Rain! 3-6-26

It thundered, lightning cracked and it rained earlier today. What a welcome rain it was to wash off everything and it actually left some puddles.

And then the wind!!

Put the new quilt on Keeper’s chair to try it out.

Guess who’s under here!

Card Shower for Agnes

Agnes is Joy’s cousin who had a stroke the first week of August 2025 and then spent weeks in the hospital and rehab until Thanksgiving. She’s in therapy three times a week now and is coming along but it is a lot of work. She’d like to be able to just use her walker but still uses the wheelchair because her left hand and arm need improvement.

Agnes is/was a Farmwife all her life! Later she did work in the school lunch program.  She and her hubby bought a piece of property off Ottertail in Minnesota on Long Lake where he loved to fish and the whole family loved to fish. Her husband died of cancer 17 years ago.  Agnes had her stroke in August while she was at the lake with her family.

All of this would be great but I’m still waiting for Joy to send me Agnes’s address so we can send her birthday greetings on March 9. Your cards will be late but that’s ok. I’ll print the address when I get it. Sigh.

Good Night, Friends!

I’m with the other readers about Keeper’s quilt – bold, colorful, a splash of spring! Mary, I like your idea of red, white and blue colors for May through Labor Day.
I’ll be happy to send a card to Agnes. 🙂
Looking forward to March Madness – it’s coming up fast. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get the February and March DD projects done.

O I hope we get some rain to take away some of this snow.
the picture of your yard and flag looks beautiful
so does the quilt on the chair, could that be Mortie under there?

I have clothes out drying on my clothesline. It’s 70 and sunny but rains going to move in. Record warmth so took advantage of it to be outside in the mud. Ha!

Ole has thyroid problems also, but being a golden, he’ll eat just about anything including his pill. The times I have had trouble giving a pill, I’ve used cream cheese to hide it in. Works every time.
This is why I read the comments. I did not see Mortie under the quilt. Have to go back and look. I miss things just looking on my own and appreciate it when one of our on-line friends points it out!

Beautiful quilt for Keeper’s chair. Love that blast of bright colors.
It was 73 degrees here yesterday with sun. I know this is early and bad for global warming , but I love it and need to count on my calendar the days that are enjoyable weather. To remind me, yes we did have spring weather before summer’s highs hit us.
Thinking of Agnes and the struggles she’s having. Just doesn’t seem fair. Strokes are serious.

Carolyn – there is no color anywhere I look – except that bright quilt!! I’m going to make it in red, white and blue next which I’ll put on May 1 thru Labor Day

I love your chair quilt, but don’t your cats scratch on the uncovered arms? I have scratching posts all over the place, but my cats would still shred unprotected upholstery.

Holly – not really – maybe occasionally but nothing major. They’ve got those cardboard scratchers and their big cat tree to scratch on – guess they think that’s enough?

You have such good kitties!😊 Sometimes mine are good and sometimes they’re little furry gangsters!

Such a nice chair quilt. And Mortie, what a character she is. We’ve had rains, but that is our normal spring weather. Yesterday put the first coat of paint on in the main bathroom. It’s really nice. Totally opposite to what I painted in my sewing room – it’s a dark grey-blue. It was lemon yellow and the floor is ceramic tiles that are three shades of grey-blue with a pale grey background and the lemon yellow fought the tiles. So now it’s a dark-blue an it’s beautiful. Second coat today and I’m done! Then back to sewing the baby quilt I’m trying to finish asap.

Love the new Keeper chair quilt! Such pretty colors. And love the little “bump” under it. Rain coming our way ans 71 degrees today – crazy warm for our area this time of year. Have a good weekend everyone

Another Saturday is here! I was supposed to help present a program this morning at the Marshall-Lyon County Library on protecting birds. Today we will talk about protecting birds, discuss what this means and put up special tape to protect birds from hitting windows. Hopefully my drive into Marshall will have no issues with the icy conditions we have today. I am working on a couple projects using the mini Yellow Brick Road pattern for borders on a tablerunner, and then on an old block of the month project never completed.

Mortie! My cat Sophie hides under my quilt on the bed like that. Don’t you just love spring rains….I do! Have a wonderful rest of you day

  12. Carolyn in NE Illinois

Is that Mortie hiding under there? My cat, Salem, hid under quilts, blankets, etc. She had her own chair by the slider with a fleece throw over it so she could crawl under and sleep. Wish we could see the sun for a few days!

Yes, rain and everything is so refreshed. I saw my first robins this morning. It’s cooler again but normal I think for 1st week of March.

Love that quilt for Keeper’s chair!

We had over 2″ of rain yesterday! Thankfully we didn’t experience any really nasty weather here. 70 yesterday, 33 right now!
Spending the day quietly in my sewing room after a busy week. Have a Villa Rosa pattern with cowboys to finish up so I can pin it next week at church sew. Also making pillows for Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Going to tidy up a bit after that as my piles are getting way too high!!
Take care, glad you are feeling just a wee bit better.

  15. Sandy McPherson

Hi Mary, no wonder animals make their way to the farm, such beautiful quilts on chairs for their comfort! Take care everyone, best wishes from Sandy

  16. Denise

Lovely quilt Mary and congratulations to everyone completing their ufos. It’s good to hear you might be on the mend too.
Have learnt my lovely cat has thyroid issues and am to give her one tablet daily. More blood tests in a month’s time should show if this works.
Would appreciate if others have had this experience. Thanks

    1. Linda in central Iowa

My Leon has thyroid issues. The little itty-bitty pill was a major problem – no matter what we tried from crushing it into his food to a pill-popper, that medicine was NOT going to enter his body! About 9 months ago, vet suggested we try Felanorm, a liquid med – put it on his favorite food. Vet gave us a small sample first. He laps it up like with no problems I no longer dread those twice daily meds. It is expensive but, of course the furball is worth it, he is 17 years old.

    2. Sharon F

Hi Denise, I had a cat with thyroid issues, it was diagnosed when he started to lose weight rapidly. It was impossible to get a pill into this cat, by any means, devious or forceful. So the vet gave us a prescription for the medication as a cream that I could rub into the inside of his ear. He tolerated that well, and the medication got his thyroid levels up to normal. He lived comfortably many more years. I had to get the prescription cream from a compounding pharmacy, fortunately there was one nearby. Good luck with your kitty!

Love the beautiful florals in Keeper’s quilt! He may have to share with Mortie?

  18. JudyE

Lucky Keeper to get such a colorful and pretty quilt for his chair.
Rain, thunder, lighting and wind here off and on all day. Tonight the wind is wild!
I hope hail and tornadoes don’t develop as the local weather man said could be a possibility. Sunday here is suppose to be in the 60’s. Hard to believe that when the perdition for a week away is 32* and snow.
Minnesota surprises us daily with the weather this time of year!
