Before Rick and I got married I hung out with a guy with three kids – the youngest was 7 and then 11 and 12. I have kept up with these kids almost pretending they were my own. They were back in Garner this weekend to visit their dad and they always come to see me. These kids now bring their kids to see me. Today it was all about the golf carts – I got my old cart from their dad about 32 years ago. Yup, this old cart that I drive everywhere.

Kids, dogs, adults – everybody got in the act. The littlest boy, Turner, turned out to be a pistol – right away he said he was going to drive and I asked if he knew how and he said no. Yikes. So after a couple of trips I said they were on their own. They couldn’t hurt the old cart and I wanted to talk to their parents so off they went,
Kate and her family live in New Jersey and Blake and his family live in Ankeny, IA, a couple hours from here.
As you can see Hankster was here today, too.

What a fun day!!

How nice that you have kept in touch all these years. Hazel looks like she’s got it all under control. And looks like she’s got a big smile on her face after an enjoyable day!
The good ole golf cart once again proves useful! Glad the kids come visit you so it shows their affection for you too.
We’re going to look at a used club car for camp. A man is bringing it to us next weekend to test drive it. We want another club car cause we need small tires so it will fit inside our shed. Many of the new golf carts have larger tires which makes their height unable to store inside our shed when we aren’t there. I don’t know why we feel we have to put ours inside when most of the people here at camp leave theirs outside too.
Kathy – yes, the good old cart is always the main attraction when kids come to visit-especially these kids because I bought it from their dad many years ago.
What life and joy kids bring! They are so precious. I have not been blessed with grandchildren. So sad. So whenever I get to be around younguns I am filled with joy. They are so full of conversation and have the most amazing things to say! Mary you are blessed. Thanks for sharing these happy moments.
Jean – oh, when I recall the conversation with the youngest little boy, I just chuckle. You’ll have to find some kids at church or your neighborhood and become friends. Kids are really fun – until they get into about Jr. High – haha!!
Love the joke! Too funny! The kids are great – love that the youngest wanted to drive. What is it about golf carts that make us want to drive them? I’d love one at camp but we really don’t have space for parking it. It would have to sit outside all winter too. Not ideal. The dogs all look so happy, what a great day you had! Jan in MA
What a blessing to be surrounded by kids and pets. And what a lovely story that those kids still want to come to see you. Thanks for sharing!
What a nice treat for you, kids, and the critters. All having fun on a beautiful day. Spending the weekend with my daughter and family in Chicago. Fun to spend time with grandson and Great Dane. Will enjoy a School of Rock jam session Sunday afternoon.
Love it! Making memories for the kids. Outdoor fun!
I am back from retreat and loving this cooler weather! Loved the retreat in NE at a farm house in the middle of soy bean fields. So quiet out there. End of a gravel rd. Feels like home as been going for yrs, twice a yr. Making memories!
Love the pictures. Looks like the dogs weren’t about to be left behind no matter who was driving. Hazel seems to be giving instructions. But, I especially love that picture of the cat and dogs. Thanks for sharing your story and the pictures of your special afternoon.
It’s starting to look like Fall here with touches of color already showing up in trees. Cooler evenings too. I love Fall but not particularly the long winter after.
Connie – yes, the dogs were in the thick of it all!
It looks like he had plenty of company with all the dogs piled in and around the golf cart. How fun!
Lovely story Mary
Looks like they had a lot of fun.
