Just what I expected – and she had a great time!Doesn’t she look innocent?
One last Funny!
Why aren’t Christmas trees good at sewing?
Because they keep dropping their Needles.

Ah Mortie you are such a cat! I just love her! We had an orange kitty or gold what ever color you want to call them. And she sniffed all the time. I actually called her sniffle snot! Nasty name. But she lived for ever and no one else ever got sick. Who knows. I would say Mortie is pure gold. Does she chatter when she’s watching the birds? Yes, Mary you needed Mortie and so did we (especially me)!
I’ve been making cards. I was really out of everything and still have men birthday and baby cards to do. Don’t really want to go anywhere in this goofy weather. The forecast is rain at noon with the wind switching to the northwest gusting to 60! Ugh!
Have a nice warm day and send more lovely pictures.

Both posts today have the best photos! Love all the quilts and decorations. Wow! Thanks Mary and everyone who shared.
We have my family Christmas tomorrow with my siblings and all our kids and their kids. A very sad time though as both my mom and dad passed away in the last few months. I’m sure we will have a few tears but also a nice time remembering them.
I’m sorry for your community, Mary, with the 3 men lost . So sad.

Sunflower – one funeral is at our church on Weds, one is in a neighboring town and one is on Tuesday that I can’t make but I’ll go to visitation Monday – such a shock to our little community

So sad to lose young people. We lost a 78 year old active farmer in our area also, due to a farming related accident.

I am looking for some help with measurements. Please do not be angry with me.
The glasses case you told us about last year. the red square – 1 inch, original backing 9 1/2 inches, strips 1 1/2 inches ,9 1/2 inch batting. I absolutely do not know that there was a name for this project but I know there are hints for more of these to be received by friends and family..
THANK YOU.
PS I looked to determine whether there is an archive of past projects before bothering you.

There is a search bar above Mary and her sister’s picture on the side of the blog. I think if you put glass case or log cabin glass case the posts about it will come up.

Brenda – sounds like you’ve got all the measurements but I’ll see if I can find the directions – or I’ll search online

This was such a lovely blog post, so many pictures of beautiful decorations and quilts. I studied the beautiful green and purple quilt to see how it was put together. Simple blocks combined to make a beautiful pattern. I will try to remember that arrangement for a future quilt. Thanks for sharing everyone!
Mortie is such a cute little minx; love seeing pictures of her.
Hope you all in the Midwest are staying warm!

Such variety in decorations! I was amused by the first tree picture – a “Grump Tree” full grown. Clever! Trader Joe’s sells them as saplings.

Wonderful pictures today of Christmas decorations. Decorations make this season so warm and comforting. Thanks to the readers who shared their homes with us.
I had a nice surprise yesterday afternoon. Annie, a feral cat I’ve been feeding for years, brought me two of the cutest kittens I’ve ever seen. Both are long haired – Nikko is coal black and Heidi is brown/black. I’m trying to persuade them to sleep in the two story heated cat condo I recently bought. I put food on the bottom floor and they are going in to eat but come out and lay on the heated pads outside. What a nice Christmas surprise!!

Wow, what a lovely gift from Annie, your feral cat! I have a ‘feral’ cat story, too, although I believe they are our neighbor’s cat(s) that like to visit our barn. I love kittens, but know they are ‘a lot’ of work (and they grow up too fast!), and we already have four cats, etc., etc., but I half-jokingly mentioned several times in March and April that I wanted a basket of kittens (to cuddle, of course–lol). Imagine my surprise when I looked out the kitchen window on Mother’s Day and saw five kittens playing on the deck!! Oh so cute, especially when they all tried to curl up in an empty flower pot to take a nap. Knew trying to get close to them would make the mother cat move them, and mama wasn’t interested in us getting near her, either. So, after a couple of days, she moved them anyway–to the other side of our house, under some bushes. We were able to watch them from inside the house. Then, after only a few days, she moved them again, to the barn. Then, a couple days later to the shed. This moving routine went on for a month or so before she moved them for good (back to the neighbor’s house, we presume). It was so fun to watch them grow and scamper, though, even if we couldn’t pet them. You’d think we’d never seen kittens before the way we watched them, and jumped up to run to the window every time mama cat set off the camera letting us know that she was on her way to the kittens, even using binoculars if they were far away. And always counting them when they ran out to greet mama.

