Game Day in Puerto Rico, 3-11-26

Caitlin’s USA team played in a nearly empty stadium against Senegal in Puerto Rico – they won by maybe 50 points – it was so boring. Boring except for that first 3 point shot by Caitlin.

Four dogs are a lot to keep track of but they’re all so good and all get along well. Hazel has a short fuse however and sometimes I need to intervene. Sigh.

I’m working on a new version of an old Country Threads quilt pattern for the 250th anniversary. All I can say is I was a better piecer/quilter years ago.

Hank found an old pink flip flop

Please do not send me requests for quilt patterns you see on Pinterest – without prior permission. If you do, I am simply keeping your money and sending you nothing.

I’ve always said that a $5 pattern will NOT include a color photo. The pattern might say “refer to color photo”. Do you think I wrote that recently? We were in business for over 35 years. I stand by that decision – NO COLOR PHOTO.

If you want to send me a photo, do you know how to do that? Before I explain it for the umpteenth time, I want to know how many of you know how to do it. You’re the ones who have been paying attention.

I never intended to be back in business since we closed in 2014!! I send you these patterns for $5 to be kind. But please don’t order a pattern that you’ve seen on Pinterest without my approval first. I’ll keep your money and you’ll get nothing.

For you loyal and faithful readers, I apologize you had to read this. This is not aimed at you.

Can you see how close they are to my rolling chair? Keeper is underneath my table, smart fellow!!!

Sounds like we’ve got some weather coming our way.

Polly – oh good heavens!!! That is inexcusable – nobody went to bat for you and if you hadn’t continued on you’d still be very sick. What in the world were they thinking not checking for lactose???? I’d say you have a medical law suit here. I am so sorry! I’ve never been sick for any long periods of time but I sure am sick of these sore shoulders that can’t do anything! Typing in bed on my phone and can’t wait to just lay down!

  2. Colleen in Central Oregon

I know how to send you pictures from my phone but, I haven’t been able to get it to work from my tablet. I don’t know what the difference is. Isn’t technology fun?

Colleen, Take photo, send to photos. Prepare your email to Mary, then you can locate the paper clip in the upper right corner, choose photos or file, if applicable, wherever you sent your photo, I mostly do photos..the colorful flower on your desktop. Select the photo. I send as an attachment, so it is a smaller file being sent. . Our phones make a sending of a photo much faster, but that is what it does when texting. It’s the same process as the iPad really if you email via phone (iPhone). I hope this will assist you, Colleen.

I do know we are to send photos to Mary, and my instructor, (asking Google) how to write or print on a photo is a skill I learned to send photos to Mary as well. We are having big winds here tonight in SW Minnesota. Snow is predicted..at least 6”. It will probably be more. I believe this is coming on Saturday to Sunday.

Oh, how sweet! It looks as though Moe and Hank taking a nap have made a heart shape between them! They are such lucky dogs to have you to “baby sit” them. Almost as lucky as Keeper and Hazel and the cats having you to be their Mom, Mary!
Jo, I get a kick out of the Wyoming weather report in your byline! It is windy in SC WI and hopefully we will be well below the rumored 8″ of snow this weekend!
My best news is that my last 2 scans have been free of cancer. I was really anxious over this last one, but when I needed a new bookmark and went rummaging through my collection, I found a hand made one that read, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart”. How is that for a gift of grace from a library patron who passed away 6 years ago. It gave me the shivers…and it helped.
Thanks to everyone who sent in quilt pictures! They are as close to piecing as I’ve gotten in the last few months but will serve as incentive after I put a zipper in my daughter’s down coat. What on earth made me say, “I can do that.” I need that sign that says, ” I don’t hem pants or replace zippers!”

Mary, your blog has been a lifeline this past year. Thank you for all your work keeping it going.

Kris, great news about your cancer free scans! Prayers that you will remain cancer free.

    2. Sunflower 🌻 from Michigan

      Kris,
Congratulations on your clean scans! I’m so happy for you. Hurry with that zipper so you can get back to sewing something fun! 🌻

Kris, good news indeed on your scans! Keep doing what’s giving you good results.

Nasty weather is coming to us on Sunday with lots of snow and very cold. Saw a Robin yesterday so I know spring is coming, wish it would hurry up. Yes I know how to send you a picture and thank you for explaining once again about patters. I appreciate when you do offer patterns and the price is gift considering the work involved. Lots of us and one of you. Our daughter got a service dog, so we have a new addition to the family. The dog’s name is Laney, and she is a year old. Our daughter traveled to Minnesota and worked with an organization called Believet. Upon completion of 126 hours of training (daughter and dog) and the Laney passing a rigorous test, she is now certified as a Service Dog. Our daughter served in the Marine Corps and was injured. Laney is wonderful addition to our family.

