Have progressed to the full liquid diet and tomorrow maybe another step. Wow! I am sitting here waiting for my chicken noodle soup and Italian Ice – no crackers on a liquid diet however.
Now since this ongoing and honest account of my surgery and recovery has been completely documented and nothing is sacred in the hospital or in recovery, I am giving you this wonderful news – I FARTED! Hahahahaha!!!!!!!! Finally things are moving ahead. My doctor told me this morning that I had turned the corner – and then she said she would think about discharge. Could I only hope to be home by the weekend? Where are my prayer warriors?

Farting is like THE SOUND OF MUSIC to my ear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s what a good nurse listens for. As they say, “Don’t look in the rear view mirror”…you’re not going that way! It’s all up hill now Mary! Soon you’ll be home tucked under a nice cozy blanket with the furry friends at your feet. I have worried about you having an ileus (bowel blockage) since day one but now it’s all moving through. Forgive me for being soooo descriptive (old nurse here). Happy Thanksgiving dear Mary!
Prayers🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Oh Mary, I am so sorry about your lousy experience in the hospital As a nurse, I am well aware of good nurses and bad ones. The bad ones make you day miserable. Am glad to hear you are hopefully going home soon! Farting is a good thing! Continued prayers for a return to better health.
So happy to hear you are doing better keep up the good work
11-27-2024–So good to hear the tumor was contained! Having a scan every three isn’t such a big deal, it is the anxiety that goes with the exam that drives you crazy. Jay had to have a scan, etc, every three months and when they were fine for a year they extended the length in between check ups to every six months and then to a year and then to two years! So, hopefully that will work for you too.
Ya the flu bug took me for a loop yesterday, but thankfully I am feeling better today. Not a big appetite but at least I got the turkey baked. It snowed this afternoon, enough to make the road white and I’m wondering about the roads, we have a shower tonight at our daughters for our grandson and his fiancé.
Ryan and Heather are from Michigan. They are leaving again late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Wouldn’t you love to drive 13 hours at night? Not me,
Well, hope you continue to improve.
Oh Mary, you made me laugh out loud! I even brought my husband in to read it for him. We love it! Yes, as they say, “It’s the little things in life that count”.
I’m happy to hear that you tumor was completely removed and self contained. This is what I am reading in the comments. Success.
Sending love and happiness your way. Susy
Hooray for passing gas!!! You will NEVER take that for granted ever again! LOL I had a similar experience when I had my gallbladder removed. I spent 5 days in the hospital and they wouldn’t let me go until my body took over again. Don’t ever lose your wonderful sense of humor. I’m glad that you are on the mend. Take your time with recovery. AND get rest.
Positive news, so happy to hear you are on the mend and may get to go home. So hopefully your body is cooperative and your plumbing activates so you are released. When you get home don’t do much at a time so you don’t have a set back in the recovery process. Lots of naps with Hazel, Keeper and some kitties should restore your soul. We can all be thankful this Thanksgiving for you having a benign tumor.
Let’s not concentrate on how long recovery at home will take. Just one toot at a time for now and getting home. Enjoy that soup & Italian ice. Keep on walking those halls too!
Hurray! I’m sure chicken noodle soup never tasted so good! Hope you progress to poached eggs on toast soon! (Our breakfast this morning, my favorite!). Hope you’re home petting your babies ASAP!
Mary, so happy you are progressing to being able to go home soon! And what a relief that this tumor was totally contained!! I’m glad you decided on the surgery rather than wait & see if the tumor disappeared. At least now it’s gone! Praying you get to go home soon!! I’ll mail your package sometime next week, but will let you know when. Continued prayers!!
Alice – oh, yum! Can’t wait! I’ll go easy on them – right now my stomach doesn’t feel ready to eat much at all but that will change. Tell Ron hi!
Thanks giving has an added meaning of thankfulness, joy and relief for you this year. Have a toot’n good holiday and weekend. Yep, prayers are still going out for you.
Nothing better than a good fart, I always say!! Don’t get in a big hurry to do stuff. Nothing is going on here. It feels too cold out to do much of anything. I think it’s because we all got used to having nice weather and, suddenly, it went into winter temps. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Look at all you have to be thankful for.
So happy you are farting and on your way to a full recovery! Still praying for you. Hope you are home by this weekend!
Donna Jo – can’t wait till my stomach can handle some ribs!
Good news, Mary! May the positive reports keep coming and pray you get to return home ASAP!! Prayers Continue!!
