It’s Rick’s 78th birthday today – he wanted Mexican for supper and instead of me baking a 9×13 carrot cake, I bought him one piece at the store. He would have eaten 1 piece from the pan and guess who would have eaten the rest.
Moe and Hank are good doggies – I don’t have much trouble with either of them but getting out the door with 4 dogs is a lot! Hank likes to eat stuff he shouldn’t so I’m asking him what’s in his mouth a lot. Haha! As if he’s going to answer me.
I took a couple quilt pictures today but no, I do not have a pattern.

This is a simple 9 patch but the red floral fabric is so wonderful, it did all the work. This was on Keeper’s couch and several readers asked about it.
This was on my table for Valentine’s Day. I have no idea what pattern I used about 30 years ago.

Tomorrow afternoon Caitlyn is playing in the USA team in Puerto Rico. I think we will be able to see it on TNT or TruTV at 3:30 central. Please double check these details – I’ve tried to check in so many places.

Enjoy the game!

I, too, zeroed in on the featherweight case in the photo of Hank NOT lying on the rug put down for him. After I bought it, I couldn’t stand the musty odor inside the featherweight case so put the machine into a rolling tote, and kept the case in the garage. Hank is a handsome dog! Thank you for all your work putting together these interesting blog posts!!!!
Happy Birthday to Rick! His piece of carrot cake would work for me too. The quilt pics and pets are so nice today. The flying geese with the moon is fabulous! And the sampler is just stunning! Way above my skill level.
Have a good evening.
Wonderful quilts today! Also dogs, cats & jokes. Happy birthday to Rick. Mexican food & carrot cake sounds like a celebration.
Happy Birthday Rick and Martha! Carrot cake is a winner in my book! Vicki in Seattle, you just gave a mini tutorial in an excellent way to use up triangles and flying geese from your stash. This blog is full of inspiration! Teresa in Indiana, the use of muted patriotic colors with tans – great color wave for the 250th birthday.
Iowa spring is quite a mix of weather conditions, I’m learning. How about 101 degrees on St. Patrick’s Day? That’s what is predicted for next week in central Arizona. TOO SOON!
Jan, my DD’s this year are bags from my “Parts Department.” #6 was a bag of bonus triangles and it was really fun to play around with them!🌞
Happy birthday to Rick and Martha, too!
I also noticed that little Singer hiding there!
I heard on WHO radio this morning that Caitlyn’s game is on TRU TV at 4:00 p.m. central time. It’s also on a couple other places but I was not familiar with them.
Enjoyed all the pictures. My DD #6 will most likely not get done this month as our kids are here this week to remodel one of our bathrooms and moving the washer and dryer to the pantry off our kitchen. I am not doing much of the work, but my whole downstairs will be a dusty mess and I will be cleaning all next week. They are here through Saturday. It will be really nice when done. They thought we needed a larger shower. And then I hear on the radio that we are suppose to get snow on Sunday, the day they plan to drive home to Ohio and North Dakota.
So that’s what is happening in my corner of the world this week!
Jeanine – you’re so lucky you have those kids who will come to help you! I’m ready for the game!!
I have two adult kids who are very willing to come help us. Actually it was their idea to do this so we just let them do what they think they need to do for us. We are grateful for them.
Happy birthday Rick and Martha! Carrot cake is my favorite too, and every year my daughter makes me a carrot cake from an old Bon Appetit recipe. I cut the cake up into small pieces, freeze it and have a piece or two every month. That way I can spread out the “if it tastes this good, it can’t be good for me” guilt over a whole year.
Thanks for all you do with the blog – the quilts and animal pics are always great.
Happy birthday Rick! I think carrots cake is perfect for birthdays.
A member of my guild passed away on Thanksgiving. Her family is donating much of her fabric to us. Yesterday we cut 71 quilt kits from the flannel they gave us. 71!! And we still have so much more. I think my stash is manageable after hearing about her renting a garage for fabric storage.
