Get ready for a treat! 5 -15-26

Our reader friend, Li, sent me pictures of some of her plaid quilts and I loved looking at them and now you will, too.

Thank you, Li!

It was a big day for “the girls” because I let them outside – they weren’t very afraid – they followed me right out and started nibbling on grass. And then everybody met nose to nose at the gate.

Keeper likes them and when I let Hazel in she did a play bow to see if they might play with her! Not yet.
I pulled the hayrack up close for them.

As I was watching the Fever game, we did have a severe thunderstorm –

Surrounding communities got golf ball size hail – we just got rain and it was welcome. Speaking of the Fever game, I almost got too disgusted to watch. Free throws are called that for a reason – they’re FREE!!! Nobody should ever miss a free throw – they could have won. I know – I’m a fair weather fan. 🤨

Didn’t get the hydrangeas trimmed, didn’t run the vacuum, didn’t do any laundry. Tomorrow.

Linda thinks these babies will fly tomorrow!!

Mary, all the plaid quilts…beautiful. I love her color-ways! And your goats are very colorful too!!💕
Thanks for a beautiful blog post!!!

  2. Sue Smith

I agree. It is stunning and I Love it. He will love it too. All the plaid quilts are so much fun to see. Thanks, Mary. The goats are so sweet. Looks like they are loving their new home. Yes, Thersa…Show us your ribbon quilts.

The goats are adorable. How many “old goats” do you have? Will they all be together at a later time? Such fun.

The plaid quilts are all show stoppers. Such imagination and use of color is just a feast for the eye. Also such quilting precision is just as interesting as the quilt itself. I’m in love! Thanks to all who sent pictures for us to dream about.

Pat – I have only 2 old goats left and neither are in the best shape – they’re in an adjoining pen with the little girls at night and I plan for them to live together eventually if they live that long. At one point I had 20 goats. Sigh. At my age I think 4 are all I can handle.

I have never made a plaid quilt but I now know what I’m missing. I guess I’ll have to look for plaid shirts.
Real windy here and chilly. The high will be 61. Maybe frost in the morning,so I’ll have to cover some plants tonight.
I love the goats, they look so friendly. Have a great weekend

I had the same thought. NOW I understand what the plaid buzz is all about! I’ll have to check DH’s closet for possibilities. Kris in WI

Donita and Sarah are adorable 🥰!!! Love the last quilt, free pattern of blue jeans and squares!

  6. Ginger S in New Hampshire

Beautiful quilts today. So many shirts made into such beautiful quilts. Love the goats. Fun to watch them learn about their new surroundings. I wonder if Hayrack will share her space with them or if she will find a new spot to hangout away from the bulies in “the Hood”.

Ginger – when I moved the hayrack I decided not to mow the tall grass and also left her a bench to take cover under. Maybe the girls will include her?

Love The photos this morning. The plaid quilts are so interesting. They look so down to earth and comfy.

The goats are so cute! Soon they will be romping with Hazel.

The thunderstorms went around us so we got no rain. We had straight-line wind that somehow took a piece of wood from under a post and deposited it on my porch. Now how do I replace that? I need a new post that a gutter runs down so very needed. So now figure that one out. And then yesterday I had a crack appear on my windshield of my car. Another needed fix. Well, at least it’s not my body breaking down LOL! Despite all this I am off on a bus trip to Dulluth. MN Tuesday. It all can wait until I get back!

Mary, I was wondering if you would get rain! That big thunderhead started just to the east of us. Our daughter, Sandy, took a picture of it. I will send it to you.
The goats and the dogs greeting each other is so cute!
Loved all the quilts! Such perfection in some if the plaid blocks! Wow!

Oh Mary! What a fabulous quilt show! Thanks to all who shared! And Mary the last picture of the goats seems to say it all….such a happy smiling little face! You Mary are a true blessing to all your animals!

WOW! The quilt show is awesome!
I love the goats! Such sweet little faces that you want to nuzzle!
Looks like storms all weekend into Monday. Stay safe!

