I hated listening to the news this morning about the conflict in the Middle East -couldn’t we let them fight this out themselves? But what do I know?
We’re going to be below zero tomorrow morning. I look at my yard every year about this time and wonder if it will ever look nice again. Because I know I cannot rake this spring with my shoulder issues, I found someone to do it – he runs a lawn service and lives not even 2 miles from me. I am so relieved!

If you’ve read this entire post, here’s your reward. Tomorrow is March 1 and the Dirty Dozen number is 6. Six – 6. How many of you finished your Number 4?

Mary
I love playing your UFO number game. Going to try to send pictures but just want to say I finished #12 and #4.
Now I just have to get them quilted. So finished for me is the top and having the binding ready.
So glad you found someone for raking . I look forward yo reading your blog and seeing all the pictures
How wonderful that you found a yard person and someone who lives close by. Our yard in Wisc has lots of snow and I look forward to spring and the clean up but each year it gets harder. We need to clean more of the woods behind our home and plant some wildflowers. I may look into hiring it done and give me helping hand since the hubby isn’t helpful. We have been traveling the past few weeks and have enjoyed the warmer weather on Dauphin Island and seeing all the azaleas in bloom. Will head home shortly but being in the sunshine has helped.
Kim – I know my shoulders can’t manage raking this spring
I’m enjoying the Dirty Dozen this time around. I finished January . #4 was Jamestown Landing by Bonnie Hunter. That one just needs the borders and they are done and ready to go, so that will be quick. I had a bit of a blip as I thought i had finished my string neutral blocks for that one, but couldn’t find all them , so I had to make 120 string blocks. I finished them and then wouldn’t you know????? I found the missing ones. So now it looks like I have yet another UFO as I make a plan for those extra blocks. Sigh. I obviously need to straighten out my sewing room. I don’t have the sashing fabric for #6 so I will move on to another project. Thank you , Mary, for inspiring me to finish some of these languishing projects.
Ginger, how frustrating not being able to find 120 blocks then remaking them and finding them. But you are right, I think all of us could use sorting out our sewing rooms. I’m still looking for one thing I haven’t found since we moved. I’m very puzzled. Have a wonderful day. Can’t wait to see the picture of your finished quilt.
Jeanne, love your charity quilts. I’m impressed with the pieced back. It will bless someone!
Mary, I’m glad you’re finding someone to help with the yard work.
It was warm enough to sit on the back porch yesterday. I think we’ll get rain this week. Been a long winter.
I read a great book this week. The Correspondent by Virginia Evans. She is 73 and losing her vision like me. It’s an epistolary novel.
Mary,
Happy March 1st! We had about 2 inches of snow starting yesterday afternoon. It’s so pretty but gee, I was hoping we were done! Guess not. Chickens did NOT want to leave the coop this morning.
Im also glad you found someone to rake for you. I love that picture of the kitty in the drawer.
Jeanine, i like your doggy fabrics and someone who loves dogs is going to be thrilled to receive this quilt. Do you know a name for the 5 “ cut square quilt? I like that arrangement. Thanks.
I did finish my #4! Going to my sewing room to see which is my #6. Thanks for doing this, Mary, and for the blog🌻
Sunflower – That pattern is the disappearing 9 patch. It is scrappy so you may not recognize it. I still have more 5″ sqaures to use. They were my DD #4 project. Now I’m going to go see what my # 6 is as well.
That Mortie is just the cutest cat. I always liked orange cats. We had them when I was a girl on the farm in MN.
Jeanine,
Thanks! I did not recognize the disappearing nine patch but do now! Should have studied it harder. For the baby quilt I’m making, it would be a pretty back pattern. 🌻
Love Jeanie’s quilts, especially the one with the five inch blocks! Someone will love it for sure!
Glad you got someone to rake, Mary, you cannot do all that stuff anymore! Hope you find someone to help you with all your plants too!
We celebrated four birthdays last evening at our son’s house. He always grills up the best stuff! Our son made country style pork ribs and chicken and pork butt chunks (a little bigger than chislik. Plus, I brought a seven layer lettuce salad, mashed potatoes and dessert was apple crisp and a pecan topped cheese cake (made by the new daughter-in-law). Everything was so good and The cheese cake was amazing and so was the apple crisp!