Today I’m cutting strip from leftovers of yesterday’s cutting day to make rag quilts. My shoulder is sore, but not complaining as I think of yours. 😉
Snowing here but only sticking on the grass. 70 on Monday, tornadoes yesterday, snow today and now I hear more significant snow on Sunday. Sigh .. Welcome to spring in Iowa.
Great quilts today. Happy Birthday to Rick and Martha. Our family likes carrot cake too, your idea was great, we don’t need that much cake. We had snow again all day yesterday, yet all day they said it would rain. Luckily it didn’t accumulate too much. Winter here always does this, we get some warm sunny days and you think-there we go spring has sprung, and then winter says not quite yet. Hope this is it and we can get some warmer weather. I finished the quilt top for my DD and layered and quilted it yesterday. I have physio this morning and then Costco so will work on the binding when I get home. Will send a picture when I’m done.
Happy Birthday to Rick and Martha. We get our cake the same way. Neither of us needs it. We often quarter the large piece the store sells and get a taste of cake with our fruit twice.
The quilts are beautiful. Your red one is so pretty and shouldn’t need a pattern. I like the bonus triangles with moon.
We are listening to the weather radio giving alerts frequently. Just now, there is a tornado warning about 60 miles north of us.
Happy Birthday, Rick! Enjoy your “9” year. Mexican and carrot cake sound like the perfect menu.
Today’s quilts are inspiring – Teresa gets so much done! All you folks make my kind of quilts.
And I like the shamrock banner, with its real three-leaved shamrocks. So many “shamrock” quilts these days have four leaves (easier to piece). But those are clovers, not shamrocks!
Happy birthday to Rick and Martha. Hope you both enjoyed celebrating. Carrot cake sounds wonderful! Today it’s raining again & very windy. So of course we have a tornado watch in effect. Temps are supposed to plummet by the weekend with snow expected! Yep, it’s Spring in SW Ohio! Love the quilts today & especially love your red quilt, Mary! Nice use of that pretty red floral. My next door neighbor just adopted a new dog named April. I’ve not met her yet, but is a mixed breed. Kathi said she’s very sweet & about 6 yrs old. Small & medium size dogs are very hard to find at the shelters here. Only history on April is that she was seized from her owner. April is a luck dog to have Kathi as her new momma!
Alice – how fun to meet a new “lucky” dog – you’ll have to send me a picture! Hugs to Boots!
Happy birthday, Rick! Wish you many more! Carrot cake sounds wonderful with cream cheese frosting! Yum!
We woke to white snow this morning. What’s the old saying about robins getting snow on their tail feathers how many times?
I love all the animal pictures! And all the quilts! Beautiful! I’m surprised Hank doesn’t want to lay on your feet!
My screws are loose and I could use a grease zerc installed in a few joints!
Have a great day!
Joy – Hank wants to be VERY close to me – he eats stuff outside or wherever he can find it which scares me. His mom says it’s because he’s seeking attention. Oh, the happy scene when Mom arrives to pick him up!
Spectaculor is exactly the right word for that cross-stitch pattern. I have looked at it several times and vowed to NOT buy it. LOL. I have a half dozen x-stitch patterns planned to mark the semiquincentennial and I do not “need” to add that beautiful piece to my list. But…oh, my goodness, it is SO tempting.
PS Mary, hope you did not get too much wild weather last night.
Love those flying geese quilts.
Snow this morning in Harlan, IA. Streets are clear tho. I am at retreat returning home later today.
Another great blog post as always! Animals and quilts are always winners. I’m so impressed that you even have a quilt hanging in your garage. Was also wondering about the significance (if any) of your license plate?
Bonnie – I have several quilts hanging in the garage – they get very dusty however. No, my license plate has no significance. Oh, Red is soooooo dirty!
Happy Birthday Rick – 🎂🍺. I hope you had a great day and enjoyed your carrot cake. Fabulous quilts today and doggie pictures.