I love quilts with houses. Family Love Home Friends is one I would like to make.

We’ll enjoy following Donita and Sarah’s story. Mom would have loved this! I bought your Oh, Susannah book for mom. She kept it in a magazine holder with her country living magazines and looked at it often.

So many beautiful plaid quilts, thank you all for sharing! I’m really going to enjoy watching Donita & Sarah grow up. Such pretty girls. I’m so glad you decided you weren’t too old to get them. Those girls are so lucky to have you as their new owner! This morning I’m going to a small local business to see about having vinyl installed in my living room & dining room. Hoping I can match what I have in the kitchen. After that I’m going to take new flowers for my in-laws & sister in law’s graves. My SIL’s kids live in FL & I’m happy to do this. Ron of course comes with me & we eat at a wonderful little diner near by. The owner of the diner has made it his mission to honor all the veterans! He has pictures of all veterans he’s come in contact with all over the walls. Since Ron is a Korean war vet, it’s the highlight of his day! Everyone have a good weekend.

All those wonderful quilts are a feast for the eye.

Its going to be so much fun to follow your goats.

Cindy K – the back is just as awesome as the front! I’m sure your grandson will love this quilt forever!
    Great pics today! Thanks everyone.
I agree. Fever couldn’t make a free throw. Disappointing game for sure.
Have a wonderful weekend all. I’m working our quilt show today. Much to my surprise, I won several ribbons.

    1. Cindy K

Thank you. It took 3 months to make. I thought for sure I wasn’t going to get it done. Worked on it everyday-sometimes a little, sometimes a lot.

      1. Mary Etherington Post author

Cindy – I’m impressed that readers know it was your quilt and not Ii’s so that tells me they’re reading the comments!!!
I’ve certainly been thinking about you and your family.

      2. Mary Etherington Post author

Cindy – I went back and looked at your quilt again and was just mesmerized. How big are those churn dash blocks – there’s a lot of them! I hope he loves his quilt and appreciates your dedication – I sure do!

  15. Lynette in Orlando

    Love all the quilts!!!! Beautiful.

The goats are too cute …….. ❤️

  16. Sandy McPherson

Hi Mary, fabulous quilts today! Must dig mine out! Went to a friend’s place today ,couldn’t get off the low toilet seat! Just about called the ambulance for help! My knees are a problem, better to stay home with home comforts! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

    1. Pamela Dempsey in Northeast Texas 😻

Oh, Sandy, I know that feeling! I hate squatty potties! I fear getting stuck. I have resorted to putting my hand on the side of the seat or in front to help push up and off and it helped. Sorry it took much information but it helped.

  17. Charlotte in No. California

I’m really loving plaid quilts. Thank you Mary for posting all these pictures. Great show today! Such pretty goats.
I’m going to my granddaughter’s high school graduation tomorrow and party afterwards. She has been homeschooled but has been meeting with other homeschoolers since middle school.
    Have a great weekend everyone!

  18. Jo in Wyoming

    What a treat indeed. THANKS
Those goats are adorable, remind me again their names. Donell’s and who?
Tomorrow I’m going to Laramie to see my kids and play with my grandog Kira.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Jo – Donita is named for Don who has MS and doesn’t walk well – she’s a bit lame from an early injury so they match. I’ll probably just call her Donnie. And Sarah is named for Don’s wife – Sarah. Give Kira a big hug from me.

  19. Nancy Schulz

Wow, what a quilt show! Thank you to all the quilt makers and to Mary for sharing them. Love all the hand quilting!

  20. Cindy K

Nice quilts-love quilts made from plaid shirts. And actually, Li didn’t send the first one. I made it for my grandsons graduation. The second photo is the back.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Cindy – I am sooooo sorry – I will post again – see what I mean about getting so many pictures! My apologies. I’ll fix this!!!

      1. Cindy K

It’s understandable. I’m sure it’s hard to keep track of all of the photos sent to you. And I too watched the game. So close-so disappointing.

    2. Li

Cindy, there you are setting a new standard for the back of a quilt. Very creative. Really pops when using plaids.
