I’ve read the debate about cutting back hydrangeas for years. Sometimes I’ve cut them back in the fall and sometimes the spring. So far this year I’ve done nothing and look at these sad things.

So this will be one of my jobs tomorrow. Today the wind was blowing hard from the south and I mowed – ugh! And I tried to move the hayrack and couldn’t get it to budge. So – tomorrow.
I’d still like to get more plaid quilt pictures.

I would love to send a photo of my plaid quilt done on point and started at the end of 2024. However…..it gave me problems so I put it away to finish at a future date. That flimsy is nowhere to be found! I thought maybe it was put away with Christmas and would show up Christmas, 2025. Nope. Still missing.
Hi Mary…Hope you had a nice day today. I loved seeing all the plaid quilts. Makes me want to jump in and make one. I adore plaids. I use them here and there, but have never featured them in a quilt.
BTW…Did you receive my quilt called Serendipity. Also, I sent you a new pic today. I am still having trouble with my email system and recently moved to Gmail. Now having trouble syncing everything. Oh my! My daughter gets tired of helping me, I think. Eye rolls she doesn’t think I see. HaHa
Opps…please delete this last comment. I didn’t think the first one went through, but now I see it. You can only laugh at yourself when these things happen.
Sue – well, how long ago? I get so many!!!
Sue – I checked back to April 1 and don’t see it but strangely it sounds familiar. Would you be so kind and send it again?
Elliott says Hello Hazel! 2 more weeks of school for him and he can’t wait for summer. The kids get so squirrelly the last few weeks.
Sewing with my small group tomorrow. Sit, stitch, and eat. Repeat lol.
Mary, did you plant a garden? If I remember right, you said you were done after the pumpkins.
Diana – nothing is even tilled yet – Rick will put in tomatoes and I have one pkg of pumpkins – it all sounds fun now until it’s 95 degrees and I should weed
Hi Mary…Hope your day is going well. I love all the plaid quilts. Makes me want to get in and make one but too tired after spending time outside every day. Plus, I am trying to finish UFO’s when I sew. I will send a pic of my latest table runner. Speaking of photos….I think you did get my graduation quilt pic but haven’t seen it yet. I am so forgetful these days. Wondering if I even sent it or dreamed I did. Ha
Sue, Send it again! I would love to see what you have made! Lucky recipient too!
Sue – I will sure try to find it
I trim my hydrangeas in the spring. I don’t know if I trim them enough. I think they are over 6 ft high now.
My dad has received 26 cards in 3 days. He is loving reading the notes and seeing where they come from. He said to be sure and tell you “thank you “. He needs to explain to the mailman why he’s getting so much mail. I didn’t realize how important sending these cards are. It takes a little loneliness out of your day! We need to keep this great idea up Mary.
Loving the plaid quilts!
LOVE it!!! I hope his birthday is fantastic! I have a needlework that says “One kind word can change someone’s entire day” That’s how I view the cards. A small gesture that means a lot. Think of the impression on the mailman!
Charlotte, Thanks for an update on the cards your Dad has received so far and, how much he appreciates them. Thanks too,Mary, for recognizing the importance of the kind gesture of sending a card.
Charlotte – the cards have a whole life of their own and that has become very clear to me – not only for the receiver but the senders benefit, too. When I started this I never had any idea it would become a “thing” but I’m so glad it has!!
I’m so glad you started it too, Mary. I’ve always enjoyed sending the cards but once I had mailed it, I never really thought much about how the receiver would feel when they got it. Now I know. It’s really important!!
Thank you! Thank you!
Love all the plaid quilts today, especially the Candy Camera and the blue & white. I have some plaid quilts–need to send pics. Fantastic picture of Three–he’s so handsome! Got back Monday from a 5-day trip to New York State (to visit cousins we hadn’t seen in 15 years) and to Maryland (to visit daughter and family). It was a LOT of driving! We rented an automatic transmission SUV (weren’t thrilled about doing all those mountains in a manual transmission). The weather was great, though, thankfully. Have spent the last few days playing catch up.
