Our friend Deirdre who lives in Tasmania has dedicated her new sampler quilt to us! The patterns are free on her website for you to download and sew along with her instructions. I really love the center block – I’ll start there. Anybody want to join? Go to Hat Creek Quilts on Instagram and check it out. Deirdre has made these patterns FREE – what’s not to like here? I haven’t used blue in a long time – I’ll start there.
I am honored to think we had a positive effect on quilters around the world – in ways I don’t quite understand. Our years in the quilt business were good – thanks to our customers. And …..Thank you, Deirdre!!

More great ballgames happening this weekend – I am loving it!!!

So much fun in the blog this morning! I am loving reading all the yummy sounding pasta salad recipes. With any luck, I may actually make some of them. I have been so disinterested in fixing food lately. Also loved the red/white/blue view of the farm today, Mary, as well as all the quilts. Must check out Deirde’s website, too. Happy Sewing Machine Day to all. ~ Suzanne in Michigan
Another great post. You farm looks so “Americana” , especially from the field with bright blue sky and fluffy white clouds. Spectacular!!!! Loved the cartoon!
Ginger – that farm scene spoke to me as well – the bright blue sky especially – it’s that time of year and I love every day of it.
Enjoyed the pics and conversation this morning. We are expecting a thunderstorm this morning–looked at radar and yup, on track for one. I had planned to sleep in but it did not happen so a nap might happen later on–Ha. I have two days before my next retreat, closer to home–less than hr away. Never took out some of my stuff from the car.
Fran – oh, you tickle me! Just left some of your stuff in the car because you knew you were going again. Haha! Do you take food? Stay where overnight?
Depends on the place we retreat too. The Benedict I last went to is like a hotel in many ways and they serve meals–we do lunch and dinner. Cafeteria style. Private room.
Some places it’s 3 to a room. Honey Comb Haven is in Harlan, IA with plenty of places to eat so only snacks or a light meal do we take for food. When we do food at places that have maybe one restaurant in town, we share meals. It works out.
I brought my suitcase in and doing laundry between retreats. Ha
I have to agree that all the patriotic quilts & decorations has been such an enjoyment! I have truly enjoyed seeing all these, just beautiful! I’m working on one of Mary’s patterns called “Warm Welcome”. I have a dear friend who is retiring after 47 yrs & with it being our country’s 250 birthday, this wallhanging just seemed perfect. All patriotic fabrics as well. My compliments to the designer!😊 Yesterday coming home from the gym I used my GPS to find a route with possibly less traffic. A notification pops up that there’s an obstruction on the road. I’m expecting something that may have fallen off one of the landscaping trucks, etc. it was a small tortoise moving as fast as possible! I avoided it as well as the two cars behind me. I’m hoping that gave this little guy enough time to safely get across this busy road! First time I’ve ever had my GPS pick up something like this on the road, how nice! Everyone have a great weekend! Thanks Mary for posting all the decorations & quilts.
Alice – oh, I hope he made it across safely! I’ll never forget seeing one on the highway on my way to somewhere and when I came back he was smashed on the road – I can’t get that picture out of my mind after all these years. Hope you enjoy making Warm Welcome!
Mary, I choose to believe he made it across the road. It would make me very upset if he didn’t. Also wanted to say that I too loved the beautiful red, white, & blue picture of your farm! Warm Welcome is a bit time consuming with all the pieces, but every block is going together beautifully. Your directions are excellent!! I can always tell if a pattern designer is also a quilter, everything is precise.
Deirdre’s quilt is beautiful. I’ll have to try Instagram again. I’ve not had much luck with it.
We had a welcome rain overnight on Friday near Dayton. Since watering is my least favorite part of gardening, it was most welcome.
Yesterday, I got a backing pieced together. A finish is closer.
Beryl – I hate watering as well – especially all those house plants sitting out front – but since it didn’t rain, it’s on my list for today.
Love that cartoon! I’ll try to send the birthday card I got for my DH this year—he turned 79 in March. It was perfect. I’m just getting out my patriotic stuff ( I know, I know) and I’ll take some pictures.
What a lovely (and deserved) tribute van Hat Creek Quilts!
Another great patriotic post today. Love them all! And the tribute quilt is fabulous. She’s so generous to share her pattern. It definitely looks like a Country Threads inspiration.
It’s a little cooler here this morning and not as humid. It’ll be a gorgeous day! Enjoy your weekend everyone.
I chuckled out loud at cartoon! What a beautiful tribute from Tasmania! Do we ever really know how we impact another’s life? Small town festival today and all-school reunion dinner. Lots to look forward to!
Bonny-are you by chance talking about Stuart, Iowa? Small town festival (Good Egg Days) and all school reunion sound like what my hometown have going on. I should be there riding in the parade with the 50 year class but could not make it. But I am proud to be a 1976 graduate. Enjoy your weekend!
So this week we had 5.5 inches of rain. Things are wet and growing. No wind damage so we are good there. Have enjoyed all the quilts and pictures from everyone. Working on sewing down the binding on king size pineapple quilt. It’s getting there. If you are bothered by critters eating your plants try putting your coffee grounds on and around them. So far few hostas are being ate.
Will be enjoying time with the kids in upper Minnesota this week. Good family time to be had.
Thanks to everyone who has sent pictures and recipes.
Hi Mary, will have to take a closer look at deidre,s quilt,my convict ancestors went to Tasmania after 7 years on Norfolk Island, l always wanted to go there but mobility issues was a problem. Had a lovely lunch today with my quilting friends, Karen and april, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and salmon, yum! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy
Beautiful quilt Deidre, and what a lovely gesture. Am sure lots of Countrythread fans will be making it. You are so generous (but that’s an Aussie for you)! Cheers
