I just came back from the barn- windchill is -10! Inside the barn its toasty and everybody is comfy and tomorrow is going to be more of the same.
PT was OK – feels like a lost cause but I can’t live this way so I will give it my all. After PT I went to Clear Lake for groceries and got caught in snow squall blizzard conditions on the way home. I was lucky enough to follow a high truck – otherwise I would not have been able to see where I was on the road. It was 35-40 mph for 15 miles. I haven’t driven in such bad conditions in many years.

This is our dog door which goes outside through a short tunnel which offsets the wind. At night I put that gray panel in to close it but it’s a favorite place to lay – Three loves it.
I promised to take a picture of all the cats with their names. Our two card showers right now are for Jennifer and Beverly. Good ballgames this weekend. I made a Mexican dip tonight so no cooking for me this weekend. Church Sunday morning and then more sewing.
In this weather I’m just glad I’m home.

Hi Mary
I love the blog
Had a wire fox terrier that would not go out if it was drizzling
He acted like I was trying to kill him😂
Hope the PT is not painful, praying for your recovery!

Have learned to live w/the occasional prescribed PT sessions. Last year it was due to the broken shoulder. This year it is lymphedeia . . . a return visit of that particular nastiness after same treatment in 2010. At just shy of 76, my self-imposed driving limitations are rain and night. NOT doing it, just too uncomfortable. I notify everyone when I make appointments . . . if it’s raining I will call to reschedule. Here in southern Tennessee, ice and snow are very, very rare. Why don’t I drive when it rains . . . because OTHER drivers are the idiots. They go the same speeds, drive too close, etc etc as if it were 80 deg on a partly cloudy day. I am just too old to take care of my own driving and also figure out what the other yahoos are going to do. I totally understand those whiteouts in Iowa snow. All those years of living in Iowa gave me a very healthy respect for how bad it can be to get caught in snow squalls on already snow and ice-packed roads. I am very, very grateful for having lived through/survived as many Iowa winters as I have. The last time was following snowplows on the interstate about 20 miles west of Des Moines until I turned north at the Harlan exit. I vowed never again and I haven’t. Stay safe, stay warm, have kerosene lights, propane heat, a treadle sewing machine, and plenty of dog and kitty love to get through Iowa winters!!
Marlene – oh my, it all sounds so familiar. I, too, have reached the age where I’m not comfortable driving at night. I hate going anywhere in the evening so I rarely do. With more snow and wind coming I’m unsure whether I’ll get to my PT appt tomorrow at 9:30.
That white cat on the gnome table runner seems to be saying, yes, I know I’m no beautiful! Love the cat photos from everyone.
I really like the chickadee quilt, it’s just beautiful.
Watching the football games tonight. I couldn’t find the remote control and accused my husband of taking it. Biscuit was laying next to me on the couch and it turns out Biscuit had his head on the remote control! His ear was flipped over it but I can’t imagine it was comfortable lying on that! Silly dog.
We also are having cold and windy weather in southeast Michigan. Very windy today coming right off the lake.
I’m working steadily on my UFO for January. I just wish I could stick to one project! I have a small quilt/table topper I am trying to finish at the same time. I also have a lap quilt up on my quilt frame in the basement that I am working on. I think I have a few more hours to have the quilting done, then just the binding!
Stay safe and warm, everyone. 🌻
Sunflower – oh, Biscuit got to spend the evening with Grandpa and Grandma? Because you all missed each other, right? Oh, the weather is quite dreadful and could easily be deadly – we have to go out fast one more time tonight but I hope they pee fast!
Mary,
Yep, our son and daughter-in-law went to visit friends so we got some Biscuit time! He’s a great dog. 🌻
I’m catching up on a few posts I missed while the iPad was down…what a laugh Hazel’s birthday pictures are. She is a hoot.
It is a puzzle missing a goose. No signs of why!?
All those twin cats. How interesting, plus they get along. Such happy homes they all live in.
Cats seem to be a an uplifting gift found in odd places. Those pix makes me smile.