Love the plaid quilts & especially the goat quilt & the explanation of it! I don’t have any plaid quilts…yet. I have all my husband’s flannel shirts & plan to make lap blankets from them soon. Right now I’m trying to finish projects that I started years ago & never finished. Remember Thimbleberries? I have some of those tops that just need to be quilted. And some I don’t even remember piecing! I love the DD idea as it makes me pull out these projects & finish them! Thank you, Mary! I decided to join a gym & go a couple of times a week, so that cuts into my sewing time now. I’m hoping the exercise will keep my arthritis from getting worse.
Love the goat quilt and the humor with it!
I am home for 4 days and then a bus trip to Duluth. MN. Hair cut appointment today. This all means no sewing but hey I just came off a retreat, so I am good to go! Don’t know when I will get flowers for my porch and deck. Maybe squeeze in some planting on Monday.
I do enjoy this blog every day, especially when I am home with a cup of coffee. Don’t over do Mary. I do admire your tenacity. You get so much done in a day!
The plaid quilts today are fabulous! I could not decide which is my favorite..and Hazel and darling Three! I have to fill my jelly containers and oranges need to be replaced for the orioles and fill the bird baths as well. The wind yesterday was terrible, I did not want to do anything outside. I went to my sister’s and made 4 batches of banana bread..two large loaves and 10to 12 small ones. It was assembly line baking and dishes and her kitchen was as neat as a pin when I got done…she does t really bake, I did all the work…I am the oldest, she is youngest it seems we do everything…and saves bananas but doesn’t really bake..kinda funny. I am off to take my morning walk as soon as I get the bird stuff done. I will make banana bread here, just one batch tho. It is a project day around here. Cleaning out stuff. It never ends. It is 76* here already and it is supposed to get into the high 80’s today. Rain tomorrow…actually more rain your way.
Cynthia – I love your “story” about banana bread – sounds good to me right now! You’re very busy, too, with outside stuff – which I love. This is my favorite month of the year – warm days without humidity although we’ve had way too much wind!!! Right now I have 4 pair of rose breasted grosbeaks at my feeder off the porch. Lovely.
June, wonderful and fabulous June is ‘MaY’ month…my birthday month too! Gotta have it all! I am done with bird feeders, bird baths, my walk and now have to run errands, look at petunias and get back home to clean out and arrange something at least. Kitchen today.
Love all the plaid quilts. Especially the goat! Hi Hazel! She isn’t digging! Surprise, probably doesn’t like the wind!
Joy – picture of Hazel was taken late so she’s exhausted – probably too much digging?
Those goats are adorable! I’ve made a quilt with cows and another with chickens…but goats…hmmmm
The Goat quilt explanation gave me a chuckle, and what a treat to see quilts in plaids. I find cutting plaids a challenge. I do have a wonderful bundle of shirting plaid so now might be time to jump in. Your hydrangea bushes are glorious. Do they all bloom the same color? Our family is off to Mexico for a vacation, both kids are joining us and speak Spanish. Ready for some sunshine and sand.
Kim – wow, what a vacation – you’re taking a break from all that yard work! When you get back you can open that bundle of plaid shirtings!!!
Hi Mary,
Oh my goodness. So many quilts.
Three days ago I sent along images of five quilts. I sent them again tonight. Please let me know here in the comments if you still have not seen them please. Thanks.
Good grief. Didn’t know I made so many plaid quilts. Just remembered another one.
Li – no! I have not seen your pictures – I just checked my email again, thoroughly, and nothing from you. Please check my email address:
maryehazel2020@gmail.com
Mary,
I tried sending three of the eight under another email account. If that works and you want more I will send the other five.
FYI. maryehazel2020@gmail.com is the address used in the last three days. Hope they all don’t arrive to your account at once. It might fill it up.
Hi Mary, thanks for showing my quilt, will try and dig my plaid quilt out of the glory box(where young girls used to collect linen before marriage)! Frustrating day ,tried 4 times to do click and collect shopping, kept ending up with empty trolley trying to do payment, computers are not my friend! Fortunately my son sorted it out, just about driven to drink! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Sandy, loved your explanation on your goat quilt. lol
Sandy – oh, do I understand your frustration with your computer – there are days my IPad and I are not good friends!! Glory Box – never heard that term.
Sandy — LOVE your goat quilt! your explanation gave me a bit of a chuckle.