Great news Mary, don’t try and do too much all at once, I know the feeling wanting to get home and back to familiar surroundings. You are so missed at home, but hopefully will happen by the weekend! Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
You are definitely making good progress!! Keep it up!! Good news that the tumor was contained.
Prayers of thanks and prayers for progress and discharge are being sent. Great news, Mary. Keep up the good work!
Mary, Thank you God for small things and big things like the Mayo clinic. Prayers for healing and successful recovery. Never underestimate rest. You’ve got this!!
Dear Mary, I have to confess that when I read your news, the only thing that went through my mind was that old song, Toot, toot, tootsie, goodbye! I hope it doesn’t become an “earworm” for you like it has for me!
Prayers continue for healing and better days as you recover. Kris
Yay Mary for things starting to move again. I’m glad the tumor was contained. May you have no further issues from it!
We have a new roof as of this evening. They’ll come back in the morning for final cleanup as it got dark before they could run the magnet around the yard. The cats and I stayed in the house. The cats did great with all the scraping and banging. Klaus stayed by my side and after hiding in the closet a while Magnus decided the sun spot by his favorite window was calling.
No thanksgiving meal for me this year as I caught a cold. My brother is having surgery on his shoulder Friday and between him and elderly parents I don’t want to share germs. I haven’t been able to help with my MIL either.
I did however get two quilt tops finished since last week so being sick hasn’t been all bad.
Take care and keep the healing process going! You’ll be home to see your fur babies and Rick soon.
You made me laugh out loud when you said you FARTED. Praying things keep working and you get your release papers soon. I will make the whole turkey dinner for the 4 of us, granddaughter and husband. At 84 and on oxygen this will be the last turkey I am cooking. We are expecting rain for Thanksgiving and then winter sets in. I will stay in the weekend and plan on doing some Christmas decorating.

Ha! Where are your prayer warriors? Why, we are off praying for you, and we sure
have done a good job! The NG tube’s banishment was a source of celebration at our
house in Jacksonville; both Mark and I have had that multiple times and we were
shudderlng with you and so relieved when it was removed for you. Mary, I am so glad
that you are recovering rapidly now! You should probably get a commendation for keeping
up with your blog posts in the midst of all of this. Thank you for taking the time to let us all
know how you are; I check every time I turn the computer on and I so appreciate not having
to try and imagine what is going on with you.
So glad you are making progress!! Sending prayers for continued progress, and that you can go home soon!
Great news to hear! And yes prayers will continue for a LONG time until you are back to your old self! Please be careful when you do come home. Remember – you are getting everything done for you at the hospital. At home, you are on your own, except for Keeper, Hazel and of course Rick! Enjoy some real food!
This IS progress! We are with you!!
Woohoo Mary! Chicken soup and the release of gas. Everything to cheer about. And so glad for the good news! I’m praying everything keeps progressing with your healing and the return of your energy. Slow and steady.
No company here for Thanksgiving but still doing the big dinner. It’s supposed to be cold and rainy on Thursday so I’m glad I’m not traveling. Stinky weather for this special family day of being together.
There is so much to be grateful for. and your recovery is one of those.
Prayers for all especially those that may be in a tough place right now. Hugs to all.

Yay Mary! 👏 Happy to hear you’re making good progress with your recovery. Will continue to pray you make it back home very soon. 🙏🙏🙏
Mary, I am still praying for your recovery and release. I assume next up will be solid foods followed by a BM before you can go home. Didn’t you mention staying at the hotel a night or two before you go home? Janice in Traverse City area
Mary,
I want to shout, “we’re here” and with continued prayers and good thoughts sent your way.
Good news today and a bowl of soup! Keep on healing. Take care. 🌻
Great news!! Continued good thoughts your way. 🤞home by weekend!!!
yeah, mary is musical again. hip hip hooray!!!! and no piano required.
i played at the sewing machine. sent you a picture just to cheer you up. managed to get one quadant done. always break it down into sections when there are lots and lots of squares. 14 across and 19 down. now i’ll need to square up the red hst so i can go further. i only squared the one to be able to complete that quadrant. progress. feels so good after feeling so poorly myself.
keep on tooting and you will be home in no time. seems like they always want noises like that before they will let you leave. you are close now. all your prayer warriors are still here praying away.
hugs and prayers, patti in florida who just got notice that my pain pill is at the pharmacy – yeah!
We are all routing for you Mary. Continue with your good progress. Hugs and kisses!
Sister Mary Holy Water (aka Mary Ellen) is on it for discharge by the weekend!🤞🙏🥰 Sounds like you’re turning the corner!👍🏻
Yay!! Progress! Passing gas is a big step! So glad you were able to get on the liquid diet!
