From a reader named Becky S. about her mom, Beverly Weaver:
Mary, my mom has decided a card shower would be fun! Contact details below. I don’t have a recent photo and didn’t take one today because of the bruises, but here’s a picture of an embroidered quilt she made me about 15 years ago if you want to share it.

She’s doing fine (remember she’s the one who slid off her mattress and waited 30 minutes for help) and I’ve installed the mattress gripper which seems to work. The director hasn’t returned her call so she’s scheduling a face-to-face when she’s ready. Believe me I offered to do that for her but she wants to discuss it herself.
We both appreciate the thoughtfulness of you and your readers.

Thanks for asking about Mom! She has four living children, 3 daughters and 1 son. (One daughter passed away 18 years ago.) She lost her first husband in 1963, and went on to have a second long marriage until he passed in 2008.
Mom grew up in North Dakota with Norwegian ancestry, and moved with her parents to Washington during WWII. After raising her family, she and my stepdad full-time motorhomed around the US and Canada and loved meeting people in all the campsites. They were Arizona snowbirds for years and loved the desert.
Mom’s always been young for her age and enjoys the company of those younger than herself. She’s sharp as a tack and has a logical, clear and unsentimental mind.
She still enjoys quilting, though these days focuses on smaller table toppers and charity quilts. One of her charity quilts was hung in a local show last year and raised over $200! She loves scrappy quilts with traditional fabrics, minimal background and darker colors.
She’s always been a huge reader, particularly of mystery fiction, especially British. Thankfully the mobile library visits monthly. Mom taught all of her daughters that reading and crafts were essential to our happiness.
Mary talking: my card will be in the mail tomorrow. She taught her daughters well, didn’t she?
Yes, I have another card recipient lined up but her birthday is March 9 so I think I’ll wait till March 1 to put her in the blog.
Quilts and cats from readers:

Thank you to everyone who sent me a photo, whether it was a cat or a quilt! I loved them all!

My husband had family in that part of Appalachia. He enjoyed those books too. He doesn’t remember the book women, but does remember mail being delivered by mule riders.
Wishing you the best with your medical treatments.
My comments were a reply to Jeanne in Co. Not sure why they didn’t go directly under her comment.
I laughed out loud seeing Cat in a Sink and Cat Collar. So funny!
Jeanne in Co. I read The Bookwomen of Troublesome Creek and loved it too. I did not realize there was a sequel. Thank you. I will start looking for Bookwoman’s Daughter. Wishing you all the best tomorrow.
I love Beverly’s embroidered quilt.
Stay warm everyone.
Sue, I read both books and enjoyed them both very much.

Jeanne, thinking of you as you embark on this treatment. As Kathy said, feel the strength of Mary’s readers pulling for you. For the card recipient, Beverly, may you heal from your fall and get answers from the in-person meeting.
Triangle quilt is beautiful. Loved the New Year’s Day small basket project! Log cabin flag and snow table toppers – love the colors!
These pictures are a hoot. Some people capture such cool photos. I don’t carry my phone around to grab a photo as good as so many of these are.
Jeanne, May you feel strength pulling for you from all of Mary’s readers.
We are in a winter wonderland here with blowing snow and businesses and schools closed. A sew day with leftovers in the frig so I’m a happy camper.
Kathy – and that’s what I say about all the pictures I take – my phone is always in my pocket so when those moments are in front of me I can capture some of them.
.A get well card shower for Beverly Weaver will be nice as she recovers from her fall. Slipping out of bed is certainly a concern especially with the super high mattresses that are popular nowadays.
I had to do a double take on the “furry neck scarf “ photo. At first it looked like the fur trimmed hood on my coat! lol. Finding the cat in photos is sometimes a challenge. Photos of quilts are always wonderful!
Jeanne in CO- please know that you are in my prayers as you begin your chemotherapy.
Jeannie in Co, you will be in our thoughts as you start your treatments. Hope all goes well!
The kitties are all so cute, the collar kitten is real funny; I didn’t even see the cat at first! The quilts are all petty!
Our weather is a roller coaster….yesterday bitter cold wind out of the north, today wind out of the south and 40 degrees. Tomorrow snow. Don’t tell anyone, but I think a good two day blizzard in January would be kind of cozy. Haahaa
Always love to learn new things! The triangle quilt is my newbie for today. I’ve never seen anything like that. Beautiful quilt.
The cats are lovely.
I like the embroidered quilt, too. So many beautiful ideas.
Spent the last couple of days cleaning and organizing.
Found a new quote for me:
Organizing is for retrieval, not storage.
Shirley, I just finished reading the same book, Theo of Golden. I really enjoyed it too. My granddaughter from Iowa belongs to a book club and she brings me a bag full of great novels to read whenever she comes to Co. to visit. Her Mom reads them first and then usually puts a sticky note inside the front cover saying, I think Grandma Jeanne would like this one.” or “this one needs to go to Co.” They’ve never sent a bad one yet. My favorites were “The Bookwomen of Troublesome Creek” and “Bookwomans Daughter”. About life in the Appalachian area and the hardships they faced and the delivery of reading material to those who lived in the hills and couldn’t get to the libraries. The books were brought to them by young women who rode donkeys to deliver them. Historically true story, but written as a novel. .
Mary, got my port put in today, I start chemo on Fri. Jeanne in Co.
I will put you on my prayer list for a cure of your cancer, and the courage to bear the treatment.
Jeanne – I wrote you such a long email, message, comment – whatever way but I lost it – how in the world? When I received it my friend Kathy was here and she works at the Cancer Center – so I read it to her. You’ve got a super attitude and that helps a lot. Remember my experience at Mayo when they put an IV into my artery instead of a vein? I cried and screamed and now you’re having similar issues. I hate it for you.
Mary, just a thought on the vanished email, check in Drafts. This is where my vanished emails go to. I found a couple that went there but I re-wrote them so deleted or removed the,. Just a thought.
L want to send a special congratulations to the lady who made the triangle quilt. Lovely colour mix and I see you won a prize. Congratulations!
Hi Mary, wonderful hard working cats, being a scarf, rearranging quilt blocks, helping at the sink, computer literate cat. I just have a useless dog! Very wet today, saves me watering plants. Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Is Beverly’s card shower for a birthday? Thank you!
Cherie, I believe it is a Get Well, Cheer one up type card as she had a fall out of her bed. That is what I am sending! So glad she did not break any bones.
Thank you!
If your card receiver or anyone is looking for a wonderful, wonderful book to read, it is Theo of Golden.
You will all love it.
