Rainy Day, 5-20-25

Such a nice rainy day – just light rain, then mist, then rain again – the only downsize is that Keeper keeps getting wet and wet means really skunky smelling.

I got a box in the mail today from a reader in Idaho – inside was a string of prosperity hens which I hung up immediately and this is what happened. There is so much work in this string of hens! I know I would never make it myself. Thank you, Deb!

Hahahaha!!!!!

Here’s another great picture taken today of Keeper and Greta.

Children’s sermon last Sunday

Did you watch the Fever game? A one point loss and it didn’t have to be – think of how many free throws were missed. They’re FREE!!! I’ll bet those girls will be shooting free throws this week. Plus the wing span of 6’9” Griner makes shots under the basket nearly impossible. Sigh. Next game is Thursday against Atlanta – again – this time on their home floor. I’ll be watching.

Still raining lightly.

I made a card for Jenny!

Keeper and Greta look so sweet napping together! He sure is a sweetie!
I had started some Painted Corn seeds and this morning we got 2 sectioned grow bags planted with them. Darrell is buying more dirt and we will finish them tomorrow morning before it gets too hot. Looking forward to popcorn in the fall 🥰. I’m worn out.

Hazel and Keeper look just like my cat, checking anything new. Probably thinking “they don’t quite look like our chickens, let’s smell them and find out”. Keeper and Greta remind me when our setter and a rescued barn cat always slept together on the dog’s pillow. And they loved to go out and hunt things in the backyard together. The children’s sermon is such a lovely addition to church services these days. When I was growing up we were all in our Sunday school class during the entire service. Caitlin really put on a show in the fourth quarter. I thought she was going to pull it off, getting the crowd into it and everything. It will be interesting to see how both teams make adjustments on Thursday and whether the Fever can outmaneuver Griner and Howard. I especially liked the argyle quilt, not something you see often. We’re getting the rain today in Maryland, but fortunately, avoided most of the wind you’ve been having.

Karen – we have Sunday School at 9:30 and morning service at 10:30. SS lets out about 10:10 so everybody can get to the sanctuary. We’re old fashioned – there’s no coffee bar to stop at on the way – haha!

Has anyone heard from Patti in Florida? I have been concerned, but fear the worst.
    Love the blog

Dale – no, and it’s been a bit since I tried but I’ve never gotten an answer. I, too, fear she might be gone.

Love the prosperity hens. Would be very fun to make. Hope they survive Hank’s visit.

Greta is so cute with Keeper. Her head and paw are on Keeper’s paw.

High of 97 today. It was already 80 degrees when I went for a walk this morning.

    Sending prayers everyone’s way.

Love the string of prosperity hens! And had to laugh at Hazel’s interest – so cute 🐶🐾

All the quilts you share from readers are beautiful and diverse! I am always awed by all the talent!

Hi, Would the person that made the Retro Black Cat Quilt share where you can get the pattern.
Loved how Keeper and Greta take their nap together.
    Thanks, Marie from IA

      Hi Marie!
The pattern is by Amanda Neiderhauser for Riley Blake. It’s Mod Meow, she has a fabric line and uses black cat 🐈‍⬛ panels but they are harder to find now. The Irish chain one is a free pattern online and I will try to forward to Mary. I also made the cat tree one and she has a fall pumpkin one and Christmas one with trees, presents and ornaments to buy. You use wonder under with the cats and then simple stitch around to appliqué, I also embroidered their eye pupils. I am now going to try making one with Calico cats for my Penny and Lucy 😻, will have to try appliquéing my own cats. Good luck!

Enjoyed today’s blog. Just seemed easy going. Photos were great all of them.

Doubtful we got that much rain here but I don’t have a gauge and maybe I slept through it all. It was misty rain yesterday and cold. It’s going to be in the 60s maybe for the highs. Rain possible on Saturday where I will be in Elk Horn, IA for Tivoli. The retreat center is on the main street of the town where the parade will be. Looking forward to this fun time..

Cloudy again this morning. Hope I can get out for a walk.

