Happy Thanksgiving!

We all have much to be thankful for – I am especially thankful for the delicious meal Rick and I had at our church among friends this noon. And before we went to dinner I made short work of 13 dozen eggs for the dogs.

All were baked in muffin tins at 400 degrees in the oven.

I promised a pincushion show for this afternoon. All of these were gifted to me by Cindy Betzler who just didn’t want them to get thrown away and her friend, Barbara, told her about my collection. When I opened this box, I was blown away!

Tomatoes and emeries

Shoes

Brass

The little doll feels like bisque porcelain and the celluloid fruit basket hold a tiny tape measure.

Tube with tiny sewing kit

Wooden screw on clamp

Beaded pieces, one dated 1900

Miscellaneous needle books, thimbles, old embroidery

Cindy’s closing was this “Hope something enclosed is fun!” I loved it all and someday I’m going to sort out my pincushion display to accommodate all of these treasures.

More Dirty Dozen finishes:

And now for the final episode of Jack Ryan, Season 2. Off I go to my chair!

Hi Mary – Happy Thanksgiving. I think everyone of us in this country has a lot to be thankful for. I know you have said this before but, of course, i’ve Forgotten. What do you do with the eggs you cooked this morning? I’m thinking it has something to do with your dogs but I can’t remember what it is. I sure would like to do it for mine. I’m sure eggs are good for them. Thanks for your help. I LOVE your blogs every day. Your friend, Linda Hanley

Linda Hanley – I feed the eggs to the dogs and this is so much easier than fixing them in the microwave each day and waiting for them to cool. I freeze them in small batches and take out of the freezer as needed. They dogs love them and I always seem to have excess eggs.

We have community potluck at our church. Good food and had the whole family together except for one grandson in Navy overseas.
    Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Rick. Glad you were able to be with your church family for dinner.
I wish I was there to see the pincushions up close. They are beautiful – you were lucky to have someone think of you. Some more to be thankful for!

Happy Thanksgiving. There is always so much to be thankful for. Good to hear you had a nice day. Loved seeing your treasures.

Can we still order the Santa pattern?

      1. Peggy S

I bet MaryAnn is talking about the itty bitty Santa pattern that was $3 instead of the “Uncle Santa”

        1. CountryThreads Post author

Peggy S – what $3 Santa pattern are you referring to? I showed pictures of Uncle Santa – what made you think she didn’t mean that pattern????

What an amazing collection of pun cushions and notions! My Mom had one of the sewing kit in a tubes when I was growing up—think it was advertising for a business of some sort. Something tells me it’s around here somewhere yet!

Hope everyone has had a lovely day! I have so many blessings and am so grateful for them all!

Oh Mary, the pin cushion collection is incredible; a lot of historical pieces. You were the right person to receive them.
I love that first quilt. Yes, we have so much to be thankful for in this country.
Blessings to in your recuperation phase.

What a wonderful gift you shared is today. Thank you.
I love the dirty dozens finished.
Our highways are still treacherous so our company came a little late and left early, but they are all home safe and sound…for that I am most thankful.
There is a lot of snoring coming from the living room!! Loretta and “dad”

Happy Black Friday to everyone venturing out.

Happy Thanksgiving! What a wonderful gift of sewing treasures! Thanks for sharing with us. Sorting thru Larrys moms things ! I got a little wooden tube with thimble cover with a spindle inside holding tiny black and white threads. Spindle was hollow to hold needles. The red paint on outside was very chipped so was well used! Glad you are up and about! Take care in this winter weather!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!
The sewing item collection is really nice. The sewing kit in a tube reminds of one I got from my grandmother’s stuff; hers had Eastern Star insignia on the outside of the tube.

Lucky you Mary! Know the pincushions have an appreciative home.
We have about 3-4” of snow now, but the BIG one must have gone around both sides of our mountains.
Noticed lots of hoof n dog paw prints 🐾 all over when I was out on the porch briefly this afternoon.
Thanks for sharing your new collection!

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving, quite windy this morning & turned quite cold & a little snow tonight. Your pincushion collection is amazing as are all the dirty dozen. Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving!

Mary, the little fruit basket tape measurer, I have that from a great aunt who died thirty years ago. I think it’s rather valuable, a few hundred dollars if you find the right dealer. Not that you’re about to do that, I just wanted you to know. It’s a beautiful collection!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Carol at Pin Oak Quilting – really? I love the little treasure and I’ve considered leaving all the antique pincushions, etc. to a museum – maybe the Iowa Historical Society?

      1. Carol at Pin Oak Quilting

I think that would be a wonderful idea, while we all love to find treasures at the thrifty, your collections are too beautiful to split up.
My little fruit basket tape measurer is rather brightly painted, considering the age, while yours seem to be neutrals, is that wear or original, I wonder?
The woman I inherited from could not thread a needle, so I suspect it was used as an ornamental piece… hence, no wear and tear…she probably got it from her mom or from some thoughtful person who thought she should learn to sew!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Rick! The pin-cushions are so interesting! What a unique collection to have received!!

  19. Kathy Hanson

What an interesting pincushion collection, it was given to the right person. Sounds like you have been having a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are all so blessed for so many reasons. The Dirty Dozen quilts are so lovely, how great it has been for so many of us to have finished so many things! It was a fabulous idea to do that this year. Your dogs are lucky, I think my ‘granddog’ loves eggs too. It surprised me to find out how much they like them! Sounds like you are really getting a lot better. Hope you don’t overdo as it is always tempting to do that!!

  20. Sharon Bennett

Love all of those little pin cushions! I’ll keep an eye out for some and send them your way (where I know they will be appreciated)! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Glad you had a good Thanksgiving and didn’t have to be on your feet. When you have time can you please explain how we should close the ads and what we should not do. I’m shocked that big brother can know what we are doing. I do want to help but don’t want you to get fined. Thanks.

  22. Felicia Hamlin

Mary, I am glad that you went to eat at your church. It is always nice to be with the church family and I am sure the food was great. I have been enjoying the dirty dozen finishes. Very nice quilts. Wow! That is a lot of pincushions and you probably were like a kid in a candy store.
