days. What happened to my January days staying tucked inside sewing!!!! I just might walk to church this morning – it’s not too far, don’t worry.
Great post! As I looked at each quilt, i thought, that’s my favourite – love them all. ‘Also glad to hear about Arlo’s recovery. Thanks to Kathy in western NY for the suggestion on managing sewing – I think that’s a great way to enjoy quilting.
The quilts are beautiful in the new book. What good news for Arlo. He looks happy as can be now that he’s home! Yay!
What beautiful quilts! This book will surely be winner! I must get my check in the mail.
Oh, I can’t decide on a favorite scrappy quilt to do first, but Mary..I do LOVE the red centers and black you and Connie used to set off the scrappy blocks. What fun to get into my stash and play in Feb! Your book will be a great read on snowy evenings, too!
Arlo has some fancy stitching to show how he was put back together by a caring veterinarian. Must be wonderful to have him home again!
Thanks for the exciting Arlo update! It is so wonderful to just see him standing! Thank you, thank you to the vet clinic Doctors & All the Staff & all the LOVE & Prayers from around the world! “We love you Arlo !”
Book: What Beautiful Quilts & Photos !!! The ‘lots & lots of Scrappy Fabric’ makes each one a Master Piece; and, the ‘Line Quilting’, along with the colors of the Scrappy fabrics, gives each quilt that Antique look that I’m sure you wanted! You have another ‘Wonderful, Inspiring Book’! Freda, Oxford, AL (33 Degrees here at daybreak… Burrr!)
Love these designs. You both do amazing work. Who do I make out the check to? Your name or the book or??? Thanks! Love your blog too! Especially that adorable Reed….what a sweetheart!!
Thank you for keeping us updated on Arlos progress. Arlos looking good.
I love every quilt you’ve shown…..would love to make them all. I’m looking forward to the book(s). So happy things are going so well for Arlo.
Such beautiful quilts, Mary! I love the settings/backgrounds. So glad to hear the news about Arlo, he really is lucky. Happy Kings’s Day!
Beautiful quilts, Mary, I love the picture settings/backgrounds. Thank you for reporting on Arlo, he is a lucky dog. Happy Kings’Day!
Felicia – Martingale does all the photography and yes, they do a beautiful job! We couldn’t agree more.
These are just beautiful quilts
Connie and Mary – congratulations on this beautiful book. You are such great designers. And thanks for the previews! The quilts are all gorgeous. “Best of All” is my number one favorite – the colors really pop against the dark sashing, and I love a square quilt. But I could make a case for each one being my favorite for different reasons. I hope to make them all. Can’t wait for the book to get here.
Janine -Thank you! Best of All is what Connie is going to teach on her next Stitchin’ Heaven cruise. The original quilt was a hodgepodge of blocks that happened when I kept trying to find the perfect combo. I finally gave up and sewed all the “starter” blocks together – haha! And the picture of the original quilt pops up on Pinterest real often. Sometimes you just have to “do it”! And then move on which I did.
Mary, the quilts are all beautiful, love the colors.
