Reed came over yesterday and we picked some ripe tomatoes.
We also checked on the pumpkins and gourds, planted a coneflower, played with the kittens, moved several plants to a sunnier location, checked out the wool batts in the trailer ( leftover from years ago) and watched the Fab Five. The Fab Five are those four last chicks and the lone chick that was just a bit older. They now all hang out together and we are debating on their sex. Honestly I’m afraid I’ve got 3 more roosters and 2 hens in the Fab Five. Can’t say for sure yet but that’s what Reed thinks, too. He talked about putting a harness on his hens and taking them for a walk so when I took him home I threw in a dog harness and a leash. We tried it but the harness just didn’t fit quite right (imagine that!) so I think we’ll order a couple harnesses from Amazon and give it a proper try. I have a feeling Myra and Vera would like to walk a hen, too. They were all so excited! Now who do you think is getting the most fun out of this little adventure? That would be me, of course!
And now I’d like to introduce my “new” friends, Arlo, Zippee and Pepper. Three of my friends have recently gotten new puppies. Here is Arlo, an English black lab.
And Zippee, a Golden Retriever.
And here’s Pepper, the Border Collie.
None of these puppies live close to me but I am going to meet Arlo on Monday – I can’t wait!
I finished Beartown by Frederik Bachman and loved it. The story revolves around a small town and their high school hockey team – I want another good book!

I loved Beartown also. I am getting ready to have three junior hockey players move in for the season..I have been hosting players for ten years mow and love it. So I could relate to the book

Oh, my gosh! I wasn’t to hug all of those soft balls of fluff! My dad’s name was Arlo so just love that. We adopted a corgi, Australian Shepard mix a couple of weeks ago. She is 2. We just love her. Can only imagine how cute she was as a puppy.

Have you read Alexander McCall Smith’s ” The Ladies # 1 Detective Agency” series. Such fun reads. I am so glad that you seem to be doing better!

I think both you and Reed are enjoying this special friendship. I had two dear retired neighbors growing up. Charlie and Sidney enriched my life in countless ways.
Walk chickens? I love it. Tell Reed if it works, I am going to be giving harnesses and leashes to chicken friends for X-mas. Puppies are always cute. Thank you for the smiles and laughs

I can tell I’m ready for retirement. Today I purchased 27 pounds of sweet red cherries. Couldn’t pass them up. Only $19.99. I also had a little friend over this week to help in the garden. We ended up laying in the hammock, playing with my chocolate lab, holding my new dutch baby rabbit , and watching the chickens and just talking. No gardening got done! I feel friendship with youngsters is just so uplifting, they see things in a different way and I had so much fun.

I love reading about your stories of adventures with Reed. He seems like such a sweet, special boy, and I’m sure he loves his time with you as much as you enjoy hanging out with him! Now that I’m retired, I am lucky to be able to take college classes again, and I treasure the new, younger friends I have made.
Sweet puppies every one of them! You have probably read Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns but bu chance you haven’t you should. It’s a book I have read several times.

We are in Alberta, Canada so haven’t replied lately. I love all three puppies. Arlo McKenzie will probably bark with a Scottish brogue!! I am reading Jodi Picoult’s PLAIN TRUTH. It’s an older one, but I hadn’t read it. I am enjoying it so far– only on page 50. Chickens on leashes? I am laughing at the picture in my head. Sooo nice to have such a sweet helper in Reed😃😃. I also just finished THE HANDMAID’s TAle. It was excellent, but somewhat disturbing to ponder.
Diane – since its now a movie, I think I should reread the Handmaids Tail and I like J. Picoult, too!
Chickens are interesting…. For a good read try Francesca’s Kitchen by Peter Pezelli… Italian-American grandma babysits a single mom’s two kids after school and wins their reluctant friendship..partly with her home cooked food…especially her spaghetti sauce. Also The Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan.
The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick was terrific! I’m reading her second book now. Be sure to read the Maisie Dobbs books in order.
A Man Named Uva. Great book!
Love the puppies. Such cuteness. I just finished ” The Shadowland”. About a Bulgarian family and an American girl. Very interesting since it is set in Bulgaria, a country that most of us don’t know much about it.