    HI Mary,
Obviously, I found you. Not sure why, but your last two emails did not come through as they always have. I thought you were sick or something happened so that’s why I emailed to see you if you were ok. Sorry. I will look into it. Photos–yes, I know how to send. I even know how to write on them, but then an “update” which I think is a misnomer, made it different. Finally got it figured out.
Here is an answer that might help. We had a kind of curmudgeon of a teacher who taught only seniors. He said and posted on his wall, “ASKED AND ANSWERED”. We all posted it, too, and it helped b/c the students in grades 9–12 began (SLOWLY) to realize we were NOT going to say something 6 or more times. . Might work for you.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Rick. I bought my husband one piece of Carrot Cake, too. Great minds:)

  6. Gail in Ohio

Yep – I do know how to send you a photo, and maybe I’ll send some more one of these days! 🙂
Chilly here in east central OH today after a very rainy and breezy day yesterday. The temps here are swinging wildly from day to day – from the sixties to the thirties and back. I want very much to get back to sewing things I WANT to sew, but I have a couple of zippers to replace first. On top of that, I’m still hobbling around with some hip pain – getting older ain’t for sissies!!
I’m waiting for the daffodils here – spring is coming. Enjoy the pups – sorry about the flip-flop!

  7. Jo in windy Wyoming

I know how to send pictures, I just don’t get my name on all if them. I don’t always remember how to “mark up”. Oh, well.
My new, great big (60lb) grand puppy is doing very well at her new forever home.
I may have forgotten to introduce her to you all.
She is a Saint Bernard rescue puppy. 10 months old, big, slobbery and blind. Her name is Kira.
So many activities are a challenge for her, but she is learning quickly. Yesterday she got down from the chair. That is a big challenge for her. She was adopted on Monday, so all new voices, environment, obstacles. She is catching on quickly.

I hope to get my taxes finished today…such fun🙃, plus we are having dangerous winds for the next 2 days. Gusts up to 100 mph.
At school we got a cabinet to store our sewing supplies. I don’t have to carry heavy bags up and down stairs. So much nicer. Yesterday, I overheard two students talking. One said “this is the best part of my day”, the other replied “ this is the best part of my week”. That makes ya feel good.

Mary, reading your blog is the best way to start my day…THANK YOU.

Good morning, Mary – is the email address on your blog the best one to use?
If so, I’ll follow up with a note. Thank you!

It’s funny how I put off sending photos. I have an iPhone. I send them on the email. I look for the paper clip thingy that tells me I want to do an attachment. I always chose to send the photo full size. Works for me so far.
Must be frustrating to deal with some people, especially the pushy ones. You have to stand your ground. Most of us realize you are retired and will offer a pattern you chose to make available because you are kind. Wise not to cave to few who think they can get around the rules and start dictating to you. I think of Gretchen Rubin’s book on tendencies. Some people are just rebels and you have to ignore them.

Carolyn – thanks for your support – I refuse to be a slave to these pattern requests! I’m obviously not doing it for the money.

  10. Fran Dixon

I can relate to the piecing ability. I am older than you are Mary. But I am not giving up on it. I still enjoy it!

I am home from retreat and ready to dig in. I have a tax return to do but otherwise I feel like a free bird to sew my days to the fullest.

  11. Beryl BC

I forgot to look for the basketball game yesterday. It sounds like we didn’t miss much.
I had to read a second time to realize it was a flipflop. I’m thinking that is one of the rugs you made beside it.
As far as sending pictures, it is correct to send to Mary’s email. On my desktop computer, the email is on the right side of screen. On my phone, it is near the bottom of the screen; one might have to scroll down quite a bit. It’s easiest for me to send a picture from my phone.

It’s finally stopped raining, but boy is it chilly! Have to love false spring. Today is income tax day for me & I’m always glad to get this behind me. I appreciate my tax lady & know how hard this time of year is, as my late husband had an income tax business for almost 40 yrs. Makes you wonder what Hank will find next to chew up! Hope he outgrows this. Pictures…yes, I know how to send a picture to you. It’s been mentioned multiple times in your blog. Pictures have to be sent to Mary’s email. Yesterday was haircut day & I took Ron with me. He’s had a really hard time finding someone who will give him a nice trim. The last person must have thought he wanted “high & tight”!! He’s very pleased with my girl & exactly the type of cut he wanted. Hoping to have time to do a little sewing today. Take care everyone.

Alice – thanks for your confirmation – I really don’t know how to make everyone understand.

I think people believe all social media is the same. What little I look at on Facebook is totally different than a blog post. Comments, adding pictures, etc. None of it is the same as the other.
I’ll always stick by the belief your blog is an example of all the social media I need in a day except for emails from friends.

The flip flop cracked me up and for dogs sleeping behind your chair. My dog does that too. They love their people
I haven’t watched any sports since the Olympics. Be safe everyone!

Hi Mary, The remains of your pink flip flop made me laugh. Jasper is a destroyer also! Have a good day all!

  16. Kelli in N.E. Ohio

Can’t wait to see what you’re working on for the 250th bday of our country! I’ve always wanted to do a flag quilt amd have collected some red, white and blue fabric periodically. I finally decided to pull it out and do something. Looking forward to starting it soon.

Crazy weather here- 71 yesterday, 31 this morning. It’s March in Ohio 🤪

    Have a good Thursday everyone!
