Bullseye Quilts #3, 4-28-25

We’ve experienced a stormy evening although we’ve had no damage at this point. Here’s the sky earlier tonight:

Hazel has been terrified all evening – she spent this morning at the spa – you’ll hardly recognize her!

The groomer said she was quite “vocal”. Haha!

This weather tonight is the reason I worked so hard yesterday – I didn’t want the leaves I’d already raked to get blown around. Wind was clocked at 60 mph today- nothing was safe from blowing away.

Reader photos

Keeper isn’t sure this is really Hazel!

If I get all these bullseye pictures mixed up, just bear with me. It seems like they shuffle from one day to the next. But keep sending them if you haven’t already.

Enjoy!

That sky looks ominous! Hazel is one pretty lady after her grooming! She looks so clean and near and fluffy! Love the bullseye quilts – my top is pieced but without a border 🙄

  2. Des

All of the bullseye quilts are very inspirational! Hazel looks like she should be wearing a diamond studded collar! Tres chic!

  3. Sharon G NE IN

Hazel is still a diva!! She looks MAHVELLOUS! I am really enjoying the bullseye quilts.

Love the picture of Keeper sniffing Hazel, he has to make sure it’s his Hazel and I bet she has other dogs’ smells on her from the spa, if she isn’t to sweet smelling. Keeper must have some shepherd in him with those ears, but there are so many breeds that’s just my guess. He is a sweety regardless.

I love the bullseye quilts, I should get the pattern and make one – I need another project in the works! I have lots of scraps and I love the scrapy look.

Your sky looked spooky but you are used to the Iowa storms so you know best. It is actually hot this morning here in central Michigan, very windy too. I would love to open my windows but it’s cooler in the house than outside – imagine that!!! And Nancy is bringing her sister Susan up this weekend to stay two weeks and go to our retreat the first week, so I have lots of cleaning to do!

Give the kids hugs for me! I’m wondering how long Hazel will stay white…..

Linda – we had your weather yesterday – hot and windy!!! Today is cool and wind shifted to NW – retreat time!!! I’m so jealous! Who takes care of everything at home?

      1. Linda in Saginaw Michigan

Since the retreat is about 20 or so miles away, Nancy insists on sneaking out with me around 530 am and I feed the dogs, cats and clean the barn and feed Norman and Albert. With the weather getting decent they stay out most of the time so cleaning their stall in the morning is enough. Don feeds everyone in the afternoon and now I have a litter box in the garage for old Maury and Greta (she likes outside because Bette hunts her down in the house and Greta is too passive to fight). I have three littler boxes in the house for Bette and Olivia – Greta if she comes in, so I can get away with cleaning the boxes just once a day now. I will need to remind Don to feed Maury every 4-6 hours because he is boney but eats like a horse.

Linda – and this is why I don’t leave! Who can understand all the instructions per animal. One needs to eat on this counter while the other one eats in the basement, this litter box is their favorite, this cat sleeps in the garage after everybody else goes to sleep, this chicken like to go in here during the day, this cat eats this food on top of this bale! I get it!!!! So I’m really glad you can go and have a great time! You and Nancy can handle it!!

Love seeing how your wonderful readers have made a Bulleyes quilt. Such a nice quilt show this has been to enjoy.
We are under the storm alert for this afternoon and I dread the wind. We need the rain but hope the thunderstorms will pass quickly cause I have 2 dogs like Hazel that are petrified of loud noises. The apple trees are so beautiful here with their white blossoms so I’ll miss the beauty of the past couple days we’ve seen with the wind blowing them off. Our area is second in the nation (behind state of Washington) for apple production and fields after fields of trees.

I love all of the bulls eye quilts. They are so pretty in every color way. Hazel is so snowy white! She sure has personality!

Those clouds sure do look ominous. Do you have a shelter to go to when there’s tornadoes in the area, Mary? Or do you go downstairs? I feel fortunate to live in MA, not many tornadoes here! We are starting to have fires which is strange because there’s not much forest here! There was a huge fire in Rhode Island, thirty square miles of damage and they’ve found that it was set. Unbelievable to me to do that. Such devastation. Hazel looks so purty! I love all of the bull’s eyes! The borders that people have done are just beautiful. I’ve been working on the one I finished piecing a while ago, trying to determine how to quilt it. I am going to try free hand quilting with my “new to me” Sweet Sixteen. I figure it’s a good quilt to learn on. Beautiful day here today but they’re predicting rain for the weekend – again! Jan in MA

Jan – no shelter, just the basement but we didn’t go there last night – we didn’t get a warning so we just watched

  8. Jeanine from SE iowa

I love seeing all the bullseye quilts. I especially like those that added borders. I never want to do that much work by the time I get the top sewn together.
We had very strong winds in the night and we were almost afraid to see what it would look like outside this morning, but very few small branches down. We did not get a drop of rain after all that wind. We are thankful we didn’t have any serious damage.

