“Gotcha” Day, 3-17-23

I’m not much into celebrating St. Patrick’s Day but March 17 is also Hazel’s “gotcha” day! Yup, 6 years ago today we brought Hazel home from Colorado and our lives changed. Haha! She’s a pistol but very loved.

Baby shark teeth!
We were watching March Madness 6 years ago, too!

Baby pictures! Happy Gotcha Day, Hazel!

She is such a cutie!! One of mine had her Gotcha Day on March 10. She came to me 13 years ago when she was about 2 years old. Hugs,

Mareen – just FYI – it’s her gotcha day, not her birthday. Her birthday is January 11.

Happy Gotcha day, Hazel! Those baby pictures are so stinkin cute!! I have been following you for a little more than 6 years. You got Hazel just after I started following your blog. I’m watching March Madness, too.

  12. Louverna

Hazel is a cutie pie. The last picture should be on a birthday or get well card. It would be ideal!!!
My WV ountaineers went down the first game. Can you believe the upsets already? Go Princeton and all the underdogs. I love watching the games.

Hi Mary, lucky Hazel, lucky you! Dogs are such wonderful companions, love my Bella, even though she chases the cat next door! She has pulled the leash out of my hands and taken off after poor Ziggy a few times, but the cat teases her by sitting at my door way and watches Bella bark her head off! Give Hazel a hug from me, and take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

Mary remember when you went to Colorado to get Hazel. She was sooo little. Can’t believe it’s been 6 years. What a lucky dog. And lucky Mary and Rick.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Brenda in KS – it was fun to stop at your house! I will never forget Ron’s disbelief that we were actually traveling quite a distance to get a JRT! Now I think it’s just fun to tease him about how smart she is – haha!!!!

      1. Brenda Ks

He loves it. He still can’t believe how well she does around all your other animals. You are definitely a dog whisperer

Oh Happy Day😀. I remember that day and how little she was! Those baby pics are sooo cute and she is still adorable. Lots of fun with March Madness. It is cold here and this weekend. It went from 50* this AM to 37* now. Maybe it will warm up next week.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Diane – this is hard to believe but our wind chill this morning was -10! Brrrr – we just stay inside and watch BB!

Hazel is a star, no doubt, and she is so photo friendly. Keep on enjoying this young lady, and by the way, she hit the jackpot when she came home with you.

Hazel, Hazel, Hazel….what a sweet girl.
    Happy day to her.

I’m sick of cold, snow and pot holes!! We woke up to more snow this morning and very cold wind.
    Will it ever be spring?

We are heading to Colorado Sunday for a week to visit with our son, daughter-in-law and 2 granddaughters. Never been there before and hoping I won’t have any issues with altitude sickness since I’m coming from Florida.

  25. Marilyn Miller

Hazel is such a cutie! She knows how to pose, too, doesn’t she! Thanks for sharing her pics. Happy Gotcha Day, Hazel♥️

  26. Joy in NW Iowa

    Happy gotcha day! Awesome!
It is gusty again this early evening with drifting!
Sewed and worked on a couple cards.
That’s about it. Pizza for supper.
    Hang in there

  27. Paula S.

Happy Gotcha Day to Hazel! I love her as I love all terriers. I miss my boy Riley everyday…

  29. Diane in Colorado

Awwww! I love Hazel!!! I did not know she came to you from Colorado!! I love that!! Thank you for giving her the best life a dog could ever hope for!!!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Diane – she came from Elizabeth, CO, Rancho Fiasco is the breeder. We stayed at their house and drove all the way home the next day with me in the back of the van with her most of the time. When I brought her in the house I remember Becky saying “Oh, she’s so little!” Do you remember the dog named Blanche that we took to friends in CO? It was this couple who took her and found a great home because they used to raise them. Yes, we have dog ties to CO!

  30. Carolyn Boutilier

Lots of love Hazel. Shenandoah Valley today 62 degrees wind and some rain.
Working on Kaffee Fassett wedding quilt for my granddaughter.

Knowing how wonderful and fun Hazel is I feel encouraged that my husband and I will get to the other side of our corgi, Finley Petunia’s baby shark teeth! The picture says it all. And biting is soooooo much fun!

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Cheryl – I remember the picture of Finley showing her teeth just like Hazel! I should take a picture of Hazel’s incisors today – they’re squared off because she hangs on the edge of the feed room door!!!!!

  32. Kathy in western NY

Is it really 6 years ago you got her! Gosh time flies. She is such a sweetie but I love terriers. I don’t remember much somedays but do remember the exact dates our gotcha days of our two rescues we have now. Give her an extra petting tonight from me here.

  33. Lynn

Mary, love all your pictures of Hazel. She is so cute and a true terrier. I always had terriers and love their personality. I now have goldens.

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Lynn – I had 3 rescue goldens over the years and loved them but always felt so guilty because they needed me so terribly. Keeper must have some golden in him since I feel like he’s hooked on to my ankle! Haha!!

  34. Ginny

I remember baby Hazel and baby Arlo playing together, so cute❤️
It’s hard to believe they are six already. Love sweet, spunky Hazel.

  35. Sue in Oregon

I love Hazel’s baby photos. She was adorable and she still is. 6 Years! I can hardly believe it.
How does she hang on a door? Take a photo of that if you can.
Our weather finally started to feel like spring…and, then, it turned back. At least it shot the daffodils up higher and blooming.

  36. Alice in SW Ohio

What sweet pictures of Hazel! I’m sort of partial to white dogs, although I’ve had a couple of black/ gray rescues. Hazel just has so much personality! And is so photogenic! She’s one lucky dog!! 🐾

  37. Gloria from CC

Happy Gotcha Day Hazel!!🎉💕. You can tell by the look in her eyes that’s she’s mischievous, highly intelligent, and loves her mom. What a character.💕

  38. Sue in Marion, IN

Hazel is just adorable! That puppy picture in front of the colorful quilt is priceless!

  39. Joy in NW Iowa

March 18….another day of cold wind blowing snow. Total white out conditions last evening at going home from work time! Interstate 29 closed Sioux Falls to North Dakota and I 90 Sioux Falls to chamberlain. Yikes. Daughter and family caught in it! Not for the faint of heart! The plow came through yesterday afternoon but not sure if it will be open by tonight.
I’ll hide in my cave. The drift out my window is getting higher!
Did you make Hazel a cake?

    1. Mary Etherington Post author

Joy – last night around supper time we had a heavy snow squall so bad I could not see the barn! It didn’t last long but it was scary and not predicted at all. We had no idea it was bad in your area!

  40. Carolyn in GA

Have a party color yorkie lying in the sun this morning. He is something else. Cold in north central GA, wind blowing. 80 by Friday. Everything has just about bloomed out and the Wisteria has been spectacular this year, forests covered in shades of purple, beautiful. Hazel is a very lucky dog to be loved so much.

  41. Jan Smith

Happy birthday to Hazel! She is so photogenic. Photo of her basking in the sunshine is precious.

  42. Beverly

That Hazel ! So full of spunk and so cute! A happy day for all of you. She fills your life with joy I’m sure
