A reader asked to see a body shot of Hazel versus her butt in the air – she’s quite photogenic when I remember to take the picture.

And then she dissolves into this! She brings me a leaf or a tiny twig to throw – you can’t throw a twig or a leaf! She barks incessantly until I have to turn my back on her and walk away. She is possessed!!!

I’ve been cleaning plants and moving them – slowly. The weather is supposed to be nice for another week so I feel like I can take my time. I did cover the geraniums last night because I was unsure.

Remember this huge jade tree?

I just loaded it onto my plant carrier and here it is in the piano room. I did not have to ask anyone for help – that’s always my goal – haha!!

Patti was a camp host for 3 months and is now on the move again.

This happy blog about nothing will return to being non-political in every way. Unapproved comments will be deleted, thanks once again to Richard. I’m not smart enough to figure it out without him teaching me how to delete comments that might be considered argumentative.
The pessimist complains about the wind.
The optimist expects it to change.
The realist adjusts his sails.

Hazel is adorable; thanks for all the pictures of her.
It was nice to see Patti, former camp host. I hope that was a good experience. My hubby always thought we should try camp hosting.
The quilts are beautiful. That plant mover is amazing!
Take Care, Mary 🥰
Mary, Hazel is such a character–asking you to play fetch with leaves and twigs! We love her antics and the pix of all the pups, of course. I think Hazel wanted you to take a ride out to the grove so she could find a favorite digging spot, but I guess a rest next to the sewing machine will have to do.
RV Patti, safe travels to you and Patti in FL, I hope you can keep your feet dry!
Connie, your star quilt looks so welcoming and cozy…nap time! And such pretty fall decorating ideas with quilts, crows and pumpkins. I think I have shelf envy!
I’m so glad to hear the news from out and about. Prayers for all. Kris in WI
Mary, thanks for posting the front end of Hazel. Now I can show her to the neighbors with BIG Hazel. Both Hazels are adorable and do have their ornery sides:) The Fall pictures are great and so are the quilts. I AM going to get our son’s quilt top finished for the quilter this week, I HOPE. It is cute to see Tim in his box. He looks more like our grand kitty, Archie, than Squeak because they have black noses and Squeak’s is pink.
Patti, what kind of camper do you have? I’d like to camp again. My sister and brother in law in Venice, FL were just evacuated to a middle school. They think they will be ok, but this is their first time going through a hurricane. They are right in the middle of it. Yikes. Praying for all the people I know in Florida and NC. Friends had a huge tree come down on their house in Asheville, but lots of help from FEMA and the NC Disaster service and a group from Dayton, OH went down yesterday. Thank goodness there are good people in this world. At least we can send money to Red Cross and other disaster services. Take care everyone and take care of your neighbors:)
Patti stay safe. Will be thinking and praying for you.
Mary, the jade plant looks great and BIG! You certainly have a better spot for it to winter then we did.
Hanks mom – I don’t know about that – look how big you grew it!! I love it!
As always the pictures are so great. Tim’s field looks like a watercolor it’s so beautiful in the light. I love Connie’s star quilt.
Patti, we are keeping you and Mr. Ed is in our prayers. I take it you are in the Orlando area? You sound like you are prepared as much as you can be.
Thank you, Mary, for keeping the blog interesting and
Apoltical. We don’t need to argue. Life is too short to be mad. We appreciate your Iowa nice. Stay safe And pray for Florida.
Carolyn – and I will always strive to be Iowa Nice!, thanks so much
Carolyn – sadly Tim’s field will soon be black and not this soft golden color that just so pretty and calming.
After reading Rita’s report on her daughter that had a double mastectomy, I thought I should report on our daughter-in-laws results from hers last Monday, the 1st. Everything went well, and she had rescontruction surgery at the same time. She went home last Tuesday, and is doing well. She may not need chemo so that is a positive. She is a nurse, but will be off work for about 3 months.
My prayers are with those in FL. I have 2 nephews and some cousins in the line of the storm. Patti, I pray you don’t have much damage at your house. I can’t even imagine what it is like to go through a hurricane of that magnitude. After seeing the destruction from Helene, it just breaks my heart that so many lives were lost, and some still not found. God bless those who are there helping with that clean-up. It looks impossible to me.
Jeanine – I have your daughter’s name here in my book, too, but failed to put down a date. It’s wonderful that she’s doing so well. Aren’t you glad that’s over?