Have a good Sunday!
Mary, I’m also happy we don’t to politics on your blog!
Joy – I’m much more interested in your delicious sounding menu!
Jeanine, you sure are prolific and super generous to give your quilts away. Because of my hand surgery I didn’t finish #4 so I just renamed it to #6 – does that work? Anyway, that’s what I did.
It sounds like we are all ready for spring.
Have a great day everyone.
Janet – I have also renumbered – and it works! I haven’t “chosen” my #6 yet.
Soooo glad you found someone to rake for you!! What a relief!
Love the other ginger kitty tucked in that drawer so cute!!
Lovely quilts everyone!
Snow overnight here – 65 on Thursday- crazy weather but that’s Ohio!
I hope to finish #4 today or tomorrow – my goal was to finish piecing and putting two borders on. I’ll send it out for quilting because my midarm table is set up for 6’ instead of 12’ and this quilt is too big for that setup.
Mortie is such a beautiful soul. I’m so glad he found you so he can be loved the way he deserves.
Nikko and Oliver return to the vet on Thursday for additional shots before they are fixed in April. Oliver is shy and Nikko is all boy. But Nikko is also very loving and follows me around like a dog. When I call him he comes running. It’s hard to believe they’re feral kittens.
I can’t wait to “spring ahead” next Sunday. I wish they would do away with daylight savings time altogether. Happy March 1st.
Love your quilts Jeanine, especially the one with the Dog fabrics and the pieced back! I love the look of a pieced back but I’ve usually run out of steam by the time I get there.
My #6 is to finish half the blocks of a hand appliqued floral quilt. There are 9 big blocks in total and I have one completed and another one started so I’ll be happy to have five blocks done by the end of March. That’s a tall order but not impossible.
Hi Mary, have put together a number of old blocks for my next finish, will pin and start quilting tomorrow, there was lots of narrow strips added to make it fit! I has a lovely ginger female cat, she spent 2 days in the drawers under the boys bunks before I found her! No wet patches either! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Jeanine, your charity quilts are great, I especially like the first one.
The little ginger cat is adorable; I hope it enjoyed its nap in the cozy drawer.
Hopefully, Mortie will like staying in due to cold temps.
Stay warm and thanks for the blog.
I’m struggling with #12, and won’t be even close to finishing, but I’ve made good progress. I’ll keep plugging away at it. Not sure what #4 is, but I’ll try to get to it before March is over. It’s only March first, and things are already beginning to pile up!
What I *meant* to say is that I’m still working on #4, and hope to get to #6! UGH. I’m for bed!
Jay – if #12 is too much to finish in one month, cut yourself some slack and label it 12-6 and skip #4 for now. Don’t beat yourself up about this – feel free to adjust.
Brrr is right, Mary! It was 84 today, 86 tomorrow. We really haven’t had much of a winter here in the Vegas Valley. Hopefully, I will have a DD this month! I pulled out an old UFO and joined a quilt group at the quilt shop the other day. I put the finished rows up on my wall and will be working on the setting triangles this week. I have never made a quilt on point, so this should be interesting! Jeanine, I love the first charity quilt! Great pattern and fun fabrics. Adorable ginger cat in the drawer.
Thank you for not getting political.
CL Kings – politics will never be addressed on this blog. Thanks for your approval!
I’m so glad you found someone to rake for you. Such a relief for you. I like all the DD finishes you’ve been showing. I’m about to start a quilt tomorrow and need it finished by the end of the week. It will be my DD #6. We shall see how it goes because I also need to paint a bathroom this week. I think I’ve decided I must be crazy, but we now have all the floors upstairs done and we need to start painting. There are three rooms and a large landing and then I have door frames to prime and paint white. After that my husband will install new door molding and we will be done. I’m thinking it could take to the end of March or middle of April. And then we will stop the renovations for a bit and just work outside.
March!!! We survived January and February – but we may have snow here overnight. We’ll see! Spring isn’t too far away (although I’m not totally consumed by cabin fever…) and Daylight Saving Time starts next Sunday, the 8th. I am ready for longer days…
Nice photos – thank you!!!