What a treat this morning. Beautiful images. And cute little Mortie nestled under the tree. She knew it was put there just for her!
The cold moon was beautiful as it came up last night in a clear sky with all our snow. We were down to 9 degrees last night.

I will archive this one so I can look at it every time I need some cheering up. I am so in awe of all the beautiful decorations and collections. It is like looking in a magazine of Home Beautiful or some such publication. I am not sure you realize how much cheer you bring to your readers. Some of us really need such lovely viewing to brighten our days and I thank you so much for bringing it to us! I am sooo in love with Martie!
Joy in NW Iowa
Of course she is innocent! Mortie thinks you put that tree up just for her to play with! She is one beautiful kitty!
We woke up to 27*. The horribly cold south wind yesterday warmed us up…just to tease us before the weekend!
Have a good day!
Hank's Mom
Well sweet face Mortie didn’t disappoint you. LOL
But in her defense, I know someone’s tail that might have done just about as much damage had he been there.

Hanks mom – yes, that tail could do it!!

Good day Mary and blog readers! Another great photo displays, lovely trees and decorating! I really liked the red and white quilt displayed on a chair, the photo was the tree with the bow on top of the tree. What is the name of the quilt? I find it intriguing, maybe an after Christmas possibility! Today I am going to work on getting the tree up and decorating as well! Then baking soon, as soon as I get the oven part installed, I am hoping this is the problem, replacing the oven temperature regulator. My oven is 8 years old and when I replace this appliance in a few years, changing brands, this one is a Whirlpool. Not made for durability. I hear snow is in our future on SW Minnesota as well. Kept warm everyone!
Erin
The quilt I made, if you’re referring to the lavender and green quilt is from Quilted Twins, called “Swingin’ Checkerboards.”

Mortie is love and sweet naughtiness …. I think she was given to you Mary so that all of us could enjoy her with you. Thanks for posting all her pictures!

Joy – I agree! She is a sweetheart and I do agree we needed each other.

Enjoying the quilts and Christmas scenes, but especially enjoying Mortie! She is such a doll! Brings a smile to my face every time you share her! That little sweetie couldn’t have possibly done something like that???

What a treat to get up in the morning and see this. Thank you all.

I’m so glad to see that sweet little Mortie is enjoying her tree. What a treat to be invited into your blog readers homes to see their beautiful trees & quilts.

Thanks to all who open their homes for us to see your decorations for the holidays. And the wonderful quilts too.
And to you Mary for saving that precious kitty and giving us a smile every day seeing her antics. She has food, love and especially warmth to survive. Thank you as well as all the others who think of those animals outside.
Mary EtheringtonPost author
Kathy – I still wonder who brought her to me – she’s got a sneezy nose which I am giving her a small pill for but I’m wondering if that’s why someone didn’t want her – they probably thought she had distemper or something. I’ll have her fixed after Christmas.
Kathy in NY
Mary, yes let her get over her sniffles before she needs anesthesia for surgery. My nephew is a vet out of state and he said that is the main reason people drop off pets at the side of the roads and left wandering to fend for themselves or sadly killed by a motorist – because they don’t want to pay for medical care or seek treatment for a pet. I asked him why when we were visiting why so many stray animals along the road, in ditches, and wandering the street.

This is such fun to see everyone’s decorations- what a wonderful start to my morning!
Such an innocent face – you’re such a good cat momma to give her the “tree experience” 🤣
Love the snowman quilt – it looks so familiar but I can’t place the designer??

This was the BEST blog ever! All the pics are just heartwarming. Thank you to all who shared. The person who made the quilt with the trees on top of the cars can you share the pattern? That is a precious quilt! Mortie is a darling little girl.

What great pictures!! That innocent face did not make that mess. My tree is not finished yet. It’s up but not decorated. I’m slowly working on it.

With that innocent face, it had to be someone else that made the mess. 🙂