Yes, and so is she. She had two of the four drains removed today, She said Horray! She thought the other two may be removed next week. She can do a little more now, but still has to be very careful. She’s sleeping in a new soft recliner they got for her as she has to sleep on her back for several weeks.
Love feisty Hazel!
Love the pictures of Hazel, front side is an easier side to look at, ha! But not as easy to get a picture of.
Farmer Tim’s field looks so empty now glad he was able to finish the field, maybe less dust now Mary.
Patti stay safe in Florida, we need to hear from you and all that you accomplish with your sewing.
The fall decorations set up in the room is picture perfect. Thanks for sharing. The quilts are beautiful and are eye candy to look at,
My family update. My brother is now home recuperating and is having a speech therapist come. I talked to him on the phone and although it was difficult for him to get his thoughts and speech to come out in a normal conversation he did pretty well. Need to talk to his wife to see how his progress is really coming along.
My daughter Kim had her double Mastectomy on September 26, and has already had the stitches and the drain tubes removed. The pathology report came back with no cancer and the tissue edges clean. She currently has spacers and will have reconstructive surgery in 2-3 months.
As for me, I am three weeks out of knee replacement. Staples removed and healing well. Therapy is going well and finally got over last weeks hump of not improving my range of motion. Walking without the cane in the house and using it when I venture outside as cautionary measure. Sleeping at night is the biggest thing right now.
Sorry I did not get this written yesterday.
Rita in Iowa, It sounds like you and your family is turning a corner and coming out on the good side. Hopefully, winter will be kind to all of you. God bless you all.
Rita – after both of my replacements sleep was nearly impossible, too. I slept in a recliner for weeks. Thanks for your update.
On Rita I feel for you. My knee replacement was the hardest thing I went through, but the other side is good. I kept walking around big box stores with a cart little by little to get my mobility back. Praying for you, your daughter and brother. It seems like when it rains it pours. Keep us updated.
Such great pictures today!! I love Hazel. I just got back from West Virginia this weekend. Was there for a week for my brother’s funeral. He had been sick for almost 3 years with so many different things. I wanted to be there with my dad who is 96. I came home to record breaking heat. It was 100 yesterday and 95 today. Supposed to be 82 tomorrow. So thankful I have AC.
My sister-in-law lives in St. Petersburg, FL. Her daughters have finally convinced her to head to Georgia. This is the first hurricane that she has left her home in maybe 50 years. Her one daughter that lives on the water, lost their home from Helene. Praying for safety for everyone.
Love all the dog pictures. Hazel has so much energy. The golden trees in one of Patti’s pictures with RV, car, and golf cart are gorgeous. Jill, I am thinking of you as I know this is such a hard time. Mary, I am glad the jade plant was easy to move, but you still had to lift it onto the table. That looks like it was so heavy! I find the shelf with Halloween/fall decorations to be charming with the lights. Makes me think I should get out my twinkle lights. Patti in Florida, I am thinking of you. Mary, thank you for a non-political, non-argumentative blog. You learned something new to be able to do this. The learning curve with technology is never over, is it? At least that is how it is at my house. Sometimes my husband wants to try something new – most recently learning to use a hot pot he bought in Japan for which the only directions are written in Japanese. (I know – maybe not actually technology, but it is electrical.) Our first venture was best described as crash and burn. Our second venture went better, but I did much of the “prep” in a pan on the stove. Now tell me, did we really use for the hot pot for anything but to finish heating as the final step? And I could have done that on the stove. Now he thinks the pot is great. I think of it as “one more step”. After over 50 years of making meals for us, I am not interested in extra steps. Today, he has an idea for a new dish to try. Ugh.
Vicki – I’m with you – I don’t want any new equipment of any kind. I was trying to turn on our heat boiler and of course it had a computer screen. As I was screaming in frustration all the way up the stairs, I told Rick again that this is why old people don’t mind dying. The world becomes too complicated and we have no one to ask to help.
Thank you
