I’d like to introduce you to a lovely lady from my church whose life is very full with family and friends. I have picked her as our next card recipient.

Esther is 85 years old and lives in Garner – she lost her husband of 62 years 3 years ago. Ray and Esther farmed in the area and Esther loved being outside helping with the milk cows and chickens. After Ray sold the herd of cows Esther kept one cow that she milked for her family’s use of milk and butter. She raised broilers for many years and then in the 1980’s she got a job in town at a business called PAR Products where curtains, cushions and upholstery was constructed for Winnebago motor homes which were made 25 miles away.

Ray and Esther had two girls – Nancy who has two boys and Tracy who has 2 girls. After retirement Ray and Esther made their winter home in McAllen, TX – Esther loved the Rio Grande Valley.
Esther, one of 11 girls, has macular degeneration and recently had a stroke. Her sight is definitely compromised so she listens to news, music and church programs yet she can spell and write out a grocery list. Strange, isn’t it?

Esther deserves to be our next card recipient, don’t you think?

Don’t forget – tell her how you know her – otherwise she’ll think it’s a prank! You know she’s going to think this is a really fun thing, don’t you? Having people she doesn’t even know send her a card to let her know they were thinking about her?
Thank you for doing this – kindness matters.

My neighbor rode with me to town this afternoon to run errands. I stopped at the Family Dollar store to pick up some cards and I told my neighbor about Esther. She asked me to text Esther’s address to her and she said she and her daughter will both send cards. I hope Esther is showered with lots of cards!
Sheryl – by this Sunday I’m sure she will have received some cards – I hope I can see her after church!
Got my card ready to go tomorrow😃
Just sent a card/note to Esther. I could relate to her with the family farm and also being a Teacher of the Visually Impaired. It really shows how much we have in common with strangers. Love the kindness! FYI- Trader Joe stores have wonderful cards for $1.99!
Patty T – my closest Trader Joe’s is 2 hours away
Is a broiler a larger chicken?
Nancy – yes, a broiler Is a chicken bred to get large quickly and then butchered.
I just got a card in the mail! I had some cards with Texas Bluebonnets on it! Thought she might like a pretty reminder of Texas!
Jill – that was fast! Thank you!
I have to strike when I’m hot! Ha ha. That means I actually had a few minutes when I read your post and just did it! I need to buy more stamps so I’m ready for the next round!
I love that you are doing this, Mary. It’s often the little things that can make someone’s day!
I’d be happy to send a note to Esther. Is it okay to send a note to other ladies we met last year? Jan in AZ
Janet – yes, of course! Please note that Norma passed away.
Oh my gosh Mary all kinds of auto correct needed …so sorry
Oh all my life and punctuation marks too ugh
Call Mary you picked another good one I can’t say I know Esther even though I’ve lived in Garner oh my life but I do now through you and I will send her a card. You sure do have a lot of helpers when you’re sewing and cooking don’t you take care and have a good day everyone Thank you for thinking of doing this for her Mary
Mareen – thanks for sending a cards Mareen!
Thank you for bringing Esther into our realm. Will get a card in the mail. Kindness does matter and it makes a difference for the giver and the receiver.
Mary I think the idea of sending cards is great. I enjoy sending cards to family and friends and
even though the new thing is text messages or email cards I like sending cards. Cards are
expensive so the thought of cards can be over whelming. So I hit the dollar store as to me it isn’t
the price of the card it is the thought. It is the fun of getting a piece of mail not a bill or advertisement
or a catalog .It is just the fun of mail. Thank you Mary for being so thoughtful specially of us that have
a loved one floating by with their Angel Wings.
Pat – I agree – cards are so expensive so it’s like buying a gift – it really IS the thought that counts. Tell me about your loved one who has their Angel Wings.
I just love doing this! Hope this brings her great joy.
Not only will this be fun for Esther I think it’s fun for your “fans”! We can never have too many friends and having another one in Iowa is so nice. I hope everyone joins in and sends Esther good wishes and love.

On it! When the one granddaughter was young, I bought her a set of black and white dominoes so her and her great grandma could play. Many happy games were played with those.
I think this is just wonderful! Hugs,
