Are you working on your rug if you’re part of our RugAlong?  Would you send me a comment if you’re taking part in this so I know how many of you are out there?

Also there’s our book club that has fallen by the wayside since the hack in July.  Let’s start up again – send me the titles of good books you’ve read recently.  I don’t need a synopsis – just a title and author.  Next week I’ll post the list and we’ll be caught up.

and then there’s HIPS Quiltalong.  I did not make lots of progress until yesterday.  I’m still working on that secret project but I did get some cutting done.

And then I stopped to make some star blocks – aren’t they just so cute?

Now to finish the Jade plant story.  I was glad I had taken that picture of my beautiful plant because the next day this is what I found on the ground.  Branches broken off!

This happened twice so now I have two more pots to care for – jade plants, of course because I just couldn’t throw them away.  Ugh!

There will be several separate posts this morning – stay tuned!

Love your star blocks, you are always so busy! I too am facing problems with my knee. I go to the Orthopedic surgeon on Thursday. Don’t know if surgery is the last option. I am praying for you.

  2. Donna Sproston

Yes, those are the cutest stars!

I just finished Frank and he is a sporty dude. My grandson, Henry, will love him. Henry is the one learning to quilt.

  3. Susie Q

talking of secret projects reminds me I am collecting 5″ charm squares for a quilt that you talked about earlier this summer. Is that still on?

Good Morning, Mary. My husband just finished making me a rug frame and yesterday I cut the warp stripes. I had to wait to get my pinking blades from Amazon, but, alas. I could not cut anything with them. So, I drew lines across the fabric with a bright pen and then cut them with pinking shears. Today I will knot them together. As you can see, I am way behind.
Haven’t read any good books, just a couple of mediocre ones.

Mary I hope you’re able to find the best solution for your knee. I’m thinking surgery but who would care for your many pets.
I closed 7-8 ads and YES your little stars are so pretty. I’ve nit had much time to work on my #3 but at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then into the next number. Forgot the # but I have it pulled out. It’s one of your patterns. I too like succulents but the only one I have now are hens & chicks in my garden. I think they’re considered a succulent. I think they’re so cute. My sister gave me some a few years ago & I accidentally buried them or dug them up. This year I bought one & they’re really thriving. Take care Mary & your photos came thru just fine 👍

Mary I don’t know how you get your stars so perfect. Mine always turn out with cut off tips! Yours are beautiful!

Summer of “69 by Elin Hilderbrand
I was a high school senior that summer. I didn’t live near the beach, but it sure brings back a lot of memories of that time period.

Did I miss something or forgot? What is the HIPS quilt a long?
    Your star blocks looks nice.

    1. Kathy in western NY

I too enjoyed Summer of ‘69 by Elin Hildebrand as I graduated high school that year and it brought back lots of memories of what went on then. I gave my copy to my daughter and said “ read it and tell me a mother doesn’t worry when the word draft is said”.
I also read Montauk by Nicola Harrison which was another good read.

I’m reading Arrowood now. I’m into chapter eight and just really not a fan of the writers style. I feel some of her descriptive passages are unnecessary and thrown in for filler.

    Mary,
Closed some 5 ads this morning.
Your stars for HIPSight are my colors. Thanks for sharing!
Did you celebrate National Beer Day last week? 😉 Seems there is a day for everything!
This morning Home n Family showed working with cacti and grafting them together; quite interesting.

How could I have missed such an important day!! Maybe I’ll substitute a day this week – haha!

  10. Norma Gebhardt

I would suggest the following book:’The Long Flight Home.” It is by Alan Hlad an a fairly new book. I have read the whole set of Poldark books by Winston Graham. They extend beyond the series on PBS. They are very well written.

  11. Charlotte S.

    Love the star blocks.

Camino Island by John Grisham. I’m reading the The Reckoning now, which you said was very good.

  12. Martha Engstler Gettysburg

The broken limbs of your Jade plant look so healthy. Did the wind do that? Sad for the breaks but nice new plants I hope.

  13. Sherry Whalen

Mary, I love your star blocks! I am slowly working on a rug. I am still working my way thru listening to Sue Grafton’s alphabet books, I am now listening to ‘X’. I have really enjoyed them all. I put my Jade plant out this spring and the rabbits (or chipmunks) took all the branches off. The little jerks. They have both been a really big problem this year.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Oh, how I understand – this trunk was about the size of a 50 cent piece and the squirrels chewed it off. I thought it was the cats who had jumped on the plant but then I noticed chewing marks. So sad.

  14. Jo in Wyoming

I’m not doing the rug a long, but I’m am getting a lot done. Heard s-n-o-w on the radio this morning! Ugh.
What happened to the plant? Did you get some antique shopping done this weekend? Hope so, as you have said, “retail therapy helps everything”.
I went to the car wash this morning, so with any luck we will get some rain. I do that on purpose.

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Well, like Sherry said in the previous comment, the squirrels chewed it off – twice! It’s now residing in my screened porch.
No shopping for me as it turned out – it’s just too hard to walk. But I did buy something fantastic at Junkin Gal in the booth right next to ours owned by a customer. I can’t wait to show you!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Forgot to tell you about Reed – he has lots of homework this year and the afternoons have been too. Ice to stay inside and sew! When I can walk again, we’ll return to our adventures.

  16. Jan B from TN

I closed 6 ads tonight! Sorry about your beautiful jade plant. 😕
We are having a hot, hot week here in Crossville, TN. 90’s are forecast all week which is not normal for us. We also desperately need some rain. It has very dry & everyone’s lawns are brown, bushes & tress are losing leaves due to the hot & dry weather. I guess we could be worse off since we don’t get hurricanes or tornadoes or much snowed really cold weather. Nope, I don’t miss anything in IL at all, except my daughter! 😉

I had every intention to start the rug but then we got a puppy!! What do I need to do to get the dvd? Maybe I can catch up!

    1. CountryThreads Post author

LaNan – A PUPPY???? There’s nothing in the world like having a puppy! What kind of puppy? What’s its name? Have you had dogs in the past? A rug can wait – puppies cannot! The dvd is always available for $8.00. Send us a picture of your puppy with all the details!

  21. Dianne In Ohio

I’ve just finished reading “Keepers of the Covenant” by Lynn Austin. It is the second book in her Restoration Chronicles series. The first book is “Return to Me”, which I thoroughly enjoyed, too. Tomorrow I start reading the third and last book “On This Foundation”. While reading these books, I also read “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn. This book is awesome and amazing. A must read.

  22. Diane

Yes, I am working on my rug. It has taken a back seat to vacation, grandkids, my #3 and other things, but I will keep plugging away😃.

Book—THE GLORY CLOAK by Patricia O’Brien

  23. Wendy

    Hi Mary-

I was just thinking about your ever-growing “surplus” of plants and had an idea. I volunteer at a thrift/consignment shop and some of the women sell plants as well. Would it work to do that at your Junkin Gal booth or isn’t it practical? We have a small outdoor area for our plant sales but we do sell a lot! Some are planted in very interesting containers as well. Just an idea…

    1. CountryThreads Post author

Thanks, Wendy! I have sold some plants at Junkin Gal but they aren’t very popular and they have to be inside. The store is also only open 2 days a week so I have to pick them up and bring them home each week. A real chore especially since they will only bring $1-3 each if they sell at all. Sad.

  24. Noël in KY

Ummm…I resumed doing the rug along ont he rug I started years ago, but haven’t done anything in the past few weeks. Oops!
