I’d like to introduce Elaine Anderson, the mother of Martha W, Wyoming, one of our reader friends.

Elaine’s 100th birthday was February 16 and was celebrated with a small family gathering. On June 29 her family is hosting a public celebration.
Martha says:
She’s in pretty good health (has all her original “parts”) and still lives on the farm. Her mind is sharp and we lovingly call her the area’s walking history book. She recalls names of art students she taught back in 1946. She loves to read the daily local newspaper and the Minneapolis Tribune a couple times a week.
She will be thrilled to get cards. Please ask your readers to note in their card that they are a blog reader.
Mary here – evidently she was an art teacher, maybe before she was married? I also wonder about her hobbies, interests and what she likes to do to keep busy. Is her husband still living and on the farm or does she live there alone.
Thanks so much for sending a card to celebrate Elaine’s 100 birthday, a special event that deserves to be recognized!

Put your card in the mail asap and she might get many of them before the big celebration on the 29th!
And THANK YOU!!!

So many beautiful flowers and quilts over the past week.
Your new mower is a fine ride!
All of your chicks have turned into chickens or possibly a rooster. Have you named them all or just Lisa?
What a sweet picture of Hazel!
Just got my birthday card ready and will mail it in the morning! Thank you, Martha for sharing your mom with us.
I think it is so wonderful Elaine can still be in her own home! That does not always happen for seniors after they are past 90.
Martha, she is so cute. I hope she enjoys her party.
Thanks, Mary 🥰
Elaine’s card is all written out and headed to the post office this morning. What a wonderful milestone for her. I love hearing the background stories on all the card recipients you have introduced us to. Another life well lived.
Martha, As a follow up it would be fun to see some of her art if you could send Mary a picture. You all sound very fortunate to have a wonderful lady like her in your lives! Blessings
I will send a photo or two. It will be several days before I can though.
Done! What a wonderful family she has to keep her in her home. Thanks, Mary for
letting us know about her.
Card mailed out this morning.
Will get a card in the mail today!
I chuckled that Martha will have to explain what the blog is to her beautiful mom. I’d love to hear the questions on that conversation because many in that generation don’t understand computers and what they do. I was surprised to learn the history tidbit that married teachers couldn’t teach in 1947. I’ll get my card in the mail this morning as I’m taking a featherweight maintenance class at a local quilt shop to keep my grandmas machine in tip top shape just like Martha’s mom!
Kathy, yes I was surprised when my mother told me that they couldn’t teach after they married. In fact, she told me that a friend of hers taught PE until she married and had to quit. But, the school board couldn’t find an unmarried PE teacher so, she was rehired even though she was married. It would be interesting to find out if that situation opened the door for other married women to teach.
I agree Martha that your moms friend might have opened the door for a big change in the “rules” of no married teachers. My kindergarten teacher left to have a baby mid way and it’s funny how I always remembered how much I missed her. She’s in an assisted living home now with Alzheimer’s and her husband actually took a room near her to be close to care for her. I think that is so sweet. Both were teachers in mid 1950’s so rules must have changed by then.
Have fun with your mom’s celebration!
I’ll be happy to send her a card. Such a milwstone birthday!
My card to Elaine will be dropped in the mailbox in the morning. I hope she has fun at her party.
Thank you for introducing us to Elaine!
Thank you Mary for posting my mother’s information. Yes, she taught art for one year in St.Paul, MN. Then she married my Dad in 1947. Back in those days married teachers were not allowed to teach in schools. She was a talented watercolor artist. They farmed in the Minnesota River Valley. My dad passed away in 1997- three months before their 50th wedding anniversary. My mother sewed clothes for us six kids, and did lots of farm and household chores. These days she reads the newspapers and watches the birds. And since she lives by the MN River her road and land are flooding. However, in the 70 years she’s lived there her house has never been flooded. I have two brothers and a SIL who visit daily and do her shopping for her. She will love to receive cards and notes. She will be totally surprised. I’ll have to explain what a blog is to her. Haha!!
PARTY!!!! We love parties! I hope she’s not getting wet with the latest flooding.
