Mostly Pictures, 10-1-25

It was a productive run through the hayfield – 3! – count ‘em! THREE SNAKES!!!!! Hazel was in her glory.

I do not understand why we have snakes this year!
And Greta comes along with us

Hankster came for a quick visit – he met Morty.

Kathy swung by so I could meet Bentley, her grand dog – a mini Bernedoodle! Oh my, what a cute dog! He and Hazel wanted to play so bad but we have to meet and greet with supervision first. Without Hankster and Keeper.

And he’s got blue eyes!

Oh, the call of the combine! He ended up hitching a ride.

Nancy’s Josie claims this as her bed!

And here’s a quick mini quilt for fall –

Playhouse Pumpkin, 16” x 22”
Playhouse Pumpkin with Star

Many of you probably have these little pumpkin patterns – this is just lots easier than mailing them out. Haha!!!

This morning when I got up this is what I saw – Morty sitting on top of my new stove, no reservations about where he was at all. King of the kitchen!!

………….

I really am feeling better – thanks so much for all your well wishes – they’re working. I’m laying low and trying to be patient. It’s been interesting to me that hives following surgery are not that uncommon because many of you mentioned this experience.

Hasta Manana!

Because you shared about your hives, others have written about their experiences. So you know you are not alone. It is okay to share. Because I was reading your blog I knew that I needed to be patient with my knee replacement recovery and my hip replacement. I haven’t read much here about shoulder replacement; mine happens next month. I am sure it will also be a time to be patient. I have no idea how long it will be before I can play the piano on Sunday morning or get back to sewing. Once again, great pictures. Thanks for the pumpkin pattern.

Judy – I didn’t have shoulder replacement but did have a very difficult rotator cuff surgery many years ago. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you’re doing.

Love all the pics of the animals, cats and dogs are the best. Those quilts are awesome!! I made a Playhouse Pumpkin when you posted the pattern before. I absolutely love Halloween and decorate the entire house with quilted things. Thanks Mary for sharing your life!

  3. Barbara J Firesheets

Thank you for sharing the Playhouse Pumpkin patterns again. I hadn’t seen the one with the star, so that was new to me. The white pumpkin looks great! Looks like Morty will be running the place in no time! He looks perfectly happy perched up on your new stove! Ha!

Thanks for all the great pictures, Mary! I trust Hank and Morty did well at their first meeting. Morty is a cute stove decoration. I love seeing Greta hanging out in the golf cart and spending time in the hay fields. Those apple trees are loaded. I have apples in my basement fridge; it’s applesauce time.
    Take Care/Thanks, 🥰

Hi Mary and everyone! Today’s blog brought smiles to my morning. Dogs, cats, quilts, even apples! But Morty on the new stove was the best. I think he was sent to you to help you heal. At the very least, he’s a bit of a distraction in the best way! Thanks for the pumpkin patterns. I’ll add them to my stack of “what do I start next?” Most of my ads lately were of farm equipment, Go figure. Continue to feel better Mary. Have a good evening.

Mary, I always enjoy reading your blog posts. Great photos of all the pets. Love Morty . . . what a kitty! Does he get along with all your other house cats? Where do you find your house cats sleeping when you get up in the morning, or are they up before you? We are owned by an 3+ year old orange rescue kitty. He is a strong-willed, lovable guy. Nancy B: really nice quilt. Mary: Thank you for the pumpkin quilt patterns. We are heading into a really warm weekend. Guess I am looking forward to next week with cooler temps. Thank you, Mary, for the pumpkin block–l love the one with the star the best. Monty on the stove–what next?! But, he is so cute, what can you do–ha! One of our four cats likes to find the highest spot in the room/house. Last night it was on top of the wall cabinets in the kitchen. Lots of glass vases up there, but she didn’t knock any of them off. There are other spots in the house just as high (and where I don’t mind her being), so why the cabinets (sigh). Enjoyed all the other pets and Nancy’s log cabin quilt – wow. Kris mentioned sweater ads in her blog feed–all my ads were of grotesque-looking halloween t-shirts and cardigans–ugh! And some days it’s even worse, and of course there are about 12 ads, all the same. Makes me close them really quickly, though, and I know it helps keep the blog going, so I shouldn’t ‘complain’, right? 🙂

Sara, Please help me understand this ‘ad’ thing that helps pay for Mary’s blog. It has been discussed here, but I don’t get how it works. Some ads have an ‘X’ in the corner and if I click that it gives me the choice of ‘Report that ad’ or ‘ad choices’. Do I pick one of these? Some ads only have 3 dots in the corner. The choices with these is ‘stop seeing this ad’ or ‘why this ad’. Do I pick one of these? OR do I click the ad and go to the website? I want to help May out, but am very confused.