We have Direct TV and the game is not listed today at 3:30. Darn it. I suppose it will be like this the whole Fever season. If anyone can find the game on Direct TV please comment.
Gloria – I’m with you – I struggle to find the games and I hate it! Sometimes when I find it scrolling thru that particular station wasn’t even listed. We have CommOne which is pretty good but we do not have ESPN+ and many games are there.
I searched again for channels and one place said the games are on TNT which I get but there were no games listed there. Darn! We do get ESPN plus so I can watch most of the games during the regular season.
Happy birthday Rick. Hope you at least got a bite of the carrot cake. Beautiful quilts today. I see Hank looks like he is guarding a Featherweight. Do you ever use your Featherweight? Mine is usually my travel machine. Depends on what I’m working on at the time. Spring will be here soon, and all the yard work that goes with it. Happy stitching!
Lynn – I have 2 Featherweights and never use them because my trusty Bernina is sitting right there. And since I never go anywhere they don’t have any place to go either. When we were traveling we had fabric bags and designated carriers – they fit under the seat in a plane.
When you said that you had to ask, “What’s in your mouth?” often with the dog, it reminded me of the Progressive commercial about the dog park. If you haven’t seen it, you can find it on You Tube. It will bring a smile to your face, especially after a day with all the dogs. Smart idea with the birthday cake. Saving time and calories. As usual, your pictures of quilts are inspiring.
Love all the quilts! I know I say this alot, but its such fun to see the wide variety ! And Vicki what a wonderful way to use up flying geese – great work!
I definitely have lost my screws!
The sampler is gorgeous 😍
Kelli – yes, we are a diverse group!
Kathryn – yes, I know that commercial well and live it every day with Hank here.
Happy Birthday, Rick! Carrot cake was my husband’s favorite too. I could eat half the cake too, Mary. Great quilts and animal pictures today. Love the jokes too!
Barney grabs my heart!!!!!!
Great pictures tonight of animals and all the quilts. I would love for someone to make that cross stitch for me!
Happy Birthday to Rick. Hope he had a great day and loved his slice of cake.
Lovely quilts tonight. Do you have a plan for mending the chair? Is that a habit of Hank’s. Our dog used to nip at the wool rug. Border Collies have those tiny little teeth in the front. Perfect for nipping sheep. HaHa
I found the basketball schedule but was not able to send a screenshot here. How do I send a photo here?
Go to SportingNews.com & it lists the women’s basketball schedule
Karen – you and nobody is allowed to post on my blog! Imagine the chaos if all the readers posted all the stuff they’re interested in!!!! You can only send photos to my email.
I also love the quilt from Keeper’s sofa; I will keep it in my “someday” folder.
Happy Birthday to Rick. My hubby loves carrot cake, too. Fortunately, my dil likes to make them occasionally.
Take Care/Watch Out For Storms, 🥰
Mary, I had a hard time finding the game in Puerto Rico but finally found it on Thurs March 12 at 7:45 pm on truTV. to sure which time zone. Can’t figure out why it is so difficult!! Go Caitlyn & go USA!
Happy Burthday Rick, enjoy your slice if cake!
Vicki’s quilt with the leftover triangles and the moon is so unique. My birthday is tomorrow and we are going out for Mexican food, too. Happy belated birthday to Rick.
Martha – don’t you wish we could go out for Mexican together?
Haopy Birthday Martha! 🎂🎈🎁🥳🎉
I’ve seen that cross stitch also & really like it. Problem is I’m still beginning & that might take me years.
Happy birthday to Rick! Carrot cake sounds so good! Lovely quilts tonight. Love, love that red one from Keeper’s chair and the churn dash was striking in it’s simplicity. Will have to take photos for my idea folder.
Great quilts – and you’re right, the red in yours is great!
I had a cat several years ago that liked to lay behind my rolling chair – he learned not to after I rolled into him a couple times. Fortunately I wasn’t rolling too quickly so he didn’t get hurt!
