The joke is on me – I wrote the post last night and I guess it was late because I forgot to publish it. Duh. When I finally discovered it I posted it this afternoon. Bear with me – there’s lots of pictures to go thru.
Next year in December I’m going to ask for nativity pictures! I have loved them all and there are many that are identical and so many different ones, too. I have a couple of them that I didn’t get out this year. I’m having a minimalist Christmas this year.
Becky and Tom came tonight for snacks and drinks for our Christmas. They’re going to dog sit at their son’s house over Christmas.

Hope you got both posts!

Like everyone else, I love the stair raisers with the hooked rugs inset. Super unique and cute.
I’ve enjoyed the Christmas posts with all the decorations and quilts so much. They are all beautiful. Thank you everyone for sharing. Also loving the pictures of Mary’s pets, especially the kitties, most especially Mortie. She is just the cutest thing, but the pictures with your sister look like maybe Mortie is so much of a cuddler. Or maybe she’s just not used to Becky yet.
Mary, I’m glad the tree trimmers came, so you no longer have that worry.
To everyone – happy winter solstice today! Daylight gets a wee bit longer each day from now.
I have that same nativity out as the first one posted today. My son and daughter-in-law gave it to me for Christmas many years ago. I’m sure my daughter-in-law was the one that picked it out! i know our son is not a shopper!
I love the nativities as I have mentioned in previous posts. There are so many to look at. They are the reason for the season.
I want to wish Mary and Rick, and everyone here on the blog a Merry Christmas! Enjoy your family if you are with them this week.
Love nativities!
Great pictures of Becky with Hazel and Mortie!! Thanks to everyone who shared their Christmas photos with the readers. Brings back a lot of memories. This blog is the best medicine!!
Ahhh, Mary Ellen Von Holt. I have one of their books. I think I had my Dirty Dozen finished almost before you posted that you would do it, Mary. I am READY!! I like how all of us are on the Blog, but we all have different, but beautiful tastes in decorating and quilts. It makes a diverse group, one:)
I grew up 75 miles South of Buffalo and our local bowling alley had Buffalo Wings right after they were invented:) I wonder if that was the blizzard of 1969? My husband and I were married on December 27th. We had 36 inches of snow in 24 hours so not many came to the wedding. We will be married 56 years on Saturday and still going strong:)
Diane – now that’s a story -36” of snow on your wedding day!! Happy Anniversary – and many more. I also enjoy everyone’s different tastes – makes for interesting reading.
Mary,
So glad you had a visit from the tree trimmers! Amazing what they can do with their equipment.
Mortie has a long stretch! Love her daily antics. Thanks for sharing her.
Love the shiny boots on the little girl in front of the beautiful Christmas tree. The Christmas quilts and decorations over the last few weeks have been outstanding. I’ve looked at them and then re-looked.
I will join the Dirty Dozen challenge. Heaven knows I have many projects that qualify!
This past Thursday my husband and I went to the nursing home my mom had lived at for their Christmas party. They had snacks and desserts and a Christmas tree raffle. There were about 20 trees and each was decorated and raffled off. My husband won a 4 foot tree decorated and donated by a local Mexican restaurant. There was a gift card on the tree for the restaurant and they have great food. We visited with my uncle who is 86 and living in the same nursing home. he went to the party with us and we had a fun time. I will send a photo to Mary with my favorite tree. There was a great variety.