So glad you made it home safely. So scary driving in a white out!! We did that once in the Sierras. The road was open when we started but before we got through we couldn’t see anything but white. Never again!! I thought we’d go over the side of the mountain.
I’m watching the football games this weekend. I’m routing for the Bills and the 49er’s today. Not sure about tomorrow’s games yet. I’ll decide tomorrow.
Well Charlotte what a nail biter of a game this is turning into with the Bills. Both good teams and equally matched.
Mary I pulled into our garage just as a snow squall came barreling through late this afternoon. Made it home just in time and breathed a sigh of relief I wasn’t on the road trying to see in that wind and blizzard. And then the sun came out and now our temps are dropping,
Kathy – oh, what a sad game for you – startling really but not as disgusting as the SF game! How boring.
I was so sad after that game. Really wanted the Bills to go to the Super Bowl since they didn’t have to compete with KC this year. Hope they will do it next year….along with the 49er’s.
Charlotte – you didn’t have a very good football day, did you? Dang.
No I didn’t!! A very sad day. Maybe next year!!
I just drove in crappy conditions like that here in IL the first of the year. Thank goodness for the truckers laying down the tracks to follow! Grateful you made it home safely and I’m sure the animals are happy that you care so much for them to be comfortable too. Blessings on you, Mary.
Oh! Mary. I have driven in condition like yours…it’s truly scary. Thank goodness you got home safely. I’ve also been in a multi-car pileup in one of those blizzards, not fun there either.
It’s very cold here also, plus the wind. I’m so over this. Loretta went to the spa last work, so she doesn’t dilly dally outside. I think the crows are gone for a while. I throw peanuts out for them, but 3 day supplies are still outside uneaten.
I’m working on my #12 ufo. I’ll cheat and make taxes the same number you pull for February. Yuck, but necessary.
Stay warm and safe everybody….go Bills
Jo – oh, I’m so sorry about the Bills! Great OT game but sad for you. Taxes as your #12! Brilliant!!!!!
BRRR! That’s my reaction. The weather app on my phone allows me to have a list of places I can automatically check the weather. In the winter, Northwest Iowa is frequently the coldest – today, at least, 30 degrees cooler. We are having a mild winter in the desert. Just remember we southwest residents when the temps soar over 115 degrees inn the summer.
Keep at the PT. When my shoulder was injured it took several sessions before I could feel progress was being made. Hang in there, Mary.
I’m working on my DD this weekend.
All this talk about soup, I’ll just have to make some today with a grilled cheese sandwich. 🙂
Below 0 weather is one reason we escaped Vermont some years ago, but just during the winter, Taking our dog out was just a nightmare and sometimes took 3 times to get the job done. He finally learned the frantic words “hurry up”! Your animal door is great. We once had a cat door until someone brought in a snake that he threw down on the kitchen floor. I had to grab the tongs for removing corn from boiling water, pick him up and rush him outside. The door was then closed for awhile. I’m so glad your barn is warm enough for all your animals out there. They are so lucky.
Pat – we do get dead prey brought in for show and tell. Hazel brought a rabbit and a squirrel. Cats bring in birds, mice and one time a dead snake. We’re used to it.
So glad you made it home safely!
Mary, you have to keep up with the PT and do your home PT assignments every day. You don’t want to end up with a frozen shoulder. Yes, the lack of immediate progress, and inability to do things you think you should be able to do is discouraging but shoulders are a long recovery. I’m 2.5 months out from shoulder replacement surgery and I get very discouraged some days when I can’t do one of the exercises and my arm tires so easily. I fear I won’t get back to where I was before the surgery. I am making progress but it’s very slow. The changes are barely noticeable until one day you realize you can reach something you couldn’t before. I can just about use both hands to wash my hair in the shower. The surgeon said I can expect to be 85% at 6 months, a year to fully recover. I’m not allowed to rotary cut with my right hand so I’m learning to carefully use my left. My Stripology ruler is a big help with that because the blade stays in the slot.
Barbara – oh, I’m in for the long haul. I can’t live like this!
Mary, sure hope the PT helps you. How kind of friends to come & help you & bring lunch as well! Temps here are doing down. Right now it’s 35*, but getting colder during the day. Yesterday was spent making potato soup & baking cookies. A friend recently moved his parents to this area & his elderly dad passed last week. Ron & I took soup & cookies for him & his mom. Just one meal he doesn’t have to prepare for his 90+ yr old mom. I’ve tried to find a bit of time each day to work on January’s project. Hoping to have it completed before we leave for FL on 2/1. It’s even cold there!! Not sure about having a pig inside my home for a pet, but it must work for his owner! My dad raised pigs, so it’s hard to comprehend this for me! I’ll stick with my precious pup, Boots who’s curled up between my feet on the recliner.
That’s cold!! Not looking forward to the cold snap. Driving in blizzard conditions is not advised. I’m glad you got home, but I’m sure it was not for the faint-hearted.
I’m looking forward to the games today. Rooting for Bills!
I like your dog door, and it’s wise to shut it at night. Especially if those dogs want to find intruders on the farm at night!!
Carolyn – it was white knuckle driving for sure. Right now the wind chill is -18. I’m planning on watching the games, too
Yes, I got up to 2* and with the wind it feels like -21! Ugh! I’m not going anywhere! Soup does sound good, or chicken n rice casserole. We will see.
I love all the kitties and quilts!
Take care and have a good weekend.
Joy – right now windchill is -18. Everyone in the barn will get feed and fresh water in a couple hours. Ugh – I hate to go out!
I’m making ham and bean soup for church fellowship tomorrow as it’s part of our mission work collecting soup cans for local food pantries so we kept with the theme. After containers for some of our home bound folks, we’ll all get to take some of each others home. Restaurants here are doing soup flights and I like sampling many different kinds. We have our snacks ready for todays Bills game in Denver. Jo in Wyoming will like this comment Josh Allen made on tv here. Asked how he will deal with the high altitude and he said you don’t think about it, you just move on. He must have been one easy going kid in college there.
Lots of people get a headache. Lotsa pasta helps that.
I rutting for Josh. The Broncos have a good record this year…but I’m still for Josh.
Brrrr! That’s cold! I’m glad you got home safely! We’re supposed to be 44 today and down to 22 tonight. Beautiful kitty pictures 😻🥰!
Hoy moly. -10? Our dog won’t go out in even 30 degrees. We have to take him on a walky walk (aka forced march).
Glad you’re home and comfy.
We had beautiful sunny weather today and 50 degrees. The poor horses are shedding like crazy. I can’t imagine temperatures like you are getting. Keep up with the PT it may help. Stay warm and safe Mary.
Hi, can’t imagine your weather, although I do prefer a little cooler. 30 degrees here, I’m in my usual garb. Into the dining area now to polish furniture as part of my big clean up. Pity is I’ve misplaced my reading glasses. Searched everywhere. Can’t imagine where they can be.
Having a break to pat the cat and have an icecream. Take care. soup weather? Cheers
30* C = 86* F. Definitely ice cream weather! Soup weather here…11* with blustery winds. My daughter heads back to MN today. Leaving a coat that needs a new zipper, but it’s been a nice, relaxed visit. Lots of paperwork, cooking (we agree we should never live together…too many calories enjoyed!), a few projects completed, visiting DH/Dad and just plain catching up.
Pat the pets if you have them! Stay warm and safe, everyone. Kris in WI.
Denise, check the top of your head, the front of your shirt, and your refrigerator. Those are the places I ‘lose’ my glasses.
