Farm News

I became an official foster parent today. I gave Bailey to a wonderful family and I know she will live a life of luxury in Florida. Jeanne and her husband Doug came to Iowa for Christmas in their motor home with daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandsons. Jeanne called me 2 weeks ago to ask if she could adopt Bailey and I, honestly, could find no reason to refuse her. Rick and I drove Bailey to Iowa Falls today and met Jeanne who cried when she met Bailey. I cried as we drove away. The details of Bailey’s previous life remain questionable but the fact remains that she needed a new home. It would have been so easy to keep her but now I can foster another dog and hopefully find another great family who is looking for a dog. And you, my dear friends, will be the first to know.

And here is Christmas Eve with Tom, Becky holding Faye and Danny holding Ernie Joe Mauer. Becky brought Simpson toys for all of the dogs and they did love their gifts! Why won’t Faye sit on my lap like she did on Becky’s?

Earlier in the evening I attended the children’s Christmas Eve program at church – always a tradition.

Remember the blog post where JB posed as the table centerpiece? It really prompted many replies, both pro and con. So here he is again – on the table! Ha!

Had to rescue this goose who is not acting right – can’t walk very well and I think she might be blind. In the bitter cold last week, she could not find her way into the shelter out of the wind so I moved her into the barn. The dogs were very curious about her.

Next week on Thursday, January 2, when the store reopens again, we will post the January online sampler block. This year we will again make 2 blocks per month but they will be different sizes. Last year they were always 12” and 6” and I’m changing that up this year. Get ready to start again! We’re also doing the UFO game next year. We will draw the January number on the 2nd and announce it on the blog. For those of you who didn’t join us in this game last year, here are the rules. List 12 unfinished projects, one through 12 and each month we will pull a number and you will have that month to finish your project. Send us a picture of your finished quilt and we’ll post it on Pinterest. Prizes will be announced.

Wow – it’s been quite a day for me!

Happy New Year!

Mary

Your smile for the day…..

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, “Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?”

The little boy replied, “Sure! Just go straight down this street a coupla blocks and turn to your right.”

The man thanked the boy kindly and said, “I’m the new pastor in town. I’d like for you to come to church on Sunday. I’ll show you how to get to Heaven.”

The little boy replied with a chuckle. “You’re kidding me, right? You don’t even know the way to the Post Office”

So sad but very happy to see Bailey going to her new home. I am truly going to miss seeing her on your post. Thank you for rescuing her and finding her a forever home, it gives me peace in my heart knowing that she will be loved. Hopefully we will get updates from her new parents. Have a happy and joyous New Year and I am ready to participate in the Block of the Month and UFO.

Well, you did it, you’re a foster mom! I know it must’ve been hard, but you drove him to his new family, and he found his new home, you did a great thing. We all will miss him looking for black kitty, but will know he’s warm and making up for lost time.

I’m so happy for Bailey that she got her “furever” home! Sad that you lost her, but you did a wonderful thing just by taking her in. God Bless you!

I personally love the table centerpiece! Can’t imagine one day of my life without cats! Good luck to Bailey and new family. I hope they send pictures. Wow – that must have been hard on you to see such a lovely dog go.

I cried at Bailey going to a new home but I know he will be loved very much, we love Goldies! Next question, where do I obtain the pattern for the red, white, table quilt? It is beautiful and red is my color. I could add this to my list of 12 +. Thanks.

Congratulations on finding Bailey a forever home and bless the new family for their love of animals. Yes, I want to do the bom and also the unfinished project game as well in 2014. The motivation will be an incentive. I received my red log cabin kit and the fabs are absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much. Loved the packing as well. It was a hoot.