Prayers that you can go home by the week-end…..There is something about being in your favorite chair with your little ones around you…..Some of the treatments seen barbaric….I would have done horribly with the nose tube….I really felt for you…..
Great news or should I say great noise! Prayers continue for you and a speedy recover! Hope you get home soon and back to the sewing projects.
continued prayers Mary, speedy recovery
S–t happens!
Mary, Thoughts and prayers have been with you every day. Glad the tumor was contained. That is good
news. Slowly work into everything as you don’t want to over do it . The word home does sound good. Take
care now.
You have lots of prayer warriors. Love and Prayers!
Prayers continue for you Mary, keep up the good work. Here’s hoping you get your walking papers soon, Hazel & Keeper await!
Prayers for Mary coming home sooon!
Mary such good news that farting is happening. Chicken soup really has a way of calming the hunger and easy on the system. Hope you will be released soon. Be sure to ask for the meds you need and get them at the hospital. Then you won’t have to stop at the pharmacy where they might not have the ready or not have at all. It only cost me $17 for the meds I needed and got at the hospital.
Can’t wait or hear how the dogs respond to you when you get home.
Be still Mary! Love ya girl.
Yippee! Prayers for continued progress and hope you are homeward bound soon!
We still are praying, and I think of you often during the day..
Hi Mary, celebrating your wonderful news! And saying prayers for you.
Wow, how exciting! I hope you enjoyed the chicken noodle soup and Italian ice.
It is cold and dreary here. Today is our 59th anniversary; we always say it is a major miracle!
Healing Prayers, Mary 🥰
Jeanie s – HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Was your wedding day close to Thanksgiving 59 years ago?
The most wonderful sound. You remain in my prayers.
Good news. Prayers are working. Everyone has good advice for you. Friends and family will all pitch in to help you. Enjoy the help. You do so much for others and now it is your turn to receive.
Hoping you get to go home soon and recovery is quick.
Thought of you today when I heard that the governor of Iowa pardon to turkeys…. Their names are Caitlin and Clark
Karen – yes! Isn’t that just great – turkeys named Caitlin and Clark!! Love it!
Yea!!!!!!!! Progress. The word discharge is music to the ears.
Mary, yippee!!!!! You’ll laugh …… was praying for that fart!!!! It means your gut is working! That’s what we’ve all been praying for!!!! As a nurse, that is music to my ears! 😂😂. So glad and praising God for all your news. Remember — baby steps……. soup today…… turkey tomorrow…… (not really that soon, but wanted to make you smile). Hugs!!!!
Your prayer warriors are here right along side of you. Just take it easy you don’t want a setback.
The blessed post surgery fart! Best wishes for a quick recovery.
Prayers sent your way for continued recovery…the downhill slope from now on. Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you can have even a bite of the traditional foods…not too much too fast!
Thinking of you and your families pray all goes well.
Anyone who has ever had surgery knows how important that fart is! Prayers up and away so hope you are home soon! Story about NG tube. Our 17 yr old son had a very serious car accident 37 years ago. He had an NG tube that he hated so typical teenage boy, he pulled it out. His Dr was awesome and did a great job. The Dr told our son that he had put the NG tube in when he was under anesthesia, but he was putting it back in with no anesthesia. That tube did not come out again! He was in the hospital for 13 days. Long haul, but he’s fine. Enjoy that soup😋😋
Diane – so he didn’t even know how awful it felt being put in and he pulled it out anyway? Oh, yikes!!!! I’ll bet he never does that again. Taking it out wasn’t fun either but not half as bad as putting it in!!!
Yay Mary! You just keep on rooty tootin’ right on down that hallway.
Sending prayers you’ll be home tomorrow Mary!
The sweet sound of farts and stomach grumbles! Nothing is better than that.
Hooray! Your gut woke up! Here’s to smooth sailing ahead. Prayers answered!.
Lots of hugs!
Yay!!! Good for you Mary. Making progress and providing chuckles for your followers!
Farting is the first step. I lied about how many surgeries I’ve had. I’ve had 5 major abdominals. After one of them, we had a hilarious nurse who would go up and down the halls and announce that ‘someone’ in room ‘whatever’. passed gas. Pretty funny. Everyone on that floor were surgery patients. Wishing you big steps forward every day!!
Oh Mary I’m so excited for you! WHAT good news. You will come thru this just fine. I’m thinkin our prayers going forward are going to be ones that will hold you back from doing too much! Keep keepin on.