Vicki, that’s so funny about your husband wanting to make new things! Mine went on a bread machine binge, making so many loaves of bread that we couldn’t even begin to eat. I finally got tired of it, and somehow we just suddenly had no yeast in the house … I have actually threatened to padlock the spice cabinet after just one too many “experiments” LOL Why can’t he just stay in the garage or somewhere else??? LOL
At one point my husband wanted to buy a bread machine. I told him in no uncertain terms that I wasn’t buying the components, making the bread, or washing things up. He looked at me like “yah, sure”, and I told him this was non-negotiable and that I wouldn’t care if the bread spoiled or the kitchen smelled because he didn’t wash the bread maker. So, he decided against buying that machine. Thank goodness. I love fresh bread, but don’t want to make it/deal with it.
That Hazel is one good looking dog-looks so innocent. Haha. Loved the fall decorating. Prayers to those in the path of the hurricane.
love the pictures today. the fall decorations are wonderful. hazel looks great in all her bodily configurations. hailey baly does look like a lady. is nice to see patti and her rv and dogs. on the road again. i hope tim does get used to his box so he’ll stay in during the winter months. farmer tim’s land looks so bare with no corn on it.
jill, i’m so sorry you lost your dog recently. i know how hard that is to deal with. prayers for strength.
hurricane milton is still on its way here. it’s going so slow that they are anticipating landfall wednesday evening or overnight before thursday daylight. it went from category 1 to cat 5 in a little over an hour today. it won’t be that strong when it hits us, but it is still a massive massive storm. i have done everything i can do to be prepared. oxygen arrangements have been made. couldn’t get a generator before saturday so dh did not order one. i have a very short list of things to do tomorrow (laundry, make sure we have cash, and take photos of the contents of my house). i will need that to prove to insurance companies that i really do own that many machines, tons of fabric and all the other quilting items. it’s lots. so the only thing left is prayers which i would appreciate.
my daughter called again from new hampshire wanting to come evacuate me to new hampshire. i don’t think that is necessary. the worst of all this is getting ready for it and then the actual hit of the storm. we will probably lose power wednesday/thursday. they are anticipating power outages of up to 14-16 days. if you don’t hear anything from me, no news is good news. keep good thoughts.
i did not bake today. but i did cook supper tonight, spaghetti with meat sauce, dh liked it. told him not to count on it as an everyday thing yet. i just wanted something home made before the storm.
happy stitching to all, patti in florida
Patti – we’ll be worried about you so let us know when you can how you’re doing.
Patti, We will say a prayer for you and dh.
Thank you
Love the Hazel photos. It’s great to see her “front” end from time to time. When I saw the fall decor photo, I thought “someone has a wonderful talent.” I also hope Tim continues to enjoy his new digs. Winter can be so cruel on our animals.
It amazes me how white Hazel stays for all the shenanigans she gets into. Our terrier lived 16 years and I felt so lucky to have him that long.
People such as Richard are so valuable to people like us who don’t navigate streaming, internet and QR codes so he’s a keeper!
Kathy – yes, I appreciate Richard so much!! I’m just too old to even want to learn this stuff. I remember your white terrier – I hope Hazel lives to be 16. She’ll be 8 in January.
Great pictures, Mary. Thank you for all your work to share these with us. Hazel
takes good pictures even when she is sleeping!
I love to see pictures of Hazel. She looks so much like our terrier, Mulligan. We lost him about 2 weeks ago. It’s so hard, as you know, but I love seeing Hazel and all of her shenanigans!
Jill – oh no! I am so sorry – I remember Mulligan and yes, it’s nearly impossible to survive the death of a well loved pet. I don’t know how I’ll live through the eventual loss of Hazel. I hope it’s many years.
Thank you for your kind words. I also hope you have many more years with Hazel! She’s living the best dog life I can think of!
I’m very sorry Jill for your loss. It’s heartbreaking to feel that void when they are gone.
Dear Jill, I’m so sorry for your loss! Our sweet Aussie has been gone ten years and I still miss him. I too love all the pictures of dogs and I just love dogs!
Thoughts and prayers for Florida residents with the hurricane heading their way!
Thank you!
Jill – I hope you’ll show us your new dog when the time comes.
Our only son is enlisted in the Navy. His type of Job kept him in our city for 8 years! We were so blessed. He has recently decided to switch jobs within the Navy and has moved for training. From there, he will possibly go overseas. We had a beagle and inherited his as well. Having two beagles keeps me busy, but we still have a hole in our lives that Mulligan left. I’ll send a picture of the beagles.