Take care everyone! 🌻
I could not get this to post yesterday! Sorry to be late. 🌻
I received both posts, too. All are filled with Christmas cheer and a multitude of decorating ideas. Thanks so much for posting it all, Mary. Comments posted along the way are also interesting. Thanks to those who take the time to post them. Have a joyous Christmas week. 🙂
Since many of the Christmas events we have been to this Season have been serving chicken wings, I thought I should tell the story of how they came about. The birth of this delicious treat actually started years ago at a small bar on Main St in downtown Buffalo, NY. It is called The Anchor Bar. Blizzards started with little warning back in the day, and during one sudden storm several people were stranded at this bar for several days. As food supplies became diminished, Theresa, the owner of the bar along with her husban Frank, cut up chicken wings, deep fried them in oil, and developed a sauce to toss them in along with melted butter, celery salt and a few other ingredients. Then she served them with celery sticks and Bleu cheese dressing to dip everything in. They were such a hit that they have been on the menu ever since. I went to Nursing School at The Buffalo General Hospital which is a block away from The Anchor Bar, so guess what we lived on while getting our degrees! The bar still exists and is usually crowded any time of the day/evening. The only difference is that when I was in school, the wings cost 10 cents each !!!! They also would serve a bowl of green olives along with the celery sticks. Now everything costs separately. And that is the story of the Birth of Buffalo Chicken Wings.
The first nativity picture with the scene set up on a doily reminded me of all of my mother’s hand crocheted doilies I still have tucked away in a drawer. I can use one large doily for this same purpose of display of a nativity. Great idea!
I have made my Christmas dinner menu – with requests from individual family members. One wants potato salad and deviled eggs. Not quite usual Christmas fare, but I can easily do this. The meal will be a bit of a hodge podge of individual favorites. All made with love.
Beautiful photos to enjoy with coffee. Thank you for sharing. And yes, I got all the posts.
Mary thank you for all your posts. I didn’t put out many Christmas decorations as I’m not there. Dog sitting for 2.5 weeks and possibly longer
You know I’m a cat person so love seeing Mortie and Three., etc. How did Three get her/his name? I agree how does Hazel stay so white? Maybe she rolls in the snow
and freshens her fur 😂.
Mary have a Blessed Christmas 🎄
Donna aka Henners
All of the pictures are wonderful. I love the nativity scenes. I always have a minimalist Christmas, but it’s lovely to see all the decorations. So many creative people and ideas. Rainy day here in Idaho. Merry Christmas everyone
Don’t worry Mary, I have a friend who is always apologizing for not hitting the send button to reply to a text so I get it several hours later.
For a farm dog I don’t know how Hazel stays so white. Her and Becky are so cute together.
Kathy – I don’t know how Hazel stays white either because she hasn’t had a bath – I think her coat is so coarse that the dirt rubs off in her bed – or mine!!!
Ortie is the most photogenic cat I’ve ever seen. She needs to be in commercials or have her face on cans of cat food! Everyone would buy that product just for herpicture!
Bobby – I agree that Mortie is very photogenic – I don’t understand it really but I take many pics of her every day. What a fun idea of her being a spokescat!
Love, love, love all the photos. Becky is really very photogenic along with Mortie. That photo with Hazel and I am not sure which cat under the tree is so beautiful. It would make a great Christmas card. I would love to have it. Hazel is so white! Thanks for all the enjoyment!
Brenda – if you give me your address, I’ll print that picture out for you and put it in the mail.
Becly is so photogenic, and so is Morty. Cute girls, both of them.
I have been enjoying all the Christmas decorations and especially all the Nativity sets. The handmade one is precious. It’s nearly here now, and then we get to take it all down. That’s one of the reasons I am having a minimalist Christmas too.
I received both posts. Thanks Mary. I’m sure that you received so many and it was confusing. I do appreciate all of your work sharing them. I did gleen some ideas from them. The photos of Becky with Mortie and then Hazel are nice. You should print one of those and frame it. I agree that the stairs are very interesting. I want to wish everyone one a very merry Christmas.
Morti and Becky are both adorable! Three looks so comfy with his little paws crossed. Is that Mama under the Christmas tree? She is a pretty girl.
Mary, thanks for the blog. 🥰
What a great picture of Becky and Mortie.
Yes would love to know more about the pictures of the stairs , what a great decorating idea.
I hope the reader who sent the picture of the stairs will tell us about the art on the stairs. Are they latch hook rugs? It is awesome!
I agree. So creative.
Sheryl – no, not latch hook – actual wool hooked rugs made by Mary Ellen Von Holt, one of the owners of Little Quilts from years past. Aren’t they spectacular?
They are amazing!