      1. Sara in Indiana

Diane O in Michigan: I just click on the ‘X’ or the three dots. I believe that is all you need to do to help Mary. I do not click on any of the choices, unless I want to ‘stop seeing this ad’. That is how I understand it, though I may be wrong. If someone else knows more, I hope they respond.

The joke’s on me this afternoon! I read your first line about Hazel and the snakes as…31 (thirty-ONE) snakes! Gave me the shivers and I screeched my best teen-ager EWWWW…then realized it was “only” 3 snakes Hazel got after. Still too many in my book and still gives me the shivers!
This was one of your best posts ever, Mary. I just got back from accompanying hubby to the clinic. Robert had been plotting how to convince the wheelchair van driver into a taking a loop through McDonald’s drive-through on his way back to the nursing home. His plan didn’t work, but we had a few good laughs over his bribery scheme.
I came home, fixed my lunch, sat down at the computer and was greeted by all sorts of pet pictures: Greta catching a ride to the hayfield, Hankster meeting Monty–Ruler of the Kitchen, Bentley with those blue eyes, Hank in Kansas supervising harvest, and Josie modeling “her” quilt. Life with the fur families is good. Oh, and Nancy B., your “Sparkling Stars” quilt is awesome.
Well, it’s 83* here with a light breeze. If they weren’t putting down new asphalt (YUK!) a block away, I’d turn on the house fan and open all the windows. Hmmm, most of the ads today were for bulky cable knit sweaters and Pendleton blankets. No! Too soon!
Thanks for putting a smile in my heart, Mary, and thanks to all who send in photos and comments. You make a difference in my day, and I appreciate it. Prayers continue. Kris in WI.

Those snakes give me the willies. Ukk. I’d have to take a shovel and cut their heads off if I saw them everyday.
Morty seems to be very happy there. Nice new stove for Mary.
The apple trees look so inviting. The quilts are beautiful. Thanks, Mary for the pumpkin patterns.
The furry friends always take a great photo.

  10. Hankster's Mom

As we predicated. Hankster loved Morty. And I think the feeling was mutual, although Morty was pretty ‘wet’ after Hankster’s nose and tongue greeted Morty too many times.

You were genuinely kind to provide pumpkin wall hanging measurements. Thank you. I do like the blue as a different look.
What did you decide about a mat for your stove? I don’t use anything on mine and it’s fine. I’d love to wake up and find a Morty in my kitchen!

  12. Ginger S in New Hampshire

Thank you for the pumpkin mini quilt patterns Mary. I love them and look like they would go together pritty quickly. Morty is so cute. I think he is going to be the “Hazel” of your cats. Apples are in full swing here in NH as well. I love fall most of all!

  13. Linda in Saginaw Michigan

Nothing better than pictures of Hazel, Mr. Hank, Bentley with blue eyes and sweet little Morty the little orange boy. I got up to Minnie racing around the house like a streak of lightning. Then Olivia joined in and Betty hissed! Fur babies are the absolute best thing to wake up to!

    Blessings everyone

Oh, those quilts! Nancy B, your quilt is gorgeous!
Those farm pictures make me miss my dad and the Midwest. There is a wonderful beauty in farms.

  15. Sue in Oregon

Nancy B…Your quilt is beautiful. Love it!
Bentley reminds me of our Vinnie. He lived to be 17 years old. He was so smart and such a character. He made us laugh all the time.
We have had much rain the last few days. Just in time here on our farm. We were about to run the well dry so I am grateful. Now we have lots of crystal clear water with lots of pressure. Yah!

  16. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

Boy oh boy Morty owns your place now. Hahaha, he’s adorable, so cute. I really like the quilts and those apple trees – imagine how much apple sauce and sliced apples I could freeze for making apple crisp or pies in the winter. Yum! Have a great day everyone.

    1. Kathy in western NY

      Teresa,
There are acres and acres of various apple trees near where we have our motor home for the summer season along Lake Ontario. It’s the largest producer and supplier of apples in New York State. Hence apple festivals and tastings all the time now.
What I find fascinating is the many farmers who have rows of trees behind wire fencing and those are organic farms. Some farms have open fields and some fenced in. I love driving the rolling hills this time of year and seeing all the red color on the trees.

      1. Teresa from Maple Ridge, BC

Kathy, we have an area in BC that we call the Okanagan and that area grows lots of apples too as well as peaches, apricots , plums and a lot of grapes for wine. Growing up my grandma lived in Kelowna, a huge apple growing town and every year we would get a few 40 lb cases of Spartan apples a variety developed in the Okanagan. It is a cross between a McIntosh and Newton Apple. They are my favourite for baking because they don’t turn to mush like some do and are sweet so added sugar isn’t necessary. Thank you for reminding me of that.