  9. Fran Dixon

Oh my Hazel looks so different. I like her messy or groomed.

We avoided last night’s storm. We had winds yesterday that were pretty strong.

Loving the Bulls Eye quilts. Hmmm might have to put on my bucket list. They are all so different!

  10. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Glad you didn’t have too much damage. 60 mph winds are bad!!
Hazel looks cute all trimmed. What kind of dog is Keeper, do you think? It’s so wonderful when you have a “sweet” dog. My Buster has golden retriever in him and he is a sweet dog too. No bad habits. This time of year he just wants to sit on the porch outside with me and watch the world go by. No digging in his world. He likes to scare the Amazon man away. Ha! “It works” he thinks!
    Lovely Bulleye quilts.
I want everyone to be safe in these storms.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Carolyn – I honestly don’t know what kind of dog Keeper is – I guess I should just order the DNA testing, shouldn’t I? Everyone asks that about him and I always have to shrug my shoulders. Golden retrievers are pure sweetness through and through. I’ll tell you a secret – before I got Hazel I had a golden who was just wonderful but very laid back and lazy. I remember saying I want a dog with lots of energy to do things with me not just lay around. Here’s the lesson learned – BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR! God will laugh at you.

      1. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Yes, dear Buster is lazy. But it suits me. I’m sure you love your Hazel. Maybe she keeps you young. You sure have a lot of spirit left in you!!!!

  11. Terri S

Hazel is so white when she has gone to The spa. I bet she almost glows at night! The big storms for us in the Twin Cities amounted to virtually nothing. We were in the “ bulls-eye” where the weather parted going north and south and we didn’t get nearly a drop! on that note, we so need the rain

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Terri – gosh, I thought you were probably getting hammered – we got an inch of rain.

  12. Janet S

All the bullseye quilts are wonderful – impossible to pick a favorite. Hazel is beautiful and the shorter fur will make it so much easier for you to give her a bath – ha. Keeper must have been trying to figure out the new scent Hazel was wearing.
The weather service had us prepare for a huge storm with ferocious wind but thankfully it didn’t happen here. Sherry in Kasson may have been hit. It was so serious, our weatherman stayed on the air for 7 hours – just in case. Mary, it sounds as if you got lucky too.
If anyone has Netflix, there is a great show. You have to go into the ‘documentary’ section, then find “The Diamond Heist”. You have to watch it to the end.
    Have a good day everyone.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Janet – I LOVE Netflix suggestions!!!! I started the third season of YOU

    2. Mary Etherington Post author

Janet – you’re so right about Hazel – a quick rinse now will clean her up after her excavating adventures!

    3. Sherry Whalen

Janet – we only got thunder, lightning, rain, about 12 pea-sized hail pieces and a little wind. It looked really ominous but the warnings were mostly north of us and there was a probable tornado north and west of us. We had almost no sunshine in the afternoon which probably kept us safer, but oh my was it muggy for being in the upper 6os/low 70s!! We did end up with rain, about a half inch I think. We’ve been pretty lucky this month, we’ve gotten 4+ inches of rain in smaller amounts instead of 5 or 6 inches all on the same day. We needed the rain, but I imagine the farmers are getting a little antsy to get crops in even though there are several fields planted already. Sherry from Kasson

Love the variety in these bullseye quilts. Love to see the different border treatments, too. Love Karla Ts blue border! Hazel looks beautiful!

  14. Sandy

Hi Mary, the bullseye quilts are amazing, such variety! Hazel must smell different to Keeper! Bellahad a trim today(by me), tomorrow it’s a bath, white dogs look dirty quicker! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

  15. Kim from Wi

Hazel is just adorable, all polished and shined. Enjoying all the quilts today. The rain arrived in middle Wisconsin about 8pm with lots of thunder and lightning. Spring rains have arrived with gusto.

  16. Cindy K

Hazel is so cute with her new hair cut.
She has a regal look about her. Haven’t seen a bad bullseye quilt yet-they’re all great. Going to have to put another one on my bucket list.