Loved everything about today’s blog. The quilts were awesome. Keeper and Gretta…cute cute cute! And I loved the Prosperity Hens. I Used the same YouTube tutorial. They are addictive to make. Of course, I have finished mine as I also am easily distracted. Loved Dianne’s Quilt.

  10. Hank's Mom

Keeper is such a SWEET SWEET boy!!! Hank might do that too, ‘if’ the cats would trust him that long.

The chicken swag is so cute. What a wonderful gift.
WARNING—-Hank may need to be watched with that hanging as a temptation.

Mary, I agree about the missed free throws, especially from Howard! She missed four in a row! I was surprised they came back in the fourth quarter. They should have played like that from the beginning. Yes, Griner is a hard one to guard, and she’s a hard one to shoot over. Boston did do a great job, however. I hope they can redeem themselves in Atlanta.

Really cool (50*) here this morning. Now the weeds are really growing after the rain we received yesterday.

Keeper and Hazel really had to check out the new chickens on the wall. You found a perfect place to hang them. That’s how our chickens were whenever something new was put in their shed. They had to check it out.

  12. Des

Hazel & Keeper really checked out those prosperity hens. The quilts today were beautiful, especially that argyle. Keeper is such a good boy to share his chair (and quilt) with Greta. I love close basketball games except when my team loses. Des

Hi Mary, I love the quilts today and especially the Hospitality Chicken chain. I did find on You Tube a tutorial on how to make them in case anyone else is interested in making them, it’s from Pin Cut Sew Studio, she also has a download you can purchase on how to make them!
We have had rain off and on like forever here in NH and a N’oreaster coming late Thursday into Friday, yikes!
Wonderful pic of Greta and Keeper together, precious!

  14. Carolyn Rector of Ohio

Wow, those are some prosperity hens! Beautiful work. Hope they stay intact. How wonderful that Keeper will share his space with Greta. Best picture!
The quilts are beautiful as well. I always love a star quilt. The red white and blue looked like fireworks to me. And the retro cat quilt was so cool, too. Thanks for sharing today.

The dogs sure need to keep inventory of anything new – they sure are cute. Keeper and Greta must be best friends and to think she doesn’t even mind the smell. The prosperity hens are adorable, I’m jealous.
Yesterday was rain then drizzle then rain. We need the moisture but it was too fast. On our friends farm, the corn is just a few inches high and now a lot of it is flooded so needs to be replanted. The good news is that it’s early enough that replanting should work but it’s a shame to have to do it all over again.

  16. Jean

Never heard of prosperity hens before. I like it. People can be so kind. Deb being one of them! Great quilts today! Thanks so much for always sharing.

  17. Cindy K

Hazel and Keeper were curious but they actually left the hens intact-my Hank would have had those hens off the wall in a second! I had never heard of prosperity hens before-so cute! And what a great picture of Keeper and Greta!

    1. Karla T

Love the prosperity hens~and the reactions of the dogs😅 so funny. Sweet Keeper and Greta together are so cute. The quilts today are just great! Love them all 😍..

Dianne in CO, I love your Matchplay quilt. I’ve made that one too and it’s a fun one, isn’t it? I love your colors you chose.

      1. Dianne

Karla….thank you. Match Play was fun and my local quilt shop is using it as a display to sell kits!!!

    2. Hank's Mom

      Cindy K,
Must be your dog’s name!!! LOL
My Hank is going to Mary’s later today and spending 2 nights there. Will be interesting to see if my Hank leaves the prosperity hens intact.

  18. Candy

Oh, those partners in crime, Hazel & Keeper … wondering how to get their new toys off the wall! Looks like Keeper needed a nap with Greta to forget about it. I wonder if Hazel’s still in the kitchen checking out those hens, lol! So cute!

  19. DebMac

I love the prosperity hens, just adorable. And I loved the dogs reactions. Since Jack is a bird dog, he probably would have had them off the wall in no time. Our Darcy (another English Setter) hunted all the angels and bird ornaments off our Christmas tree her first Christmas. Lesson learned.

We actually had almost 2″ of rain yesterday and today. We were so dry. Now I can plant garden!