Mary so happy you have been able to make some noise! Crazy how a ‘toot’ can cause excitement! So now we hope you will soon be on your way out the door!
Our kids arrived at 4:40am today. So it has been a busy fun time. It would be more fun if I hadn’t gotten a flu bug. My stomach is pretty rocky. I’m starting to feel some better as the day goes on.
So good to hear you are starting to eat!
Joy – oh, no! In the middle of the night and you are sick. How can you cook when you have a flu bug? And I just forget where your kids live – I swear it’s on the tip of my tongue!
That is great news, Mary. Hope you enjoyed your soup and Italian ice. And I think your prayer army is well and truly up and running!
I don’t comment often, but love your blog about nothing. Having recently had surgery, I laughed out loud that you farted! Keep on keeping on. Suzanne in Massachusetts
Great news! A little “toot” was what you needed! Don’t forget the stool softeners when you get home. That’ll happen soon!
I’m prepping for Thanksgiving dinner. I just found out that my SIL (who was bringing sides and dessert) probably won’t make it due to wintery roads by Thursday morning. So yet another run to the grocery for the “just in case” foods. My nephew and his daughter are coming in tonight from Florida. I’m so looking forward to their visit.
Hang in there Mary. You’ll get busted out soon! 😁
Good news about the liquid diet! Your Prayer Warriors are still here! So glad to hear you MIGHT have hopes of seeing home but please take care of yourself, not overdoing! Those Pet Babies will all be so happy to see you!
Hang in there. (Dee from Southeastern Illinois)
Mary – We are still here holding you up in our prayers. We only hope for good news from now on. I just got home from meeting with my quilting gals from church. We always enjoy getting together.
Keep on improving and turning more corners!!
Only time in one’s life everyone gets excited over a fart! It means things are going through the proper channels. I never thought I would be excited to see ice until I was denied anything for four days so I know how you feel. Keep up the good work. Keep your sense of humor it really helps. You will be home in NO TIME. Remember 7 days to recoup for every day in the hospital. Easy does it.
Angie – I’ve never heard that – 7 days for every day in the hospital???? So about 10 x 7? 70? Ugh.
I was in the hospital for 10 days in July and yes it took a week for every day I was hospitalized to recover. You’re in our prayers.
Yay! One day you turn the corner and know everything is going to be okay! Enjoy the soup and Italian ice…….bet it will taste terrific!
Keep those farts coming!!!! They are just air that need to get out of your system so, enjoy the moments !!!!! Ha ha. Wait until you get to eat ice cream.
👏👏👏👏👏, great news. Soup is good. I had chicken artichoke soup last night.
I got permission from the deputy today to have my jail girls make blankets for the animal shelter and rescue. That’s exciting. Loretta came with a fleece blanket. She drug it around for months till she figured out this is her forever home.
The Lord is hearing us.
Great news!
Mary I was so glad to hear the ng tube was out yesterday. I know what a great feeling that is – physically & mentally. Chicken broth & Italian ice never tasted so good. After one of my stints in the hospital I bought some Italian ice for home. Not the same. Enjoy! Sending more prayers & gentle hugs your way. Hope to hear that you’re home soon.
You’re our Champ, Mary, the Caitlin Clark of miserable surgeries!!!
Absolutely love this comment! It’s perfect!
Happy to hear your good news Mary, hope you are home soon. Any good news from the Drs yet?
Denise – tumor was malignant but totally contained. I’ll have scans every 3 months and it may never act up again.
Now this is relief – the tumor was contained. So hoping you can now relax and continue making all kinds of noises and begin to enjoy your regained strength. Cheers and prayers!!
AMEN!! Great news!!
Yay for progress! Even a liquid diet is better than that old NG tube. Will hope you are dismissed this weekend if not before. Today has been baking day for Thanksgiving company—pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies, pumpkin pie bars, and pumpkin waffles—haha, I hope they like pumpkin (I know they do). Now I need to get their Christmas gifts wrapped since we won’t see them for Christmas. Getting Xmas over early actually makes December much more calm and relaxing.
Hooray! Good for you! I can tell that you are feeling better, so so happy for you! It would be wonderful to be home by the weekend. I’ll be praying hard! Jan in MA
That is great news! We have always believed in p**ping prayers! A relief to know things are moving forward!
Great news! I hope the soup was great. Warm thoughts and prayers to you.
Good news! No bowel blockages is what it means! Don’t rush too much Mary, rest and recover is the rule, take care, best wishes from Sandy
